We have classified the 94 complaints from 2006 Ford Fusion about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford fusion. the contact was driving approximately 40 mph and attempting a right turn when the transmission exhibited a hesitation and began jerking abnormally. the rpm gauge displayed an extremely low reading. the vehicle was driven to the side of the road. after waiting a few moments, the vehicle resumed at a low speed without experiencing the previous failures. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the complete brake system was replaced. the failure continued to occur. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for inspection. the failure was related to the transmission and the technician detected the that the gears were sticking. the vehicle was taken to an independent transmission shop for a second opinion where they stated the same diagnosis as mentioned by the dealer. the contact was waiting upon a response from the manufacturer regarding the transmission failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
2006 ford fusion, with 65000 miles, transmission getting stuck between second and third gear. when the transmission is stuck, the car will rev to 5-6k rpms and drop severely in speed. when moving from a stop position the care then takes about 40-60 seconds to get up to 25mph (because it is still in second or third gear). this occurred with me entering an on ramp to a freeway and driving from a stop light in a busy business district. i took the car into the dealership where the car was purchased and serviced since purchase 12/31/2005. after the first day in the shop the dealer told me the transmission is beyond repair and i need a new (rebuilt) ford transmission. they wanted $80 freight for delivery of transmission and approx. $4500 fro the transmission and installation. when i bought out my lease last year i purchased an extended warranty on my car (the original ended at 36000 miles). it has now been five days with many phone calls, a rental car (only covered five days under my warranty), and a visit from a private inspector/adjuster. the warranty company is still "review the claim" and has not yet authorized the repair. without authorization from the warranty co i can not begin repairs. it will take 2-3 days to get the transmission shipped and 2-3 days for the repair. i believe ford should be responsible and recall the transmissions. not all owners have the extended warranty like i do. the failing transmissions are a huge safety defect and could lead to expensive repairs, accidents and death. similar complaint can be found on repair pal at: http://repairpal.com/transmission-problem-242. *tr
I was driving on a highway at 65 miles per hour when all of sudden my car just started slipping out of gear. i have 70,000 miles on my car and it started with about 63,000 miles. i was just recently at a 2 way stop with the non stop being a highway of 64 miles per house in south dakota. i stopped and seen no cars coming and starting going across the intersection and my car wouldn't go into gear. i sat in the middle of the intersection trying to get it to go and finally after about 15 seconds i got it to run and luckily there was no traffic coming or i would had to get out of my car and run to the side because it wouldn't start going. i don't have the kind of money to go into a repair shop and spend 5000 dollars on a new transmission when i know that is what it is. it occurs probably once a day. *tr
I was trying to accelerate to merge on to the freeway. my 2006 ford fusion refused to respond. the revs went up to 4000 rpm and the car just stayed there going very slowly. after a few seconds, it jerked forward, so i pulled back on the side of the road and let the "tantrum" past. i've had several close calls since-- the most scary one occurring in stop-and-go traffic. when accelerating after slowing down, the fusion will rev up and creep slowly forward until one removes one's foot from the gas pedal and allow it to settle back in gear. luckily, i've avoided being rear-ended by fast approaching cars. recently, ford cleaned the throttle body and charged $232.00, i still have the same problem and am still waiting for a recall on this vehicle. incidentally, the stalling also happens after making a right or left hand turn. *tr
06 ford fusion transmission slips out of gear around 25-35 mph. this happened on the highway resulting in 4 cars almost hitting us & almost causing 2 other accidents. it has been getting progressively worse for a month now. it's @ the dealership now ,they said there is nothing wrong with it @ 1st,now they say they have duplicated the problem & i need a new transmission $4700. the car has 54k miles on it. i have read numerous other complaints online @repairpal.com. something needs to be done, this is a very hazardous problem. *tr
Transmission fails to respond mostly during shifts in the range from 2nd to 5th gear. the car fails to accelerate, transmission/engine winds and become useless until you let the car return to first gear. this doesn't allow for proper passing maneuvers. the transmission also clanks when downshifting. *tr
