Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2014 Ford Focus

Takata recall amongst the known recalls, is a lot of unsaid issues with this vehicle. it started with the tcm. when i had the dealer fix it, the codes were showing ok but the vehicle continued to display the same issues when trying to accelerate. for some reason when driving, it seems as if i'm driving a manual vehicle instead of a automatic. the clutch is giving me problems. it tend to get stuck in the hill assist mode. a few weeks ago my car just died. it seemed to be the battery. when replaced it was ok for a day or so. i had it checked to see if my alternator was bad. it both places stayed it was fine. periodically it would stop. it didn't seem like there where any determining factors on when (like cold or hot weather). so i drove it less. one day when driving, going 46 mph, it just shut down. the screen showed 'not in park', starting system fault and it would not allow me to place the vehicle in neutral. it then began to start and stop whenever. the grounds were checked, the starter, the alternator, the fuse and orhers. my horn would sometimes go out for days, up to weeks. when trying to start the car, it would eventually flash 'normal mode'. it's so many things going on here! i fear all the time with this car. when the tcm started acting up, it stopped while driving too. i'm a mother of 5, i've has this car for 4 years as for the past 2yrs i've been living in fear of my children and i dying in this car. i've spent more money buying rentals and having others assist with transportation when this car acts up, i could've paid half of my last 2yrs off. this is not fair because everyone doesn't have the ability to just get up a go trade in a car or walk away. i've been having different problems for over 2 yrs now but when it shut off while driving on the highway, it was in the beginning of september 2018 (this month) it got worst and i had it towed to the dealer.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that there were multiple failures progressing without warning. the vehicle lost power and began to stall. in addition, the fuel gauge was not displaying the correct fuel amount. woody anderson ford (2500 jordan ln nw, huntsville, al 35810, (877) 315-0514) replaced the clutch assembly, but the vehicle continued to stall. the vehicle was also taken to more than one independent mechanic for diagnostic testing, but was not repaired. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline), but it was unsure if the failures were related. the part for the recall repair was not available. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.

Takata recall there no sound for the radio the dash board for the radio is blank before it went blank it was making a lot of noisy

My car would stall when i was turning or driving, but at first i could turn it off and back on and it would run just fine. then my car started showing me that i had a full tank of gas when i didn't. i found out that the issue is the gas tank, a $450 fix. these plastic gas tanks are collapsing on itself, my friend had a 2012 focus and was told that the gas tank was shrinking and that it would keep shrinking until the gas tank was almost completely gone. this needs to be a recall!!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the check engine indicator kept randomly flashing. crown ford (256 swain st, fayetteville, nc 28303, (910) 920-9614) was notified of the failure several times, but was unable to determine a permanent remedy to repair the vehicle after it had been back and forth to the dealer more than three times. the vehicle shuttered and shook abnormally. while driving approximately 65 mph, the speed decelerated to 0 and the contact quickly maneuvered the vehicle to prevent a crash. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but the contact was uncertain if the manufacturer had a permanent remedy. in addition, the diagnostic trouble codes flickered when checked by an independent mechanic. the approximate failure mileage was 65,574.

Radio, has developed cracking, popping, feedback, both when the car is on and when it's not. hot operation. unservicable

Takata inflators. this car was unsafe to drive, when you get to a red light, the car jerked you ,when you place your feet on the brakes. then when you press the accelerator to go it jerk back and pulled you forward. changing geers would hard to shift and sometimes stick. the engine light would come on, the car was taken to ford dealership 3 times and tested, they never fixed the problem. i almost crased at the stop sign trying to stop, the brakes got stuck. i had the car for one month, and filled a lemmon law complaint on line, and they insisted i had to wait a period of time, because i just purchased the car. after the 3rd, time visting the ford repair shop, in one month time, i was disappointed and where i bought the car from at a kia dealership, they would not give me my money back , only offered to trade the ford focus in back to them and buy a kia car from them, i loss my down payment, and got stuck with a roll over fee of 4,500 from the remaining balance of the ford fusion added on to the new kia. and a higher car payment. they sold e a lemon, and had a warranty and still refuse to fix the car. the transmission was bad and they sold the ford to the auction to get it off their hands. i was stalled for 30 days believing they would fix the car, the lemon law couldn't help me after i faxed all the papers to them. the ford focus was on the recall list, and i don't have the car now, is there anyway i can get credited for the $4.500 in a law suit for buying the ford under warranty and they refuse to fix the car right.

