Problems with 2006 Ford Freestyle ENGINE

On average, the 2006 Ford Freestyle starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 102 413 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2006 Ford Freestyle

The accelerator pedal is unresponsive and the vehicle will move very slowly at first, then unpredictably lunge forward at higher speeds. occasionally the pedal will immediately respond with rapid acceleration when lightly touched, causing the tires to spin out while taking off from a stop. altering the way pressure is applied to the accelerator has no effect. this has been happening for over 3 months without any check engine indicators, and only recently when the vehicle had trouble idling did a check engine light come on. the vehicle has been well maintained and lightly driven.

I just bought this 2006 ford freestyle and have almost had 4 wrecks this week! it just surges randomly in the school pick up line redlights parking lots and stop signs im scared for my familys safety.i dont know what to do i paid alot of money for this car from an indivdual

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. while driving 80 mph, the vehicle decelerated and the engine shut off in the middle of the road. the contact had to coast the vehicle over to the shoulder. the contact restarted the engine and the contact was able to drive off. the vehicle failed to start later that day and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that new throttle bodies needed to be installed. the vehicle was repaired, but the repair failed. the manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 200,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. while driving 70 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle went into limp mode. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the throttle body was replaced; however, the failure recurred. joe machens capital city ford (located at 807 southwest blvd, jefferson city, mo 65109, (855) 929-5900) was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 194,000.

On multiple occasions, while car is braked but in gear (d), car lunges forward despite brakes being applied. i notice the engine revs suddenly increase when this happens. this has happened sporadically over the last few months. on thursday nov 22 around 7.30pm, i stopped at a stop sign in woodburn, oregon as pedestrians were crossing. suddenly the car lunged forward, but thankfully did not hit a lady who was crossing and thought i was intentionally trying to scare/run her over. not sure if this is related, but in two occasions the car completely shut down while in motion and driving around 35 - 45mph range. the brakes naturally stiffened and i told power steering. luckily, i was able to maneuver to the side of the road and restart. another issue is sometimes i lose throttle control of the car. on few occassions, this happened as soon as i started the car, and sometimes when i was stopped at stop sign. all three of these symptoms started showing up around the same time, which is why i believe they may be related. the problems started approximately when the engine had 128,000 miles and currently it has 140,000miles.

The wrench on left side of dashboard comes on and when i shift into drive or from drive to park transmission jerks. have had it looked at but never find anythang. does it more when it's hot out or when engine gets warm. love my ford freestyle just hard to take trips outa town. happens while driving. can't drive over 50 mph and if i am i have to pull over shut off vehicle and wait a few minutes and start it back up. sometimes i have to repeat that a few times

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled. there were no warning indicators illuminated. also, while stopped at a light or stop sign, the vehicle surged. the contact noticed that the failure occurred when the air conditioner was operating. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 123,000. *tt

My car will try to surge forward while at a stop with my foot on the brakes. it will happen while driving, in parked position, and while no gas or brake pedal is pressed. this happened in a pick up line and i could have hit a child if i hadn't hadn't my foot in the brake and done all i could to not move forward. sometimes i'm in reverse and this happens and it's like i put my foot down hard on the gas. there seems to be a connection to the ac unit, because when that is on it is making a loud sound. i went to carmax 3 years ago (in 2015) with this issue and they replaced the throttle body. now they are saying it needs to be replaced again. there is clearly an ongoing issue with this part in the car and it is a major safety concern. sometimes after the surge, my car will 'die'. this happened in the middle of 6 lanes of traffic while stationary at a red light. when it turned green, i couldn't go because my car had just surged and died with my foot on the brake pedal.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. while driving 45 mph, the throttle control transmission warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. the contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the surge needed to be reprogrammed. the contact's husband called coughlin ford of johnstown at (740) 967-2086 (670 w coshocton st, johnstown, oh 43031) and was informed that the vehicle was included in an unknown recall that had been closed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 161,000.

