Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2014 Ford Focus

Engine continues to run after engine is shut off after parked for minutes or hours even with the key removed from the ignition. once vehicle does shut off the battery (brand new) will completely drain overnight. unknown...but ford did have a recall for this issue for over 433,000 vehicles but not this specific year model.

For at least the last three years the vehicle experienced short periods of non-starting. in october, 2019 the car would not start period. previous it was able to start after moving the shifter from park to drive and back and sometime using the remote start. the october issue required towing to north county ford in vista, ca. after five days, it was determined the transmission had failed and needed repalcement. after replacement the non-starting issue resolved, but in the last three weeks it has returned. i have not had any issues while the vehicle is moving.

My 16 year old daughter was driving in her 2014 ford focus se on the interstate. i was a passenger as she only has her learners permit. all the sudden she complained the vehicle was hard to steer. i saw her having a physically hard time steering the vehicle. i looked at the dashboard and saw the power steering assist failure indicator icon (electronic power assist steering - epas)activated on the dashboard. my daughter continued to struggle to maintain the vehicle safely due to the power steering issue. she drove to the nearest exit which was even worse than the highway. she had trouble steering through the "s" turns on the exit ramp. she came to the intersection, luckily the light was green and she didn't have to stop to turn right, but it wasn't much help. while turning onto another two lane highway she almost hit the concrete medium due to the epas failure. watching her drive the vehicle reminded me when i drove my grandfathers old dodge dart; no power steering. i understand

The car's speakers, randomly and without any sort of predictability, let out and incredibly loud crackling/screeching/sound to the point of hurting your eardrums. it is very startling, it either persists and does not stop (sometimes for hours) or stops and sporadically returns. this issue has even caused me to jerk while driving as it is very loud and scary. turning volume down doesn't do anything, turning the sync system off doesn't do anything, this sometimes happens when the car is not even on (key isn't in ignition). it is a huge safety issue as this problem is so loud and unpredictable that it can certainly lead to a car accident. having read through a lot of online forums about this issue, i am not the only one having this problem.

Tcm replaced 66,550, clutch pack replaced 68,148, and complete communication failure between the throttle and transmission, tonight at 82,000 miles, i fully opened the throttle pedal down, and transmission failed to give me any acceleration for 3-5 seconds.this almost caused a bad situation tonight. radiator replaced at 77,600, coolant still drops to the min- line. no reasoning on where the coolant is going.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. after the contact pressed the push start button to shut off the vehicle, it did not shut off. the vehicle eventually turned off independently after a few minutes. there were no warning indicators illuminated prior to the failure. the manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 68,000.

Car will not recognize key and they tried to replace the body control module and now my car is just dead

Radio has interior short that caused loud cracking noise with key in or out. radio ended up not working at all, cracking even happened with radio not working. called car audio shop, owner laughed and said he fixes 6 to 12 of these a year. noise could cause accident by surprising the driver.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. on june 15, 2017, the horn was repaired by mike bass ford (5050 detroit rd, sheffield, oh 44035). approximately six months later, the horn stopped working. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired again. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 67,000.

Vehicle exhibits shifting problems in low gears (starting out from stop); loss of power, check engine light turns on, transmission overheating error message is displayed on dash

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the horn was inoperable. the electrical fuse was replaced, but the failure continued. the cause of the failure was not determined. the local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 82,000.

Car will show "stop safely now" warning and completely shut off all controls at highway speeds. that car does not allow you to move it out of the fast lane or any lane. there is no way to move the car to safety once the warning activates. very dangerous situation.

Tried sounding the horn due to another vehicle running a red light in my immediate path. horn was inoperative. being a skilled technician, i troubleshot the issue down to the horn itself, as both the fuse and relay were serviceable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving at any speed, the gear shifted out of first gear and an unknown warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle stalled and was towed to the contact's residence. the vehicle failed to start and was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the computer system failed and the transmission needed to be replaced. the manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failures. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was not provided.

Doesn't drive or go in reverse was at a red light it didn't want to drive off almost caused a wreck

My car engine would not shut off!

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving 20-30 mph, the instrument cluster gauges fluctuated and the vehicle lunged forward. the contact stated that the hill assist and abs warning indicators illuminated and the instrument cluster became inoperable. the contact stated that the vehicle had not experienced the failures prior to being repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 13v523000 (power train). castle ford (located at 3930 franklin st, michigan city, in 46360, (219) 879-5381) and the manufacturer were informed of the failures via telephone. the failures were intermittent. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 52,154.