Recall received on door latches. however when calling dealer to schedule no return call only solicitation calls on warranty. trunk used to open 1 push of button now trunk will not open however when in reverse trunk chime comes on saying trunk is open. when taking off from a stopped position vehicle starts to go then completely loses power happens after clutch is completely released in motion just falls on its face then immediately comes out of it infrequent but dangerous eveident since new.. traction control is accessed through radio. radio stopped working 22000. some doors do not all unlock infrequently. wiper infrequently stop working and park in middle of winshield

Door ajar warning appears for front passenger door even when door is correctly closed. leads to a cascade of other issues, biggest safety issue would be doors may all refuse to lock at various times. also runs various lights after parking vehicle, might affect battery charge. i believe the door closed sensor is failing, this is the lock mechanism that was replaced in an earlier recall. problem began about a month ago, at around 33,000 miles. my door latches were replaced in december 2017 at 21,000 miles.

Vehicle transmission will not shift promptly, rpm's rev over 3 to 4 rpm's before shifting casing jerking, shuddering, jolt car backwards coming to a slow and steady stop. red warning lights on dash console indicating emergency problem & unsafe to drive.

Hello, today i got into an accident. i hydroplaned and went into a guide rail on the interstate going about 50mph. my friend and i are having major problems with our backs and necks and my airbags didn't deploy. this isn't the first time i've gotten into accident and they didn't deploy. the first time wasn't life threatening but this one was. i don't have any recollection of the accident and i am not able to remember much of yesterday either. i feel like there was something wrong with my vehicle before my accident due to my passenger air bag light kept flickering on and off before the accident and now this happening. please contact me back on my course of action on what i should take. thanks, sincerely [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Some 2011-2016 fiesta and 2012-2016 focus vehicles equipped with a dps6 transmission may exhibit intermittent concerns of loss of transmission engagement while driving, intermittent no syart or loss of power. these symptoms are usually accompanied by an illuminated check engine lamp. additionally, symptoms may include messages in the message center indicating hill start assist is not available, that parking aid malfunction/ service is required or the transmission prndl/s gear selector on the instrument cluster may flash. diagnostic trouble codes dtcs u0100, u0101, u1013 and/or p0606 will be present or stored in the powrttrain control module (pcm). i turned on car from walmart parking lot. a message appeared on saying transmission fault service now and check engine lamp came on. as i drove back home the car pulls back as i stop at a traffic light. took it to carmax and they said to take it a place to check transmission. baumann complete auto repair center said that the car needs to be completely reprogrammed. tsb 16-0129.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle shuddered when the accelerator pedal was depressed. also, the fuel gauge failed to display the correct fuel level. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact called lafontaine ford of birch run (11661 n beyer rd, birch run, mi 48415, (989) 652-6157) and was informed to have the vehicle diagnosed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 108,980.

Horn frequently goes intermittent for weeks at a time, this occurs while driving in both city and highway conditions and when the vehicle is parked. this has caused numerous near collisions as i am unable to make other vehicles aware of a situation as they try to merge in my lane. replacement of the horn assembly has not resolved the issue, and testing by the dealer has numerous fault codes when the horn does fail indicating a short. tpms sensor fault has now recently come on when actuating the horn and dealer is still trying to isolate the cause of this new issue.

My 2014 ford focus has had a myriad of problems from day one. first the trunk will pop open if driving more than 40 mph. my trunk popped open and i lost a 3,000 saxophone. the michigan state police has proof of my claim. now trunk will not release. constant transmission problems even with repairs, the car will lag, sputter and rolls backwards. the car will roll backwards when you stop for a red light or sputter when entering a roundabout.the gas guard will say you have 50 gallons but change to 11 after driving 2 miles. bluetooth and horn does not work.

