Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2015 Ford Focus

Over the past year my ford focus 2015 has begun suffering a terrible "shuddering" when going from stop to moving (specifically the first shift range of 15-20mph), and esp. when going from stop to moving on a turn (stopping at a stop sign then turning for example) , pushing more gas doesn't seem to help accelerate any faster. the clutch has been replaced before but the issue just keeps getting worse, and it really sucks.

2015 ford focus. driving home, almost crashed head on due to loss of steering in my vehicle. purchased new 3 miles in june 2015. still trying to get service for recall on powertrain, always told parts are not available or service requests backed up. the vehicle is unsafe and can cause fatality on the road. my current mileage is 53,181 and in no way should the steering system fail. my car is in the shop at the dealer and the cost for repair is $2100.00 plus tax which i do not have. i have researched and found many complaints about the same issues i am reporting. there should be a safety recall on the steering system. i'm struggling each day getting rides back and forth to work and i no longer feel safe with my child in an unsafe motor vehicle that could cause crash/collision. ford needs to take responsibility for defects and recall all ford focus 2015 so that others consumers can get their car repaired. as i stated before i almost crashed head on due to steering failure. not safe to drive on the rode.

The car has 101628 miles on it as mmy wife commutes to work about 1.5 hours each way per day. the transmission shutters on take off, does not know when to shift gears at times from 1st to 2nd could happen anywhere and from 3rd to 4th on the highway and now the transmission has stopped going into reverse at all. this will be the 3rd time this car has been in the dealer for this issue and the warranty has already ran out from ford but we got the extended warranty, so the repair will be on me the next time. there are times that i will ease on the gas and it does not want to roll then it will jerk and take off. by the way this problem has been going on for the 3 years we have owned the car

It no longer moves forward or back. it has 12,000. miles and i was stranded with it, and now. i really do not want it back with the same transmission pkg that fails inall the other focus also.

Issues with my transmission shuddering when accelerating from a stop in june of 2017. vehicle was taken in for diagnosis and was informed that clutch shudder was over the limit. clutch assembly on the vehicle was replaced. this was at 49131 miles. in june of 2018 same issue with shuddering transmission returned. vehicle was again taken to service department. informed that the clutch was shuddering st 443 and the max is 250. was again told that the clutch assembly needed to be replaced. this was at 71351

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. the contact stated that when he depressed the accelerator pedal to drive forward, the vehicle seized. the failure occurred intermittently and without warning. when the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it returned to normal. the vehicle was taken to dch ford of eatontown (67 nj-36, eatontown, nj 07725, 732-982-4222) where it was diagnosed that the clutch fractured. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated to move. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to friendly ford (2800 n telegraph rd, monroe, mi 48162, (734) 243-6000) where it was diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 48,888. *tt

I haven't had the car a month. started noticing the problem immediately. when i take off the car shutters and acts like its missing gears. it does it from a complete stop but also from a slow speed. it doesn't matter if it's in the city or on the highway.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. while at an intersection, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal and the vehicle jerked. when the contact released the accelerator pedal, the jerking stopped. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to shawnee mission ford (11501 shawnee mission pkwy, shawnee, ks 66203 (913) 631-0000) where it was diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was 85,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer (hennessy ford lincoln atlanta, 5675 peachtree industrial blvd, atlanta, ga 30341) where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module failed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced, and the contact would be responsible for the repair cost. the failure mileage was 67,000.

While driving at 55 mph the transmission disengaged and the vehicle quickly lost power. the car acted like the transmission was shifted into neutral since the engine revved up to high rpm but the gear selector was still showing in d. after pulling off to shoulder and stopping and shifting to park, i was able to shift back to drive and operate the vehicle. this is something that has happened several times before and is an intermittent problem. i have taken the car back to the ford dealer who has analyzed the obd and found no codes to indicate a problem. the dealer has told me that there are problems with the transmissions and clutches and tcms on these cars. the tcm was replaced already under a recall yet i am still having problems. this is a safety hazard as i do not know when the car will stop moving next. ford's regional manager refuses to admit that there is a problem and keeps referring me back to the dealer.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. the contact stated that the transmission caused the vehicle to jerk and the transmission overheating indicator illuminated several times. in addition, the engine was not functioning normally. the vehicle drove roughly and there was a reduction in power and speed, which could cause the vehicle to stall. north county ford (450 w vista way, vista, ca 92083, 1-(888) 833-0634) stated that campaign number: 18s32 (stuck canister purge valve may cause a stall) could remedy the failure. the vehicle remained at the dealer awaiting repairs. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. while driving various speeds, the contact was unable to move the gear shifter. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact coasted over to the side of the road and powered off the vehicle. the vehicle was restarted and the contact was able to drive, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to big mike naughton ford (150 s havana st, aurora, co 80012, (303) 343-1900), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

