I was driving in slow moving traffic, due to a broken stop light, for about 20 minutes..when the display indicator began alarming, and said "transmission overheating, stop safely" there was no reason for this warning indicator to turn on, and there was no possible way to stop right where i was. i have also smelled burning coming from the engine and notice that at times my car will not accelerate or it seems to shudder and stammer when accelerating from a stop. the gear shift also will not go into drive and instead goes into neutral on its own. i feel very unsafe when driving.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. while the gear was in reverse, the vehicle accelerated forward instead of in reverse. the failure occurred intermittently. there were no warning indicators illuminated. crown ford (256 swain st, fayetteville, nc 28303, (910) 920-9614) diagnosed that the clutch needed to be repaired. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 91,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. while driving unknown speeds, the transmission slipped without warning. the vehicle was taken to stillwell ford lincoln (3780 w carleton rd, ste m-99 hillsdale, mi 40242) where it was diagnosed that the clutch and seal kit needed to be replaced at 4,000 miles. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. while driving 30 mph, the transmission slipped and failed while shifting into first and second gear without warning. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the clutch and seal kit needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the issue and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was 40,000. *tt
First problem were the transmission shifting very hard and on a couple of occasions the car would not go into reverse when trying to back out of my driveway. dealer recoded the transmission. car is now still shifting very hard, sometimes the rpms will hit 4,000+ before it will hard downshift. other time i have had to press on the brake to get the rpms down. also while on cruise control the rpms will also rev to 4,000 when trying to slow down. on a recent trip when i cancelled the cruise control the car actually sped up on two separate occasions. car continues to shift hard and what other people in the car have described as the transmission slipping. this has been ongoing for almost a year now. dealer always says they have not heard anyone else complain about the transmission which is funny since i get class action lawsuit mail about every other week about it.
From a stop, transmission hesitates while shifting through the lower gears. when this happens, i get a shuddering in the vehicle that doesn't stop until the transmission shifts again. vehicle has 35,000 miles on it.
When reversing car out of parking spots car hesitates. car hesitates while driving. car stops in middle of road. car shudders and hesitates to pick up speed. car sometimes will not pick up speed. i have been told to pick up my car three times from ford auto body shop this week and took it back within minutes after because it is not working still. they replaced my clutch twice and other parts inside of the transmission.
The cars steering has on 3 occasions in 2 months lost steering! the steering wheel shudders and locks up and we lose control on a turn! this has happened at 30 miles per hour and at 5 miles . it's been to ford 4 times the transmission clutch changed twice a new motor mount but they keep stating if there is no code and it doesn't happen in front of them there isn't anything to fix. i also notified ford motor company and received a case number but they denied the claim!
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. when initially starting the vehicle, it failed to accelerate and made a noise as if it were forcing the engine to go into gear. when the vehicle reached 40 mph, it drove smoothly. the failure occurred for approximately twelve days. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 22,000....updated 12/11/17 *bf the consumer stated the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice. the clutch was replaced the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired. updated 12/15/2017*js
Sometime while accelerating the car will randomly go from 2k rpm to over 6k rpm but you cant here the engine and it loses power and starts to jerk violently. once you release gas and the rpm's go back down to 2k then you can try to accelerate again. i thought this issue was just because it was cold the 1st time it happened but now it is happening more frequently. i've only had this car for little under a year and it has less then 20k miles on it.
Poor performance of auto transmission on 2016 ford focus titanium involves hesitation when accelerating, "chattering" when accelerating, "sliding" into gear when shifting, slipping when shifting. clutch replaced once. going in again with same symptoms.
