Ford freestyle 2006 limited - the vehicle has started to lunge when shifted. this is unintended acceleration, with foot off the pedal. i am getting very worried that my wife will run over someone. this is a throttle body issue that you are currently investigating. this happens almost every day and is getting gradually worse - 89,000 miles on the car. there are hundreds or thousands of reports of this online. you need to have ford fix this. i can't afford to pay for the repair myself, so i haven't had it fixed. i'm hoping it won't keep getting worse and that a recall will be announced soon. *tr

Vehicle would accelerate, without depression of gas pedal. lunge forward at stop lights while brake pedal was depressed. while driving, at approx. 50mph, wrench light came on and vehicle stalled. pulled to side of road, started the car again and it worked fine...for awhile. called dealership, and they said it could be computer system, but not sure. will be having dealership look at vehicle to determine cause. this has been going on for over a month...just a slight increase in the beginning, but now is uncontrollable.

This car started surging little by little getting progressively worse as the months went on. hotter weather seemed to make it worse, stalling in drive thru's and lurching more. a few times cutting out all together, having to wait in parking lots to come back on. then it began making a high pitched whining sound like the transmission was going to blow up if it got to "over worked" it seemed. then wow "shock of all shocks" this lemon of a car simply died while finally sputtering it's last gasps sounding like a diesel engine mack truck and had a " catastrophic engine failure" as two different mechanics of ours diagnosed. now we are faced with replacing the engine, used at a steal for about $3000.00 to $5000.00+ or taking a huge loss since we owe on it still. and gee what do we have to look forward to if we do replace the engine? a safe non-lurching ride? no. a future free from more costly repairs? no. new throttle body replacement and new transmission replacements? i can't wait!!! what a joke. i hate this car. please recall something, anything to take this death trap off my hands!!! and yes i have a small child that has to ride in this bundle of safety too. *tr

I have a 2006 ford freestyle and i am having problems with the cvt transmission making a tapping noise. i took the car to the dealer and was told the inside of the transmission was falling apart and it would cost me 5800 dollars to have it repaired has there been any other problems like this or any recalls for the ford cvt transmission help i have been having problem with the car lunching forward and stalling out and the wrench and check engine light would come on and when i took it to the dealer they said that they could not find a problem or any fault codes this has been going on since i have owned the car. *tr

My 2006 freestyle will intermittently accelerate when stopped or going at low speeds. this happens at redlights, carpool line, or anywhere i am idle. it happens on occasion while in reverse. i have tried some of the fuel injection cleaners and will be taking it to be looked at today after a scare at an intersection where it revved up and stalled. i have seen many post about it being the throttle body but i for one can't afford a problem that seems to be er related. it is a safety concern for me right now as i was almost hit at the intersection. this has been going on/off for a few months and at first it was so slight i did not notice. of note, my air compressor needs to be replaced and i have read that these problems seem to going hand in hand. *tr

2006 ford freestyle. approx: 65,000 miles. wrench light came on; since then the vehicle at times will lurch forward with just a little bit of gas or if you are not pushing the brake completely down. the rpms run really high with just a little bit of gas or just at idle. car lurches forward when shifting from park to drive. when trying to get on the freeway, car will barely get going. i am assuming this is the throttle body problem that all the ford freestyles seem to be having. also noticed that it seems to occur more often while sitting at an idle for just a few minutes. have not had repairs yet, as this part is very costly and i am just learning now that this is a common problem with ford freestyle. *tr

We have a 2006 ford freestyle. it has been lunging forward while in drive and reverse even when your foot is on the brake. it happens randomly but seems to be worse when you turn the steering wheel while you are stopped with the car in reverse or drive. at first we had the rack replaced. this solved some of the noise but it still lunges. after searching the internet it seems that several people have tied it to the throttle body. this has been a real problem as we have been teaching our daughter how to drive. it can be quite dangerous while at stop lights and trying to park. also, recently the wrench light has come on after it begins to lunge. when the wrench light is on it has little power to accelerate. after the car is parked for a while the light goes on and the car functions normally again. please pursue a recall on this part and let me know what you find in your investigation. *tr

