We have classified the 131 complaints from 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid about STEERING into the following categories.
While driving on the highway schedule steering service came up on the dashboard. just after pulling over the power steering failed and i could not control the steering as it was suddenly extremely difficult to turn the steering wheel. this is an extremely dangerous situation which apparently both ford and the safety board are aware of. why on earth would the 2011 models be recalled for this identical problem, but not the 2010 models with the same part. my family could have been killed- would that have triggered a recall ?
I was driving and all of a sudden the two lights came on that said service power steering now and traction control. it became harder to steer
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion hybrid. while operating the vehicle and making a left turn, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. the contact was able to continue to drive. while making a right turn, the contact heard an abnormal noise and the failure recurred. the contact called team ford lincoln (located at 5445 drexel rd, las vegas, nv 89130, (702) 395-5100) and was informed to bring the vehicle in for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 107,440. the vin was invalid. *tr*jb
Driving along the road at <30mph when suddenly the power steering service now light came on and the power steering completely went out. thank goodness it happened on a side road and not 5 minutes later when we were getting on the freeway. this could have caused a serious accident. searched the issue online and found hundreds of complaints about the same issue. then called ford (case # cas86858), and they do not have a recall for the 2010 (but they do for the 2011 and above). please issue the recall to include the 2010 as well. this is extremely dangerous and is a huge cost to the ford owners. more complaints can be found here: http://www.carproblemzoo.com/ford/fusionhybrid/2010/lose-power-steering-problems.php
Takata recall - when i enter my vin into your system, 0 recalls are shown. this is not correct. i have a letter from ford for ***urgent airbag safety recall*** - safety recall notice 19s01/nhtsa recall 19v-001. i check your site often, and found it unfortunate and disturbing to still see 0 recalls even though my car does have a recall for the passenger airbag. i have also reported a very common power steering failure in this same car. you continue to have an open investigation since november 2017, which also suprised me to see an investigation left open for so long. this is the second investigation for the same issue on this car... if there is finally a recall for the power steering, like there is been for the same steering rack part on other model years, will it show up on your website, or will it also be hidden from your recall notices like my airbag recall notice? why isn't my airbag recall listed on your website recalls when i enter my vin?
While driving today at 55mph my power steering lights blinked on then lost my power steering. managed to barely get off the road . very scary and can't believe the number of complaints for the power steering!! could have easily went off the road and over the mountain today. have to take to the dealer monday to see what its going to cost to repair.. please do a recall as i had no idea how many complaints people have made. it is a life threat!!! 2010 ford fusion hybrid 67,000 miles.
As i was leaving the house and reversing the steering wheel became hard . unable to steer. in city limits. had to have a man park it in back of my house.
Vehicle lost power steering while driving. warning lights came up on the dashboard about lost power assist. i managed to pull out of traffic and to stop. after first restart the problem did not go away, but after waiting 15 minutes and restarting again, it did.
I was taking my husband to work. we pulled over at a gas station. i started my car and when i went to pull out of the store there was no power steering. then the service power steering light came on as well as the advance traction service light. i started looking through the owner's manual and the internet for troubleshooting tips on what might be wrong. as i searched through the internet i noticed a ton of other people complaining about the same issue with the same car! it seemed i was fortunate since i was pulled over at a store.... because other people have wrecked and even been killed because of this issue! i'm not sure why this hasn't already been recalled, but it's very upsetting that so many people have made a complaint and nothing has been done! i hope that someone has the descency to do something about this soon before it affects another life.
Driving on interstate 77 in ohio traveling the speed limit of 70 mph, the power steering fault light came on and the car was almost impossible to steer. the advanc trac light came on and low tire pressure light came on.luckily i got the car off the highway and called tow vehiche
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion hybrid. while driving at low speeds, the steering wheel seized and the service power steering and service advancetrac warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to sunnyside motor co. inc. (944 main st, holden, ma 01520, (508) 829-4333) where the battery was replaced. the failure recurred after the repair while driving 65 mph. the vehicle was then taken back to the same dealer where the contact was informed that the low tire pressure placed the power steering in safe mode. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 83,656. *dt
Power steering service warning pop out, it is hard to turn the steering left or right at high speed on highway driving and harder when im driving low speed at city and not turning when i am at full stop
While driving the 'service power steering light' came on and service 'trac control'came on. when i parked the vehicle and turned it off i was still able to steer. an hour later the power steering completely failed and i was unable to turn the steering wheel.