Purchased 2006 ford fusion sel 6 cyl., with roughly 48k on it and currently have 62k on it now, in/around october of 2009, and about 3 months ago starting having transmission problems. upon accelerating between 25-40, the transmission jumps in and out of gear, often making a loud banging noise and taking away all acceleration. in order for it to get back into gear, you have to completely let of the gas and it will eventually go back into gear. this allows for minimal accelerator at best when trying to speed up. this failure occurs randomly everytime i drive the vehicle. if not fixed, the transmission in my car will eventually go bad. i took it in to advanced automotive in ann arbor to have it fixed. they told me, after doing extensive research due to no codes showing up on the computer, that on the ford bulletin it was going to need a new valve body, transmission flush, and reprogramming. this is going to cost roughly $2200. the valve body, from ford, was $1400. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford fusion. the contact stated that a plastic piece over the button on the gear shift broke inside the shifter. the broken piece caused the vehicle not to acknowledge that the vehicle was is in park and caused the key to become stuck in the ignition. the dealer stated that the entire gear shift needed to be replaced. the contact was concerned about numerous complaints regarding the gear shift and the key for his year, make and model vehicle. the contact stated that this was a safety concern since it may be difficult to detect that the broken pieces were damaging the gear shift. the failure mileage was 40,000. updated 11/05/10. *lj
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford fusion. the contact stated that they were unable to remove the key out of the ignition. the ring around drive shift was broken and gave the appearance that the vehicle was in park when it wasn't which also made it impossible to remove the key from the ignition. when the broken ring was removed, the contact was able to remove the key from the ignition; however, the transmission continued to malfunction. the vehicle had not been inspected at the time of the complaint. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileages were 50000.
The transmission slips and jerks hard, really hard when changing gear. the car lose power while driving. then it will kick back in hard. i will not buy another ford!!! now i see why people buy foreign. *js
I am unable to remove my key from my ignition unless i remove a piece of the shifter on my transmission. *tr
The push button on the gear shift will not fully come out, thus allowing shifting without the need to depress the button. this issue has also resulting in not being able to remove the key. since the locking/unlocking remote is integrated into the key itself, i cannot lock the car without the second key. not only is leaving the key in the ignition akin to gift wrapping the car for thieves, the shifting issue is absolutely a safety concern! i searched the problem and it appears very common, so much so that a tsb has been issued. ford needs to own up to this issue. *tr
2006 ford fusion. consumer states transmission has slipped *tgw the consumer sent in a tsb that was issued regarding transmission problems on certain vehicles.. *jb
Events leading: normal driving operation. failure:transmission slips after reaching 35 mph+, occurs anytime i am on the highway going uphill or trying to pass. have seen many forums with others that are having similar issues. causes my car to slip out of gear until i let off the accelerator or causes a very hard shift causing the transmission to bang really loud. what has been done to fix: nothing currently, have only done research into the issue and found many forums with individuals that have similar issues and have had their vehicles in to the dealer only to have their car worked on and still have problems. *tr
When driving car 25 miles per hour the car stops jerks decelerates the eventually kicks back up some times it does it with normal speed . which has almost caused several accidents when car suddenly decelerates stops in the flow of traffic then having to wait till it kicks back up or just try to pull off road to keep from getting hit very scary when driving on highway of in rush hour traffic! or putting on flashers at the last minute hoping not to get hit! *kb
Highway or regular road driving transmission gives out. the transmission red lines and the car fails to respond mostly on slight to moderate inclines. you must let up off the gas and allow the rpms to drop to normal and allow for the car to change gears. dealership claims no issues but they do have a tsb on the problem but claim that customer needs to pay $2500 to fix the problem. *tr
Automatic transmission slips out of gear when going up a hill or when passing another vehicle. the car make a rough noise and you have to brake in order to get the car to change gears. when the cruise control was set at 65 mph the car approached a small hill and the gear would not change and made a awful noise. i took the car to a ford dealership for diagnostic check and it revealed that i need a transmission. the cost was quoted at 4900.00. this started approx 2 months ago and is still happening. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford fusion. the contact stated that when traveling at any speed and downshifting, the vehicle would begin to shake and vibrate violently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired for the failure. the current mileage was 41,000 and the failure mileage was 38,000.
