We have classified the 948 complaints from 2014 Ford Focus about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
I have had transmission issues with this vehicle since about the 10,000 mile mark. the car shutters and shakes when accelerating and looses power. it will barely pull hills and at times when driving the car will not shift into gear and the rpms have reved above 5000 and if i didn't shift into neutral i'm afraid the motor would have blown. this occurred when i was merging into traffic on the interstate and nearly caused an accident. there has been a warranty extension by you all for certain models of this vehicle but not all. i would request you guys extend the warranty to all model year ford focus as the issue seems to be the clutch.
The car was making a rattling noise when going up hills and when accelerating from a stopped position (stop-light). there was also some shaking and jerking. it was determined that it was an issue with the clutch (a class action lawsuit addressed this). the problem was remedied on 11/9/17. the car is starting to experience the same symptoms again although the rattling noise is not as loud as it was the first time. the car makes a rattling sound when going up hills, around curves, and when accelerating from a stopped position. the car was taken to the same dealership where the problem was corrected before and i was given the run around: i was told the rattling noise was "normal". i asked for the invoice to specifically state, "the rattling noise heard is normal" (in order to document what is going on), but they did not honor the request.
I bought the car used with around 28k miles. i have had to have the transmission serviced twice already, and it continues to act up intermittently. symptoms include shuddering and jerking, especially in the first two gears, unexpected acceleration in both forward and reverse (throttle input gives different results in different conditions) failure to accelerate in a many circumstances: often reverse takes a few seconds to engage, and if you need to accelerate quickly, such as to avoid an accident or hazard, too heavy of an input causes the engine to rev very high but the car doesn't go anywhere. the unit also has delayed or "sticky" downshifts, especially in an emergency stopping situation. and over the first 3 years of ownership, fuel economy seems to be decreasing. the vehicle has been exclusively serviced by ford dealers under my ownership. i understand what the transmission is, how it functions, and i drive accordingly, including trying to rev match shifts. it continues to act up mildly every day, and severely on occasion. it is both the newest and least trustworthy vehicle i've ever owned, and i expect an expensive and catastrophic failure before i've paid it off. in addition, the horn has failed several times and will now need to be replaced.
At times the car won't start, then after a few minutes it starts. cuts off while driving at any speed as if it is out of gas. cuts off on the interstate while driving at high speed or low speed. first the batter and oil light appears in red on dash when pushing the gas nothing happens and it cuts off. it stalls more and more, the fuel gage somes goes past full or fluctuates when driving. after putting gas in car it stalls more. also, as i pull off after stopped or initially, the car hesitates and skips and the tires skip when until it gets past 15 -20 miles then the transmission is steady when it's not salling.. when it rains the passenger side floor and roof leaks water constantly when i am driving in water the passenger side floor gets wet. when it rains and the car is parked water leaks and the passenger roof is wet from front to back as well as about 2 inches of water on the passenger front and back on the floor.
When starting from a stopped mode the car jerks through 1st and 2nd gears. when accelerating quickly it is hard to control the car. took to dealer (max ford harrisonville, mo) and he said it was the electric clutch. the 2012 and 2013 had a campaign with an extended warranty of 7 years or 100k miles to replace the clutch. he did not know why my 2014 was not covered since it is the same engine and clutch. my car has 67k miles so is out of the basic warranty. i called ford and they could not give a reason as to why it was not covered. short of spending 1500 dollars to have clutch replaced i am stuck. i was told by dealer this would only be a temporary fix anyway because the clutch only lasts about 30k miles.
I noticed that my ford focus automatic was driving hesitantly/ shuddering/ delayed gear shifting, the same set of problems for which my car got a recall repair 13 mos. ago in which the clutch and seals were replaced. i took my vehicle in to the dealership service dept. where they discovered the same replacements need to be done again. cost quote: $1500. they claim it's not covered by the recall and not under extended warranty.
