While driving on a city street the "advancetrac" came on and "power steering needs to be replaced" came on. i was night time i made it home. once home i turned the car off and the "replace power steering now" i had lost all power steering. this is the second time this has happened the first time my son was driving on the highway. i took it to the mechanic the first time and they said it was nothing wrong i just needed new tires.

Every time i turn my car on the steering wheel is very stiff and with light notification saying " power steering assist failed"... my car has power steering fluid in it. i have to turn my car off and wait about 20 mins to try to start it again.
Shortly after starting my vehicle, the power steering fails and the alarms sound leaving my vehicle unable to perform safely. this happens randomly and without notice. there are no known contributing factors. i've contacted my dealership and they've stated that my vehicle isn't covered under the recall and to repair the issue could cost up to $1,600
On april 2 2016 i drove to our local walmart in oceanside california. after shopping i started my 2012 ford fusion and the power assisted steering had failed and i couldnt drive the car. had it towed to north county ford where they told me that there was a recall on this problem but not on this car due to its production date of march 6th 2012.the recall was for 2012 ford fusions produced before febuaruy 28th 2012. because my vehicle was produced 6 days after the recall it was not covered thus i was responsible to pay the $1658.00 repair bill. i contacted ford motor company and they said they couldn't help me due to the production date. i believe the recall needs to be widened to cover all ford products that have this issue. while this problem did'nt happen while the car was in motion it still seems to me to be a big safety concern as it could have been .
I noticed a knock whenever i turned the wheel while driving down the road or while parked. the steering became increasingly harder as the days passed. the cars warranty had expired so i took it into goodyear to see what the problem was. they told me the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. the fusion had only 59,000 miles on it. the mechanic that worked on my car told me he previously worked for ford and that this was a common problem.
I replaced a flat tire on my vehicle no problems before hand. once i put the spare on and proceeded to drive my steering was hard to control. i managed to get the vehicle home. i immediately changed the tire and assumed that the lights will be gone. i have a message for service power steering, advance trac. i took it to ford dealership they said they didn't have a recall. i looked and research and found that there is one but my vin wasn't under it.
I had a service advanctrac light on my dash and then a power steering failure light activate on the dash as i was driving down the road at approx. 40mph. i was able to get the vehicle home safely. arrived home and went online and found a recall for this problem on the 2012 fusions. i took to ford and they want me to pay $1600 to replace what they call a rack and pinion issue.
Driving at 60 mph i could hear friction worsens and car would lose momentum easily because of the friction. then i start to hear a knocking sound somewhere in the engine perhaps or the wheel unsure and as all that worsens, i can feel the car losing control like it's gotten a flat tire. power steering got stiffer while the car kind of drifted left and then right as tho i was going to lose control of the vehicle. it was really scary so i immediately slowed down because i had no control on the steering.

Power steering failure , ford ran off road at high speed
Turned my car on tonight and an alert came across my display: power steering malfunction. my car was in park. the driver's airbag light was also on at this time.
When starting the car, i will get a power steering assist fault warning. the power steering will not work. i turn the car off and on to try to clear the error and reset the power steering. this normally works. sometimes it takes multiple tries to clear and function normally. i am worried that this error will occur while i am driving and cause an accident. i am also concerned that my vehicle is not included in the recall of ford vehicles with the same issue. this issue has occurred 6 times in the past week.

Pulling out of driveway...noticed the steering was not feeling right. turn left, turn right both way is a heavy "clicking" feel. took to ford fusion 2012 to dealer, they said the steering gearbox was bad.....they are waiting to fix it if extended warranty pays for it. this should be a ford recall, fixed for free. it is clearly a defect in the product. my fusion doesn't even have 20k miles on it yet.