My 2016 and my 2015 ford focus has transmission problems. they will not hold a hill and then start to roll backwards if in drive and waiting at a light. the transmission will slip in left or right turns and will also have clutch engaging problems. both vehicles has been a very troublesome vehicle when it comes to being able to drive forward. i do not trust them when making a left turn when traffic is coming because of the slippage makes it very difficult to be safe.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. while accelerating from a stop sign, the vehicle jerked without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (frank fletcher ford lincoln, 3015 turkey creek rd, joplin, mo 64801) where it was diagnosed that the clutch and the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted at 800-392-3673 and stated that the failure was normal. a case number was not provided. the approximate failure mileage was 20,500. the vin was not available.
There is a huge issue with the transmission on this cars. the transmission shutters, jugs, vibrate really bad and grinds to the point is frustrating and a lot of people are going thru this. ford says there is nothing to do about it. i would like to have a good working transmission on my car. this car is only 18 miles and i dont even use it that much as every time gets worst. this happens right after you start driving the car. you need to drive slow so that you dont feel this issue. i really hate my car for that reason. is really good in gas but that is it! https://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/focus/2016/recalls/ also info here https://californialemonlawgroup.com/2017-ford-focus-new-look-same-problematic-transmission/ i am possitive i am not the only one and this should be investigated. i wish sometimes i could just retur or get another car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. while driving at slow speeds, the transmission shifted erratically in first, second, and third gears. the vehicle was taken to mark mclarty ford (located at 4400 landers rd, north little rock, ar 72117, (501) 945-1200) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to provide a definitive cause for the failure. the contact was informed by the dealer that there was currently no known remedy. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 7,000.
Transmission slips
My car shudders and jerks while taking off or at low speeds, i have put it in the shop several times with ford. they replaced the clutch the first time and every time since tells me there is nothing wrong, this is just the way the transmission for these models performs. they offered to trade in my vehicle but was only offering below kbb value due to the issues with shuddering and jerking.
Transmission sluggish, de accelerates has caused two accidents one on this car and the other on my other 2016 ford focus which i got rid of lastjuly
My vehicle shutters and lurches when accelerating from a stop, and has issues while the automatic transmission shifts. this has been ongoing for several years. it has not "failed", but looking online, there are several blogs and reports on this same issue. when sending a complaint to ford and the local dealership, i keep getting told that there are no known issues with the production of the ford focus and its transmission. i just got done reading an article i found on fox new, where it states that there is an investigation by government agencies into the issue of ford knowing about the possibility of a defective or problematic transmission.
Car shudders upon taking off whether fast or slow; okay after in motion but is getting worse. took to dealer they said had recall for shuddering on 2015, not on 2016. had 2009 focus previously so opted to upgrade. sorry we did, embarrassed to take anyone with us as it does not ride smooth on starting from a stop. jerks like someone trying to learn to shift and not doing clutch right. love the looks of the car, but never take anyone with and leery to take it on a lengthy trip as i am not sure if something will happen. the dealer said they had many complaints but nothing they could do it was within range. took to another dealer and mechanic confirmed they too had complaints about it. something about not having a torque converter or something. took back to where i bought it and have another appointment next week, they are going to hook something up and drive a while and said it may need new clutch. i say if there are ongoing complaints and many others have same issue, they need to fix it when it is in for service; not wait for a recall. i would like it resolved soon or will trade it in for another brand; i.e. toyota. it is a shame to have a pretty car sit in the garage and make hefty payments on it while it continues to depreciate. i wish i had my old car back. note: this has been ongoing since we purchased vehicle but below it asks when and wants a specific date so i just entered 05/01/2017.
Bought new on 12/25/2015. started hesitating starting off, skipping like spinning tires.got worse and like going over strips in the road. akin replaced the computer and the clutch 9/2016. did fine then started again. had it checked and could not make it duplicate the problem (01/2017). just this week (04/06/2017 it started doing it again, and quickly increased happening. 04/07/2017 was so bad it would not change from 1st to 2nd gear and now has a scratching/rattling noise. called dealer and service dept. says to call in the morning and set appt. to bring in. had husband riding this time and it is the transmission. also has a slight drop or hesitation while driving as it seems to be dropping back in power and then picks back up. very dangerous and scary. this happens starting off from a stop, turning from stop, going down the highway. i did not have the air turned on!
