Problems with 2011 Ford Fusion ENGINE

On average, the 2011 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 50 361 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2011 Ford Fusion

My 11 fusion died in gear (lemp mode they call it) in the middle of an intersection where i was almost hit and stopped traffic for a good amount of time due to it being in gear and unable to move. after being towed to a dealer and being told it was my battery; i left the dealer paying for the tow, diagnostic and a battery. i went back a week later for an oil change and was told my car was in good running condition. around the corner from the dealership is the on ramp to go home. as i was accelerating up the on ramp to highway speed it went into lemp mode again leaving me with no power entering onto the highway. thank god the semi and other vehicles behind me were paying attention and avoided rear ending me at high speed. i was again towed around the block from to the dealer where they have informed me that it is my throttle body position sensor and is not covered under my extended warranty, or the federal emissions warranty. $600.00 later; i am trading this car in because it is not safe to be driving with this possibility of losing all power at a critical time. some one needs to have them account for this error and get these cars off the road. i was close to being killed because of this and sooner or later this will cause a death. *tr

Car stalled while on highway. because of traffic, speed was approximately 40 mph. with no power/ acceleration, driver turned on hazards and maneuvered to left shoulder. car was shut down and restarted. problem recurred. car was towed to nearest dealer. throttle body was replaced and problem has not recurred.

I was driving on a major highway (i-70) east from st. louis, mo, to dayton, oh. cruise control was on at 65 mph, moderate/heavy traffic. all of a sudden, the car started to decelerate without warning, a "wrench" light and the engine light came on, and when i pressed on the accelerator, nothing happened. i pulled over onto the shoulder, and the car was shuddering. i turned it off and let it sit for a minute and then turned it back on. it seemed to be fine, so i got back on the highway. three miles later, it happened again. i did the same thing, pulled over/turned off car/restarted, and the car worked okay once i got back on the highway. four miles later, it happened again. this time, i was between two semi trucks, and was almost rear-ended by the one behind me, which would have resulted in my car basically being "crushed" between the two tractor trailers. i was able to pull over onto the shoulder safely to call for roadside assistance, and after having to tow my car to the nearest ford dealership, they advised me it was caused by failed throttle body (diagnostic code p2111). the service agent there told me that this was a known issue by ford (he told me he has seen the same problem on close to 100 other cars), but the company has done nothing about it. i came very close to being either seriously injured, or even killed, because of this. i truly hope that something can be done about this before someone is seriously injured or worse, killed (i know there are reports of crashes and injuries as a result of this problem as i have researched this issue).

I was driving at a speed of approximately 60 mph on a well traveled, busy city highway and my car transmission died. through careful maneuvering i was able to pull my car off the road and onto the shoulder without incident. i was able to power my car completely down, turn the key and the engine immediately started. i cautiously, or should i say fearfully, proceeded until i was to my destination and another incident did not occur. i spoke to a ford certified mechanic at my local dealership and had them take a look at my car. come to find out the throttle box was in need of being replaced. although my car had low miles on it i didn't think too much of it because mechanical failure does occur, however, i was taken back by the fact that the part was back ordered for the next 4 to 6 weeks from my local ford dealership. (i did end up paying extra to have an emergency rush put on it as i recently have been doing a lot of driving for work and have a small child i need to transport at times) once home i looked into "ford fusion throttle box" and found that my experience was not unlike many others. the potential danger that i, and others, have faced by driving makes and models of the cars with these throttle boxes is scary. having had an experience like i did, i was lucky, it is only a matter of time before ford's luck runs out with this inferior throttle box equipment.

Car appeared to have lost fuel power while driving approx. 40 miles per hour. car jerked and speed reduced to approx. 5 miles an hour. appeared to not be receiving any fuel even when the pedal was being pushed. pulled over, turned motor off then restarted. drove okay for about 5 more minutes than did the same thing again only this time while driving on a highway that had the shoulder of the road being worked on. the time was 5 am and it was extremely foggy. visibility was poor and the scenario could have been much worse, all things considered. repeated the process again of turning the motor off and back on, making it to my place of work this time within 5 minutes. check engine light came on and remained on when the car was started. took car to dealership after work (approx 8 miles away) without incident although the check engine light was on. technician called next day stating the throttle body needed replaced and had seen this on multiple occasions lately with ford vehicles. although i did not have an accident i can see where this issue has potential to be harmful to the driver and others. i hope something is done soon before something more serious does happens. *jb