I purchase this car used with 15000 km on, issue occurred at 73000km. ford fusion 2012 sel awd i was driving to work and the steering locked up, it was extremely hard to steer. i drove it directly to the dealership. benton fry ford belleville, on they inspected it and indicated that the controls arms needed to replaced. i told them to go head the approx.. cost was $1000.00. however it is still possible that i would need to replace the power steering rack which would cost $2200.00. the resolution was that they would replace the controls arms and not do the alignment, to see if the power steering would go again within a week. i drove it for a week and found nothing wrong with it. so i drop it off for the alignment to be completed. at the dealer ship the mechanic test drove it and found that the power steering rack need to replace. i was advised that my car was out of warranty as of june 13, 2015. the service advisor offer to investigate further to see if there was anything they could do on their end. they were not able to help it was so they directed to ford customer service who then escalated the issue to ford regional management, who in turn offered to over 55% of the $2200.00 as a final offer. who treated me like i should be soooo grate for this. this issue has been recalled on may 27, 2015 by ford in 2011 to 2013 fusion. since ford stated this car is not part of their recall, they deflect their responsibility of selling me a defective product. the issue occurred just like the recall, but because ford will not recognize this issue, i am stuck paying for their defective product, as they conceal the fact this is a unknown issue and they should be held responsible for this defect. i hope this helps other people because there is a lot of fusion on the road and the very fact that they steering can go at any given time is a very scary thought
Complete power steering failure on a car with 20000 miles. car was stationary when i turned it on the the warning came on. i could not drive it

2012 fusion and we have already changed the rotors... && multiple tires... always getting the tire pressure symbol && now there is an eletrical problem for the power steering... many of the fuses are missing from where the manual said they should be... may have to pay thousands to get it fixed && still its just a 2012... id expect something like this on a car thats 7-10 years old but not 3...

I was driving straight and in the middle of acceleration when my 2012 fusion sel began to make notification sounds. i read two notifications. the first one included a warning light for "service advancetrac". the second notification read "service power steering now". i continued to drive northbound to the highway. upon turning and breaking to board the freeway, i realized the steering wheel was extremely tight. it was nearly impossible for me to steer my car towards the freeway with several other cars driving at speeds between 35-50 mph behind us. i had to use both arms and body weight to turn right to get on the freeway. i was afraid to continue on the highway as i had not experienced this before and my two daughters were in the backseat. i went to a dealership to diagnose the issue. i was told the steering gear would need to be replaced. i researched this issue. there are recalls on fusions made between 2011-2013 for this exact issue. however, my vehicle is not included in the ford recalls. this is a safety issue for myself and others, especially when i am on the highway often. ford motor co. has told me three times that my car wasn't included in the recalls, it was not made in the same factory as those recalled, and it was made months after the recall. the cars included in the recall were made in february 2012 while my car was made in june 2012. this is a horrible way to handle consumers. safety of consumers does not appear relevant to ford motor company. there needs to be a recall for thousands more 2012 ford fusions... this should be a safety concern for everyone.
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. the contact was experiencing issues with the steering column in the vehicle. the dealer inspected and repaired the vehicle, but provided no written diagnosis to verify what was repaired. in addition, the traction control and eps warning indicators randomly flashed. as a result, the power steering and traction control failed randomly. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). in addition, the tpms warning indicator illuminated several times. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the dealer made no mention of nhtsa campaign number: 17v024000 (air bags). the contact was to check with the manufacturer to determine when the recall repair would be performed. the failure mileage was not available. vin tool confirms parts not available.
Saturday, oct 31st, the low tire pressure was indicated and verified the right-front tire was low when the car was started. i drove the car 3000 feet about 25 mph and service advancetrac and power steering assist fault displayed. brought the car to the dealership and they claim the tires need replacing. excluding the low pressure in one tire, there should have not been a failure and the tires are not bald.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving 20 mph, the steering wheel seized and an unknown warning light illuminated. the contact stated that the steering wheel required excessive force in order to steer the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electric power steering assist system failed. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 45,300.

I was driving my 2012 ford fusion home from work and was stopped at a stop light. when i resumed driving when the light turned green, my power steering suddenly malfunctioned while driving and i was no longer able to turn the vehicle causing me to crash into a pole. there was no warning, just total power steering failure while driving. it is extremely dangerous, and ford has recalled half a million vehicles for the same issue, but for some reason my model wasn't included. it makes driving terrifying.