Transmission failed without warning at 67,000 miles upon entering highway where acceleration is required. unable to get to speed consistent with highway traffic. automobile is ford fusion, 2006. *tr
Transmission slips in and out of gear while driving at any speed. these are very hard gear shifts and the entire car shakes. sometimes it won't go into any gear at all, including reverse. the car has unusually high rpm during some gear shifts...particularly when shifting gets "stuck" between 4th & 5th gears. my car was stuck in the middle of an intersection because the transmission froze and wouldn't shift gears. the car cannot accelerate at a normal speed anymore which doesn't allow for normal highway driving, and is dangerous due to the fact that the transmission is slipping gears or sticking in a gear. *tr
2006 ford fusion. consumer states that the transmission is not shifting correctly. mechanic informed the consumer that there were tsb's out for this issue. *kb the consumer stated after paying $3,408.45 for the replacement transmission, a few weeks later she started having the same problem again. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where they concluded a defective valve body was installed in the vehicle during a previous visit. *jb
The transmission slips and jerks while driving. i bought the car brand new and have been keeping up with maintenance religiously. *kb
2006 ford fusion - normal driving until i hit 59,500 miles. transmission would slip after reaching approximately 40 mph and the emissions light would turn on. it was taken to the dealer on 5/14/10, and i was told it was the transmission which was covered under the extended warranty. after transmission was repaired, the car was put on diagnostics and now the power module needed to be replaced. the car was brought in on 5/14/2010 and it is 7/28/10 and i still have not received the car. they are waiting for the part which they say was received today. and because i brought my car in first, i get the part first. there is another 06 fusion with the same issue, waiting for the same part. was the part on back order for so long because ford needed to replace so many of them? my guess is yes. i was told the part would be in july 15 and it was just received today (7/28/10). *tr
I have been having transmission problems with my car but the service light has never come on! i have also had the key stuck in the ignition! these problems are getting ridiculous and to have ford not cover them is just not acceptable! the transmission is slipping, not shifting when it is supposed to, downshifting hard. anytime i try to accelerate to pass, or speed up it bangs and jerks really hard i've almost driven off the road a few times because of how hard it bangs. it just keeps getting worse, to the point my kids ask me "mom, what was that?" this is a complete hazard to drive on the road cause you never know if or when it is going to happen. let alone having my kids in the car! i have been almost rear-ended a couple of times because the transmission slips and won't go into gear, all it does is rev the engine and if you take your foot off the gas to try and get the rpm's to go down, you really slow down and could cause an accident! is this what ford needs?! is for someone to get into a bad accident and get seriously injured or die in order to get this recalled?! this is happening to sooo many ford fusions and it is all over the internet with the exact same problems!! something needs to be done about this! there is no reason why they can recall the transmissions on the newer ford fusions but not the very first year it was out!! they know something is going on with these transmission, they just don't want to spend the money to fix them all and i find that absolutely ridiculous!! my kids should not have to ride in a car that could be the cause of an accident all because ford doesn't want to acknowledge there is a serious problem! it's not fair that i paid 20k for this car and when it has about 60k miles on it for the transmission to start to mess up and they want me to pay for it!! this is giving ford a bad name!!! i will never recommend a ford to anyone ever!!! *tr
Having transmission issues at 50,000 and above on the 2006 ford fusion... i have researched this issue and ford has tried to brush it off as i need a brand new transmission, but i made them check their service alerts... there is an alert out on all 2006 ford fusion's with a certain issue with the transmission and since there is an alert out on it. i was wondering why there isn't a recall on this vehicle? my car is very unsafe to drive, it slips in and out of gear and it is very unsafe to drive on the highway because it will get stuck in car and very unsafe to drive on regular roads at regular speeds. as it will get stuck in lower gears as well. i do plan on getting the problem fixed because i need my car, but i also feel that i should not have to pay since ford has a known issue of this problem on this model car. what will it take? for someone to be driving on the highway and their car gets stuck in gear and cause an accident that will kill them and another person. i hope this is investigated and will help the next man. *tr