Problems started after the battery and alternator were changed back in november 2017. first, the battery light and check charging system went on right after the ford dealer changed the battery and alternator. we were told that the electrical output was fine despite the warning light. since then several alternators were changed by the dealer but the warning light remained and the dealer does not know how to fix this. today while driving (streets and highway) the dashboard (instrument cluster) went off and on and all gauges went to zero and back on after a while during driving. there was a kick to the engine every time this happened. my backlights went crazy (including reverse lights) while driving forward on streets/highway. turning lights were also affected. other drivers alerted me today. this is a danger to us and others. i fear the engine could eventually get affected too. there are many posts online with identical issues and ford does not appear to be willing or able to solve this.

Vehicle surges while parking or moving at low speed, especially while in a turn.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. while driving approximately 60 mph, a wrench warning indicator and the check engine indicator illuminated. when the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, the wrench warning indicator was no longer illuminated, but the engine warning indicator remained illuminated. the contact took the vehicle to brooster ford where it was diagnosed that the throttle actuator control failed. the dealer cleaned the throttle bottle and reprogrammed the pcm; however, the failure recurred. the contact informed the dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired again. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 146,000.

Vechicle surges or rave forward with pressing gas pedal on shifting forward or reverse, loses drive power, wrench light on!

Safety complaint for ford freestyle 2006. the wrench and engine light appear on the dashboard and the engine goes to limp mode and the speed drops to 30 miles per hour from highway speed of 60 to 70 miles per hour with no warning other than the quick drop in speed and wrench light. driving on a highway with trucks and cars going 70 miles per hour or more is beyond dangerous and asking to get hit. we have had ford service on this car but they did not have recalls for this problem. vehicle in motion on highway. have had car towed, pulled over to breakdown lane and traveled side roads for fear of getting hit by another vehicle. please do something to ford corp to fix this problem before there is tragedy.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. while the vehicle was being operated, the rpms revved up and down although the speed remained the same. during the failure, the wrench indicator illuminated. in addition, after the engine was restarted, the vehicle failed to accelerate over 25 mph. the contact mentioned that the failure recurred intermittently. the cause of the failures was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 190,000. the vin was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. while driving 35 mph, the accelerator pedal failed to respond when depressed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the throttle body failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 151,420.

Long story short....my vehicle will increase throttle on it's own when sitting at a light in traffic or without traffic. sometimes when i release the brake to take off it will throttle up just before and then stall out. i am only able to restart the car if i turn of the air conditioning. today as with many other days, the throttle increased while attempting to slowly back out of a parking space. i slammed on the brakes to get the car to stop as the throttle contiued to increase and then stall out. i have noticed severely increasing incidents of this happening and am scared to drive my car. i have no other options. please help me with this issue. i don't want to die or kill someone else because the car seems to have a mind of its own and my efforts to control the car are futile at times.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle accelerated and decelerated independently as the check engine warning light illuminated. the contact also stated that when the air condition was activated, the vehicle would lunge forward. the vehicle was taken to the dealer but the failure was unable to be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 150,081.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. while the gear shifter stick was placed in reverse, the rpms rapidly increased with a loud noise. the vehicle independently lunged backwards without the accelerator pedal being depressed. the contact immediately depressed the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. as a result, the vehicle stalled and the check engine and wrench warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was able to restart. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed, but the cause of the failure was not found. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 44,000.

On my 2006 freestyle, that i purchased on 4/01/2014 from northway motor car in latham, ny,it suddenly jerked forward and shut off today. upon trying to restart the vehicle ran on an unstable idle and both my service engine and engine wrench light appeared on the dash. the freestyle would not move, upon putting it into gear it ran low idle and then shut down. once my local garage ran a diagnostic test it referenced the throttle body being bad?? so now looking up recalls i find natsa action number :pe11018. of course the extended warranty program 12n03 is only to 10 years or 150,000 miles. great !!! i now have 180,100 miles and a loan for still over $3000. i am under the 10 year mark but over the milage, despite buying this from a major car dealer who could have had this problem fixed before selling it to me when it only had 148,322miles !!!! i am stuck with looking at a vehicle that doesnt run and wont untill i shell out over $750 for parts and labor on a natsa action that should still be covered !! is there any help for me or way to get this service done per the csp 12n03 ?? please advise asap !! i am disabled and retired do to the disability and have a very limited budget.

