Problems with 2010 Ford Fusion UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2010 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 79 189 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

2010 ford fusion. consumer writes in regards to no further communication from dealership on replacement parts to repair recall. *smd

I have multiple items that have come about all of a sudden over the last month or two for no apparent reason. 1.) fuel fill inlet message has appeared on the dash, along with the check engine light. 2.) driver side door handle just stopped working. 3.) the air conditioner has intermittently stopped working. cool air comes and goes, and from the outside of the car it seems the fan stays on all the time.

While driving at highway speeds my vehicle lost power (i.e. the engine and electronics stayed active, however my accelerator no longer was operable). i coasted to the side of the road and my engine began to operate in a rough manner. i also noticed that my rpm indicator was bouncing erratically from low to about half way along the dial. my check engine light also illuminated. i shut the vehicle down and immediately turned it back on and operation was restored.

I was driving my kids to school. when i stepped on the gas they car wouldn't go. when it finally did it was delayed and wouldn't excelerate quick, and i couldn't drive fast hand about 25 mph

The drivers side sun visor becomes loose and falls down in my drivers view without me even pulling it down while i am driving.this also happens once in a while on the passenger side too. this happens as the car is in motion usually on the highway but has happened on city streets as well. this happens a couple of times a week.

The same recall for other ford models in 2015 regarding the driver's side door latch describes exactly the same defect for my vehicle on driver's side door. my vehicle was parked in a parking lot and when i tried to open the door handle to let myself out, the door handle corner where the tension to open door chipped. i didn't pay much attention at the time because it was still able to open; however, on 3-23-17 at about 9am the door handle tension was lost all together so i was actually locked in car while parked. i searched through internet to find if this issue has repeated for other ford owners, but only found ford taurus, mks, fiesta and 2011 forward. what of the 2010 ford fusion with the same exact issue with the door handle as described? fortunately or unfortunately, the vehicle was parked so there were no accidents. hoping ford would expand the recall to 2010 ford fusions so to prevent accidents happening. thank you!

Received a recall notice, jan. 2016 about a possible fire with fuel-line emission??? called the 1800 number, and was told to wait for "second letter," which had something to do with "finding" the part to correct problem - in the meantime, my car stalled twice, once on a local street, the last time while driving on an open highway! had an appointment with harr ford in worcester, ma for diagnostic, but i'm afraid to drive the car there!

While on the highway the vehicle would not shift shift gears. it caused me to almost get into an accident because the car would only go 20 mph and eventually would not go at all.

While getting out of the car, the interior driver's side door handle stopped working and now sticks out slightly. the first time this happened, the door opened slightly (about an inch or two) but would not open the rest of the way. the door eventually opened the rest of the way but then would not latch closed. after using the key fob to lock and unlock the doors, the driver's side door will latch closed, but will not lock. the only way to open the door while sitting in the car is to roll down the window and open it from the outside. if the power is not on, then the window will not roll down and you can not use the driver's side door to get out of the car. this also causes the driver's side door to never lock even when all the other doors lock.

The door latch on the driver side does not work. the driver needs to roll down front window and try to open with outside handle. the latches on other fusions had similar concerns and re-calls.

Approximately two years ago, i had an issue with the vehicle's throttle body. as accelerating and driving at a constant speed, the car would stall and shut down and the 'wrench' light would come on with no type of warning. i had the vehicle fixed at a ford motor company dealership. i am now experiencing the exact same issue.

While driving, the car will suddenly lose all acceleration and the maintenance wrench light will come on. this has happened while accelerating from a stop, and while going 60 mph down the highway. the only way to reset it is to restart the car. if the car is not restarted, it will shake vigorously as if it is going to stall on its own. once restarted, acceleration is restored to normal until it does the same thing again.

Driver side front door handle will not open door. have to reach out and pull outside door handle to open.

