2013 ford focus, was bought new from dealership and has had clutch issues from beginning. the car stutters on acceleration, shifts hard, and occasionally there is a delay when the gas pedal is pressed. a recall was performed on this car and the clutch was replaced, but still had same issue. this car has been seen 8 times for this issue, and has never been resolved. the clutch that was replaced during the recall has failed the performance test, but the dealership will not replace due to expired warranty. recently another recall was issued on this vehicle due to a stuck cannister purge valve. this causes the engine to stall and the fuel meter to read incorrectly. this caused me to run out of gas on the highway when my gas meter reported i still had half a tank of fuel. on 11/29/18, the dealership performed the recall and believing my fuel meter to now be accurate, i ran out of gas again at a quarter tank full. my check engine light is back on and it is again throwing a code for the purge valve. this car has several safety issues which ford dealer has been unable and unwilling to remedy.

The engine stalled while pulling into parking lot. i turned off the car, put it in park, and was able to restart the engine. check engine light was on with code p144a. i took it to a ford dealership and they replaced the purge valve. they claimed it was not covered by the recall for the purge valve because it had a different diagnostic code (recall #18s32). no one was ever able to explain how the problem with my car was different from the description of the recall problem, however.

On october 25, 2018 my car populated a cel code p0087 after ignition when the car was stationary. the car takes about 5 seconds to start half the time. the turbo is disabled and had reduced acceleration, which the dealer said was crawl mode. when i took it to the dealer, they said the code was caused by the defective purge valve damaging my fuel pump and would be covered under by recall 18s32. they said that my car is not safe to drive but that ford has disapproved the request for a loaner car, and that parts are backordered. when i called ford customer service on 1/4/2019, they said they do not provide loaner cars for this recall and advised me that me vehicle was safe to drive.

First sign of an issue was the check engine light illuminating in october of 2018. shortly after the engine randomly started losing power and shutting down completely at random intervals. it could either be while driving or sitting at a stop light. i go to accelerate and notice the engine has shut off. the car will frequently behave as if it has reduced power when pushing the accelerator pedal. the rpms of the car will also randomly fluctuate as the car is struggling to get enough fuel to keep it running which also brings a very rough idle. the rpms do not climb as quickly and the engine has a low rumble to it sounding like it is struggling. this is also accompanied by what sounds like backfires coming from the exhaust. when refueling and putting the gas pump into the car there is a large high pressure release from the gas tank. upon trying to restart the car the starter motor has to spin for an extra 5 seconds or so until the engine turns on. when it does turn on it sputters and struggles to get to a stable idle rpm.

After fueling up a few weeks ago, and starting my car right after, car would not turn over. would stall immediately. only could start car if i gave it gas when turning it over. then, when idling at a stop, rpm's would bottom out to well under where it should (500 or less rpm). car shakes and rattles at idle. car also will stall when slowing down to a stop. my car has stalled several times in the past 2 weeks. sometimes at a complete stop, other times it has stalled while in motion (including 1 stall in an intersection that nearly caused me to be hit) check engine light is on. got code p144a (purge valve issue, with evap leak). replaced my vapor canister purge solenoid per the check engine code. car is still having issues.

My wife ran out of gas on the highway, at highway speed, when the gauge said she had many more miles to go until empty. she did not expect to run out of fuel and doing so caused a great risk of person al injury and even greater inconvenience. the dealer may want to charge money to fix a problem that is most likely the same parts that i have heard are on recall for the 2012 focus. there also seems to be a wiring issue with the wiper system. it was discovered to not be working one day when i went to use the wiper washer fluid to clean the windshield. there was no fuse problems or warnings that thing might be a problem. this is also most likely a recurring model year issue that has not been fixed but also has not been recalled yet.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. the contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the canister purge valve needed to be replaced. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline). the parts to do the repair were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. galpin ford (15505 roscoe blvd, north hills, ca 91343, (818) 787-3800) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. the manufacturer was notified and stated that they were working on the remedy for the recall. the failure mileage was 60,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.