While driving at 35 mph, the engine stalled without warning & would not restart. dash displayed "engine fault, service soon." had vehicle towed to local dealership. dealer checked the codes and found multiple engine controller faults. said it was a bad wiring harness. this is a se model with 2.0 l engine, but ford has a recall on the st model with 2.0l engine for the same failure mode and cause (wiring harness). ford did "participate" in the repair ($250 out of $1500) wiring harness was retained by owner for review and analysis..

Tl* the contact owned a 2014 ford focus. while exiting the highway approaching an exit ramp, the vehicle stalled. the instrument panel cluster went completely blank and there was a sudden loss of power. the brakes were difficult to apply and the contact crossed over four lanes of traffic and struck a median. none of the air bags deployed. the vehicle was not inspected and diagnosed by a dealer. the vehicle was towed to a yard and deemed destroyed due to the failures. a police report was not filed. the driver sustained minor bruising that did not require medical attention. the manufacturer was notified of the crash after it happened. the vin and failure mileage were not available.

Extreme stalling problems driving on freeway and going on inclines. car has heavy jerking at stop and go speeds. transmission light came on asking to pull over and wait 6 minutes for overheating. 3 times in less than a year car has been to the shop

Late in the month of february 2018 i came out to my car on a rainy friday and when i turned on my vehicle the windshield wipers began to operate erratically and persistently with no ability to control them as the driver. the problem continued for over a week and the wipers would operate unpredictably and even when the car was fully shut off including the ignition power. this is a serious hazard caused by a known faulty part on this model of car that is susceptible to shorting out.

The horn quit sounding upon activation by the horn relay switch on the steering wheel. it does not sound when pressing the remote twice to confirm it's locked up. it does not sound when the alarm is activated. the fuse is ok. the horn relay does not click when horn relay switch on steering wheel is depressed. the wires are all intact and connected. i took it to a ford dealer. they said it would cost $200-300 and need the car for 2 days. according to all the complaints and concerns about this issue on various websites, thousands of owners of ford focus have the same issue with the same response from the dealership.

Driving my 2014 focus engine shut down ,pulled over to the shoulder of road in snow storm ,all most hit by tractor /trailer ,this was on i- 376 in pa ,after few minutes car started then stalled again , then car started and was able to continue on

When pressing on the gas vehicle hesitates before jerking forward. when placing the vehicle from park to reverse, vehicle will not engage/move in reverse. constant problems with vehicle while trying to begin driving or while trying to operate basic functions on a daily basis. this needs to be added to the extended warranty/recall for the transmission.

I started my vehicle after i dropped my 3 month old off at daycare, it was parked and my dashboard was flashing "transmission fault- service now". i pulled out of my space and parked the car to restart , to see if maybe the computer just needed to be restarted. at this point the dashboard computer was going black and then trying to turn on and going blue. the speedometer stopped working, i lost all power steering. i drove it home and parked it.

The tcm in the car the recall that ford has on this vehicle

My 2014 ford focus transmission gets hot and is not changing gear while driving after i got it from the ford dealer service center in ga 01/2018. it won't start because the transmission gets hot so i have to let it cool down before i can crank it. it cuts off while i'm driving. i have bought a front and rear dash cam to record and upload live video and an additional cam to for dashboard to show the red (i) light and engine light that remains on while i'm driving. i had a new battery, tcm module, clutch and clutch motor put on 12/2017, but i can't drive the car, it won't back up hills, it looses speed, don't change gears, again, i just got it out the shop!!! i have to drive it because it is the only transportation i have, so i am videoing every trip in case the whilethe car is jumping gear or transmission gets hot and car turn off while i'm driving , i can have an accurate account of an accident due to the transmission issue i am having with. i hope that the overheating doesn't cause a fire, but, if that happens,it would be recorded on my dashcam and i will post in social media.

2014 ford focus has a defective horn and does not sound, only clicks and lights flash, when pressing the key fob or the steering wheel. a 2012 focus driven by a family member has the same problem. i could not warn another car that he was drifting into my lane and he almost hit my car. there should be a recall and ford should fix the defective focus horns that a lot of people are having problems with.

