I had an accident in a rented 2007 ford escape in which the airbag deployed. it exhausted hot gasses near my wrists, sufficient to melt the fleece i was wearing and give me second degree burns on both arms. either the airbag malfunctioned in doing so, or there is a design flaw in venting the gases near the position where the driver's hands and arms are most likely to be.