I was not in an accident. however, my car lost power (engine) while turning on a busy road! i had to turn my car off and restart the engine several times just to get my children and to a safe location. i finally parked the car and we walked home. it could have been worse as we were almost hit turning (when it first went out). the car was towed and i am being told my ford that the throttle body needs to be replaced and my pcm need to be reprogrammed. the issue is the fact that i have been complaining about the car feeling like transmission is slipping but was told it was ?normal? for a ford. now that it is out of warranty and almost cost my children and i our lives?it?s not covered. i have only had this car 2 years and call ford company. well, while speaking to them i do some research and see that this is an issue and decided to send an email. this is very dangerous and needs to be addressed. not to mention costing us to have it get fixed. ford nor my dealership does not have any records of my complaints. the only one they see is from a month ago when the car first stopped on me. i tried to get it seen but no dealership had a transmission clerk that could se my car for a month!!!! then when i went to turn on the car to check the miles, the engine was off and i was told the error would not read. ford is not helpful and this issue needs to be resolved. *jb

Driving the 2011 ford fusion on the open road, the engine suddenly died. i had to pull over and get out of traffic. turned the engine off, then restarted. the engine started and i entered the road again. about 3 miles later the engine died again, suddenly. i had to pull over into a partial median, it was very dangerous. the check engine light was on and the light that looks like a wrench. i was able to get the vehicle to my mechanic, where the check engine code was p2111 - throttle body failure. i see from research, that this is a massive issue with ford fusions, and yet ford has not recalled the vehicles. the sudden loss of engine power is very dangerous and placed me and my passengers in immediate danger. the cost to repair is $500! ford should be replacing these for free just to know they are not going to kill a customer with a dangerously faulty product. *jb

This is my second occurrence: i was driving at a level speed of about 45 with the flow of traffic (in-city road, speed limit 45). when i heard my car seem to shift out of gear, and start stalling and slowing down and the wrench icon on the dash was lit up. i was in the left lane of a four-lane street. i got to quickest upcoming shoulder, and turned my vehicle fully off and back on. this stopped my car from stalling and shaking. but i am starting to feel very unsafe in my vehicle because there is no warning when my car will stall out and i do a lot of highway traveling. this was the second time in a 2 week period that this has happened. *tr

I was driving doing 60-65 mph in a construction zone and all of a sudden i just lost power. i pushed the gas pedal to the floor and there was nothing. the engine and radio were still running and the light came on the dash that looked like a wrench. i coasted off the road and stopped and shut the car off, waited a minute or so and restarted the car. i proceeded down the freeway and within 10 minutes the same thing happened again (still in the construction zone), this time the check engine light came on and stayed on after i restarted the car. my husband, son and i were on our way to utah from idaho. it didn't do it again for the remainder of the trip so the check engine light went off because it reset itself. my car is still under factory warranty and i need a reliable car maybe the fusion isn't as reliable as they claim it is. *jb

Throttle body went out. there was a "recall" on this part and it was replaced however was charged by ford to replace and ford is refusing to reimburse because it was past the deadline. car was fixed after known problem and should not have been charged in the first place. work was done at dick masheter ford in whitehall ohio

My throttle body on my car went out this is a 2011 ford fusion...we need a recall my wife is a cancer survior breast cancer and she has missed many appts due to the vehicle the dealership has checked under waranty and said no issues but when warranty was up and they checked it again they said they found the issues now i have to pay 600 dollars to get it fixed . car is not running due to throttle body it stalled out on the freeway several times almost causing an accident. i have paid several hundred dollars to fix the issue but it turned out to be throttle body ....dealership said it was canister purge valve and canister purge selinoid...they want 600 to fix issues i cant afford it but many vehicels the same model have issues simular to this i have reciepts and everything i bought due to throttle body..people will die if issue is not fixed...we need a recall.....please help i need help asap...*tt