Today (08/26/2015) while emerging into oncoming traffic my car refused to accelerate. it would never rise above 20 mph. thankfully i was down the street from my mechanic. an otherwise two minute drive took fifteen minutes of my allowing the car to just coast because it would never accelerate when i pushed on the gas. after praying and finally making to the shop, he placed the diagnostic mac of thine on it only to inform me that it is the electronic throttle body was opened. i searched for a recall or something to offset the cost but i have been unsuccessful thus far. this was a very frightening experience and thankfully one where i didn't get injured due to cars almost hitting me, running up on my bumper even with the flashers on, it's not fair that this complaint is closed. what if someone got seriously injured or even died because the car just suddenly refused to accelerate.or even began to surge out into traffic. this matter needs to be re evaluated for the safety of all the customers who own this vehicle.

Engine lost power while driving on the garden state pkwy. no engine lights came on it hesitated to accelerate after leaving a toll booth and kicked off. i was told the car had a cylinder that was not firing and i needed a new engine. upon the dealership pulling the engine they verified the engine was well maintained by me and the cause of the cylinder blow out was due to the timing chain blowing apart. my son could have been killed . their was no engine light warning no transmission light and he had to cross over 4 lanes of high speed traffic to get to the shoulder of the garden state pkwy. i had the engine replaced and 6 weeks later upon picking up the vehicle it now has a transmission problem the day i picked up the car it would not accelerate over 60mph for me to enter traffic. it still does not climb steep hills. the car revs in rpms to 5 and feels like it it now getting air or fuel. when driving on flat surfaces transmission shifts fine. help

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. while driving at low speeds in traffic, the vehicle began to independently surge forward without warning. the contact had to turn the steering wheel towards the median to avoid crashing into another vehicle. the vehicle stalled, but was able to be restarted. the failure recurred. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

I was driving my car and the wrench indicator came on, my car would not accelerate. i've taken my car to the repair shop and was infromed there is a known issued with ford freestyle 2005-2006 and the cvt transmission. i reviewed and it appears ford knows this is an issue, but refuses to recall/repair it. i will be seeking legal action if ford does not pursue a recall on this vehicle and it's known issue with the cvt transmission.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. while reversing out of the driveway, the vehicle accelerated independently and the contact had to slam on the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the throttle body needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 209,120.

Driving down the interstate in traffic the engine stalls wrench light came on, leaving me with no power to control my speed. as my car quickly reduces speed on a major interstate i attempt to get over to the shoulder out of harms way. this is happened 4 times, the latest time our check engine light came on and stays on. p2104, p2100, p2112, and p0325 codes are present. i have seen ford has recalled 1.6 million electronic throttle body in ford escape, mercury mariner, and mercury milan vehicles with the same 3.0l engine and same electronic throttle body. all ford has to do is to list the ford freestyle as one of these recall vehicles for the etb to be repaired/replaced. this is a very scary situation to be in with children in the car and you have no power to you accelerator to get out of the way of speeding vehicles all around you!! i don't know what to do, very expensive to replace the etb. *tr

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle would decrease in speed. the contact would have to shut off the vehicle and restart to return to normal operation. the diagnostic check system determined that the throttle actuator forced idle needed to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 156,000. ne

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the traction control and wrench warning lights illuminated. in addition, the engine rpms revved, the vehicle decelerated and failed to accelerate over 40 mph. the contact mentioned that the traction control warning light dimmed and the wrench warning light remained illuminated. the failure occurred intermittently. the failure mileage was 112,000.