Studdering and shuttering of shifting gears. skips like transmissison is slipping
Transmission slips when driving, jerking/jolting occur when i accelerate ( just reacts slow in responding as attempting to accelerate), difficult to put it into reverse at times it is jolty. this is a ongoing problem for the time i have owned the 2014 ford focus
5 speed manual transmission, loss of power at 3k rpm in all gears. this occured on the highway at 60 mph, speed slowly decreased to 45 mph and i was able to exit the highway safely. no check engine lights or warnings. called dealership and they suggested using a fuel injection cleaner.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving various speeds, the vehicle jerked and the clutch failed to shift out of gear. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to anderson ford (124 s sangamon ave, gibson city, il 60936, phone number: (217) 784-4119) where it was diagnosed that the clutch failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred three times. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 16,481.
Vehicle has an automatic transition but does not transition from one gear to the next properly. when accelerating from a stop, the vehicle jerks before the transmission switches gears. the "clutch" has been replaced by the dealership one already as "defective". this was approximately a year and a half ago. now the problem is happening again. vehicle is at dealership having the exact same repair done. major devalue to vehicle and concerned this will just happen again since the car is less than 3 years old and is already having the third clutch installed (including original).
Transmission slips while driving
Excess clutch shudder during acceleration in lower gears. causes vehicle to accelerate unpredictably which could cause traffic accidents. ford replaced the clutch a few times. but won't do it again. they say tsb 15-0120 was superseded and no longer applies to my vehicle. this problem is getting worse over time. vehicle is at 89,354 miles over two and a half years and is driven carefully and safely, and should not have needed so many clutches in such a short time.
Dual clutch and electrical wiring harness shifted transmission in drive when i was in park resulting the car wrecking into my garage. canister purge valve stuck open resulting in low fuel pressure causing the vehicle to stall when driving on the highway. several occasions the car gave me inaccurate gas mileage miles to empty causing me to become stranded.transmission shutter when the vehicle is off but you open a door or turn on a light. trunk came open while i was in the car wash. another ncident almost causing me to wreck when i wss braking the car accelerated. death trap!
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle hesitated and jerked without warning. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to western avenue nissan (7410 s western ave, chicago, il 60636) from where it was purchased. the contact was informed that the transmission malfunctioned and needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was taken to metro ford sales and service (6455 s western ave, chicago, il 60636 (773) 776-7600) where the contact was informed to call the manufacturer. the contact stated that the vehicle was serviced on july 28, 2016 per tsb number: 15b22 (transmission control module reprogramming for overty tcm failure warning- 2011-2015 ford fiesta and 2012-2014 ford focus) at fox ford lincoln (2501 n elston ave, chicago, il 60647 (888) 380-8568). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 78,800.
Transmission chatters and shudders, and does not shift in correct rpm range (according to dealership test). ps6 clutch replacement necessary for second time on 2014 ford focus. first replacement after 55k miles. second replacement after another 35k miles (total mileage on car 90k). since clutch failure is common on 2014 ford focus, need ford warranty extended to cover this expense. (ford dealership price to replace the clutch is $1341 for 9 hours of labor plus $463 for clutch and $71 for the seal assembly oil.) clutch replacement is due to mechanical design; not due to normal wear and tear, not due to operator.
The is a serious issue with this vehicle. it st-udders badly as you accelerate. however, upon bringing this into the ford store in pueblo they are using some bullshit excuse saying that this is a 14m01 and therefore not covered as the 14m02 is. they are shysters and they don't want to cover their faulty product. this is a safety issue and should be resolved. the poor lady that bought this care from us carpros in pueblo colorado is the victim here. who can we contact to resolve this issue. ford conveniently doesn't give you a number to hq. we don't really know where to go with this issue other than to you guys. ford needs to handle this! this car reacts this way as soon as you hit the gas. it seems to be a very common issue with this model and year of ford focus and ford in pueblo, co at least is trying to duck it.
My car has had mulitple issues in the past 2 years with over 7 visits pertaining to the transmission . from the beginning its had problems with stuttering and hesitating on acceleration.i'm currently without my car for the 5th time thia year due to problems which have been taken car of by warranty but is still coating me money due to rentals .
