Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford freestar. the contact stated that while attempting to change a tire using the manufacturers jack, the jack failed. the vehicle barely missed landing on the contacts foot. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 113,000. the vin was not available.

Failure of transmission. i had my transmission overhauled 35,000 miles ago on my ford freestar and now i'm going to have to do it again or replace it entirely. i've noticed online that many others have had the same problem with the same year and model as mine. *tr

Had transmission fixed in jan 2010 and my transmission just went out again march 10 2011... i have had nothing but problems with this vehicle ranging from broken motor mounts, tranny, a/c, radiator, spark plugs 02 sensors and so forth. this is the 5th time i have reported on here. please do something before it kills more people. on top of this, i was driving and the dvd player fell out of the ceiling landing on my child's legs causing bruises. *tr

A car jack, part number 3f2z17080ab, that comes standard with 2004 ford freestar minivans, bent while supporting the van causing the vehicle to fall, crush and kill the owner that was under the vehicle doing repairs in the right front wheel well. updated 05/26/11 *bf *tr updated 09/08/11 *bf updated 1/5/12 *cn...updated 10/03/12 *bf updated 10/4/2012 *js

I have a 2004 ford freestar sel minivan. the original transmission was replaced at approx. 56k miles due to torque converter failure (so i was told by the dealer service advisor). now the van has 123k miles on it and the transmission light came on again. the fault code is p0732 gear 2 incorrect ratio. the transmission will hold 1st gear and not shift unless forced to. the problem is intermittent, at this time, but when the ambient temp is above 85f, the problem occurs. ford has advised me that 2nd gear has failed. i do not tow with this vehicle. it is used specially for transporting my family and is not abused. i find this performance very unacceptable!! a transmission should last a lot longer than 60k miles!! i have read multiple complaints with the same characteristics. i would like to know if this problem is under investigation and if ford is being forced to address this. is ford issuing a recall? currently my van is operable until the transmission failure light illuminates. i can tell the problem is getting worse and i'm sure it will be inoperable soon. *tr

Transmission failed at 80 mph in the middle of i-85 in atlanta, ga. the car was hauled garage in laurencville, ga where a new transmission was installed at great expense. the old transmission was left at nobody's garage in laurenceville, ga. *tr

Driving down a small hill, came to a complete stop. made a right hand turn started to accelerate and lost all power. drifted to the left hand side off the road and came to a complete stop in the left drive lane of the highway. very dangerous spot to be in. *tr

I bought a 2004 ford freestar with 16000 miles indicated on the odometer in 2005. the transmission failed at approximately 100,000 miles. i paid to have a used transmission installed at a cost of $2100 in 2009. the used transmission also failed after a period of approximately 4 months and i am left with a useless pile of parts. i have researched this situation through the internet and have found that many other owners of ford freestar minivans have experienced the same problems. is the nhtsa planning any investigation on this issue? thanks for your assistance. *tr

My wife was driving to fairborn ohio from cincinnati in our 2004 ford freestar. this was purchased new by us. warranty was 3 year/36,000 miles. the van has 54,000 miles & while traveling on october 24th, 2009 ohio, the van would not go above 30 mph on the highway. the transaxle light came on & started flashing. we ended up getting the van towed from fairborn to our home. the technician that tested the van for codes & said the "torque converter clutch was stuck in the shut position & caused the fluid to overheat". long story short, we needed a new transmission. the transmission was serviced at 30,000 miles per the maintenance log at our dealership. this could of caused a severe accident while traveling on the highway at that slow speed. a vehicle regardless of make should not have a major mechanical failure of this with only 54,000 miles on it. the thing that rattles my cage is this is supposed to be our "reliable" vehicle. i'm thankful my kids were not in the van. so $2300 later we have a transmission & our holiday goals are shot to '!@#$%. this transmission style needs a recall !!! plain and simple. after this happened to us, i researched the issue & i am not alone. many people that have the same make, model year & transmission issues that i have. so thanks to this issue our "holiday spirit" is gone. *tr