The nhtsa is non compliant with standards that they have set. from 2012-2015 ford focuses have been manufactured/sold/leased that are unsafe for public use. the safety defect is with the power train of the vehicle; the transmission fails while being operated and ian liable to cause an accident. this has happened to myself while driving and the nhtsa has ignored the issue. this safety defect meets the standards of what is required for a vehicle to be investigated with intent to recall. the secretary of transportation is not being held to her responsibility to investigate safety defects that have potential of death/injury. i request an investigation into my vehicle specifically which is a 2015 ford focus. i have done everything the manufacturer asks as far as regular maintenance, new tires when necessary, regular servicing, replacing all parts and equipment advised my the service department of my vehicles manufacturer (ford motor company). the vehicle hasn't nearly killed me 3 times and is unsafe. when will the nhtsa honor their legal requirements to take action on known safety issues?

I stopped at a stop sign, accelerated to cross the highway and the car rolled forward into traffic then the car acted as if it was in neutral and the rpms went way up but the car wouldn't go forward. luckily reverse worked or i would have been hit by a car being as i was stranded in the middle of us1 south. i had to reverse the car out of the road and onto the shoulder until a tow truck came. ford has replaced the clutch three times claiming this was the issue but my car remains unsafe. they also had my baby buy a new battery knowing that the issue was with the transmission.

Purchased my car new 2015, within months car began to shake and jerk, causing car to slow down and jerk forward. went to car dealership and told it was a known problem, and they had a permanent fix for it. tcm clutch problem. i have been back 2 more times with same problem, this last time, dealership states they will no longer fix the problem under warranty, but i will be responsible for repairs. i still owe on the car, and no other auto dealership would give me anything for it since the auto has this known problem. i am stuck with the car.

Transmission shutters and jerks feels like the car will lose power or break down

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle started to shift gears independently. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to capital ford of charlotte (5411 n tryon st, charlotte, nc 28213). the contact was informed that there was a technical service bulletin to repair the transmission control module and to replace the clutch on the vehicle. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer for diagnostic testing. from there, the dealer would determine if they would repair the vehicle for free. the contact was still awaiting the determination from the manufacturer. the vin was not provided. the failure mileage was 58,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. while driving various speeds, the engine suddenly began to shutter, which caused the vehicle to shake and vibrate. the contact indicated that the failure would often occur while slowing down. in addition, while the vehicle was idling, thumping and ticking noises were present coming from the engine compartment. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer and local dealer (bill pierre ford, 11525 lake city way n.e., seattle, wa) were notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 35,000.

Cpsc:the transmission indeed does have a bucking feel to it after it leaves an uphill ascent and goes back to level ground, yet still, sometimes maneuvers as if it was stuck in the gear and still ascending.*dt *js *tr

When accelerating, the vehicle will jump. this happens often. when accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle will buckle many times as it is accelerating.

My vehicle bucks every time i accelerate. i was told it is supposed to be this way, but it feels like it the transmission is slipping when i first accelerate and sometimes as i go through the gears.

I am having problems with the transmission on my 2015 ford focus it jerks and slips while driving. i took it to ford and was told that there is a recall on parts of the transmission. i was told the clutches are bad inside of the transmission. not sure if it's this specific part, i have done some research and found that other focus ow era are having the same problems. the ford dealer is saying this is not a recall issue on my vehicle and refusing to repair it under the warranty, i feel that this is a safety issue as well and should be addressed. my vehicle is not the only one having this problem, i have researched on line in multiple ford forums, read many articles and spoke to other focus owners having the same issues. if this can please be reviewed for safety reasons and corrected. thank you for your time.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. the contact stated that the first gear was malfunctioning and slipping. the vehicle was taken to rob sight ford (13901 washington st, kansas city, mo 64145, (816) 396-6100) where they replaced the clutch. after the repairs, the failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for repairs. the manufacturer stated that there was a design flaw with the double clutch system and did not offer assistance with the repairs. the manufacturer provided a case number and referred the contact to nhtsa to file a complaint. the failure mileage was 37,086.

I am aware that the 2013 and 2014 ford focus' have a issue that was recallable. my 2015 ford focus has the same issue. during the transition from 1st to 2nd gear the car shutters which indicates a transmission issue. i am worried the transmission will go out or cause me to wreck in the future. again, i do know that previous year cars of the same make and model have the same problem and were recalled.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact stated that the check engine and battery warning indicators illuminated, and the brakes failed when the brake pedal was depressed. the vehicle was taken to moon township ford (5304 university blvd, coraopolis, pa 15108) for diagnostic testing, but no failures were found. the contact mentioned that the check engine and battery indicators illuminated prior to this failure. the vehicle was taken to the same dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures, but offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 40,000. the vin was not available.

