Recently reported STEERING problems on 2012 Ford Fusion

Yesterday 2/15/2020 out of no where the (service power steering now, and the advance trac light came on under normal driving conditions doing 55mph on a curvy road. the problem is common and very unsafe for drivers. not to mention extremely expensive to fix. now why is it that only some of the cars are covered in the recall when all fords with the newly designed electronic steering are affected by the failure of this system!

The service advancetrac and service power steering came on. this happened 3 previous times and this is the 4th time. every time i took it to the dealer. every time i paid for something but they never truly fixed this. they have reset the error twice and made me buy new tires before resetting the error claiming worn tires were the root cause. now happening again with new tires. this creates a dangerous circumstance when power steering suddenly goes out.

While driving my vehicle the power assist system gave out making it hard for me to turn my steering wheel a message appeared power steering assist fault i took my vehicle to ford dealership on friday february 07-2020 was told ford denied request because it was beyond time for a subsequent failure

Started my car at work friday, feb 7th and after a few seconds of sitting there in the parking lot, a message popped up on my dash saying "power steering assist fault". my steering wheel wouldn't move. shut my car off. waited a minute. started it back up. waited another minute and no message. haven't seen it since but also know there has been recalls on fusions for this. unsure if mine falls into this recall. called ford dealership here and they couldn't tell me for sure whether there was a recall on my exact vehicle. told me to wait it out to see if message comes back again. told me to bring it in if message returns or starts having problems. would really like to know if my vehicle falls under this recall or not as i really do not want to wait it out and find out the hard way.

Steering gear failure caused power steering to fail, diagnostic code p07ae-09. code above associated with recall - steering control module, steering gear replacement for certain 2011-2012 fusion models. the issue: mechanical failure associated with parts themselves, not with assembly of vehicle. my vehicle's steering gear is covered under a recall but because my vehicle was assembled at a different plant than other covered vehicles of the same model/year, ford will not cover the cost of the repair. my vehicle should be included in this coverage.

I brought this unit at an auction, but the wheel continues to look on me.... now several lights are on including check engine.

Power steering went out. received messages on my instrument cluster telling me that my power steering needs to be serviced. i was driving about 30-40 mph. after researching the issue, it appears there was a recall issued in 2015, 15s18. however my car missed the build date by 12 days. i was told my ford my car was built on march 12th and the recall only covered up to feb 28th. i'm having the exact same issue that the recall states however my car isn't cover as it was built 12 days after the build date. this recall needs to be investigated and the dates extended as i'm also having this issue.

Steering wheel is hard to steer and a message keeps coming up on the dash saying 'service track'

Vehicle loss power steering while driving. vehicle revert to manual steering mode while driving. it was so dangerous, not able to drive safely. during my investigation i found that ford already had recalled for similar fault for certain vins range but not for all vins ( recall notice : 15s18/nhtsa recall 15v-340). unfortunately my vin is included in the recall vins. this already happened three time in my car, i took my car to mechanic they found following two error code c1277 (power steering angle sensor) c1963 (stability calibration - 1&2 circuit failure) i am attaching all three invoices from all mechanic garages where you can find their findings.

November 18, 2019 approximately 6:30 p.m. central time i was driving my 2012 ford fusion which i have owned less than a month, on a dark, city street at approximately 20 miles an hour while looking for a business. suddenly, the electric assist steering went out and the car became difficult to steer. a warning light was lilluminated on the dashboard advising of electric power steering fault. as i was shuttling children from an after school event home, i did not have time to stop the car and read the owner's manual for the fault light. i proceeded home using manual steering. once at home, i read the owner's manual and shut down the car and restarted and the fault cleared. research showed that there were safety recalls issued for the steering 15 s18 and 15 n01. i took the vehicle into bob allen ford dealership in overland park, kansas where they diagnosed power steering rack failure. they advised approximately $1,500 charge to service. i inquired regarding the safety and customer service recalls and was told the vehicle was not covered due to mileage. i contacted ford customer service and was also rejected for any assistance. i asked the service manager at bob allen ford if he would split the cost with me, which he refused. it would appear to me that if this is a known defective part/safety issue, it should be covered regardless of mileage of the ford car.