I was merging from one interstate to another and had accelerated to 65 mph. the car automatically started decelerating and shaking. thank goodness i was in the right lane and was able to pull off. i turned it off and it started again. i was able to drive it a short ways. it did it 2 other times while i attempted to drive it to the ford dealership and when it did it the 3rd time i pulled off the road and had to get towed. it was extremely scary and had i not been in the right lane to pull over at each time it happened, i don't know what would've happened! *jb

Driving 70 mph down the highway and the motor simply cut off. was fortunately able to make it to the emergency lane and come to a stop safely. turned ignition off. then turned the ignition on and the car immediately cranked back up. drove to nearest gas station thinking maybe being low on gas with about 40 miles to empty was the issue. filled up with gas and proceeded home. the next day, as we were beginning to take a trip, after turning onto the on ramp and started to accelerate to get onto the highway, the engine turned off again. fortunately was able to get stopped before being hit from behind by the cars closely behind me that were accelerating to get on the highway as well or by the flowing traffic on the highway itself as i entered the busy highway, thus endangering the lives of my whole family and those persons of the vehicles that may have come in contact with my vehicle. cranked car right back up and slowly proceeded to the ford dealership. where i was told that the mfi throttle body and motor assembly had to be replaced to correct the problem. this is failure is a danger to every fusion driver and their occupants, as well as, anyone that is driving near them that could hit them in the rear or possibly hit them in the door killing the driver or occupants because the car will not accelerate though an intersection or onto a highway. *tr

Car experienced a sudden loss of power during acceleration from a stop sign. lost 99% of power and missed heavily. nearly rear-ended. pulled over, turned car off, waited a few minutes and restarted the car. ran fine. drove approximately 15 miles and 25 minutes before parking the car; problem did not recur. drove approximately 20 miles and 30 minutes to dealership; problem did not recur. dealership diagnosed the problem the same as many of the complaints on this website - the throttle body actuator is sticking. $400 repair. information online indicates that this is a new throttle design by ford, so in essence, ford is experimenting on my dime. not acceptable. *jb

My 2011 ford fusion, which i purchased only a few months ago... lost speed while driving home from work today. i'm still shaky and upset. i was a very busy 2lane up/2lane down avenue when my vehicle lost speed! i was in the inner lane and had to decide if i wanted the delivery truck to hit me from behind or risk side swiping someone in hope of getting off the road before i slowed completed. through the grace of god i was able to make two hard rights before my fusion began to stop, shake, and sputter. the first hard right was into the right lane in front of another car then onto the side street. my goodness never been so scared in life except the next two time it did while still trying to make it home. this time though, i knew to stay in the left lane. i also relied on the fact that once you get to a safe place and turn the engine off and on again it starts back up!!! i'm scared of my car! and scared for my life and others that this vehicle malfunction may affect during my commutes. i'm going on the record as saying if i die in my 2011 ford fusion during an accident single/multi vehicle please do a forensic check on the throttle! *tr

While driving the engine shuttered, lost power, and after a few seconds the car turned off. the vehicle would not restart for the next several minutes. i am being told by ford that it is an issue with the throttle body. *tt

My car shut off while at a red light when trying to give it gas. restarted after a few tries. had the battery and alternator checked and both were fine. it continued to give issues and finally would shut off while going between 1-10 mph. took it to ford to have a test ran on it, and they showed it was a faulty throttle body and would need to be repaired. we purchased the part and paid for a repair for this even though 725,000 other vehicles in the same make have been having these issues. it is quite frustrating. *tr

I was driving down the interstate on my way to work and all of a sudden my car just shut right down. i pulled over and tried to start it back up it did start up after a few minutes. and on the 31st i sat all day in a parking spot and i could not get out of the parking area it kept spitting and sputtering. this is making me very concerned that i could have been hurt i want this to be checked and covered under the warranty please and thank you.*jb

The engine shook violently. the wrench light and check engine light suddenly appeared. the speed of the car went from 45 mph to 0 in an instant. then the entire car powered off. i managed to pull over to the shoulder as this happened and not being able to accelerate at all. i turned the car on again with keys in ignition. started to drive and the same series of events happened again and my car completely powered off. i got my car towed to ford malcolm cunningham on 8/26/13. they confirmed it was the throttle body that caused the issues. i purchased extended warranty on my car which only covered the actual part and not the labor to replace the throttle body. the dealership service rep, [xxx], said that they recommended i also flush the engine because they have seen this is related to the throttle body issue. she also said the throttle body issue is a common problem with fusions and escapes, as she had another person in there for the same issue on an escape. ford needs to realize this is extremely unsafe and issue a recall asap! i cannot believe my car is practically new and i'm out of pocket $400, while ford doesn't take any responsibility. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).*tr