Engine surges at idle speed , and when taking corners. it is also worse when air conditioner is on. very dangerous condition when not expected. i had it looked at by my local ford dealer, but it has continued.ford so called cleaning of throttle body did nothing to alleviate the problem. *tr

Driving up to 55, engine gets to 4000 rpms, and wont shift. codes suggest bad mechatronic. *tr

I was driving to work and the car just stopped..it would not come back on, it would not turn over with the key, so i had to tow it home it will move 12 inches forward and backward. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. the contact stated that the vehicle abruptly accelerated without the contact depressing the accelerator pedal. there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle operated normally once the brake pedal was depressed. the failure occurred on several occasions. the dealer could not duplicate the failure, but stated that the throttle body needed to be cleaned and the computer needed to be reprogrammed. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 118,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while attempting to park, the engine rpms increased as the vehicle accelerated independently without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was advised that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 121,000 and the current mileage was 141,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while driving approximately 68 mph, the cbt transmission caused the vehicle to accelerate without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the pcm transmission control had exceeded the current condition. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. the approximate mileage was 79,957. the consumer stated two days after the vehicle was purchased, the wrench light illuminated. when the wrench light illuminated, the vehicle sounded and acted like it was stuck in gear. so, the only way to alleviate the issue, was to pull over, turn the vehicle off and back on again.

My engine blew and had to be rebuilt. i then had to have the transmission rebuilt 2 months after getting it back. the inner tie rod ends went out. there was a number of .there things that went wrong at the same time. it was as though the vehicle started falling apart at 120000 miles. *tr

Was going home after visiting with a friend and on way back was driving normal speed limit on i75 north (65mph) when all of a sudden the car would not accelerate and ac started blowing warm, the wrench light came on. the car was still running but very poorly. i had to carefully get over into the right lane and drove on the side of the interstate to get off at the visible off ramp just a few yards away. i was able to get the car up to a mcdonalds at the top of the ramp. i shut it off and decided to go inside and eat. about 25~30 minutes later, i decided to try and start the car and see what would happen, the car started right up, everything worked as normal, no warning lights at all. we drove it the last 2 hours home without any concerns. we ran a code tester on the car the next day and nothing came up. that was in september 2013. almost a year later, this september 2014, i had the same thing happen again, but i do not remember the light coming on this time and it happened after only driving the car 6 miles to my local home depot. again once i got back into the car after about 45 minutes, everything seemed to be operating normal again. this is normally my wife's grandson mobile, she now says that there is opportunities with surging while stopping and taking off and the ac is blowing warm when she is at stops or not driving with engine running. i read a couple forums about why the ac may be acting up but this doesn't explain the limp mode thing and the new surging going on. we have no engine or warning lights at all. i will tell you i test drove it after her concerns and they are real, the surging thing is a concern and i don't like her driving it. at a local garage guys said it sounds like its that "ford's" problem, but don't see recall for this vehicle....is this a ford problem that is known? i can't spend a lot of money trying to find the root cause. *tr

Experienced a drop in throttle response going through a curve/intersection and reduced power...pulled to the side of the road...switched off ignition and restarted. *tr had experienced the same situation over the past three months and found a ford recall to clean the throttle body and reprogram the controller. dealership now tells me that the repair is to replace the throttle body at a cost of over $800

I own a 2006 ford freestyle which i purchased in 2006. i have had some past experiences with what appeared to be the transmission slipping when mileage was around 50,000. the wrench light would come on, but then the car would resume as normal and the wrench light would go off. i was told by the dealership service department, that unless they were in the auto when it happened or the light was on, they could not run a code or determine the cause. my freestyle now has 108,000 miles and this morning i was on the highway to work, the transmission slightly slipped and then when i accelerated, i had no power. i was able to roll to a side road for safety. i turned my auto off and then on, put it in drive and reverse and neither gears worked. my automobile would not move. i have talked to two ford dealership service departments and they tell me it will be around $6000 (give or take) to replace the transmission. they said that no one will "repair it" due to the "cvt" transmission. i had to have it towed and missed work because of this. ford should pay, not their customers. i want restitution. ford needs to recall these automobiles and replace the transmission with one that they know is not faulty. they also need to pay for a rental auto while my transmission is being replaced with a new/reliable/safe one. i am very upset and would like to know where to go from here. i have taken great care of my automobile, regular maintenance done regularly and it looks new. had i of been on the interstate, i could have been in a serious accident. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle accelerated and decelerated independently and the check engine and unknown warning lights illuminated continuously. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be cleaned and the computer needed to be updated. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