2014 ford focus. consumer writes in regards to bad clutch on vehicle. *ld the consumer stated the dealer declined to complete the repair. the dealer advised the clutch was out of warranty. *js *cn *js
The vehicle was purchased new and the problem with the clutch (which has been replaced twice) begin to occur shortly after the purchase. while driving on the highway or on main roads with a stop light the car would jerk when i would begin to excel. this problem was noted every time i took my car in for an oil change. i was then notified that there was a recall on the part. the part was then replaced once the back order shipment came in. the module was eventually updated because my concern with the jerking continued. in july, my car began to hesitate while driving and then completely cut off while in reverse. the car was then towed to the dealership and the module was replaced. today as i write this notification the problem with the hesitation while the car is placed in reverse has begun again. i am very unhappy with the car and was told that i was $10,000 upside down on the car if i traded it in. i do not trust driving the car and daily my commute to work is over 65 miles on the highway.
While driving down the road at 30 mph my vehicle stalled and lost complete power. i was nearly involved in an accident, but fortunately the alert drivers around me were able to brake in time. a friendly samaritan helped to push my vehicle to the side of the road. thankfully i was physically okay, but emotionally not so much. i purchased a brand new 2014 ford focus off of the lot and have since had nothing but issues. i'm still paying on the vehicle today and now it is not in use unless i can come up with 2,500.00 to repair the entire fuel system. this system should not have failed at only 67,000 miles. there is an issued recall on similar ford vehicles manufactured from 2013-2015 which is the same time frame in which my vehicle was manufactured. after repeated attempts to come to a resolution through ford customer service, they won't even offer information on the type of fuel system used on the vehicles with the recall because they don't want to be liable for this defect. i'm out of a vehicle at 67,000 miles and have no consumer protection. it's scary to read about the 100's of people who experienced the exact same fuel system malfunction at similar mileage. this is a serious safety issue that ford needs to address immediately. in addition, since i have had the vehicle the transmission has been jerky and i can't even accelerate onto a highway. ford had vehemently denied that it was anything wrong with the manufacturer transmission and yet since they have issued a recall on the transmission, but now tell me i'm too far past my warranty(which was only 7,000 miles ago) i'm heartbroken because i don't have the money to repair this sort of system, especially knowing it is a defect on their part.
Received a warning on the freeway to pull over when safe. when slowing to a stop the vehicle lost all power and had to be pushed off of the freeway. a power cycle of the car restored power.
This vehicle shutters on acceleration from a stop so bad you have to hold on to the steering wheel tightly. has already had the clutch replaced. this occurs every time the vehicle is at a stop. i marked the date as august 18th,but it happens every day.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle was shaking violently. an unknown warning light was illuminated. the contact slowed down but was able to coast to the side of the road. the vehicle was taken to capital ford services dealer (2805 e millbrook rd, raleigh, nc 27604, (877) 660-1721), where diagnostic testing determined that the failure was the clutch seal was leaking and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. in addition, the contact also stated that while driving, the fuel gauge failed to provide the accurate reading causing the contact to run out of fuel. the contact also stated that when the vehicle was idling it would stall. in addition, the vehicle would accelerate and decelerate independently. the vehicle was taken to r d sawyer motor co dealer (404 is-64, manteo, nc 27954, (252) 473-2141) where it was advised to keep the tank half full. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number: 17794117. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
The clutches in the ford automatic 6-speed power shift transmission fail within a year timeframe. currently on my third set of clutches. a recall extending the warranty on these clutches was issued for the same transmission used between 8-1-10 and 6-5-13. my car was build on 12-8-13 and does not have the extended coverage but certainly has the same problem. clutches fail within a year and exhibit a chattering jerking condition. ford will not extend the warranty on my vehicle. i filed a complaint #cas-12870770-q5t9f0 with ford customer service.
I was driving my 2014 ford focus came to a light to make a right turn, came to a stop, then proceeded to turn when car hesitate to drive when i pressed on the gas, it was like the car had shut down, engine like was flashing, but was able to coast to a area where i was safe . turned ignition off then tried to restart, car would not start .