The factory installed jack broke at the hinges, and my vehicle fell on my father. *tr updated 07/02/12 *bf the consumer stated when the jack failed, it bent outward at the hinges. updated 07/05/12

Very dangerous. i was driving home with my kids and my grandkids in the car and all of a sudden with no warning, no lights, no nothing, the car recs into high rpm's and then all of a sudden just coasting hoping to not crash the vehicle. no power, wow what a mess. i have read all of the forums on this, ford or the nhtsa doing anything on this, these cars are suppose to be safe and when things go wrong with them you atleast get a warning of some kind with lights. this really needs to be recalled before someone gets hurt or killed in this matter. i myself was lucky it died at the top of the hill so i coasted to my closest spot off the highway so there was not an issue with carrying babies on the highway? ford should address this problem immediately. this is suppose to be a family vehicle not a deadly drive. please take care of this immediately so this does not happen to others. *tr

2004 ford freestar. consumer states vehicles drives rough, stating vehicle accelerates and decelerates on its own *tgw the consumer stated the vehicle would slow down and then speed up with rapid jerking. the consumer had the egr replaced at a cost of $289.97. also, the air conditioner compressor, ignition coil and main computer had to be replaced. *jb

Experienced a very loud squealing noise that appeared to be coming from the front wheels - this usually occurred at speeds >60 mph. when the steering wheel was turned slightly to the right, the noise would cease. when the wheels were straightened again, the noise would continue. took the vehicle to the dealer with no issues found. i had suggested at that time that the problem appeared to be front wheel bearing related or something of that nature - no issues found with the vehicle at that time. the problem continued. took the vehicle back 2 months later - reported that this was a known issue for the bearings to be replaced (and some other non-specific work with the hubs). this is listed in the recall section for this vehicle as a known issue since 2004!! why was this not taken care of previously under a recall and why did they not see the bulletin on this the first time i took the vehicle in?*jb

This is a general compliant about my 2004 ford freestar. the problems started almost immediately after driving the car away from the dealer. 1. i was at a stop light and the rubber cover fell off of the brake pedal. 2. the next thing was the keyless remote worked about 50% of the time to open the passenger doors. 3. then after about the first 500 miles of driving, the steering wheel oscillated in my hands when coming to a stop. 4. also when driving there were several annoying sounds. 5 finally, and this is the most annoying of all, i can't run the heater in the cold weather because excessive hot air comes from the defrost vents even though i have the control set to 'floor vents' only. now what has the ford dealers done about the problems? 1. i replaced the rubber cover on the brake pedal. 2. the dealers refuse to fix the keyless remote problem. they claim it is working fine even though i took it to independent alarm tech who told me the 'unlock all' receiver needs to be replaced. 3. the oscillation of the steering wheel while stopping was ' fixed' by one dealer by grinding down a warped brake rotor. this repair, which i objected to ford not replacing the rotor with a new rotor, only lasted a few thousand miles and the problem recurred. i took it to another dealer who replaced the bad rotor. 4. one of the annoying sounds was fixed by one dealer but not all of the sounds. i took it to another dealer and all were fixed. 5. the dealers refuse to fix the problem of excessive hot air coming from the defrost vent. i have to duct tape over the defrost vent to be able run the heater. then i have to pull the duct tape away if the windshield fogs over inside the car. in general i think the quality of this car is the worst that i have ever owned and i have owned several new cars in my almost 70 years of age. *jb

When using the headliner-mounted dvd system screen, visibility through the rear view mirror is completely obscured. when reported to ford as a major safety issue, i was told via my dealer that the ford engineers said to use my side view mirrors. this seems highly inadequate when the van is sold based on its enhanced safety features. this was not an issue with the windstar, and in my opinion, is a major design flaw that will cause accidents due to inadequate visibility. *la