As previously reported, while entering a parking space the power steering went out and i had to struggle hard to put it into a space....luckily, the parking lot was not very full and i was able to pull into one without cars on either side. a warning message lit up on the dashboard, but not until the system was already disabled. vehicle was towed to the dealership, and repaired at a cost of almost $1,800. the car had 39,000 miles on it at the time.. upon checking the dealership said their is no recall on the power steering...for 2010. but there is recalls for the same car for 2011, 2012 as well as 2013... should a vehicle with 39,000 such a problem? nhtsa id. # 10764902

I was driving he from work when the wrench light turned on and my car completely shut down. after a few minutes it started back up however this has happened everyday since. my vehicle has less than 60000 miles and i have only had it for 3 months.

On 8/29/15 vehicle suddenly lost power as i was travelling down road approximately 40 - 45mph. i continued down road going slower and slower. car stalled several times, but i was able to restart and get to gas station. it stalled repeatedly until then. called tow truck and they thought it could be water in gas line. added dry gas solution and more gasoline and car ran ok for 3 more days and then the same thing occurred. car stalled several times. was able to turn off and restart. when hitting brakes completely, it seemed to lose power quicker. i took it to palmer ford in chelsea, mi on 9/4 and they couldn't recreate issue, but found throttle light when they checked computer panel. they did not know what was wrong with throttle though. on 9/7/15, car lost power again. we also own a 2011 ford fusion and found that there was a recall for it for a throttle issue that has exact same symptoms as this vehicle.

The horn no longer works. we have changed the fuse several times and nothing has helped. the manual has no information about it

As i was driving about 70mph on the interstate, i lost acceleration. the rpms dropped and i wasn't able to get any response from the gas pedal. luckily, traffic was light and i was able to make my way over to the shoulder and turn the car off. after doing this, the car started back up and i had acceleration again. once i returned home, i looked this up online and found many references to the recall on the electronic throttle body. i only drove it a couple more times while waiting for the part to come in and i stayed in town. the incident occurred one other time in the 6 days it took for my part to be ordered, delivered, and repaired. since ford only wanted to reset the throttle body rather than replace it, i paid for it myself and had my dad do the work. i'm very lucky that the interstate wasn't crowded and that i wasn't in the busy city when this happened.

Vehicle was just parked in the driveway and as i exited the car i noticed something odd across the top of the windshield. it was yellowish in color and appeared to have a dripping bubble look to it. contacted my ford dealership and ford motor co., to see about having this obviously defective, unsafe windshield replaced. apparently, it's not their problem. spoke with reputable windshield installers and they stated that the windshield is separating and will be a safety issue when this separation continues to worsen, especially with winter just around the corner. the windshield will splinter and crack, weaken and eventually break. according to the gentleman i spoke with he stated that he has had numerous ford fusions coming in all the time for windshield replacement due to this separation problem. i drive this car with other passengers and my grandchild. i consider this to be a huge safety issue factor. i'm now forced to install a new windshield, because ford motor company does not feel this is their problem and will only put an offer on the table if you play by their rules! where is the righteousness and safety concern with this windshield problem. folks if you own a fusion check the top of your windshield and make sure it's not separating and becoming a safety issue.

Interior door handle on the driver's side has broken twice in 2 years.

On may 30, 2015 the driver of the vehicle left the gear shift in drive; turn off the vehicle; removed the ignition key and exited the vehicle. the vehicle then rolled down a grassy hill running over a park bench and the hitting a building causing damage. the ignition key should not have been able to be remove while the vehicle was in drive and off.

Power steering quit working shortly after pulling out of the driveway. thankfully, i was not going fast and was able to get it over to the curb without an accident. the power steering gear assembley had to be replaced. atchley ford in omaha agreed to do the work for $864.17.

While driving the car will randomly stall out...the car will begin bucking, decelerate, lose power, and lights on dash will start flashing... rendering the driver pretty much helpless. this problem happened on several occasions prior to fords throttle body assembly recall. each time this happened ford was unable to determine the problem cause no diagnostic codes were present. this problem will occur and the car will be fine then will reoccur randomly. the recall was performed and the problem appeared to resolve itself for 2yrs. the car is now having the same problem...i had the vehicle towed to a ford dealer and after 2 days in the shop again no problems were found by the technicians. the car again continues to have the same problems immediately after picking up from service center. the car had to be towed 250 miles to my house where it now sits rotting away for fear of driving this vehicle.