While driving the car it slow down and shake. the wrench light come on. going on the highway at 65 mph, engine just dies on me, forcing me to pull over, it looses all power but it goes to a very low rpm's for a while, engine shakes and after a couple of minutes just turn off, i turn it back on and it runs like nothing happened. *jb

Car just seemed to go out of gear. coasted to side of road turn ignition off and it did the same thing again coasted to side and called road side assistance. *tr

Driving up a hill when my engine lost all thrust, then the wrench and battery light turned on. vehicle engine shut down in the middle of an intersection. i shut off the car and restarted it with the same end result. took car to a mechanic and i now have to get my throttle body replaced.

On thursday 8/22/13, i was driving about 55 mph on the highway and i experienced what seemed like an engine stall. my 2011 fusion would not accelerate so i pulled off the side and my car started shaking so i turned it off. i waited a bit and started it back up and kept driving. i could still feel a lag when i stepped on the gas. i had a mechanic look at the car but he could not find any issues. on saturday 8/24/13, the same issue happened to me 3 times within a 4 hour span. i poured in some seafoam to rule out any moisture that may be in the engine. i did some research online and discovered others have had similar issues that have all been linked to a faulty throttle body. on sunday 8/25/13, the issue happened twice during the day. today i finally took my car to the ford dealership and told them what i was experiencing and told them that i think it is the throttle body. the guy told me that they would not know until the computer displayed the error code. several hours later i received a call from the dealership telling me it is a faulty throttle body and the repair would cost $650. if this is a known issue, why hasn't a recall been issued? *tr

Car quit running in drive. decelerated to a stop. restarted and parked in a lot. i had just come from the dealer for warranty work and an oil change. i was on my way home when this happened. i walked back to the dealer and reported this. they had to get a tow truck and tow it back to he dealership. they told me it was a bad throttle body. as of wednesday at 4pm, the vehicle is still there waiting for a throttle body part. my invoice stated "c/s vehicle's idle sometimes goes high by itself". the technician [xxx], stated on the invoice, 'no codes present, cannot duplicate'. the dealership is countryside ford, 24825 us19n, clearwater, fl 33763 727-797-2277. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I was driving on i-5 on my way home from running errands with the family. i was driving between 70-75 mph , in the fast lane, when the car jerked and the wrench light came on. my car lost acceleration. i was losing speed fast. my husband kept me calm and helped me get the car to the side of the freeway. when we were safely on the side of the freeway the engine was still on but running rough. i turned the car off. i called for a tow truck. i had my father come and pick my son and i up and my husband waited with the car. we had the car towed to harrold ford. the part was on back order and i was without my car for 10 days. thank goodness my car is still under warranty and a rental car was included. this is the scariest thing that has ever happened to me in my 25 years of driving. i am so thankful that my husband was with me to keep me calm and help me get our family safely off the freeway. i am so nervous driving my car now, i just pray that nothing like this happens again. *jb

While driving down a freeway at 55 mph the engine suddenly shut off with no warning. we were able to get to the side of the road without being hit. no engine warning lights were illuminated. we were able to restart the engine and continue on our journey. five minutes later pulling into a shopping center going about 10 mph the engine "thumped, gurgled, and died. the check engine light came on. we were able to restart the engine and get it five miles back to the house. the car is still under warranty so ford sent a wrecker to the house to retrieve the car. the engine light is still illuminated. *tr

Driving at highway speeds, very hard jerking. luckily the highway was clear or someone could have died! wrench and check engine light went on and car went into limp mode. went home and ran the code and it told me it was the throttle body stuck. i used google to review my options and 1000's of people have had this problem!!!! how is this not a recalled part yet!?!? i cannot wait so i ordered the throttle body, and it is backordered at the dealer! how is this not a clue that they need to fix this asap? someone is going to die, i read their have already been major accidents with this issue. *tr