Power steering failure
My 2010 ford fusion hubrid recently indicated a power steering assist fault on the dash board. the vehicle was stationary, parked in the drive way. steering is difficult.
Takata recall-dropped my 2010 fusion off on wednesday after 4 months waiting for the part to be in. asked to have an oil change done while it was being worked on. i go to pick it up saturday and drop off the rental only to find my vehicle with no power steering, power steering fault, service advance trac system. i recently herniated a disc in my back and do not possess the strength to turn the wheel, rendering the vehicle unsafe to drive without power steering. my fusion never left the service bay. i get a call monday from sheehy ford service, telling me that i need a new rack and pinion to the tune of $2400, due to the electronic steering being an enclosed unserviceable system. sheehy refused to acknowledge that they caused this failure during the course of my oil change and recall replacement of the passenger side airbag. they quoted me $1049 for an after market rack and offered to pay for it if i could prove that it was something they did to cause the failure. after hours of speaking to the service manager and assistant manager they told me that they stopped paying for the rental when i did not drive my unsafe vehicle home. by wednesday waiting for a return phone call about any other options and calling ford because there was a recall for the power steering on 11s and 12s, as suggested by the service manager, i told them to go ahead an order the after market rack. thursday they call to tell me its ready. as i run home to grab the keys for the rental, leaving it in front of my house with my phone, computer, and other items still inside, ford had sent a tow truck to repossess the rental. county police being called, rental towed, cab to the dealer, pay the $1049, and end up getting charged over $300 by the rental company since ford refused to pay while the power steering issue was being argued. unsafe and absolutely appalling by sheehy and ford.
My car had "power steering assist fault" come up on the dashboard after i started it in a parking lot and the lack of power steering made the car unable to drive safely. this has happened several times, and clears after turning off and restarting the car.. however, the message will not go away now even after restarting the car. ford, was able to recreate the failure and thru driving the car & diagnostics. i was then called and notified that i needed a steering rack at the tune of $2500. during the phone call, i was told that ford has been known to assist with the expense, especially with having such low mileage and asked if i wanted them to submit a request. of course, i would, however, i was informed today, 2 jan. 19, that ford rejected my request for assistance and said would not assist with anything. i am now afraid to drive the car, for fear of this happening again without warning. i have very few miles on my car, approx 38,000 miles. there have been many complaints for this very issue. other years have been recalled however, not yet for the 2010 models. this is very much a safety issue. how can ford not recall 2010's when it is a documented issue? i don't feel like i can drive the car knowing that there is a safety issue or sell it with a clear conscious. can not afford $2500. and, it's rumored that ford will not make the fusion after this year. how many more complaints must be received by nhtsa before a recall. please do something! thank you, *tr
When my wife was driving the power steering went out and warning lights went on. those warning lights were: service power steering now and service advancetrac. my wife could not drive the car and needed to get it towed to a local shop.
Luckily i was driving up to a stop sign at 20 miles per hour when the power steering assist locked up 44th and quaker lubbock texas
Steering assist quit and i couldn't steer anymore almost wrecked
Out of no where my power steering light came on and it is very hard to turn.
Steering went out on car while driving, luckily was with a few blocks of home and able to pull over safely, going less than 20 mph. steering wheel would not turn either direction. car had to be towed to service at dealership where they reported the steering rack needed to be replaced for about $2500. at local mechanic, they said could replace steering rack for $1200 but it would have to be taken to a dealer to have the computer flashed. went with cheaper mechanic, towed to dealership to complete computer work, and computer would not recognize part. went back to original mechanic, they again replaced rack thinking it was a defective part (at no charge), back to dealership, same problem - computer still not recognizing new part. now for all the new diagnostics at dealership, cost has been about $400 so far. still do not have part that works and car still at dealership not working and not recognizing part. running out of money to keep feeding into this car.