A few weeks ago i was backing out of the driveway in the morning (it was cold & frosty). when i put the vehicle into reverse it started to back out but then wouldn't accelerate. i pushed harder on the accelerator and it revved and finally went. the car felt off' while driving (shaky & not fully under control-like riding a bicycle when the chain slips but isn't completely off). the wrench light turned on but once i'd arrived at the destination & stopped & restarted the vehicle it seemed fine and the wrench light turned off. last week i was again backing out and the vehicle would not accelerate, i pushed down more on the accelerator and it skipped / lurched back (almost hitting another vehicle). this happened twice more, both scary but manageable once i was able to turn the vehicle off and on again. then this morning it happened again with the revving noise and poor and jumpy acceleration but after restarting, the 'check engine' light came on and has continued to be lit. so far i have only encountered the lurching and lack of acceleration occurring while in reverse, though it's continued once going forward until i can pull over and restart the vehicle. until i can restart the vehicle it feels shaky and on the verge of dying, especially when at idle in traffic or red lights. i did a lot of research before purchasing the freestyle. i chose it because it was one of the highest rated and 'safest' suvs with 3rd row seats - reviewed by the iihs, car-seat.org and other organizations. i would not have purchased a freestyle if these problems were well known to me at the time. we will look at the throttle body as recommended by other owners on this and other sites and i only hope that solves the problem. in the meantime i am afraid of the lack of acceleration and lurching problem happening around other vehicles and people so i am driving backroads where possible. *tr

This car is absolute junk and extremely unsafe! yes, i've had the same throttle body issue as everyone else, and after i took it to ford for the "warranty" it got worse! instead of surging at low speeds, now the entire vehicles pulses...lights, engine, instrument panel, etc. at 60mph the engine will randomly sputter an the rpm's will shoot way up - every light goes bright/dim, the engine idle goes up and down, the air conditioning pulses and eventually turns itself on and off - then suddenly the instrument cluster goes nuts with the speedometer going from my speed down to 0 and back up, wrench and all kinds of other lights flashing, charging system errors - it's insane. i took it back to ford and they said it was a loose battery cable (!) and of course after i picked it up it did the exact same stuff going back home. now it appears i need to replace all 6 coils and the computer for about $1500 - this thing is only worth $3500 at this point and i still owe $9000 - it's a nightmare. also having the transmission issues - doesn't want to go when you first put it into gear and kind of hops at low speeds - i don't even know how much that will cost. i have two small kids and depend on this vehicle to get me to work and get my family where we need to go an i'm scared every time i get in the thing...with so many of these having the exact same problems i really don't understand how ford execs can live with themselves and not replace these failing parts. someone is going to get killed, if they haven't already - i'm desperately trying to find a way to unload this thing! *tr

The problem im having is that as the car goes 20-25 mph it complete stops and the wrench light goes on. it happened to me a few times on the highway at a normal high speed it complete went off. it sure has been a nightmare. now i cant even take the family with me cause im scare to put them at risk. the ford dealer did not fix the problem im at the point that i don't know what to do or who to call . every number i call its an operator and the recording hangs up on me after a few times. i had a recall letter that was send to me but the repair dept at the ford dealer don't want to give it back. i just hope the nhtsa can help me in some way . i was told that the problem im having has to do with the throttle body . *tr