For the second time now, my transmission is jerking, stuttering, and hesitating, with the addition of it completely not going into drive at all this time, and the check engine light came on. this issue has been known by ford for a very long time, and you at the nhtsa have been informed as well. the dealership supposedly fixed this once, and i have that paperwork, but like thousands of other consumers who are having this issue and had it supposedly fixed, it has returned! why are you waiting until this actually kills someone, before you do anything? my fiance was at an onramp entrance that was right at the gas station when this happened this time and because it wouldn't even switch to drive, he was almost rear ended. someone is going to get hurt or killed with this transmission. it effects people in various ways, at various times, has caused some people to receive tickets because it refused to decelerate in school zones, which could have killed children, it stutters upon acceleration and then jerks into speed, it doesn't go into gear at times, it isn't shifting properly, and all kinds of stuff. and even when the dealership "fixes" it, it is a temporary fix and it goes back into the same issue within 40,000 miles. this is a very serious and dangerous issue that isn't being taken seriously enough! it is very well known by ford, as when i took it to dealership for this the first time, the guy (i have all his info and paperwork) informed me that just at that dealership alone, they do about three of those trans issues per day. all they do is " see history for sop. installed bv6z 7b546 f: clutch asy. verified concern. check oasis. found tsb 15-0120. reprogrammed pcm and tcm. cleared codes....removed and replaced transmission and new clutch...reprogrammed...etc.." which is only a temporary fix and they know it. everyone has to bring back over and over! someone will die!!
When driving at low speeds transmission shimmers and there is hesitaion. also when staring off from a stop the car is slow at accelerating. windshield wipers when set to low or high only run for a few minutes then switch to intermittent. i was almost in an accident today telraveling at 50 mph because the windshield wiper issue in a bad storm wipers stopped and went to intermittent. the power train issue started in 2015.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving low speeds, the vehicle jerked without warning. when the vehicle was in third gear, it drove normally. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (jerry duncan ford, 801 n roane st, harriman, tn 37748) where it was diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the issue and opened case number: cas 13448915. the failure mileage was 83,000.
Car transmission jerks, sputters, accelerates and stalls. in addition now having issues with fuel tank not guaging and now it hesitates, stalls out and is not safe. car suddenly stopped running had to be towed to the shop and shop advised the fuel tank guage was not operating and registering gas. now i am going to have to take it back to the shop as it appears it may involve fuel tank, fuel pump and vapor management. i only know this is because searching on line i see many simiilar complaints about the jerking transmission problems, and problems with the vehicle stalling out. it says ford is not acknowleding this as a problem. i believe they need to recall this and fix this although it appears based on reviews even after repeated attempts to fix it is still not resolved. many customers have had to pay thousands of dollars. this vehicle is not safe to drive and is in a class action lawsuit.
Transmission went out while on a road trip. went to start the car and transmission issue alert came on the dash. i drove about a mile then could no longer accelerate and had to pull over. i could reverse but no acceleration in drive. got it towed and the mechanic at the ford dealership told me it was an issue with the transmission computer. it was covered under the manufacturer warranty but i'm still having issue with clutch slipping when accelerating from a stop. causes jerking of the car sometimes and loud grinding noises.
There is a problem with my tmc which controls my clutch. the tmc had to be recalibrate a year and a half ago and a new clutch need to to be installed. when there is an issue the car "shudders", loses speed, has trouble merging into traffic or taking turns. again my car felt the same way. apparently this time there is nothing wrong with the tmc, but the clutch needs to be replaced again, just about 18 months later. to have my clutch replaced twice within three years seems absurd. even the dealership notes that the clutch package put in my car the first time had known issues and weren't that great. this is a safety concern for myself and others on the road. i'd hope ford or someone looks further into this. there seems to be a class action law suit in the works, but i at least wanted to voice my safety concerns. kindest regards
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle began to switch gears independently. the contact was able to drive the vehicle home. the vehicle was then taken to livermore ford lincoln (2266 kitty hawk rd, livermore, ca 94551) where it was diagnosed that the clutch needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the same dealer was contacted a second time and informed the contact that the clutch failed again and needed to be repaired. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that they could offer him a small compensation. if the contact accepted, the manufacturer would no longer be responsible for anything the contact may experience due to the failure. the contact declined the offer. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 3,400.