Tl-the contact owns a 2014 ford focus ---- purchased vehicle used from dealership in wisconsin --- vehicle was almost in accident last week--- contact had to swerve to another lane to avoid driver in another lane hitting her vehicle --- contact tried to honk horn and horn was not working horn corroded due to having assembly too close to front wheel well--- vehicle was brought to local ford dealership and contact had to pay to get horn wiring replaced--- dealership stated no recall on vehicle ----- horn assembly was also replaced by contact due to wiring being corroded ---- 0 recalls associated with this vin.... cb

I have had absolutely nothing but problems with this car. haven't been able to drive it for two years because it's problem after problem. first the transmission went out and we spent 3000 to fix it just for it to get home and start knocking in the engine. now the car won't even turn over or even turn on. i've heard of so many recalls on this car and it's extremely unsafe and i'm too scared to even take it back in to fix it further because i do not feel safe driving this car. i've contacted ford multiple times with absolutely no help. no one should buy this car at all.

I recently brought my 2014 focus in to the dealer, because the trunk would not open. according to the ford dealer, this is a known issue, and the wiring needed to be replaced. although i paid the whopping $421.30 for the repair, including a $120 diagnostic fee, i feel that ford should take responsibility since this is a known issue unrelated to normal wear and tear on a vehicle and issue a recall.

Whenever i take off from stopping the car acts like it's trying to catch up with the engine and gears. this happens almost every time i accelerate after coming to a stop.

I bought the car used with around 28k miles. i have had to have the transmission serviced twice already, and it continues to act up intermittently. symptoms include shuddering and jerking, especially in the first two gears, unexpected acceleration in both forward and reverse (throttle input gives different results in different conditions) failure to accelerate in a many circumstances: often reverse takes a few seconds to engage, and if you need to accelerate quickly, such as to avoid an accident or hazard, too heavy of an input causes the engine to rev very high but the car doesn't go anywhere. the unit also has delayed or "sticky" downshifts, especially in an emergency stopping situation. and over the first 3 years of ownership, fuel economy seems to be decreasing. the vehicle has been exclusively serviced by ford dealers under my ownership. i understand what the transmission is, how it functions, and i drive accordingly, including trying to rev match shifts. it continues to act up mildly every day, and severely on occasion. it is both the newest and least trustworthy vehicle i've ever owned, and i expect an expensive and catastrophic failure before i've paid it off. in addition, the horn has failed several times and will now need to be replaced.

Studdering and shuttering of shifting gears. skips like transmissison is slipping

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving approximately 55 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to ridenour auto group (500 w broadway st, new lexington, oh 43764, phone number: (740) 342-5146) where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Dual clutch and electrical wiring harness shifted transmission in drive when i was in park resulting the car wrecking into my garage. canister purge valve stuck open resulting in low fuel pressure causing the vehicle to stall when driving on the highway. several occasions the car gave me inaccurate gas mileage miles to empty causing me to become stranded.transmission shutter when the vehicle is off but you open a door or turn on a light. trunk came open while i was in the car wash. another ncident almost causing me to wreck when i wss braking the car accelerated. death trap!

My car has had mulitple issues in the past 2 years with over 7 visits pertaining to the transmission . from the beginning its had problems with stuttering and hesitating on acceleration.i'm currently without my car for the 5th time thia year due to problems which have been taken car of by warranty but is still coating me money due to rentals .

Ford focus is highly vulnerable to electric defects in which indicators appear for a long period of time after being attained to, brake tends to slip unexpectedly, bluetooth has stopped working, usb ports, brake lamp faults. my main concern for other drivers and my self is the vulnerability to sharp turn and the crucial acceleration delays. these problems were attained to and maintained by ford multiple times, problems occur within 1-2weeks after maintenance. i'm concerned even more about the performance and shaking at high speed as well that hasn't been revised.

tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle stalled. the contact stated that the instrument cluster displayed a transmission fault code. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after approximately fifteen minutes. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were contacted or notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 65,200.