Our vehicle was cruising at interstate speeds when it attempted to accelerate due to an incline in the road. suddenly the vehicle wrench light along with the anti slip light came on and the engine rpm's increased but the vehicle did not accelerate. i took the car off cruise and applied the gas and received the same results, high rpm but no acceleration. the car would not accelerate no matter what i did. we eventually pulled off the highway and stop at a gas station where we turned the car off and fueled up. after leaving the gas station we have not experienced the issue since. we took it to our mechanic the next day who said we needed to replace the transmission for about $5000. after doing research i have found out the many ford freestyle owners have had to replace their transmissions along with replacing the electronic throttle control (which ford eventually placed a recall on). we have had the etc repaired but the transmission being shot is unacceptable. *tr

On february 11th i had the recall done that reflashed computer and cleaned throttle body. the 12th and 13 it was unseasonably warm and the vehicle ran great. on the 14th the vehicle would not move at all. the temp was below 15 degrees. i could not drive my car for a month. when the temps went up into the 20's the car ran fine. i called the dealer to report the problem and was informed that the recall could only be completed once. on march 7th i cleaned the throttle body myself and found a ring of carbon around the butterfly. after cleaning the car was running good again. this was less than 400 miles after the recall had been completed. the symptoms of the jerking have gone away with the cleaning. the continuous problem seems to be the engine and malfunction light will come on and the vehicle reduces power and speed. seems to be at lower temperatures. yesterday it was 20 out and it did this. i have inspected the air and vacuum hoses to the throttle body and cannot find any loose, or broken. i have sprayed around throttle body gaskets while vehicle is running and can find no vacuum leaks. i don't think this is completely a throttle body issue. i believe the cvt transmission is to blame. in november i had the transmission fluids and sump filter changed. i did this because of the complaints of early transmission failure. usually the failure occurs when vehicle is under load, ie going up hills etc. and appears to be temperature related. *tr

All of the sudden my rpms were surging really high while i was going slow i could only go about 20 mph with the rpms at 5! then my car would shoot forward and shut off. i had my throttle body cleaned under the recall and then the next day my car wouldn't move at all! it turns on but doesn't no go anywhere and when you put it in gear it shoots forward and shuts off again! the throttle body cleaning is obviously not the issue! *tr

I have been having problems with the throttle body of the vehicle for the past 2 years. it seems to want to lunge forward and back on its own. the idol is screwed up as well. ford issued a customer service 12n03 in december 2012. since it was serviced at this time, it still has been occurring frequently. it is a dangerous situation when you do not know if you will hit someone if the car lunges forward or back on its own. i now have it in the shop for the third time to replace the throttle body completely, which will now cost me over $800. ford needs to take responsibility and fix this problem on the car!!!!!!!! *tr

This is a follow up complaint from earlier. i had to replace the transmission a month after buying my freestyle. almost $4000! i have videos of the cars rpms surging as i am driving it. not a safe car - how many complaints before a ford recall is made? please tell me someone does not have to get hurt or die first! *tr

I just got the vehicle in november 2012 and on 12/12/2012 i was driving home, the rpms started revving on it's own at speeds between 50-60 mph. i was not increasing it's gas. i made it home and stopped at the mailbox; as i let off the brake the vehicle lurched forward without me hitting the gas. then on 12/13/2012 as i was driving to work it did the same lurching coming out of park in my driveway and also at stop lights and signs. it also did the same revving and halfway to work it decided not to go over 40 mph. *tr

Lurching or sudden acceleration. *tr

Vehicle lunges forward because throttle revving the engine. sitting in the car line to pick up children at school is worrisome. throttle body replaced two times prior to this date. ford dealer informed me that throttle body needs replaced again. this is unreasonable to have replaced so many times. i have owned many vehicles in my life, currently one with over 200,000 miles 12yrs old, have never replaced a throttle body. this is a safety hazard much like the recent toyota accelerator issue. throttle body should be a recall item or should be covered for replacement by ford for life of vehicles. *tr