We own a 2006 ford freestyle. were driving the car 700 miles from home when the wrench light started going on/off. we were entering a freeway on-ramp when the throttle disengaged and we were forced to coast to the side of the road and call for assistance - thankfully we were able to do it safely. we had it towed to a ford dealership in san leandro, ca, and had to rent a car to get home. after about 1.5 weeks we were told there was significant metal damage in the transmission and it would cost us $6200 to replace it. the vehicle only has 47,100 miles on it. from what we've read, this is a major problem with the freestyle and needs to be seriously addressed by ford. *tr

the car began to jerk and lurch, and engine speed abruptly slowed after about (3) hours of highway driving (from vermont to new hampshire). a trouble light (wrench icon) appeared. engine rpms fluctuated, but vehicle would not respond to the gas pedal. pulled over, waited a few minutes, restarted the car. trouble light was no longer on, and the vehicle was fine and normal for the rest of the ride home. brought car to portsmouth ford, who could not find any problem. second incident, january 2011: highway drive back to new hampshire from connecticut. same problem. abrupt and alarming drop in car speed. no throttle control. erratic engine rpm performance. attempted to pull off interstate highway to a safe area. waited 5 minutes. re-started the engine. trouble light gone, engine performed fine, and no issue the rest of the trip. brought the car for transmission service to valvoline, then to dowling ford where the vehicle was purchased. third incident, march 2011: after (2) hours of highway driving abrupt drop in engine speed while attempting to merge on interstate 84. lost throttle control. near collision with a tractor-trailer in bad weather while trying to get out of the way and off the highway. frightening experience. brought car to bob thomas ford in hamden, connecticut for a transmission program update and complete transmission service. dealer could not find a problem with the vehicle. fourth incident, june 24, 2011: again on i-84 in the rain after 2.5 hours of highway cruising. radical loss of engine power and vehicle speed. my daughter barely avoided a collision attempting to maneuver off the highway in heavy traffic with erratic throttle control. daughter called me in a panic, crying. waited off the highway a few minutes, re-started, and was fine. car no longer used on the highway, just locally. the consumer also stated the alternator failed. updated portable 08/23/11 updated 09/14/11*jb

2006 ford freestyle transmission and throttle control problems. bought this vehicle used with 99k miles, days after buying multiple problems appeared. first the throttle body failed, vehicle would accelerate and decelerate randomly while driving and idling in gear. the vehicle was at dealer for two weeks getting it repaired. they replaced throttle body control twice before problem was eliminated. second the cvt transmission failed, wrench and traction control lights would come on and vehicle would lose all drive power, would do it about every 10 miles eventually before the dealer finally agreed the transmission was bad. they rebuilt it twice and still had same problem, they took it to a transmission shop finally to have it repaired. vehicle was in the shop over a month for this. i do not look forward to future repair cost knowing that this will continue to be a problem since ford nor the nhtsa will do a [xxx]thing about it. thank you ford and thank you nhtsa, looks like the little guy/taxpayer takes it in the rear again! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).*tr

When driving, my car loses power. sometimes when moving slowly, i engage the gas pedal and lose power. sometimes when i engage the gas to move from a stopped position, my car will start to go and then lose power. the car does not shut off, it just won't move, and then suddenly does. the dealer replaced the throttle body, but this is still happening. they said unless they can get the problem to happen when they are driving it, there is nothing they can do to help further. this is very scary and i'm sure it's a matter of time before there is an accident. when i put my car in reverse, sometimes it revs up before actually moving. i have had many problems with this vehicle, starting in the 20,000 miles. bad window motor, bad brakes, intermittent dash board clearance, air conditioning mechanism leaking into car. the dealer did replace the window motor, brakes and air conditioning problem, but had no explanation on the dash lights resetting. my paint is bubbling up on the hood of my car. ford offered to fix this for $850. the bubbling started at 39,000 miles. i did not pay them to fix this, as i feel ford should be responsible for this. when ford had my car last, they replaced a sway bar and did not tighten the nut, i then had the abs light come on and they replaced the wheel speed sensor and tightened the nut. my car clunked so bad, i fear that this caused additional suspension problems. i've always had noise in the front end, especially on a tight turn. the greased the front end, but that does not fix the problem. today, my car only has 45,000 miles on it, but unfortunately, my warranty is up and i know that one day when i put my foot on the gas pedal, it's not going to move. i was told by a ford service rep. that the cvt transmission cannot be replaced, so when it does fail, i'm out of luck, there is no repair for this. recall please