1) transmission shuddering on startup (@ 2000 miles), 2) we took the car to a ford dealer at 3000 miles and were told the transmission tested within acceptable ford limits. wtf? 3) now transmission fails to engage during acceleration from a standing start - engine revs and then takes off unexpectedly (@ 4000 miles).
I purchased the vehicle feb 23, 2017 with 137 miles on it. drove it off the lot within a month of having the car it starting making a weird noise kind of like a clanking noise in the front engine area, contacted the dealership they stated this was normal noises for a 2016 ford focus. the noises continued to get louder took it back this time they said it was the clutch downshifting(mind you it makes the noise before the car even has a chance to even get to a speed high enough to shift so how is it downshifting?) it also is having issues with the remote start you start it with the remote start it shuts off, start it again shuts off again, start it for the 3rd time it starts you go to unlock the car to get in and the car shuts off again ( not normal and it was installed from the factory not aftermarket) now the car has been hesitating to shift as well as lunging when it does shift and when we bring it to the dealerships service department they tell us this is all normal and they have a bulletin from ford stating that it is "normal " for this year vehicle.
Transmission shudders, shakes, bangs, mis-shifts, etc. while driving; mostly during up or down shifts. this is dangerous. dealer romano ford in fayetteville, ny has given up; we all know there is no repair.
When taking off vehicle shutters. vehicle also will slam into gear when accelerating. vehicle will sometimes have delayed reaction when stepping on gas- making entering highways/ traffic circles/ pulling onto busy roadways dangerous. vehicle has been 'fixed' by authorized ford dealerships 3 times, about to be 4.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. the contact stated that the transmission failed to function properly because the gears were slow to change over. when the gears finally changed over, the vehicle lunged forward. the dealer (fremont ford, 39700 balentine dr, newark, ca 94560, (510) 651-5600) stated that the condition was not severe enough to replace the transmission and clutch assembly. the contact was uncertain if the dealer provided an appropriate remedy and was waiting for the manufacturer to provide a solution. the vehicle was parked and stored due to the intermittent failure. the approximate failure mileage was 14,000.
Vehicle experiencing transmission shutter relating to service bulletin 16-0109. progressively getting worst and i am scared it will cause an accident. took vehicle in 3 times for the same issue. also issues with display and phone unable to hang up during calls while using displays button and steering button.
When i first bought the car it started making noise when i drove it i took it in they said they fixed the problems it was still under warranty. after a couple of weeks it started making the same noises so when i had time a couple of months later i took it in again and they told me it was the transmission and that my warranty was not active anymore. it made the same noises the first time i took it in and they never said it was the transmission it was a wheel problem. i'm asking for help on what to do thanks.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power and would not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. also, the overheating warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle entered into "limp home" mode, which allowed the use of the vehicle but not over 5 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle experienced multiple engine failures and the engine would need to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the transmission warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle still experienced hesitation. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 14,000. updated 08/29/17*lj *cn
Sometimes while backing the vehicle (vehicle in reverse) the vehicle will lurch forward. the vehicle is in motion when this happens and the vehicle is going in reverse. the gear shift lever does not move from the reverse indicator. i took vehicle to the dealer who checked it out and could not locate a problem. this happened again today. this time the vehicle traveled a few feet forward. this was at my residence.
Ongoing problems with the transmission in my focus. after numerous returns to the dealer, twice for clutch kit replacements and at least 5-6 times for other "adjustments" it still has problems. jerking, hesitation, loss of power even while driving. i pulled out of a shopping plaza the other day and was almost rear ended by another car because the car would not move for several seconds. this has happened several times. my car will feel like it's downshifting and dragging, even while i'm driving at a steady speed. it jerks and shudders when i accelerate at a stop light or stop sign. rpm dial often goes all the way to 8 or 9 until the car finally shifts. dealer can not seem to fix this. also, at times when moving again after a stop, the car will feel like it's "banging" underneath. have addressed this with service at the dealer, but it still does it. this has been happening constantly for the two plus years i've had it. i have many documents and repair receipts to download, please let me know when and if you will need them.