On june 28, 2014 while backing up my 2010 ford fusion hybrid in a parking lot i had complete brake failure. brakes went to the floor. warning lights did go on as i was backing up. the vehicle was towed. the repair that was done was an "overlay of harness and installation of a cutoff pressure sensor." the part was c jumper wiring. no injuries were sustained. this had never happened before. *js

Slowed down on highway to make right turn into shopping center. lost power. had to turn off car and restart. happened again one week later. *js

I was in a line of traffic to turn left at a turn signal. the cars in front of me went when the light turned green. when the light turned yellow, the truck in front of me stopped. i went from accelerating to braking, and the brake was pushed to the floor, but the car was still accelerating. i obviously rear-ended the car in front of me. he said he could see me and let off his brake when he realized my car wasn't stopping. luckily, no one was injured. i have scheduled an appointment to have the car looked at tonight at a dealership. this has happened before without incident, and i thought i was just imagining it. *js

While filling the car with fuel, it was noticed the strong odor of gasoline present. upon parking at home, it was noticed the presents of gasoline leaking from the fuel tank. this had been repeated all summer of 2014. i had been able to determine the leak was coming from the passenger side, about 6 inches forward of the rear tire. if the tank was full, in a matter of hours there would be a pool of gasoline and the fumes around the vehicle. the fumes are present even outside on the open air. on january 20, 2014 i had the fusion into the ford dealership where the car was purchased, auto park ford, sturgis, michigan. the main reason was for the throttle body recall. i asked the service manager to drop the fuel tank and take a look to see why it was leaking. we hoped it would be a seal, which would not be a big deal. however, they found a hole in the tank, rusted through 1/4 of the way down from the top of the tank. the cost of fixing the tank is over $1700.00, this is beyond acceptable. i have a 2003 ford expedition and a 2006 chevy impala and do not have fuel leaks. i do not understand why a newer vehicle would have such a dangerous issue. a simple spark could ignite the fumes present and kill my family. i do not know what to do except hope that ford looks into this issue. i have not contacted ford. if you want any follow up conversation, please do not hesitate to call me. respectfully [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).? *jb

Intake fuel outlet has a problem car jerks transmission is horrible

I was merging onto the highway and when i hit approximately 65 mph, i felt the lose momentum and by the time i looked down, i was around 55-60 mph. i then tried to give it gas while watching my rpm's and saw that it was erratically jumping around between the 1000 and 1500 marks. so i pull over to the should and off the road and as i start coming to a stop, my car beings to shake violently. so i throw it in park and immediately turned off the car. after about 10 minutes on the phone with the closest ford dealer i know, i turn on the car and it's running like nothing ever happened. however, it did take a little long to start, like as if the battery was on the verge of dying. i managed to get my car to the ford dealership where i had them run a diagnostics test on it and sure enough, they didn't find a code. they even had me come out and watch the test be done, and everything was showing a passing mark.

I was driving 20mph & suddenly the wrench lights turns on & my car slows down & starts shaking. i turned it off. then waited a few seconds and turned it back on. i started driving again and was at a red light. once it turned green, i step in the gas i was at maybe 10mph when my car starts to slow down m starts shaking badly. i had my 17 month old with me and i'm just glad this happened before i entered the freeway

We left our home in north fort myers, fl, friday morning and traveled north on route 75. around mile marker 217, and driving in the middle lane of the 3 lane highway, the engine suddenly died. we coasted over to the side of the road. after several on-off attempts we limped off the highway via the exit and into the tire choice car care shop in bradenton, fl. their computer determined the problem to be the throttle body motor assembly, which they replaced along with the throttle body switch. if a vehicle had been behind us at the time on rt. 75, we would have been seriously injured or killed!!!