2015 ford focus. consumer writes in regards to defective clutch on vehicle. *ld the consumer stated the clutch shudders on acceleration. the vehicle was repaired.*js

The car shuddered and jerked when stopped and on acceleration from a stop. a metal grinding can be heard from the engine while driving during this jerking from acceleration. the car would lose power while driving. one time, the car stalled, resulting in lose of power, while i was turning left through an intersection. i have brought the car into the dealership for repair many times with no resolution of these symptoms.

There is now this grinding noise coming from my car engine. was acting up a month after i bought it in 2017. everyone said oh it's fine there's nothing wrong with it. well it acts up as soon as i start to drive it slow.... others say it's the transmission. and others say i'm stupid. it slips when you start to go. i want this fixed

This vehicle has severe issues with the transmission. it will shudder upon acceleration and slip gears. at least once while in motion, the vehicle shifted itself into neutral and i lost the ability to accelerate while on the highway. my request for relief in the class action suit was denied with no explanation or way to appeal.

When you start to drive from a complete stop, the transmission hesitates a little befor it gets going.

I have brought this vehicle,or attempted to bring it,into the dealership service department multiple times for the shuddering, stalling, overheat for no reason with system shut off,etc . at take-off from driveway, highway metering lights, lighted signals,& stop signs the car(automatic transmission)will either shudder and bounce like a manual transmission not properly shifted or initially roll slightly and then stall as if in neutral.the rpms will rev, but the car will not move.i have narrowly missed many rear-end accidents.i have paid well over a thousand dollars just on rental car fees while not able to drive this car.the service department refused to give me an appointment or take it in for many months because according to them they did not have the required parts. on other attempts they would tell me they did not have the code pop up that anything was wrong. august 2017, after the dealership had my car for multiple days when promised back same or next day, they told me there was nothing wrong & i showed them a picture i took of the control panel, then they finally took it back to work on. i also had the check engine light on & shuddering immediately when picking it up from service.i was told there was nothing more they could do and they refused to put why i brought it in for in the work orders each time i brought it in.nov 7-dec 5 2017,they had the car for an entire month.service told the ford facilitator & me that there was nothing wrong with the car no shuddering, no sounds. after almost an entire month they suddenly decided the car needed a full brake job which did nothing for the shuddering/stalling.they also let the battery die.ford motor company refused buybacks because the work orders did not say why it was brought in. i told them i would have an accident. i was trying to leave my driveway. the car stalled and the front of my car was slammed into by an suv.

I bought a new 2015 ford focus. for the last 24 months the vehicle has driven very poorly on many occasions. i have had the ford dealer keep the vehicle days at a time to fix it. the vehicle actually drives worse then ever, to the point that at times it is dangerous. i am 68 years old and cant just buy a new car on ss. i am attaching a chat log with ford today. this has gone on for approxmitly 24 months. thank you.

Since purchasing my 2015 ford focus brand new in july 2015, i was stonewalled by two dealerships over the clutch shuddering/jerking/jumping issue before a third dealership (in another state!) finally replaced it. shortly after i had a front cover oil leak that was repaired under warranty. then, one day i was driving and the lights on the visor and radio controls stopped working, they fixed most of it but the passenger visor light still doesn't work. shortly after that i started hearing a popping sound in the radio, then the radio stopped working completely. today as i was driving on the freeway on my way to work the transmission blew with no prior warning. i heard a loud noise, then the engine revved and the car slowed down. the check engine light started flashing and i was able to move to the shoulder of the highway. a puddle of transmission fluid was under the car after it was towed away.

My 2015 focus se had transmission shuttering from the first day i bought it. i was told by the dealer (paducah ford) that it was normal with the transmission in the car. after writing ford about the treatment that i received from this dealer i got a call from the dealer that they would not service my new car since i filed a complaint with ford. ford customer service then told me to start having my service done at pennyrile ford. right before 30,000 miles i took it to the dealer because the shuttering had gotten worse. the transmission was rebuilt after waiting a week for parts. now at 33,800 the transmission is shuttering again and i was told over the phone today that it will probability need to be rebuilt again. the transmissions in these cars are unsafe as i have had mine not shift into gear as is was merging onto the highway almost causing a accident. i have also had the transmission go out of gear and the engine accelerate.