The transmission clutch shudders during light acceleration causing hesitation when at stop light or stop sign. on several occasions, when at a stop, i was almost rear-ended due to delay in acceleration. it feels like i am in 3rd gear when trying to accelerate at a stop light/sign.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle did not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the contact called the manufacturer and was advised to bring the vehicle to the dealer (peacock ford in maitland, florida) for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was diagnosed as having clutch failure. the vehicle was repaired. the contact stated that the failure recurred four other times and the vehicle was taken to sun state ford in orlando, florida. the clutch was replaced again, but the failure recurred. the approximate failure mileage was 29,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. when the contact depressed the accelerator pedal, the transmission would become stuck in between gears, which caused the vehicle not to accelerate. the vehicle was taken to harris ford lincoln (20006 64th ave w, lynwood, wa 98036) where it was diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. the contact stated that the clutch had previously been replaced three times. the manufacturer was also contacted and did not assist. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 85,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while attempting to accelerate from a traffic light, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle lunged forward and stalled. the contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated. an independent mechanic was able to reset the check engine indicator and the vehicle operated for several days before the failure recurred. the vehicle was towed to upper marlboro ford (located at 5701 crain highway, upper marlboro, md 20772, tel: (301) 627-5600). the contact was informed that the transmission control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure on several occasions. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

Car badly stutters, makes it hard to take off at lights. very dangerous at intersections. sometimes can feel like the car is powering out. very rough when switching gears. you can even hear a grinding sound and great vibrations of the car. some days you don't feel safe driving it.
Trans mission shudders and fells like it slip and starts to roll backwards when on a hill.also does not accerate
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph and when the vehicle needed to switch gears, it failed to down shift. the contact attempted to reverse the vehicle to avoid being in traffic however the reverse function failed as well. the contact had the vehicle towed to the koons silver spring ford dealer who diagnosed that the transmission and clutch failed and needed to be replaced. the dealer informed the contact that the clutch had previously replaced on june 10, 2015. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the repair was previously provided due to the customer satisfaction warranty which had since expired. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving at any speed, the vehicle hesitated and vibrated without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (tristar ford in blairsville, pa) where an unknown recall repair was performed. the failure recurred several times after approximately three months. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and stated that there was no recall available. the failure was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 49,000. updated 11/02/17*lj *tr
When trying to drive up a steep city street, the engine lugged down and almost died several times before reaching the top of the hill. i would release and step on the gas pedal and it would rev up a little, but then the power would drop off again almost died each time. i took the vehicle into the dealer for service under warranty and they were able to fix it. the transmission was not shifting down under load as it should have. it now appears to be working properly. if the engine had quit, power steering and brakes would have been lost and if that had happened i may have rolled back down the hill, through a barricade and onto the freeway about 30 feet below. thank god that did not happen.
Ford focus will lose power on the highway. ford told me that's how the car is and that the clutch on the focus and fiesta are faulty from the factory. the car is a 2014 with 62,000 miles.
2014 ford focus. consumer writes in regards to transmission problems. *ld the consumer stated after accelerating from a stop the would violently shutter. the vehicle was repaired twice at no charge to the consumer. it was advised that the failure was due to a rotating transmission. also, the parts for the door latch recall repair were not available. updated 06/20/2017 *js
Transmission: while driving the vehicle the transmission in some cases will shift very rapidly giving the vehicle no acceleration power. the vehicle feels sluggish and vibrates. also, while driving over speed humps or through an intersection in almost every instance the vehicle starts to vibrate after going over the speed hump or through the intersection. fuel pump: while driving the car the car lost all power while driving in las cruces, new mexico. the car did not stall completely however when depressing the accelerator the car would just now increase in rpm's. i took the car into a mechanics shop and they were not able to duplicate problem. i drive the car for another year and this time the car again started to sputter. it turned out to be the fuel pump.
If i am stopped at a light or stop sign on an incline, and i take my foot off the break, the car will roll back until i am on level ground; all while the car is in drive. i have taken it to the dealer twice and each time they say that it is just the way this model is and they can not do anything about it. i am concerned about my safety and the safety of others because i may take my foot off the break and before i can apply gas i may roll into the car behind me.
The car shudders and shakes while driving! the vehicle stalls when pulling out into traffic or at yeild signs on any type of road.when stopped at red lights or stop signs and trying to start off car shudders and shakes so bad it may take a few minutes for the car to actually go again. the worst aspect is when trying to pull out into traffic of expressways or local roads and the car stalls!
When accelerating or going up hill, the car does not shift correctly and causes the car to shutter. my car is at 71,000 miles right now, and this part was already replaced in january, 2015 and again in september, 2016 and needs to be replaced again.