The first time the incident occurred i was riding down the interstate and just out of no where the car cuts off without warning....in the middle of traffic!!! the orange wrench light came on and then the engine light. i was able to get to the side of the road and restart the car. i was able to get a diagnostic test done at oreilys and the code p1121 (or something like that) indicated that the throttle control was stuck open. i was able to drive the car on without incident. it has cut off several times since then without warning, but i continue to drive because this is my only form of transportation. it is totally unpredictable and dangerous!!! after talking to other ford owners and doing my research online i see this is not an isolated problem. this is unsafe and the part should be recalled!!!! i have continued to drive and make sure that i am very cautious and i try not to go over 60mph, but after it happened again yesterday in a very compromising scenario... i'm going to have to buckle down and get it fixed.$$$$$$$$$$ i will never buy a ford again! *ln

I was coming home from work and i had just turned left on to [xxx] and the car start slow down i tried to accelerate but the car slowed to about 2mph and the engine just started to shake badly it wouldn't even pull the hill going to my house so pulled over in a neighbors yard and called my father he told me to just cut it off and wait a couple minutes then retry it and after i wait it started fine and the wrench light went off so drove it to my home about a mile away and it did it again when i was pulling in my drive way if this had happened when i was turning on to my road i could of been hit by another car this is a safety issue and needs to be recalled before some one gets hurt or killed. wise up ford it your cheap china parts that's causing the problems. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) *tt

I experienced a sudden and dramatic loss of power, such that it instantly felt that the vehicle was going to stall. i was only on a city street so it was easy to pull over but had i been going 70mph on the highway this could have been extremely dangerous in the wrong situation. turned the car off and back on and all was fine. a mile or so later the same problem occurred and check engine came on. my mechanic pulled the code p2111 which indicates a defective throttle body. i searched the internet and there is an enormous amount of buzz regarding this problem and several accidents have been caused. this should clearly be a recall.

I was driving on interstate 71 and the car felt as if it was loosing power. the wrench light came on and the engine light came on. i pulled over to the side of the interstate and turned the vehicle off. i waited a minute and started the vehicle. it started and i accelerated and i pulled onto the interstate. about a mile down the road the same thing happened and the vehicle lost power. i pulled over, waited and restarted the vehicle. i again pulled onto the interstate and the vehicle seemed to be okay to drive although the engine light was still on. i drove it directly to john nolan auto service. they checked the vehicle and stated that the eec. diag. p02111 stored in the computer for throttle body stuck open. they removed and replaced the throttle body assy and re-programmed the pcm.

Driving down the road, 65 mph and my car just loses power. called ford and told them what happened, took it in and they said the throttle body, it's been 3 weeks and still no part, this seems to be a common problem and the part is on back order.

While on my way out of town from columbia, mo to chicago, il on 08/09/2013 when the first throttle problem started. while my husband and i were on the road driving 60mph, the wrench light came on and while on the highway the car slowed all the way down with my doing it. i had to hurry over to the side of the highway in order to not get into an accident. the state trooper for missouri pulled behind us to find out what the problem was. we didn't know so we looked in our handbook. then we noticed that it means that there was a problem with the throttle and to service it if the problem persist. during the week of 09/09/2013-0913/2013 while my husband was driving the same problem happened again. he took the car to the ford dealership where we bought it and they stated that they have received complaints but no recall order. our mechanic estimated the cost to fix the throttle issue to be between $500-$600. today 09/18/2013 while on the highway to go to work, the car stalled and stopped on me 3 times. i find this unacceptable especially because this has been a constant complaint with other owner of the vehicle and no recall or reimbursement has been made as of yet.

Transmission slipping

While driving the car locally on 6/15/2013, i stopped at a traffic light and upon entering the intersection and making a left turn, the car almost stalled and then started to buck and surge. i turned the corner but could not drive any faster than 20 mph and the car continued to surge, then almost stall, then surge again as i drove down the road 1/4 - 1/2 mile to the entrance of my daughter's development. i pulled the car over and put it in park. my daughter came to meet me and i drove the car up the block to her house without stepping on the gas but letting it "coast", during which it again continued to surge then almost stall, then surge again. we had the car towed to the local ford dealer where it was diagnosed with a throttle body issue. they told us they could not get the part for another 3 weeks since it was on back-order nationally, but informed us that it was ok to drive the car. we did not feel safe driving the car, as it could surge into an intersection or stall suddenly, so we investigated throttle body issues on ford cars on the internet and learned that there were numerous similar issues nationwide. so we determined to leave the car at the dealer until it could be repaired and driven safely. we felt it was important to file this report since we feel this is a significant safety issue that could result in serious injury.