My cars power steering has completely ceased up. i bought it used just over a year ago in july 2018. the light has come on for service along with the traction control light. my car has roughly 170,000 miles, maybe a little less. in looking up this issue, there is a disturbing amt of people with the exact issue who have actually had accidents because of this. luckily i have not but my car is now worthless as there is no way i'll be able to afford the repairs yet i still have to pay for the loan. my car was in motion when this happened however my boyfriend was driving on the highway, roughly at 70mph, and was able to continue driving. i dont have the muscle to do this, nor am i taking the risk. i also know my vin is not covered under the recall but ford should know by now that there is obviously something going on with other cars not covered by the recall. this problem needs to be resolved! someone is going to get killed if they havent already. it's not right to just ignore this issue. something needs to be done.

While driving to work 11/4/19 i got a message on the dash saying power steering now and advancetrac when it came time to make a turn at a light after exiting the hwy i had to struggle and pull ... i couldn't believe my car lost power just like that. 71k miles no warning before that day of steering problems.

Drove that morning to work when i cranked back up to leave power steering assist fault showed up and no power steering

Driving 60mph on the freeway and information center messaged popped up saying "service advancetrac" and "service power steering". steering became very tight and when trying to adjust in the lane, the car would react erratically and aggressively, making it extremely hard to maintain the lane. car would "jump" over about a foot when trying to correct the steering wheel to maintain the lane. slowed down and got off the freeway to which another message popped up saying "service power steering now". no power steering at all, almost impossible to drive over 25 mph without risk or crashing due to steering being extremely tight and resistive to maintaining the lane. limped the car home about 5 miles, and scheduled an appointment at a local ford dealership. talked to an older gentlemen over the phone and said that this happens all the time and that a computer refresh/update is all that is needed. scheduled appointment as such. car was serviced and power steering was working just fine for a 5 days before the "service power steering" and "service advancetrac" light came on, and the "service power steering now" code followed within 5 minutes of first code. i understand that there was a previous recall for this exact same issue on the 2010-2012 ford fusions, but this fusion was manufactured just outside the window in may of 2012. i believe that this issue needs to be covered under that recall because its the same reoccurring issues on this year of fusions.

On or about 28 october, woke to to drive to work and noticed upon starting the vehicle that the "power steering assist fault" message displayed on the instrument panel and the steering became very stiff. after attempting to drive the vehicle for a very short distance, an additional message of "service advancetrac" displayed and there was a smell of burnt electronics. this issue appeared without any warning.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving approximately 35 mph, the steering wheel pulled to the right before "power needs checking' appeared on the instrument panel. the vehicle was examined by an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the power assist was faulty and needed to be repaired. skyline ford (2510 commercial st se, salem, or) was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000(steering). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 140,000.

While in motion less than 40 mph, the vehicle lost power steering and became stiff and very hard to turn the steering wheel in either direction. decided to park the vehicle in a parking lot and have the vehicle towed to the dealership. this has been recalled previously in which the dealership replaced the part with a remanufactured part. however, in the first recall/repair the vehicle did not have any cause of concern other than to address the national recall. now, the vehicle is not drivable and the dealership does not want to replace the defected part. instead they want to charge $1,915 for a faulty remanufactured part that has gone out and could have caused severe harm and damage to persons in and around the vehicle. https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2012/ford/fusion/4%252520dr/fwd#recalls reviewing the national highway traffic safety administration, there are over 10+ complaints filed within the past 3 weeks for faulty steering. this is an obvious grave concern as there is severe risk in losing control of the vehicle due to poorly designed steering.