In the course of less than a month, the car's problem progressed from intermittent starting issues that left me stranded to a full-on failure of the transmission control system. the clutch of the vehicle had been replaced and the transmission repaired in june 2018. on may 30th, 2019, the car was taken in due to transmission starting issues. the lights would turn on when turning the key, but the engine would not crank. the car was returned after the transmission control module was replaced. on june 11, 2019, the car was returned to the dealership for the same issue. car would not start and took about 50 tries after having been stranded for several hours. car was returned to me several days later because nothing was found. on june 19, 2019, i was driving down the highway, i was in the left lane going about 60 mph. i tried to accelerate to pass someone, and my car would not accelerate. when i looked down, my check engine light was flashing, my battery light was on, and my oil light was on. the car downshifted and started to rapidly decelerate. engine shut down, and car was rolling to a stop. i had to rush to the right lane in rush hour traffic, and i managed to roll my way up the exit ramp, where my car shut down completely at the top of the exit ramp. car would not restart, and i was stranded there for over an hour in a dangerous place and situation. i called a tow, and after trying to start my car intermittently for over an hour, the engine finally started. i drove it straight to the dealership to be checked out again.the same issue with transmission control has persisted, resulting in me having to take the car in on three separate occasions in about two weeks. it started of from intermittent starting issues to the car shutting down completely while traveling at a high speed. this car has done nothing but put me in danger, and i haven't even paid it off yet.

The vehicle had a recall on the transimission. i took the vehicle in for the recall. the vehicle ran good for about two months. the vehicle has started to slipe when i hit the gas, like it neeed more gas. if the gas padle if hit any harder, i going to push it throught the floor.

Horn stops working randomly while driving or when just started. horn sometimes won't work for days

In my 2014 ford focus, the radio is making awful sounds. it started off as music would stop playing then a loud bang would happen and the radio would cut back on immediately after. now it is an issue where the radio and car is completely turned off and will make loud popping, static, screeching, and white noise. currently, it is still having these same issues while driving and even when the vehicle is parked and the key is out of the ignition; i have also found the issue has progressed worse to where the car is making these noises after opening the drivers door with no key near and after not being driven for a couple of days.when the issue had started i was at a busy intersection and it sounded like cars were rear ending me. i am scared to drive my car because these sounds are sudden and as a young driver it is extremely dangerous, because these sounds are loud enough for me to potentially jerking the wheel and causing an accident. i have contacted ford on multiple occasions about this issue because it is extremely concerning for me, they said that they could not do anything, and could not even tell me some plans to potentially fix it without having the dealership diagnosis the issue which is a lot of money when it is not an owner error. i have also looked at multiple online forms where hundreds of people with focuses ranging from 2012-2015 are also having this issue and are not getting help from ford at all. all owners agree this is an extremely dangerous issue that needs to be resolved and it seems like we are getting pushed to the back-burner because it is not a safety issue, when it indeed is. i have also found where mechanics are telling people the fuses could be bad, which could start a fire which is extremely concerning. i also found where ford issued a tsb for 2012-2013 models that are having the same issue.

The car randomly stalls and dies while i am driving it. it has died on the interstate and on rural roads and highways. this is very dangerous and there is currently a recall out on a part of the 2014 ford focus which causes this problem. it dies when i am driving and coasting, when i accelerate, and when i have my cruise set.

Takata recall electrical wiring is going in and out, radio is not saving stations that i save, display goes in and out and has static. warning sign apperars every so often

Started hearing crackling/popping noises from my radio, sometimes even with the key off. sometimes very loud, which surprises me while driving. which is obviously extremely dangerous.

This appears to be the same issue as the 14s17-s1 recall affecting the 2013-2014 ford focus st and escape models. lost all power while driving and engine began stuttering while i was traveling on the highway at 65 miles per hour. i was barely able to reach to shoulder before the vehicle was immobilized. i was charged 830 dollars by my local dealership (inver grove ford lincoln in inver grove heights mn) to locate and repair chaffed and damaged wiring in the engine harness in the identical location to the st and escape models.

Car has stalled six times in one week transmission has shift to neutral while in drive when car stalls have to pull to side of road and put in park and restart transmission shudders no power very dangerous situation almost rear -ended by truck an engine malfunction service now message will display on message screen yesterday was by far the worst day engine dies pull to side of road put in park restart put in drive like it was in neutral turn car off restart put in drive very little power to transmission pull back over to side of road restart put in drive had power to transmission.will park vehicle until situation is resoved

When turning left or right it would make a grinding noise at all speeds on backroads or highway speeds. also, when going straight it was difficult to maintain a straight path and takes resistance. when i took it to the ford dealership they stated it was an electrical issue in the computer for the steering system causing it to malfunction.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while the vehicle was idling, it failed to move when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle also experienced hesitation when accelerating and shut off on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that there was electrical failure and a faulty transmission. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 56,000.

After the recall "repair" my car began exhibiting the issues described in the recall. this system caused my clutch to burn up and now ford will not repair issue. stepping on the gas either floods engine or stalls engine. issue is especially noticed when leaving a stopped state.