Was on my way to work when without any warning my car started jerking and running really rough. then it just would not go any further as i kept trying to give it the gas. luckily i arrived at work. thinking i had received some bad gas and it would pass, but it just kept getting worse. now i can't even drive it for fear of it stopping and i would be stranded. *tr

Driving down highway at 45 mph when car suddenly wouldn't respond to the throttle and almost complete loss of power...very bad vibration and bucking... wrench light on dash went on ... managed to get off road before we were hit by a vehicle behind us... pulled to safe spot... turned off car waited a couple minutes car restarted seemed fine... proceeded back on highway... within 50 feet car again went into creep mode and again with luck got off the road... called for tow... today dealer called us that the problem was with the throttle body... still ford will not admit a recall should be done... this is a serious safety problem. *tr

This is my second complaint in as many days - about the exact same problem. this incident happened two days after the first one. traveling on a city street approximately 15-20 mph and the car suddenly loses all acceleration and the wrench light appears. i was able to putter to the side of the road and shut the car off. when i restarted it, it ran fine. it goes to the dealer today for inspection, where i suspect i'll get the same response that most every one else gets - that the problem couldn't be re-produced. what will it take to get a recall from ford about the defect in their design? fatal accidents?? that's a pretty high price to pay before they're forced to correct their product. *tr

I was driving down the road and suddenly i was losing power. the car was on but stepping on the gas pedal did nothing. the check engine light and the little wrench came on. i coasted into a parking lot and put the car in park. it started to vibrate and make noise. i shut it off and tried to restart it. it seemed normal so i started to drive home. i got about 3 mile and it did it again. it has steadily done this about 2-3 times a week now. one time i was going 65-70 on the express way and had to coast off. the last time i was turning left and i had the green light i was in the middle of the intersection. my light turned red i could have been plowed into and killed. i bought this car may 2011. i have only had this car for 1 year it had 65000 miles, i have no warranty on this car and can not afford to have it fixed. this is dangerous are they waiting for deaths to do anything about it? i have instructed my family if that happens to sue ford. ford knows there is a problem with these cars and should fix it.

We bought our 2010 ford fusion used and the day we purchased the car we had a problem. the check engine light was on and when we asked the dealership we were told it was because they had just changed the oil and needed to reset the computer. we noticed that when we stopped the car would jump forward and stall. we called the dealership and were told to bring the car back and they would fix it and provide us with a loaner in the meantime. when i called back to schedule the service i was then told they would not fulfill there statement. we called, sent email and never received and response. i had pretty much given up on help until by mistake they had called us about our recent purchase and they had stated they had called the wrong person, i voiced my concern as the car had been getting worse and the stalling, especially when driving on the interstate was becoming more frequent and dangerous. we have had the car diagnosed, and some repair. we were recently informed that the problem in the throttle body which i have found out is on back order and was told the manufacturer is no longer making. i have found many complaints about the issue on the same make/model. this is a big safety hazard. unfortunately when you are a one car family you cannot just set your car aside and not go to work or other necessary places. i do not understand why after at least 2 yrs of complaints on this issue it has not been taken care of so far. someone will, if they have not already be seriously injured or killed due to this problem ford and others are definitely aware of this issue since it cannot be repaired due to no part. these cars need to be recalled immediately,

Car began to lurch and unable to accelerate. check engine and wrench light appeared. had to pull over and manually turn off car. turned off radio, and air conditioner, restarted car and was able to drive home. car has had same issue several times, occurring more and more frequently. vehicle to service on 6/19/2012, mechanic diagnosed a throttle box failure.