I have a 2006 ford freestyle that lurches or surges without acceleration. i first noticed it when reversing out of parking spaces. it now occurs much more frequently. i think it may happen more when the car has been idling for a while. last weekend the car had been idling for a while then when i backed out of the parking space and had the wheel turned as far as it would go, the car died. then thursday when turning around - again wheel was completely turned - car surged and then died again. i restarted it and the car did not respond well to acceleration. the rpm's went up but i could not accelerate fast at all and the car had a hard time responding. it seemed to even out after getting to 40mph, but getting there was difficult. the yellow wrench light appeared on the dash indicating a power train issue. the car continues to lunge or surge backward or forward without accelerating. it is very scary and i am very concerned i will not be able to stop the car one of these times and may hit someone or something. *tr

My car would die and then start again. it also would surge forward with the brake applied. the dealer said it was the throttle body and replaced it, which was not covered on the extended warranty plan. it is now happening again (september of 2012). i have researched this and found that many people have said they have had the same problem, some replacing this part twice during their ownership of the vehicle. this is an extremely expensive problem and it needs to be investigated. it should not be something that has to be fixed multiple times. i feel that a recall on this vehicle should be made. *tr

Wrench lite came on show a problem with transmission. the vehicle only had 62,000 miles. took to ford dealership was told the transmission needs to be rebuild. which would cost $5,100. on september 12 the transmission went out. vehicle with only 62,000 mile should not have transmission problems. *tr

2006 ford freestyle surging when brake is on. problem is worse when the ac is running. this is a very dangerous issue. it happens when you do not want to go such as tight parking spaces, school parking lots, drive thru fast food places, etc. the car will also have a big surge and then lose power. happened to me in a busy intersection. awesome car but the safety is being compromised and needs to be addressed. *tr

2006 ford freestyle transmission problem. my car has 110k miles and i was informed that i need an new transmission. i was driving on the interstate and my car lost power. it wouldn't go fast enough to be considered a safe driving speed on the interstate. i haven't had it repaired yet because i can't afford it. this issue should be a recall. *tr

When the motor is running and i put it in gear either in reverse or forward the car lunges. it also happens at stop signs or red lights. if the car is stopped and i remove my foot from the brake, it lunges. it will stop if i hit the brake. *kb

I purchased this vehicle because i have five kids i drop off and pick up from school. about 8 months ago while waiting in the school line during stop and go traffic, i took my vehicle out of park and into drive when my car lunged forward. i pressed down on my brakes even harder because the car felt as if it was going to take off. then i put it in park. the wrench and emissions light came on and the car stalled. i turned the engine off and on again and it started back up, but it happened to me four more times that day before i could make it home. when i took it into the dealer they said the part i needed was not available. the best they could do is clean out the part it needed. they charged me $300.00 gave me a warranty for 6 months and told me to use a fuel cleaner every other tank. now 9 months later it is doing the exact same thing. only this time my a/c is also going bad. the passenger and rear cabin are blowing out hot air, and the drivers side is blowing out cold air only when driving. *tr

I had the classic throttle body issue, with the surging in reverse and drive, then the car dying. the car would also go "limp" from time to time, with no acceleration. i had the throttle body replaced, but the very day i got my car back, it continued to go "limp", with the transmission light coming on. it did it once in the middle of a major highway intersection, and another time on a country 2-lane road with a speeding truck behind me. both times, my life was endangered. now, ford says i need a new transmission!! *tr

Engine surging unexpectedly and violently in gear at idle. i have had the throttle body replaced three times, and on 7-2-2014 it has begun this surging again. ford customer relationship line has confirmed to me that the vehicle has not cleared off of their database ( i never received the csp-12n03 letter), and the coverage for replacement of the part has expired as of 5-31-2013. ford asked me to keep all of my receipts when i replace the throttle body for the fourth time so that if ford enacts a new coverage, i will have my paperwork in order. no promise of a notice letter however. *tr

Throttle body failure occurred at 40,400 miles during family vacation w/4 passengers. symptoms began while crossing the hoover dam. vehicle lunged/surged forward in 1st gear (had to hold brake tight and slip into neutral to avoid impact with car). the following day the vehicle lunged in reverse (nearly striking pedestrian in parking lot). vehicle began stalling and continued lunging/surging over the next 30 mins until arrived at dealership. powertrain and engine warning lights were lit. my complaint is not related to the cost and the availability of the part, but the safety factor. i was aware of this problem (from online info) and knew what to do quickly enough to avoid an accident. the average consumer (driver) would not understand what is happening and have the ability to think quick enough to slip into neutral. additional info: throttle body issues occurred in high temp (110 range), low elevation and humidity. anti-twist engine mount (dogbone) was replaced 4 days prior. from internet search, i located one other throttle body complaint of freestyle just having upper engine mount replaced (engine mount may require removal of throttle body). *tr