Upon "check engine" light illumination, i took car to garage to have codes read. they showed me what they believed to be the issue and said i should check with ford for recalls or compensation to have what is clearly a manufacturing defect fixed. i googled my situation and was stunned to see how common a problem it is. one example of this can be found at: https://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/mk3-focus/517737-tsb-14-0215-chafing-wiring-harness.html. in my situation the wire harness has cut through from rubbing on the manifold and there is obvious corrosion to the wiring. this causes sporadic loss of acceleration and has caused the engine to not start upon two occasions. loss of acceleration when traveling can be extremely dangerous and accident causing. and the cost to fix this manufacturing flaw seems dependent on how many wires are involved, and if any circuits were actually fried and non-working as a result of the wiring issue. i was quoted upwards of $1000 for the full wiring harness alone with no labor (worse case scenario). i am also unable to pass nys inspection until the issue is fixed and the codes are cleared. i have spoken to a representative from ford and was informed that no programs are in place at this time to deal with this issue. ford has obviously been aware of this flaw for several years now. if i had been made aware of this issue, it could have been easily corrected before it became destructive and dangerous and a major repair job. i feel ignoring this issue is negligent on the part of ford.

Electrical wiring malfunction, internal computer is malfunctioning not giving detailed on info for my car if anything is wrong. fuel line malfunction. small leak and smell

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle decelerated and stalled without warning. in addition, the check engine indicator illuminated. the contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, it operated in limp mode. varney ford inc (located at 237 moosehead trail, newport, me 04953, (888) 460-7356) was contacted and an appointment was scheduled to have the vehicle diagnosed on april 12, 2019. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline). the manufacturer was also made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact was unable to start the vehicle and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 46,000.

Every time my ford focus shifts from 1st-2nd or 2nd-3rd the entire car not only shutters but its extremely sluggish and seems like it's going to stall out. (automatic transmission) there are no warning light lit on my dash and the car barely has 56,000 miles on it. when i bought the car it had 35,000 miles and the problem existed then and has progressively gotten worse. yesterday i was at a yield sign to enter the round about near my house and when i pressed the gass my car shuttered horribly and only went forward a few feet, i was nearly struck by a truck that had to suddenly swerve to keep from hitting us. i took my foot off the gas. when i pressed it again, this time with more force, it shuttered and jerked so hard it forcefully threw my head back against the seat! my 5yr old daughter that was in the back seat was crying uncontrollably, scared because we were almost hit by a truck! the seatbelts in the backseat of my car, have came unbuckled several times while my 2yr old and 5yr old children were in their carseats. when i attempt to rebuckle them it takes about 15- 20 minutes of my consistently trying to get the buckle to latch onto the seatbelts!

The radio making a loud unexpected popping noise. dangerous while driving. even with vehicle off, it's making the noise. this is a ford problem.

While driving on a busy street the car made a sound with the words 'engine fault: ...' the cars electrical functions went haywire within a minute of the first warning and the car died.

My car alerted traction control/hill assist issue while driving under 35 mph. (note i work 3rd shift) next morning got off work and it was dead but was able to jump it. next night i removed keys from ignition from parked car and vehicle continued to run. next morning car would not start and was able to be jumped. took to local ford dealership and they diagnosed it as the tcm (transmission control module) module which they replaced and returned my car. same night car would not start again. took over an hour to get the car charged just to drive to dealership 3 minutes away and the car would not go over 1500 rpm and wouldn't allow me to go over 15 mph. got to the dealership and had worker witness a test drive in the passenger seat, then parked withe worker still inside and she was able to witness the car not shutting off after key removal. notified today from service department manager it is now the bcm (body control module) and will be $2900 plus tax to replace the bcm as well as the wire harness that has melted now due to this issue. ford has told me that they have no programs or recalls to help cover these costs. after research i have discovered that this is and issue with others that have the same vehicle and ford issued a recall for the 2015 ford focus for this same bcm issue but of course my vin (2014 ford focus se hatchback) is not included. i have had nothing but issues related to the transmission and computer of my car in the 49 months that i have owned it.

Takata recall complaint. my son and i purchased a 2014 ford focus together. the rear door was a constant problem in latching properly and this is complaint #1. complaint #2 is the inability to drive the car any more. the car motor seized (my son said the the engine blew up) while driving on the freeway in calif. and had to be towed away. my ex wife spent $4,500 to have the transmission repaired prior to this incident, by a local repair shop in california only to have the car back in the same undriveable condition. apparently the new transmission now had electrical defects. the local ford dealer told my son to take the car back to the repair shop that performed the work on the car. the concept of the 14mo2 recall or failed service action never arose. we still have a balance on the loan to ford credit and an undriveable 2014 car. i find it hard to believe that after patronizing ford by purchasing 2 explorers prior to this focus, that such mechanical issues would exist.