While driving the car to get on freeway it boggled down like it was going to turn off and check engine light turned on and wrench symbol so pulled to the side and car was shaking as if it had no gas so turned off for 3 min and turned back on and drove not even a mile down the road and it did the same thing so turned off and on again and it ran as if was fine not even a month later started doing the same thing once you drive and it starts to accelerate it boggles down and lights come on. got it checked and was told it was the throttle body which is happening in a lot of ford fusion 2010 cars. *tr

Just starting off from a traffic light the car started to stall. the car was towed to montrose ford where they determined a part in the transmission failed. the part was ordered and replaced a few days later. on the 16th of september while driving the brakes failed. the car was taken to ganley ford on the 19th of sept. they initially determined it was a transmission problem, exactly the same problem that was repaired in august. on the 21st of sept. the maintenance people drove the car with a computer connected to analyze what was happening but found nothing wrong. now they say the problem is hydraulic related but will need to keep the car for at least 30 days to solve the problem. at this time they have no idea what is really wrong. inside the car is an intermittent noise. it can only be heard when just starting out or at very slow speeds. ganley ford has no idea where this noise is coming from. *tr

As i was passing another vehicle, the vehicle lost power and a warning light illuminated telling me to pull over immediately. luckily i was able to make it to the side of the highway. the codes pulled were p0010, p0201, p0202, p0203, p0204. the dealer checked the electrical connections and reassembled. the issue happened again on 5/30/11 as i was driving on the highway. the same codes as the first incident was found with an additional code of p1a03. again the dealer checked the electrical connections and reassembled. i feel this is a safety issue because when you are driving along on the highway the cars around you do not expect you to dramatically slow down. if you manage to safely make it to the side of the road without being in an accident or causing an accident you still face another safety issue being stuck on the side of the road with traffic going by at 65 mph.

After driving about 1.5 miles from home, my wife came to a set of lights and stepped on the brake to stop. the brake pedal went nearly to the floor and several dash lights came on including the brakes & anti-swerve. the vehicle slowed to a stop as she entered the intersection. fortunately 2 things were in her favor, there was no one ahead of her and there was no cross traffic at the light. either could have resulted in an accident. she drove the vehicle back home since she considered that the brakes had failed and she may not be able to stop the vehicle. she called me. i told her to call the dealership. she left the vehicle running thinking that perhaps as it warmed up it would work and tested it several times over an hour's time in the driveway. she pulled out the car's manual to see if there was anything listed regarding the brake failure. she read in another part of the manual about resetting the car's computer by shutting off the engine. when she restarted the vehicle, the dash lights went out and brakes returned to normal. the dealer said they "never heard of this problem" and said the earliest they could see the vehicle was 5 days later. we dropped the vehicle off the night before with a description of what was experienced. the dealer said they "could not verify the concern" and ford does not provide any guidance regarding the issue. i was able to find quite of few instances by simply doing a "google" search including a video by 'consumer reports' who experienced the exact same problem. ford assured them it was a 'software' issue and claimed that all 2010 fusion hybrid owners would be notified to have the software updated. my car was a newer model 2010 and apparently not under this notification since we did not receive anything from ford. the 'ford customer care' suggested taking the vehicle to another dealer for service who said, "there is nothing we can do."

To begin with i was only having problems when shifting from reverse to forward. i took my car in for the recall and i am still having problems: my car will jerk violently and then slow down to 0. the wrench light comes on and sometimes the transmission light. it has happened going slow as in making a turn, going fast, and going slow in a straight pattern. i have documented the gas because the service tech said it might not be the transmission but something with the fuel. it happens on full, 3/4, half and a quarter of a tank, early morning, after i have driven it for a while. yesterday it happened 4 times in 4 miles each time i have to shut the engine off, which apparently resets it, because the lights will go off, but then come on when it happens again. this car is dangerous to drive, someone is going to be killed. i have advised my family that if i am rear-ended and death occurs to seek legal council. the service people say they can not do anything unless they can get the car to mimic the problem, or something shows up on the computer. meanwhile this is my only means of transportation, i also use my car everyday for business. they have not provided me with an alternate means of transportation yet want to keep my car for 4 days. please do something, there are complaints all over the internet, i am sure you would have more complaints if people knew about you. can you pull ford's service records to get a more accurate record of the magnitude of problems. do something before someone dies.