Major transmission issues! warning & buyer beware: this vehicle is not safe to drive and has an open claim under the states lemon law policy. on 7/22/17 after multiple repairs as stated in this complaint, the vehicle propelled forward behind traffic on a major roadway at a railroad stop towards the gates with an oncoming train. reported the incident to ford and ford will not cover the repairs. the transmission needs to be replaced on this vehicle and has had multiple clutch replacements at ford. there have been approximately 18 service visits at the dealership since the delivery date of 12/15/15. onboard sync system- does not work properly after multiple repairs. ford service manager has warned that the transmission issues are not repairable and the issues will continue to occur despite clutch and transmission repairs.

I have already had the clutch replaced 2 times and it is still shuttering and slipping and no one will do anything about it. i had gotten a letter stating my car was on a recall but now it's not . i am a single mom with a son, i need to know that my car is safe . not sure what to do please help.

On july 13,2017,i was in stop and go traffic,i barely accelerated and my car jerked forward into a large 4x4 truck. when i financed my car in february of 2017,my car was jerking whenever i accelerated. i asked the sales man on my first test drive, and he told me it was nothing to worry about cuz it had something to do with gas economy, but he rambled it off so fast, i didn't understand what he said it was. my car is a automatic with the powershift. i feel they sold me a unsafe vehicle. could you point me in the right direction or maybe let me know if i have a claim? i also recieved a recall notice in the mail. i feel with the result of the cars jerking motion, that's what caused my accident. thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).?*jb

Vehicle hesitated/lost power upon entering 55mph highway. took to dealer, waiting on clutch. sales person had told me this vehicle had redesigned transmission. at first it performed much smoother than my 2012 ford fiesta. not now. service dept. claims new clutch is much better. there is a class action suit against ford now for "power shift" transmission.

Extreme shaking while stopping and starting to accelerate, will sometimes suddenly start to move forward at a stop with brake lightly applied, this is a known problem and has had clutches in dps6 transmission replaced twice, while at other times dealer informed repairs were not in the parameters of repair

When accelerating or driving up a hill, the vehicle stalls. the clutch was replaced once and the issue was temporarily fixed, but has started again. also has issues where the radio will make a popping noise and stops working.

Transmission surges at low speeds

Powershift dual clutch automatic transmission.. i purchased my 2015 focus a year ago with 17k miles on it. at 21k miles i had to replace the power shift dual clutch, and i am now at 33k miles and i am on my second clutch replacement due to slipping, bucking, kicking, and jerking from the transmission. ford is refusing to list this as a recall; . my car is actually getting the new clutch installed this week. i just received in the mail a class action settlement is being pursued against ford for this on going issue with these focus's. i just want to make other motorist aware if they are feeling these same things from their focus or fiesta years 2011-2016 please see about getting it checked out. it's not normal for these cars to be doing this.

Transmission slips/shutters/jerks. the automatic transmission has had problems since new. they have repaired it several times and the problem just comes back. it causes hesitation when accelerating from a stop and is dangerous to drive when it happens. ford will not repair it until the slippage is outside their threshold, but by that time it is a hazard. these cars need to be replaced.

My transmission does not shift properly ans everyone that i know that has this same type of vehicle is having the same problem. when you take off the trans doesnt shift right.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. the contact stated while driving at approximately 55 mph the vehicle shuddered with no warning lights illuminated. the contact stated that the failure was diagnosed as a transmission failure as the clutch had been replaced twice. the vehicle was diagnosed and repaired at bill macdonald ford (200 s carney dr, st clair, mi 48079). the contact stated that the failure has recurred for a third time. a diagnostic was scheduled which was still pending. the contact received an extended warranty notice from the manufacturer in september of 2019 for intermittent transmission shudder. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure was 16,320.

Transmission surges at low speeds

There has been a recall on clutch for transmission. the car bucks when you make left turns or when it is hot outside. i do not try to get on freeway unless there is no one coming because car will start to buck and i am afraid it will stall out and cause an accident. i brought the vehicle to ford and the dealer said that they will not repair it until august 2018. this is unacceptable they take my payment each month but i feel that i bought a vehicle that is a lemon. i feel that they should be made to repair the vehicle or take it back. i can not trade vehicle in for a different brand of vehicle because of recall so i am stuck with vehicle

When accelerating from a complete or almost complete stop the car jerks/ hesitates from first gear to second gear.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford focus. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle hesitated, fell out of gear, and decelerated. the vehicle performed as if it were in neutral. in addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that it took up to three attempts to start the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to herring ford (located at 820 memorial blvd, picayune, ms 39466, (601) 798-8682) where it was diagnosed that the power train control module and clutch actuator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 153,000.
