Transmission shudders, hesitates, and vibrates when accelerating from a stop and shifting between first and second gear. this is an automatic transmission. sometimes the car will not accelerate quick enough so it can be dangerous when pulling into an intersection with moving cars. ford says that it is normal. the car vibrates so bad my comatose kids (always on phone) even mention why the car feels so shaky. for a new car it is unacceptable. i have a 12 year old car that is much smoother than this and it is worth $1200. not to mention safer.
Vehicle seems to hesitate when stepping on gas
I was driving on my way home, and my car stalled in the middle of the road. i had to throw the car in neutral and crank it back up and slam it into drive and speed off, because i was going to get hit both directions. the transmission shudders hard in between gears, stalls out on hills/ struggles on hills, it fails to accelerate in the moment, the car fails to know what gear it wants to be in. that's just the beginning. i live in the city a small area not very populated but i still deal with stop and go traffic the transmission jerks hard if you don't start moving at a steady pace. the highway though it does relatively well, but that's when other problems start i have loss of power at times while in cruise control, it will bounce back and fourth like i have bad gas or something, it also has a very bad glitch with the windshield wipers (they hit each other). i have had the upmost problems with this car primarily the transmission, but that's not all folks. i do however feel this car is such a safety hazard to people, i have a "dont buy a focus" sticker going down both sides of my cars windows. i'm stuck with this car because of credit issues so i'm going to let everyone know my story if i can save them having problems not even a year after buying this brand new focus. all ford had to say is it's a clutch problem if completely safe. that's even when i told them i didn't feel safe and i didn't want to drive it till they did something about it. i'm not on transmission clutch set #5 i've dealt with so much lost time because of this matter and ford should be held completely responsible. start date for the problems is the day i bought the car. dont buy a focus!!!!
I bought the car in april 2016. i had it less than two weeks before i took it back to the dealership over the transmission. i don't think i'd even put 500 miles on it yet. of course they told me to bring it back after 1,200 miles since the that's the transmissions "greenbelt period". it's been back, needless to say i'm still having the issue. when the light turns green, i hit the gas and the car goes nowhere. it revs up to about 2,000 rpm, then drops back down, engages the gear and starts to move. and when it finally does start to move, it crawls away like a turtle. even if i go pedal-to-the-metal, it makes no difference. i don't think i've ever yelled at the car i'm in to "move it's ass". it's pathetic. i have the 4 cylinder model too. while trying to merge on the interstate under heavy acceleration, the car pops out of gear and will redline while losing speed rapidly. i've nearly been rear-ended 6 times trying to get on the interstate. fortunately (or unfortunately perhaps) my car has the ford selectshift transmission, so i've learned to put it into selectshift mode and keep the car in 2nd or 3rd gear until i've made it on to the interstate. at that point, i move the shifter back into "drive" (d) and pray the car accelerates when i hit the gas. but i'm not done. when switching lanes on the interstate, i have to be sure that the lane i'm moving to has at least at 5 car gap because once i've switched lanes and hit the accelerator to pass, move into my new lane and lift my foot, the car continues to accelerate for another second or two, then pops out of gear and reengages. i chose the first date it happened for "when did this happen?". the issue persists today, august 29th, 2016. the car currently has 8,500 miles on it.

The transmission on this vehicle shudders, especially when cornering . this shudder has become more pronounced,
When i am accelerating from a complete stop it shutters very bad. it happens when turning and i have to speed up, it really gets bad when i'm at a complete stop and i have to take off uphill. it almost feels like it is having problems going into gear. it only does this when i am accelerating. i told ford marshal in o'fallon mo and they said it was the "clutch and it was within limits." (whatever that means)this is when i still had a warranty. but now i don't. i'm a little disappointed in this matter. they should have fixed it while i had a warranty.
Shakes shutters since new have had in twice. said both times not shaking or shuttering enough yet. um im 52 i am a mechanic. we all know this is lemon i have owned numerous fords and would like this resolved