I own a 2011 ford fusion. on 8/16/2013, on city streets, traveling less than 20 mph, the car engine cut off, the wrench light came on. i was able to steer, but all of my dash indicator lights were functioning as well as a/c and radio. however, there was no response from the accelerator. at less than 5 mph, she began to shudder/balk like i was just learning to drive a stick shift. on 9/2/2013, the same thing happened at two separate times, except during the first i was driving on a toll road at 55 mph. the second incident i was again traveling at 55 mph on an access ramp that leads onto the interstate. in all 3 incidents, the wrench light came on and i did have control of the steering wheel and was able to safely get my vehicle out of the main thoroughfare. i then shut off a/c, radio and ignition; waited a short time and restarted the car. each time she hesitated ever so slightly before starting and i was then able to drive on to my destination. *jb

The first incident i was driving back from the airport and the engine stayed on but the throttle would not respond. i found a way in heavy traffic moving very quickly to get to a shoulder. then i turned the car off and then back on and the car responded fine. 5 days later (today) the exact same thing happened and again on a very busy freeway (us59 near downtown houston) at lunch time. again i managed to get off the road without causing an accident and turned the car off then restarted it and it worked fine. it happened a third time while in a neighborhood traveling at 20 mph. i am astonished that there are nearly 3/4 of a million vehicles with this issue or potential issue and the impressive number of reports of the exact same scenario happening all over the country and ford has not issued a recall. *tr

I left from my home in the early afternoon. the car had not been used since the previous evening. about 2 miles from my house i got onto a state route and started to go up a slight hill. i had accelerated up to approximately 45 mph and the engine started running really rough, then stalled. the check engine light lit up. it seemed to go down to idle with no response from engine while pushing the pedal. i glided to the side of the road and crested the hill, then let the engine sputter at around idle as i was able to put it in neutral and let gravity take me to the bottom of the hill where i could glide around the corner into a safe parking lot. i shut the car down, waited a minute and it started back up as though nothing had happened. the check engine light was clear. i have not tried to check to see if it stored any codes yet. i had experienced 2 previous events in the previous 2 weeks with this car. the car has been serviced regularly. *tr

While pulling out of a parking lot onto a busy road my car began to stall and not run properly, it would not keep even 1000 rpm. the only dashboard light that lit up was an orange wrench. i looked at the temp and it was normal so i slowly crossed the intersection and immediately pulled over and shut it off. i did not try to restart it. *tr

Driving down road and lost all power and acceleration. wrench light came on and when i attempted to crank car it sounded like it was constantly trying to crank. turned car off and trued again. it started and allowed me to reach my destination, which was a mile down the road. the next day it did the same thing. took it to the ford dealership service area and it was the throttle body. of course it wasn't covered under warranty even though it is a part of the power train. the concern is that this is happening a lot to these cars and had i been on the interstate my family and i could have died due to the loss of everything. i was not able to get car off the road and it stopped extremely fast and sudden. i was out of town and had no other choice to but get it repaired where i was. *tr

I was driving with my daughters in the car in the middle lane of a 3 lane highway. i was traveling the speed limit, at or around 55 mph, when all of a sudden the car went limp. there was no acceleration and the car immediately began to coast. a wrench light and the engine light went on. with no ability to speed up, i had to navigate through two lanes of high speed traffic with a paralyzed car to get me and my children to safety. luckily, i was able to do so. the dealership informed me that this doesn't happen very often, and that unfortunately, this repair would not be covered under the power train. they ordered and replaced the throttle body. upon investigating this issue online, i was shocked to discover that this problem is so prevalent. the fact that ford is covering this up and pushing the costs on to its customers is frustrating (more than $1300 in my case), but the fact that they are willing to risk the lives of these very same customers is downright disturbing. there should be an immediate recall on all the cars affected by this throttle body issue, as well as a full reimbursement for all those who have had to suffer through this already. *tr