Vehicle's engine does not turn off after placing transmission in park, turning key to off position, and then removing key. engine continues to run until fuel pressure drops and eventually stalls. ignition circuit remains energized and will drain battery. this has happened multiple times.

Ever since we had the tcm reset by the dealership i've had a problem with my car starting and shutting off while at a stop but not it not even starting anymore and i've replaced fuses and the ground wire on it which made it work for a day or two than nothing and it's been like this for a few months now please help me to figure out what i need to do to fix it or let me swap for another thank you for looking into this for me so please let me know

As i was driving, coming off i-70w ramp onto a main city street, my cars "engine fault, service now" indicator came on the screen. my car was still on but would not accelerate. i managed to get to the side of the ramp through the traffic. i attempted to restart my vehicle but was unable. after letting it rest for a few minutes i turned the key again while giving the engine gas. it sputtered on and i was able to make it onto the street. however, it would not accelerate at usual. reved at 400, i was still only getting up to 20 mph after about 500 ft. it died again once i got under the underpaid, attempting to make it the remaining three minutes to work. after a few more attempts i was able to get it started again and creeped the rest of the way to work with my hazards on. while working i called my dealership for a tow, since my husband carries an extended warranty and roadside assistance. after having it towed they informed us that it was the wiring harness an that it would not be covered under our warranty. they also then told us that the tow would not be covered either since we did not use the appropriate company for roadside. my husband purchased this vehicle six weeks ago and we are now facing a $1400 repair and a $300 diagnostic and tow. aftevsome research my husband found that 2014 ford focus st had a recall for the exact issue. i feel that the fault may be for more that just the sports addition.

The engine light came on stating that it is a o2 sensor issue. i've replaced the o2 sensor several times. i've had mechanics and the dealership look at it with no ability to figure out what it is. it is believed to be electrical, most likely the wire harness. my alternator was affected as well by this electrical issue. i have had to put in a few new o2 sensors, two new alternators, and a battery.

The customer came in with a no start concern that required the vehicle be jumped each morning. we performed a warranty battery test and determined the battery was not at fault. at that point we proceeded with diagnosis starting with testing the draw on the system. after letting the vehicle sit and disconnecting anything that may draw on the battery we still found a 3 amp draw pulling from the battery. upon inspection we found the air bag deactivation light lit on the dash with the key off. checked the wiring diagram found the airbag light is powered out of the bcm. unplugged connector c2280g draw goes away. checked all connectors at bcm, found c2280d with washer fluid in the connector and connector burnt from high resistance. checked connector c137 at the washer pump found the washer pump leaking into connector c137 and pumping all the way to the bcm along circuits crw23 and crw24. connector c2280d is not serviced as a pigtail, so a complete harness will be needed to complete the repair. a bcm and washer pump will be needed to resolve this concern in its entirety

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that one of the wires in the wire harness was fractured. the contact also stated that the vehicle shook violently and the "engine fault service now" and check engine indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to imperial ford (8 uxbridge rd, mendon, ma 01756, (888) 814-8373) where it was diagnosed that the wire harness was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was scheduled to be repaired this week. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was 90,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and all the warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline). the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 64,000.

1.) while in driving motion my car acts like it stalls or gets stuck in a gear or has a problem shifting. 2.) while in reverse motion my car sometimes wants to act like it can't go in reverse, like i can't back up or drive. i restart the car sometimes & then it's fine.

Entire electrical sync system has shut down and no longer functions. while the sync was going out, the speakers would crackle and make loud, startling pop sounds. this caused jerky driving as they would pop without any notice, even if the sync system was turned off. recently, the wind shield wipers turned on and were sporadically increasing/decreasing in speed and would not turn off. the car was on (not the engine) and parked when the wipers turned on. attempted to turn the car off, reset by opening the doors, and turning the car back on. they paused and then started up again once the car was driving on city streets. the speakers popping and the radio malfunction occurs while driving, while parked, when the car is on, and when it is off. this problem has been getting worse and worse over the past year.

Horn - began working intermittedly, then not at all. first noticed when locking and setting alarm, then while driving at normal speed or at a stand still

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the transmission was faulty and the vehicle would not shift into drive or reverse. the vehicle would also shudder and hesitate while driving. furthermore, the battery was faulty and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to terry hendricks ford (904 stryker st, archbold, oh 43502, (419) 445-7460) where it was diagnosed that a new clutch needed to be installed. the vehicle was repaired; however, the new clutch failed. shortly after, the vehicle was repaired again by an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and did not assist. the failure mileage was 89,000.

Radio keeps shutting off and making a crackling noise thru speakers, will not work for days at time and also going down road the car completely shut down and started back on it's own. the crackling noise is on going with or without key in ignition , also after filling all the way up with gas car doesn't want to start back up, safety light stays on