The radio shorts out and makes very loud popping noises. will happen even if the radio is off or the volume is at 0. this happens in any state as long as the car is on. it is seemingly random in occurrence. it has happened while parked, city driving, highway driving.

June 1, 2017: i took my 2014 ford focus st, with ~10,500k miles only 4 months out of warranty, to a dealership for an oil change and warranty recalls. june 2, 2017: the dealership informed me that while reprogramming the bcm, body control module, the computer was wiped and the car would not start. the dealership said they attempted to reprogram it again but did not work but that they had opened a ticket with ford's technical support. the dealership provided a loaner car to me for the weekend. june 6, 2017: the dealership called to tell me they still had not received a fix from ford and that ford knew of the issue and had replied that they would provide an update within 7 business days. i was told to keep the loaner car until the work was complete. i called ford's service line to attempt to escalate the issue. i was provided the case number, as referenced, and told to talk to the dealership's service manager. the service manager told me that unfortunately there was nothing his technicians could do but to wait for a fix from ford. june 15, 2017: i contacted ford service line again and the case was escalated to a regional manager. they informed me that ford does not have a fix and that ford has no timeline for a fix. the vehicle is still non-functional. ford has told me they have no fix and no timeline for a fix. the dealership is waiting on ford to provide a fix as it's a computer issue and the dealership cannot do anything to solve it.

On may 6, 2017 while driving on the highway at approximately 55-60 miles per hour, the engine suddenly propulsion, and effectively stalled. the check engine light came on simultaneously. (it was not on before). the vehicle slowly lost power. i was able to get it off the highway and safely into a parking lot. i had it towed to a nearby firestone, which ran a diagnostic which revealed that a portion of the engine was defective and has resulted in splicing of wires, which needed to be replaced. i was informed that there is a technical service bulletin, #14-0215 but that for is refusing to pay for the repairs even though the vehicle still is under powertrain warranty. the vehicle seized and effectively stalled on the highway without warning, and i'm lucky that no one was harmed. see attached invoice for repair information.

Break light on dash said break light fails all break lihts on when pushing break pedel my wife checked it light came on and warring transmishin running hot tap breaks back trunk lach on the back everytime i hit a bumb the light comes on the dash and today when i was backing up all thje indercater light went out on dash .it was in the shop on 3/28/2017

My vehicle had been brought in for transmission issues before for slipping, and delay when the gas is depressed. since the repair i've noticed the car's transmission while put in reverse will feel like it slips into neutral. it happened while i was backing into my parking spot in my apartment complex. the transmission is also very jerky when accelerating on an incline and will start to roll backwards. this was also a problem prior to the initial repair so i don't know if this is signifying the return of the problem. in addition to the transmission problem the controls on the steering wheel are also non-responsive or will control something other than what it is supposed to be for (ex: volume + and - change the radio station or end a call). in addition to this, the sync system will either not connect to the phone via bluetooth occasionally or it will not be able to recognize the device. keep in mind that the phone connecting is a galaxy s7, so i know it is compatible. the electrical problems have been on going and were addressed in the initial transmission repairs but they were not resolved. the second transmission issue occurred again on the annotated date.

Five times this car has completely stop at 60mph driving on major highway 494 minneapolis,mn. stalled 5 times. this car has almost killed me 5 times. its been serviced 5 times with no resolution. i want my money back or a new car that wont kill me. every time its serviced the dealership charges me a fee.

The 2014 ford focus only has one door lock/unlock button which is located on the front middle panel near the radio controls. there are no manual lock/unlock mechanisms on any of the doors - if a crash occured, how would anyone in the back seat be able to get out if the driver is unable to push the button for them? that seems like an unsafe decision for a vehicle made for multiple passengers. second, occasionally while driving in rainy weather, i have switched the wipers on to find that they hesitate for a few seconds before finally wiping the windshield. this does not happen every time, but i expect them to move when i turn them on, not a few seconds later. in the rain, a few seconds of non-visibility can be dangerous- even more so if it happens at night the next time. are these electrical issues? could the unlock feature be an electrical if for any reason the battery goes or hits water?