Steering suddenly stopped working altogether without warning. alert displayed was "service power steering now". there was no way to even turn the steering wheel under manual power. this happened while the vehicle was stopped in a parking space for about 5 minutes and i noticed it upon backing out.
Driving on interstate suddenly warning service power steering soon light came on and within seconds service power steering now & i lost power steering! very dangerous ! car is at ford dealership now & before they even check car i'm told it will be a very expensive repair as if i had something to do with problem. this tells me it is a very common complaint, i called ford motor before going & was given a case number to get me off the phone,
Power steering suddenly failed, giving service warning, along with warning to service autotrack
My daughters car electric steering assist motor locked up while driving on a major road, causing the car which was turning to almost go off the road into on coming traffic. the which was being driven by her boy friend was heading into accident, however, the young man was able to force the steering back working by breaking gear on the motor assist. if my daughter had been driving, she and her children would have been seriously injured or even killed. this defect has been know on this model for some time. what is it going take to get this fixed, another death of a family
While driving lost power steering to manual. there is a recall for the 2011 but not the 2010!! this is horrible and very scary. i was on a highway 24 in colorado springs.
A $300 dollar cost at a ford dealership just to reset a module of the steering wheel is unjustified. seems like it would be a manufacture's defect. my 18 year old daughter driving this car when all of a sudden the steering wheel just won't function to make a turn is a grave concern to a parent not to mention a health hazard to any driver. she was pulling out of a parking space and when she intended to turn the wheel to straighten out, the wheel became hard to turn. she could only move it forward back into the space. i feel it merits a recall now and not wait for a fatal case...
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion hybrid. while driving 55 mph, the service power steering now and electronic control system warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. an independent mechanic diagnosed that the transmission friction element g performance and the invalid data received from abs control module codes were found. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 149,058.
The vehicle was being driven by my elderly mother for emissions, as i am currently deployed overseas. the service engine light came on and she lost all electric power-assisted steering (epas). luckily my mother was able to steer the vehicle off the road and avoid colliding with anything but being 66 if she lost control anywhere else it could of been fatal. the vehicle was diagnosed and determined to have the same fault as listed in the recall for the 2011 ford fusion model.
I exited my car, with it running, went inside a store, when i reentered my car & placed it in reverse & backed out of my parking spot a red warning appeared on my dash "service power steering now". i then placed the car in drive. the power steering then completely failed and i was forced to muscle it home from there. the dash indicators now say "power steering fault" after some research i find that there has been a recall for the exact same equipment used in this car, but not for this model year. why is there no recall for this model year? this is an extreme safety issue. luckily i was not at speed when this failure occurred as i am not sure i would have been able to control the vehicle had that happened.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion hybrid. when the vehicle was started, the power steering assist indicator illuminated and the steering wheel seized. the contact called joe machens ford lincoln at 573-445-4411 (located at 1911 w worley street, columbia, mo 65203) and was informed that there was no recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and also stated that there was no recall. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000. *tt
Many ford fusions have a recall on the steering rack. 2010 does not. mine is in shop for repair. also, the transfer case went out. costly repairs. i am not able to drive due to the steering. already fixed the transfer case and sway bar.
I parked my car on the driveway yesterday and when i went out to use it today i can not turn the steering wheel. dash shows "power steering assist fault". after investigation on the internet, i see numerous complains and lawsuits regarding this exact issue. thank god i was not driving the vehicle when the steering assembly failed. i understand ford has voluntarily recalled model years 2011 through 2013 to repair this issue, however my 2010 vin was not included. apparently replacement of the failed ps assembly is the only option and the cost is over $2,000. even after replacement, i don't feel confident the issue won't happen again base on numerous user comments that had their care repaired. i believe the nhtsa is investigating this issue and has over 850 filed complaints. what is the status of that investigation?