I own a 2006 ford fusion, when driving on the highway while trying to pass another vehicle, the car will drop out of gear. the car will not reengage until the tachometer returns to an idle. even then the car may not engage the gear again. with oncoming traffic or other cars behind this causes an unsafe condition. *tr
Transmission sticks in gear, then abruptly changes. latest incident occurred while attempting to accelerate from stop and go traffic on the freeway, car struggled to reach 40 mph while other vehicles reached speeds of approximately 55-65 mph. *tr
Transmission in 2006 ford fusion keeps slipping when attempting to speed up or going up a steep hill. *tr
I have a 2006 ford fusion that has developed a transmission problem. it has been diagnosed as a valve body defect with a service bulletin dating back to 2001. i first contacted the dealership to investigate the problem in december 2008, but the transmission department was closed (on a saturday). my mileage at that time was 35129 (well within warranty period). i wasn't able to make it back until sept. of '09 for evaluation, and they just did a software upgrade. back again with same problem in nov. '09 when they indicated the valve body from tsb dated 08/24/01. it has nearly caused me to have several accidents because at random times, the transmission pops into neutral whether on the highway, turning a corner, or accelerating - then pops back into gear, causing the car to buck violently. cars behind me have nearly rammed into my car because of this sudden failure of my transmission. i feel this should be a recall and corrected by ford corporate. this problem has occurred on several occasions. i have documented some of the more sever incidences. the latest incidences were yesterday, 3/30/10. i called the local dealership as well as ford corporate, but they say the problem is not under warranty.
Push button retaining clip for shifter handle is broken, car will shift into any gear without pressing button. dealer wants $500 to replace a faulty plastic clip
My 2006 ford fusion sel v6 started violent jerking while driving. i am afraid to drive it because i have almost rear ended another car when accelerating and the jerking happened. my husband thinks it is the transmission but it is out of warranty and we don't have the money to repair it. it seems like there are many other owners out there (due to the mass forums and the tsb's) that are experiencing the same problem. ford is doing nothing about it even though there are plenty of documentations that it is an ongoing situation. it occurs everytime the vehicle is driven. i don't feel selling it to someone else is the ethical solution. for should back/stand behind there product. not run from the problem. people could be seriously hurt, in fact, i wouldn't be surprised if there aren't reported injuries. *tr
I drive 2006 ford fusion that has about 74k and have not had any problems with until yesterday. my gear shift was stuck and would not go into park and after i had to force it to go it to park i could not leave my keys from the ignition. now my car can not be locked and it can be knocked out of gear by just a push of a hand. i am afraid to park my call, afraid that it might roll and hurt someone. i contacted ford and they said that i would have to bring it in and that it could cost up to $400.00. i have google this issue and found that over 50 fusion owners have had the same problem. i do not have the money to get this fixed but i can't even go into a store without worrying that my car is going to roll away or someone might steal it. *tr
I have had my 2006 fusion for two years. my transmission started slipping around 60,000 miles. at first it only slipped when i tried to accelerate quickly, but over the last few months it has gotten worse. i am afraid to drive it on the highway because when it slips it jumps out of gear and i can't accelerate at all. i just pray that the person behind me can slow down in time not to hit me and my children. it takes a few miles for it to jump back into gear. i have had to pull over on the side of the road to wait for it to get back into gear. i cannot afford a new transmission! this car replaced my ford econoline which i drove for over 200,000 miles before its transmission went out. if i wanted to buy a transmission i would have bought one for the vehicle i was replacing. this is the only car i have to get my kids and myself to work and to school. i cannot afford expensive repairs on a relatively new car; and i shouldn't have to. these cars are dangerous. *tr
2006 ford fusion key will not come out of ignition; gear shift does not go into park even though it looks as though it has. *tr