On 8/7/13 i was driving my car to work in my apartment complex (approx. 5 mph) my car stopped responding to the gas pedal and started "shaking" erratically. a small tool/wrench light appeared on my dash. i pulled over and turned the car off. restarted several minutes later and was able to drive with no problems until on the way home. i didn't drive it again until 8/9/13 to the mechanic. it started and drove fine, until 15 minutes after being on the interstate (which i had to get on to get to the mechanic) the car stopped responding to the gas pedal and seems to stay at the same speed for about a minute (approx. 60 mph). finally the car started to slow down and started shaking ( like it was out of gas but i still 1/2 tank). i had to pull over immediately on the very busy interstate because the car was shaking and didn't seem to respond to the gas pedal. i let the car sit for several minutes and tried to start driving on the shoulder but the car started shaking again. i decided to try one more time before calling a tow truck because it was a very dangerous situation (and i had my 11 months old son in the car) trying to merge back on the freeway with a car that didn't want to accelerate and was shaking. i tried again and was able to successfully pull back onto the interstate. once i was able to get off, i took side streets and had to stop the car again (approx. 30-40 mph). mechanics said that fords aren't suppose to have this problem they were very surprised and told us to research the internet for recalls, that is how i found safercar.gov and the numerous complaints for the same situation. this problem is obviously an issue with the car itself and not in anyway the owners/operators fault. there should be a recall issued immediately since this issue happens suddenly with no warning that there is anything wrong with the car and could result in accidents/loss of life. *tr

Three issues have arisen in the last month: 1) while slowing down to turn a corner, to stop or after a stop and starting to accelerate, my car stalls 2) at a stop light, my car jumps - will intermittently stall when going to accelerate 3) after putting gas in the tank it is very difficult to turn over. *tr

On saturday, i was driving out from a complex making a left turn into traffic when my vehicle abruptly slammed stopped at a green light. i put on my hazards and noticed a wrench signal popped on. i put the car in park and turned the vehicle off, then started it back. the vehicle turned on again. i was lucky i was not rear-ended. i drove home and decided not to drive the car until i took it to nearest dealer. monday morning, i got into vehicle headed to the dealer and again driving out of my complex, the code popped on, vehicle sputtered and stopped. i turned it off then on again. it started and i headed to the dealer close by with hazards on. my vehicle was diagnosed needing throttle body totaling $585.00. mind you my vehicle is two years old. *tr

Vehicle lost engine power and would not accelerate. vehicle was maneuvered to the road side where it was shut off for 1 minute. upon restart, vehicle drove and accelerated normally. after driving for 5 minutes, vehicle again lost engine power and would not accelerate. vehicle was again maneuvered to the road side and shut off for 1 minute. upon restart, vehicle drove and accelerated normally. condition was experienced three times the same day. ecu stored code for throttle control system. *tr

Drove a mile from our home to pick up pizza. went into the shop for about 5 minutes, came out and started the car. backed out of the space and pulled across a divided road to head home and the car sputtered and lost power so that i had to pull over to the side. the check engine light was lit. i shut down the car and it started right up and the check engine light was clear. it repeated this issue again about 1 week later on the highway for my wife though recovered. then again for me while accelerating up a state route but did not recover. *tr

Car loses power and starts to shake and stutter. wrench light comes on. turning off the car, and restarting it will put things back to normal...until it happens again. this has happened on 5 seperate occasions. the last two episodes nearly caused an accident. pulling onto a major street from a side street. fortunatly, the on-coming traffic was paying attention and avoided an accident. also, while making a left hand turn in a busy intersection. scary situation, but again avoided a near miss. car was taken to dealer on 8/10/2013. diagnosis-throttle body needs to be replaced. however, their are no parts available. interesting...they must be failing at a very high rate. i was told not to expect the part until october 26th. 3 months! so the car sits parked, waiting for a new throttle body. it is much too dangerous to drive. 2011 ford fusion (still making car payments) will be sitting for 3 months why i try to figure out how to get to work everyday. 56 miles over the warranty so the repair will cost $600. thanks ford. just happy i didn't cause an accident or get anyone hurt. but its just a matter of time...