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion hybrid. while driving 15 mph and approaching a stop light, the contact depressed the brake pedal. in the process, the steering wheel seized, the vehicle stalled, and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to plantation ford (707 north state road 7, plantation, fl 33317, (954) 908-6613) where it was awaiting diagnostic testing and repairs. the contact also called the manufacturer and was informed that the power steering failure was common, but a recall had not been issued. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 108,000.
Power steering failure
Power steering assist fault occurred without warning while driving on city streets. i was still able to drive but required a lot of force. 94,000 miles. initially, restarting the car fixed the problem, but this only helped a few times.
Power steering failed while driving on city street making it very difficult to steer.
Twice now the car drives fine and all of a sudden power steering fails and advan trac erros and makes the car basically immobile and very dangerous. the first time the vehicle cleared itself after it was bale to be parked and sat for an hour. currently it stranded and immobile.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion hybrid. while driving 55 mph, the power steering failed. the contact was able to regain control of the power steering and the vehicle was difficult to steer. clemons ford in ottumwa, iowa was made aware of the failure, but the cause was not determined. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 85,000. the vin was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion hybrid. while driving approximately 35 mph, the "service power steering soon" message suddenly displayed before the power steering malfunctioned. the steering wheel became very difficult to turn. after turning the vehicle off and restarting it, the "service power steering now" message displayed and the driver was unable to turn the steering wheel at all. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (lebanon ford, 770 columbus ave, lebanon, ohio 45036) where it was diagnosed that the steering gear rack was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 164,000.
While driving the car, we suddenly got the message 'service power steering now' and 'service advancetrac.' luckily, no accident occurred, but it was extremely difficult to steer the vehicle out of traffic and to safety.
My daughter was driving home from store going 25 miles hour and the power steering suddenly went out. we have checked to see if this car is on recall list and it is not but it says online it has the same parts that were recalled on the 2011 fusion. this is very dangerous if it happened on freeway. this needs to be addressed.
Started car and "service power steering now" appeared on instrument panel. could not turn steering wheel. power steering failed. rack & pinion needs to be replaced.
Power steering failed with 'service power steering' and 'service advancetrack' warnings, making car dangerous and hard to steer. 2011 and some later models were recalled for similar issue.
While driving at low speed on city street (~25 mph), power steering stopped working and error lights appeared for both power steering and advancetrac. took to mechanic could not diagnose the source of the problem, although power steering worked again after they adjusted air pressure in tires and cleared out codes. i remain concerned after reading about recalls of later year fusion models for what sounds like the same issue.
I was driving car at very low speed in town. service power steering now light and advancetrac lights suddenly came on. there was complete loss of power steering. had car towed to dealer. they said this occurred because of several low tire pressure warnings (which i never saw). charged me about $150 to reset computer. this is a dangerous situation. i see many similar complaints online about the ford fusion but ford has refused to recall the 2010 for this problem. please require ford to recall these vehicles and fix the problem before people die because of this. the problem apparently recurs unles an expensive repair is done.
Electronic power assist steering failed again, for the second time, in my car, on october 15, 2017. i had just started my car and when i tried to turn to back out of the parking space, could feel that the car did not have power steering.
Steering went out while driving and now am unable to steer vehicle.
I got a slow flat while driving my 2010 ford fusion hybrid, which engaged the "low tire pressure" warning on the in-dash message center. soon after that notification appeared the "service power steering now" (in red text, so definitely not good) and "service advancetrac" (in yellow) messages followed. i pulled into a gas station to check the tire, and upon restarting the car realized i now had no power steering. after changing the tire the messages remained and power steering was still gone. i drove the hobbled car (luckily in a straight line) to the nearby huntersville ford dealership, where it sits in the overnight lot now awaiting the bad news. how is such a dangerous issue, already identified within the same product line and generation, not being dealt with equally across the lineup?