Our 2006 fusion sel's transmission has been slipping out of gear since around 44k miles. while in forward motion, regardless of the current speed or rpms the transmission slips out of gear and the following may happen, sometimes all in the same occurrence: (1) a sudden transmission surge then a jerk resulting in high revving rpms with no forward power. the gas pedal only revs the engine with no forward acceleration (2) a sudden grab/slam out of and back into gear jolting anyone in the car significantly (3) gear slippage resulting in high revving rpm into the red zone, no forward acceleration, and no return to previous or any other gear (4) bucking surges of acceleration and deceleration making the car impossible to control and drive safely. while advancing from a complete stop such as a stop sign or traffic signal (1) transmission may not come out of high gear and car will move only slowly until stopped and restarted (2) transmission stays in high gear and the car moves slowly only to uncontrollably jolt forward while slamming into a lower gear. all of the above may or may not be solved by stopping and restarting the car. the above issues happen regardless of the type of roadway, speed traveling, and whether the car is traveling in a straight path or turning. we were told by a ford dealership that it was a known issue that presents itself around 40k miles and usually after the warranty had expired. estimates to repair ranged from $2,500 to $4,500. in addition to the repair costs, there is the much higher potential costs of lost lives due to the lack of control this issue puts the driver in. when a driver immediately has no control of forward momentum and suddenly has no way to direct the vehicle to a safe location at current traffic speeds, there is a sudden potential for loss of lives for the occupants of the car and potentially the vehicles following behind.
I own a 2006 ford fusion 4 door sedan. upon arriving home from a short trip, i attempted to shut my car off. i shifted into what i thought was park and shut the car off. my key would not release from the ignition. i attempted to shift the car into park again and it showed it was in park. the keys still would not release from the ignition. i finally went into my home and looked online. i found online a description of the problem and a temporary solution. it seems the decorative ring around the button on the shifter keeps the button from fully disengaging. i went back out to my car and tried to shift out of park without hitting the button and was successful at which time the car was easy to roll. if the car was parked on a slope and the shifter did not fully engage in park it is possible that it could pop into neutral and roll away. i attempted to call my local dealer and was told that the service department was closed and nobody would be able to help me. this has happened 3 or 4 other times and eventually the keys came out but on this particular incident i struggled with it for most of an hour before i finally looked on the internet for the solution. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford fusion. she stated that her keys would not dislodge from the ignition. the dealer stated that the column shift failed and needed to be replaced. the dealer estimated repairs at over $400 at the owner's expense. there were no recalls for the failure. the failure and current mileages were under 70,000.
Several problems with 2006 ford fusion se ignition on/off, key removal and gear selection. when starting car, comes out of gear. on startup, gear shift will not engage/disengage fully. on startup, cannot start motor because gear shift will not fully engage "park". key cannot be removed from ignition when turning car off. when at stoplights, transmission will slip out of gear. *tr
This vehicle lose power and slows down, it happened on the express way more than 5 times. i was almost rear ended by a semi truck. i only drive it on side streets now. it pops into gear very hard, the wrench light and the check engine light is on. it gets stuck in second gear and burns a lot of gas. it started soon after the warranty ran out. i had a lot of repairs done and the power train and engine is not working right as of yet, something is wrong with this ford fusion 06 and a lot of people are having the same problems with it. why does it take the deaths of many innocent people first before there's a recall? *tr
I own a 2006 ford fusion and the key will not come out of the ignition. i have researched the problems on ford's forums and many, many people have had this same problem and explain that removing the silver ring on the shifter knob will fix the problem. however, i don't want to do this and have my car roll down my driveway and kill someone. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle would shake and jerk while driving various speeds. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where a diagnostic was performed, which located the failure at the transmission control unit. the transmission control unit was replaced however, the failure was not corrected. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where a second diagnostic was performed, which located the failure at the transmission control module. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 92,294 and the current mileage was 104,983.
