Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. while driving 40 mph, the contact noticed a message illuminating, stating "check transmission". she pressed the reset button and continued to drive. a few minutes later, the light illuminated again. the contact stopped the vehicle and had it towed to the dealer. it was determined that the throttle body failed. the manufacturer that produced the part was no longer in business; therefore, it would take months to have the vehicle repaired. the repair cost was estimated at $345. the contact is currently driving a rental vehicle while she waits for the manufacturer to decide if they will cover the cost of the rental. the manufacturer would not provide compensation because there were no recalls. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 94,000.
After idling, the car sometimes lurches forward and i have to apply the brakes to keep it from accelerating very quickly. happens in reverse also out of parking spots. ford shop says they have never heard of this despite the hundreds of complaints i have seen online. this is a dangerous situation and needs to be remedied by ford. *tr

When completely idle, still in drive, foot on the brake, rpm's surge and car lurches forward 2-3 times before dying and indicating "fail safe engine mode" on info panel. seems to happen when it's hot outside (in texas is often) and a/c on max. this is dangerous when going through pick up line at my kids school or at a light in traffic because i could hit another car or a child if my foot is not firmly pressing the brake down as the surge starts. can only be fixed at dealership and quoted around $900. *tt

2005 ford freestyle is having the same problems toyota is having. our car started accelerating on its own. dale jarrett ford replaced the computer. and since than the problem stopped. they told us that they didn't replace the computer. but we received a card in the mail from them that our computer module is in and ready to be installed. *tr

2005 ford freestyle, we went to florida back on 07/2009 it was very hot. the car started jerking, than it accelerated on its own. than it almost stopped. than it would not go faster than 35. and than it accelerated unexpectedly which we almost ran into the back of someone. when we arrived back home to nc we took it too the ford dealer who said it was the computer module. we took it in and left it for repair. the service manager called and said that we had a walmart air filter, and it needed a ford air filter. they tried to say that was the problem. but before we got the car back, we received a post card from the dealer saying our computer module that was ordered from the dealer has arrived. so the dealer told us it was the air filter when in fact it was the computer module. we beleive the dealer replaced the computer module but told us it was the air filter to avoid a costly recall. i have found on this website that this vehicle was recalled it certain parts of the usa for this reason but not in our region. the recall was due because in warmer climates this problem may occur. all of this vehicles should be repaired, because someone with this vehicle may travel to areas that are warmer than other during business trips or vacation trips. *cn
My car has a serious lunging problem. it does it mainly when the car is in drive, but also when in reverse. i have hit posts and other stationary objects a couple of times, and have multiple near misses of hitting other cars. an example would be such as when in the drive-thru at mcdonalds or other fast food places, when the car is idling. this has also happened many times when i am sitting at stop lights or waiting to make a turn. i have taken the car to the ford dealer a couple times and asked if they could check it out, always being told that they couldn't find anything wrong. is there anything that ford is doing to correct this problem? *tr

I own a 2005 ford freestyle that has been on fords lot for 67 days now. it needs a new throttle body and they are not starting production on them until oct 31st 2009. which means they will not be tested and ready for install until next year which means i will have gone 6 months without my car which i am still paying for because i just bought it last year. *tr

The car lunges unexpectently when car is stopped with the gear shift in the "drive" position or when easing forward at a low rate of speed. it was inspected at a ford service dealership who said they could not find anything wrong with it. i am afraid the vehicle is at risk for injuring someone or something do to this unexpected lunging. it seems to have a greater problem during the summer and warmer parts of the year.

When shifting from park to drive or reverse the engine will rev and the car lunges forward or backward. it is much worse with the ac on, but does it at any time. it has recently starting doing this after coming to a stop while driving. the car will then shut off and go into engine fail safe mode and has has limited power. luckily no one was directly behind us when the incident occurred.

Car lunges when coming to a stop and sometimes even after you have stopped, it lunges forward or back such as when trying to park or reverse from parking. the lunging starts happen when it is hot outside, summer months, and always if the air conditioner is on. the lunging started off small in the beginning, now its at a point that it stalls my car. i have almost run into someone while i was backing up because the car lunged even with my foot on the break. i feel incredibly unsafe driving in the summer months, i am afraid to turn on the air conditioner, because the lunging happens immediately. lunging has increased from 2009 to present. *tr

My vehicle will jump ahead at different times. most of the time it is when you put the car in gear. it lunges very quickly so you have to be aware if it at all times. the first time it happened it took me by surprise it jumped ahead so quickly. i have noticed lately when the air conditioning is in use it will jump/lunge ahead numerous times. *kb

2005 ford freestyle surges. if brakes are not immediately applied, the vehicle will hit the care in front. this occurs while stopped and waiting for traffic or traffic signal. this has been happening off and on for the last two years. *tr
I bought my 2005 ford freestyle over four years ago. after the first year the air conditioning stopped cooling as well as before and at the same time the vehicle started lurching forward when going at a slow speed when the air conditioning had be running for a short while. it is worse when you are turning the wheel and going slow such as in a drive-thru and or backing out or pulling into a parking lot. i have to keep one foot on the brake and most of the time i do not need to touch the gas pedal because its already accelerating on its own. my car now either puts it self in fail safe mode and runs real slow and or it just dies where ever we are when it starts the accelerating and lurching forward. i do not have the $900 i have heard it take to fix this problem by replacing the throttle body. maybe when its paid off in 7 months i can save the money up to get it fixed. i'm not sure the car will last that long. i can't trade it in for another car because i would worry who would get it next and maybe be in an accident and be hurt. *tr
The same thing happens every time the weather gets warm (90+ degrees f). vehicle lunges forward or back without my foot on throttle pedal and with stall when brake is pressed hard to stop lunge. have been told by several technicians that the throttle body should have been recalled. we have replaced it twice already. it has ports that "heat" it though the radiator. have been told that it shouldn't have the ports. we live in fl. this car is not made for hot weather. might be ok to leave that heated throttle body on in cooler climates, but not in fl. huge safety hazard. i have had to adjust my driving to compensate for the lunging. (i throw vehicle in neutral instead of pressing brake so that the lunging stops) also, i can sometimes press the gas pedal and the vehicle does not move at all. *tr

I heard about the 2005-2007 ford freestyle investigation regarding sudden acceleration. my wife drives a 2005 freestyle. this same thing has happened to me when i have driven her car. my foot has been on the brake so it has not caused an accident. the acceleration is pronounced and is potentially dangerous. i have not noticed this happening for a while however. maybe computer updates at the dealership have already corrected this? *tr

I purchased my 2005 ford freestyle new in january 2006. after two years i started to experience various unintended accelerations. i took the vehicle to a ford authorized dealership and had it checked out. their work order indicated they had performed an "eec test code p2106 (throttle position sensor), it also indicated a pin point test qe1, qe9, and they proceeded to replace the throttle body". the problem went away for some time and after a few months the vehicle started to do the same thing again (acceleration). the problem really gets worse with the a/c on and while i try to maneuver into parking spaces or while i'm at a full stop waiting to turn. i have since used less my vehicle. this issue causes a great burden on me and my family since this is our daily driver and we are trying to avoid any mishaps that could involve an accident with another vehicle or person. *tr