While driving at highway speeds, my ford fusion accelerator became unresponsive. it was as if the car shifted into neutral. there was no shoulder and i was forced to come to a complete stop on the highway. after a brief internet search, it was apparent this is a very big problem for ford fusions and ford has done nothing to fix the problem. the malfunctioning part was specifically the throttle body. *tr

Sudden decrease of power followed by total shut down (similar to being totally out of gas). gas tank was almost full each time this occurred. *tr

My 2011 ford fusion has repeatedly experienced the same stalling and random shut-downs that i know understand many other drivers have experienced. usually upon accelerating, my vehicle will buck abruptly and then shudder and rapidly reduce speed until i am able to shut it off. the indicator light for the transmission turns on and occasionally the check engine light. most of the time, the vehicle will turn right back on and be able to drive as normal, but sometimes it will repeat the same bucking process very shortly after i resume driving. i took it to an auto zone and the engine check they ran returned with an error message saying "throttle body system stuck open" and that is was being held open at an angle larger than needed. thankfully, this hasn't happened while on the highway or in any place that i could not pull over safely, but it continues to happen with other drivers around, nonetheless. this is an incredibly dangerous and frustrating issue and one that i am shocked and appalled to find happens to so many other drivers. ford needs to do something to make this right for the great many of us who have been put in harms way by this faulty system. *tr

7/30/13- vehicle would not go above an idol, car sputtered and stalled while sitting at a stop light (this happened 3-4 times same day); while slowing to round a curve, pressed accelerator to pick up speed and car stalled out (2 times); there were no symbols on the dash this day. 8/5/13-started car in am, car sputtered badly, put car in drive & car sputtered part way up street, did not seem to be getting gas when accelerator was pressed, "wrench" light appeared on dash; turned car off, waited a few minutes, started car again and it ran okay & no warning lights. i purchased this vehicle "used" on 4/4/13 from blue knob auto, altoona, pa *tr

After accelerating to 30 my car lost the ability to use the foot pedal. the engine continued running but was unable to accelerate. i pulled off the side of the road, shut the car off waited a few minutes and then started the car. it worked fine until august 15th when the same thing happened 4 times. once with in 30 minutes at a speed us 40 to 55. the 3rd and 4th times occurred within minutes of each other at 55 mph in a construction zone. on all occasions the wrench light came on. on august 17th i took my car to the dealership and they informed me the throttle body assembly was bad and needed replaced. that cost me $500 out of pocket since my car is out of warranty. *tr

While driving at a highway speed of 65 mph, vehicle suddenly lost all ability to accelerate and the wrench light on the dash became illuminated. driver was in outer fast lane of the interstate and had to proceed to change several lanes with no acceleration in order to remove the vehicle from the highway as quickly as possible. when the vehicle came to a complete stop, the engine rpms started to rev up and down continuously. *tr

Two days in a row my 2011 ford fusion stalled and an error symbol of a wrench appeared on the instrument panel. i coasted to curb, turned the car off and then restarted. vehicle then resumed normal operation. in both cases i was at an intersection and fortunately the vehicles behind me were able to drive around me. *tr

Driving at 60mph vehicle lost all engine power but remained running. luckily i was in the right lane and near a exit. i coasted down the exit and turned into first street i could get to. tried to accelerate but no power. turned car off then back on. everything appeared to be normal. preceded to get back on the road i had just exited, not even a mile down the road it did it again. it did it to me 7 more times before i made it home. in the process of making my way home, stopped at the dealership to see if they could run a diagnostics but they didn't have time. appt for monday. but after reading all the complaints sounds like throttle body issues. this could had been extremely bad situation had i had been on i-35 as i live in the area of i-35 that is the deadliest stretch. nhtsa you need to force ford to recall these cars before someone dies. its preventable and i say you and ford should be held accountable when someone does die. and another issue i recently had to get fixed was the purge valve and fuel canister which after reading seems to be an issue as well. come on ford do the right thing. is even one life worth losing? *tr

Was running along at 65 mph and car jerked and lost power and the wrench icon come on the dash. pulled to side of road car was idling but rough. attempted to push throttle pedal down to increase engine speed but no response just idle. shut car off and called a tow truck. tried three ford dealers was approx. one week to get in. i was 750 miles from home.tow truck dropped car off a repair shop. manager said he had seen a car not long ago that they had disconnected the battery and all was fine. the service man went out to car and it started right up without little wrench icon being on. drove w/o any incident. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle independently decelerated to 2 mph in less then ten seconds. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. the failure and current mileages were 44,700.

Every so often while down shifting, the car jumps pretty firmly. while idling at a stoplight, the car will shake. i have some friends tell me i might have bought a lemon from a reputable nationwide car dealership so now i am looking for answers. just because there hasn't been a recall yet, doesn't mean the car is not defected. *js