Vehicle failed in high traffic, car jerked and when i pushed the gas i had nothing, no control. i was able to get the car safely off the road as cars swerved by. the car does not always do this. took the car to the dealer where i bought it two times, they now say i need to replace the transmission. this ford fusion 2006 has only 49,000 miles on it. it is a safety hazard, but ford or the dealer so far to date will not fix it. help! this car is a danger to my family and other drivers around me. *tr the consumer wanted to know the status of his complaint. updated 01/13/10.*jb
2006 fusion sel. 1) ignition key gets stuck in ignition. approximately 9 incidents beginning may 2009 of parking the car, turning off the motor, key cannot be removed from ignition: 3-4 times the key could not be removed for over 48 hours; 4 - 5 times within 12 hours.. car can be locked if using the second remote-control key, but will unlock all doors with in 5 seconds when lock on the inside door is pushed and door is closed. have had the alarm go off 3 times when car door is opened after car left unattended for 15+ minutes, unlocked, with key stuck in ignition, but alarm has not sounded at all times for the same scenario. 2) chrome veneer on interior front door handles wrinkling and peeling. problem was beginning to show it self when car was purchased. *tr
Transmission on vehicle is not good at all... there are many consumers that are having this same issue as 50,000 miles sna above. there are many complaints on the web and in forums on the 2006 ford fusions. the car will shake while driving and also it will switch gears on its own as well as the gear will get stuck. this is unsafe and very unsafe when on the highway. has had the problem fixed and the vehicle had began having the same problems and much worse. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford fusion. on three separate occasions, while driving various speeds, the engine revved high and jerked hard into gear when the brake pedal was depressed. the dealer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vin was unknown. the current mileage was 51,000 and failure mileage was 49,000.
Automatic transmission slips out of gear during acceleration. when downshifting it slips and sometimes slams itself into gear. starting from a stop sometimes the transmission doesn't seem to know which gear to start in and slams into 1st. the most frequent problem is that of the transmission dropping out of gear upon acceleration or trying to top a grade. if you are not careful the rpms will reach 5000+ rpms. this issue began around 50k miles. ford dealership in sterling heights michigan checked the transmission in approx may of 2008 and they only offered a complete transmission replacement at a cost of 4k+, they could not determine what the problem was. *tr
Car jumping, and hesitating. it happened alot. engine light would come on. told that there was nothing wrong, and that if the gas cap or engine top wasn't on that it was cause the light to go on, and was told about the jumping of the car that the sensor needed to catch up to the engine, that is what is was suppose to do. also car switching its gear by itself then slowing down and losing power on the highway. would have to pull over put the car in park, then proceed to put it in drive then it wouldn't happen for a couple of weeks. *tr
Bought the car used with approx. 45,000 miles on it from ford dealership. within a week i was back at the ford dealership i bought it at. the car would not accelerate, stuck in gear, jerk violently. they gave me a loaner car to drive, another 06 ford fusion. they told me there was nothing wrong with the car and it was the way i drive. i told them i didn't have any problems with the loaner car or any other car i've ever driven or owned. they insisted i was wrong. over the next month i brought the car back to the dealership and encountered the same resistance. the problem got progressively worse and dangerous to drive to the point where i would be going 60+ mph on a highway and the car went into neutral. the transmission completely failed in 2010, at that time i had it replaced, costing $3,000. may 31, 2012 - approx 65,000 miles. similar problems again. car would not accelerate, very hesitant, entire car shakes violently while driving. check engine like came on. i took the car to my mechanic, he tested and determined three coils went bad. looked in the car and discovered the coils had actually melted. with research, determined the computer system had failed. coils and computer system need to be replaced. approx cost (so far) - $1500.00. *tr
My 2006 ford fusion 3.0l v-6 is experiencing severe problems with the transmission. this all started at 55,000mi. it will slip out of gear at acceleration and clunks and thuds when it is downshifting. this is an extreme safety hazard, especially if you decide to turn quickly if front of on coming traffic. the trans just may not catch. ford engineers know what the problem is. it is the transmission which ford purchased from "aisen" in germany. they have a defective control body which has extreme spool bore wear. someone better require ford to fix this issue before someone gets hurt.... i have many close calls since i owned this car. the dealer wants to charge me 5000.00 to fix their issue. why is ford so hush hush? *tr
2006 ford fusion i-4 manual transmission clutch failed on freeway exit ramp. vehicle was undrivable and obstructed rush hour traffic. there was only 18,804 miles on the vehicle. *tr