This has occurred with all my ford focus since 2014 most recently on or about 02/10/2017. when i enter a freeway of going uphill my vehicle downshifts and then takes about 3-6 seconds to upshifts rendering the vehicle helplessly at the mercy of of the traffic coming from behind. several times i had to quickly drive off the road to avoid being crushed by a truck. on my earlier purchased 2016 vehicle bought in december of 2015. the vehicle went through a reprogramming of the trany. i traded my vehicle for this current 2016 ford focus that has the same issue. this a lemon as far as i am concerned as which is all over the internet. i will bring back to the dealer. i also believe it occurs only when the a/c or heat blower are on the same time. this only occurs when in motion.
Automatic transmission makes rattling noises when starting and stopping. it hesitates when it tries to downshift and lurches when it gets to the right gear. it will stay in a higher ear for too long causing the engine to strain. the dealership says it is normal and can't be fixed.
Brought my ford focus december 2016 new off the lot. started noticing a shuttering, hesitation within the transmission during slow take off and when i try to speed up. i got a class action lawsuit card in the mail a few days ago inference to this issue. haven't took it to the shop yet because i only have one car in my family. something has to be done with this issue. i had a near miss because the car would not shift like its designed to do so when starting off.
Our car was manufactured with a bad transmission, just as our previous ford had been. 1. ford never recalled either car. we had to go to them. 2. this 2016 focus was repaired, and the only assurance they can give us is that it will fail again. meanwhile, they will not even take the car in to inspect how it is misbehaving now.
Letter from senator portman on behalf on constituent re the safety of 2016 ford focus. *ld the consumer stated the vehicle's transmission failed after only 9,000 miles. the consumer was advised that the transmission failure was a very common occurrence with this vehicle, the repairs were temporary because of the design not the parts, and the failure would more than likely recur in 9,000 miles or less. the consumer would like for the manufacturer to purchase the vehicle back for the full original purchased amount. the vehicle was temporarily repaired. updated 05/16/2017*js updated 07/26/2017*js
At 400 miles the car had a transmission overheat a warning light came on that said transmission over heating pull over wait 5 minutes going slowly up a slight incline in traffic. i have also noticed the transmission does not downshift as the vehicle speed declines and the transmission has a grinding noise in the casing when turning and when the transmission does not downshift.
Transmission slips constantly. vehicle has a transmission that is manual with clutch plates but operates as automatic. i find it shudders at about 18/19 miles per hours shifting from 1st to 2nd gears. this is hazardous when pulling out into traffic because it is intermittent and you never know if your car is going to go or shudder until it finds the gear. the transmission clutch plates have been replaced once and it has been in twice more for transmission issues. not what i expected when i purchased a new car and was not told by the dealership that this was the way the transmission worked. vehicle is less than 3 years old and has been in 3 times for transmission and needs to go again. first issue was 12/12/16, vehicle was 2 months old and has been ongoing.
In accelerating from a stop or slow roll, there is noticeable hesitation and bucking of the vehicle. this is at all times and not just an intermittent problem! we were told this was "normal" by ford service, but that no repairs were called for until the situation got worse!!! the problem involved the clutch and the powershift transmission.
Transmission has skipped since i drove out of the lot. now it's slipping so bad my days it needs a new transmission put in. this causes delay when accelerating and that pause in heavy traffic is very dangerous. i have 100,000 mile warranty but the dealership is giving me the run around.