Last week i received a recall for the airbags on my vehicle. before i called for an appointment, i checked the recall on line and noticed the steering is also being recalled. two days later while driving, lights started going off on my dashboard. the steering and tsc lights were blinking and ringing. i had no idea what to do! i read the dashboard which said check my power steering fluid, ther is no fluid well??? i called my ford dealer and was told ' we will fix the airbag, but have no idea about the steering issues, my car has no recall for that' i told them i was looking right at the recall notice, and since i wasn't notified, they can't fix it. i told her i cannot drive the vehicle that the car won't steer, she told me to have it towed in. i have purchased a 1990 bronco i, a 1999 ford ranger and a 2007 escape from this same dealer. these vehicles have as follows: 660k,588k and 290k miles on them. my ranger still has the original muffler. is this the way i should be treated. if the car has been recalled for steering, which you can easily see from the tire wear, than why doesn't ford stand up and repair it, since there is a recall. i could fix it myself, but ford has blocked the computer usage, do i need to bypass that also. i'm a simple man who loves his fords. i brag constantly about my vehicles. i brag constantly about my dealer. i feel betrayed!!!

Power steering stopped working. warning appeared on dash stating: "service power steering pump now."

I have loss of electric power steering assist while driving and system defaults to manual steering mode. error code c1277 is the error code. the vehicle was in motion when the power steering went out. now every time we drive our car we have to do manual steering. ford is refusing to fix my vehicle since it is not on the recall list. i am requesting that my vehicle be put on the recall list as i am having the exact issues others has complained about for power steering electrical issues.

My power steering all of a sudden stopped working. parked it for the day and when i later returned to my car, the wheel was very hard to turn. the cost of repair is too expensive. not happy about this at all. i see there was a recall previously for this problem with only a certain model of the fusion and many different modes of fusions have been affected by this problem. a recall needs to be taken into affect for this problem! you have many unhappy customers!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving 30 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn and the power steering and service advancetrac warning indicators illuminated. the contact was able to drive safely to her residence. after turning off the ignition, the steering wheel became still and was unable to turn. the vehicle was unable to be driven. the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the vehicle was towed to chenoweth ford inc (located at 1564 e pike st, clarksburg, wv 26301, (800) 344-1108) where it was diagnosed that the power steering control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 79,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the vehicle was taken to titus-will ford (3606 s sprague ave, tacoma, wa 98409, (253) 475-4151) and the contact was informed that the repairs would cost $1,500. the dealer stated that the repairs were different than what was listed in the recall. the manufacturer was not notified. the contact had not experienced a failure.

Power steering failure. power steering goes out while driving. shutting off the car and restarting it seems to fix it. it's happened at least 10 times to my vehicle in the past 3 months. a recall was issued for my year/model for this issue but ford says my car isnt covered because it was made 1 month after affected vehicles.

Power steering failure /service advancetrace

My car was getting harder and harder to turn .now the power steering has went out and its almost impossible to turn.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving 60 mph, the power steering warning indicator illuminated and the power assist failed to operate. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the failure was related to a recall. the vehicle was then towed to len stoler ford (11275 reisterstown rd, owings mills, md 21117, 410-356-7000) where it was discovered that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided the same information as the dealer. the contact was referred to nhtsa. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was unknown.

Steering assist error and advancetrac error; steering failed upon starting the car and unable to safely drive.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving 40 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn, the power steering fault message was displayed, and there was an abnormal chiming noise. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the steering sector was inoperable. the vehicle was towed to tuscaloosa ford (5801 mcfarland blvd e, tuscaloosa, al 35405, (205) 304-0719) where it was diagnosed that the steering gear needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 260,000.

Power steering is not working

The steering wheel "slips" when turning at speeds below ~25mph and while parked.a bang type noise is heard each time this happens. it happens when changing the rotation of the steering wheel.

Steering wheel play and metal nocking stationary

Power steering assist fault. see a recall from 2015 on 400k+ cars but mine wasnt one of them. im also having this problem. triggers when turning car on. resets when turning car off and on again.

I was driving at highway speeds and the service advancetrac message appeared and the traction control light came on. i quickly noticed i had no power steering. i pulled over and did some quick research and come to find out that there had been other recalls for this problem with other vehicles but mine was not included in this recall but it was for the same problem and the same parts (rack and pinion).

Was driving on my way home and the all the sudden the steering went out. was hard to turn even in motion.

Driving down the highway in my 2012 ford fusion at 55 miles an hour on hwy 10 and the car suddenly jerked to the right and lost power steering had to ditch it because i was unable to steer it off the road safely. i was very upset because i had my grand daughter in the vehicle with me and it scared us both.