Vehicle transmission stutters, hesitates and shakes upon takeoff. no accident has occurred due to this condition but several close calls have occurred. the dealership that inspected the vehicle complaint could in fact replicate the complaint but stated the transmission didn't hesitate and stutter"enough" to warrant a fix. it seems waiting for a fatality is not the correct stance for ford prior to having a recall for this problem or to fix this individual transmission problem. i understand there is currently a class action proceeding regarding these faulty transmissions. the dealer readily admitted this transmission is a problem but ford does not care to address it. *tr
Transmission shudders upon take off , and funny noise on bottom end of vehicle. seems to have no acceleration between 1st & 2nd gear.
Takata recall there is a rattling noise while driving, along with vibration and transmission shudder in second gear. the car feels like it wants to give out. there is also a grinding noise while breaking and turning. all of the concerns mentioned are while driving regardless of city street or highway. the rattling noise will sometimes occur while the car is off and parked, especially right after shutting the car off.
When driving vehicle and attempting to shift manual transmission into 3rd gear the clutch remained stuck to the floor and vehicle would move very slowly. clutch did return after 3 secs but this can cause accident if it occurs again.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. the contact stated that the front end of the vehicle shook at start up and while driving. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for diagnostic testing, but a failure code was unable to be located. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 9. updated 06/07/17*lj
My 2016 focus has been giving me issues since i purchased it in august 2016. i have experienced excessive shuddering and jerking during acceleration at a slow or fast acceleration. i heard a ticking noise when the car is in drive or park. i finally was able to get an appointment with the service department to get the issue checked out but its 2 weeks away(8/15/17). all ford dealerships in baton rouge, la are backup due to the issues with the transmission. one of the service departments told me that all they can do is reset the transmission and it should fix the problem. the ford dealership i brought my car from told me that they don't have a transmission guy to even look at my car and to go somewhere else.
I am writing to report a problem with delays in gas pedal responsiveness. this has caused several potentially dangerous conditions in the following scenarios: (1) the car continues to accelerate after the gas pedal is let off (2) there is a delay between pressing the gas pedal and receiving acceleration (this is not a problem with the car being under powered, it can accelerate fine at the same rpm. here, it will simply act as if the accelerator is not down) (3) 3-point turns or parallel parking in traffic cannot be done quickly/smoothly, since there is no power for a few seconds once the car is in gear. the car will not provide gas to the engine when shifted into gear. this is most noticeable the car is first shifted, but can also occur at stop signs. when you release the gas pedal, the car will continue revving up, even if you switch the brake pedal. during continuous driving, when you release the gas pedal, the car will continue revving up, even if you switch the brake pedal, before upshifting. this upshift will also jolt the car forward. if this occurs during cornering, it can make turns less stable. these unpredictable delays and rough shifts make it harder to respond to different driving conditions and also make it harder for other drivers to judge your intent. further, problems with jerkiness seem to increase in warmer weather. potentially solvable with a software update, but the dealer could not correct this problem. test drove another brand new vehicle and found some of the same behaviors, indicating it is an inherent design problem with the vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. on several occasions, when the contact released the brake pedal, the vehicle rolled backwards. the contact stated that the failure occurred whether the vehicle was on an incline or on a flat road surface. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (central ford located at 1801 ar-69 spur, truman, ar 72472) where it was determined that the vehicle was operating as designed. the contact stated that the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 17,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. while idling, the vehicle shook, a knocking noise was present coming from the engine, and oil from the engine was present under the hood. in addition, while driving various speeds, the transmission would slip into the next gear and a grinding type noise was heard coming from the differential. after starting the vehicle, the transmission would erroneously switch into the neutral position, causing the vehicle to roll away. the cause of the failures was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer and local dealer (galpin ford in van ayes, ca) were both notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 1,500.
From a stop, when pressing the gas pedal the transmission starts shuddering and excessive vibration that shakes the whole car, also will not pickup speed so pulling out into traffic is dangerous , this car is dangerous to drive. my wife refuses to drive this car. 2016 ford focus se with only15000 miles on it.....please help
The car loses too much power all the time on a highway or regular street turning or after a green light it has to push to much gas and feel almost stopped