My car is at the dealership for the second time since september 2018 due to the transmission recall. the car died while driving four times before i could get it home. i i had it towed to bill collins ford the next day. i was told in september the transmission was fixed yet the car never drove right. now the transmission and clutch need repair/replacing. they have had my car for one week and i have yet to be contacted by the dealership. these cars are not safe. someone is going to die as a result of these faulty transmissions.

While driving home from a vacation in florida on 9-15-18 (saturday), i was driving i75n in the third of four lanes going 75-80 mph. suddenly my car slowed down abruptly, i held the gas pedal to the floor but the car continued to lose speed. i quickly turned on my emergency flashers and turn signal to get over two lanes into the berm. thankfully i was not hit by the 80 mph traffic speeding by. once in the berm, the car just died. it would not turn on again. my lights all illuminated, the gas light, the battery light, the seatbelt light and the oil light, a clicking noise was also heard. it was 95 degrees that day in florida and i was traveling with my sister and my three dogs. my dogs are flat faced dogs who cannot tolerate heat. they quickly declined and were in the process of heat stroke as we were waiting for help to arrive for us. we did everything possible to keep them cool without the air conditioning working, but it was failing. we did managed to get help from a semi truck driver who allowed us to sit in his air conditioned cab, finally the dogs were safe. we waited for the state hwy patrol and the tow truck. the tow truck towed my car to a repair shop about 25 minutes away. the repair shop was not open until the following day so we were forced to get a hotel room for the night. sunday at noon, they opened. two and 1/2 hours later, they called me to tell me i had simply run out of gas. my car's gauges told me that i had 45 miles to empty and 1/4 tank of gas in the vehicle, so obviously this was not correct. we were terrified and were put into a very dangerous situation. we all could have died when the car stopped in traffic and my pets from the heat. a recall needs to be made on this problem as i have read many accounts of others who have lived through it as well.

My car is missing/stuttering, the fuel gauge doesn't show the accurate miles to empty, and my car shuts off while i'm driving both locally and on the highway. i've almost been in two wrecks because the car keeps shutting off. when i put gas in the vehicle the car won't immediately crank. i have to try to crank it about 3 times before it starts. my car does a lot of the same things that are listed in recall # 18v735.

Many people are aware of the transmission control module problem with the 2013 ford focus that has been recalled. however, i have had another problem with my ford focus that i researched and found that many more people are having the same or similar problem with their fuel tank collapsing and needing to replace most of the components in the entire fuel system. i had the purge valve replaced as an out of pocket expense as my extended warranty has expired, hoping this would fix the problem. i was informed by the mechanic that to fix my car completely, it would most likely need a new fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel line and of course the purge valve ( which i had replaced ). my car is only 5 years old and i do not know how or why i need to replace the entire fuel system. i have seen many posts describing the same situation on carcomplaints.com and know of someone locally who i know personally who has the exact same problem with their 2013 ford focus. when driving, my engine will shut off completely. from time to time, my oil light will come on as my engine stalls out and tries to 'die' and i can press the gas to 'revive' the engine and keep it from shutting off. this repair of the fuel system was estimated to cost $2,000 to repair and i just don't have it. i listed my car online for $5,400 as is and have no one interested in it at that price after i've invested nearly $20,000 in this car in the 4 years i've been making payments, maintenance and repairs on it. i've also had the power steering replaced on this vehicle when i had around 80,000 miles on it. the power steering failed while in motion and almost caused an accident. this particular vehicle is a dangerous one. buyer beware.

Was driving to work and my car would not go . the rpms went way high and i could not go over 15 miles per hour in my car. also my automatic clutch was bad and my stereo also has stopped working.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle decelerated and lost power in the middle of traffic. the contact coasted the vehicle off the road. in addition, the vehicle leaked fuel. also, when the contact filled up the fuel tank, the fuel tank gauge would not move. currently, the vehicle would not start and the check engine indicator illuminated. the contact called bill night ford (9607 s memorial dr, tulsa, ok 74133, (918) 526-2400), but the dealer would not schedule a tow truck to retrieve the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and did not assist. the failure mileage was 141,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. while waiting for the red light to turn green, the vehicle began to hesitate and lose acceleration. also, the "transmission fault" message illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was towed to team ford/lincoln (905 brady ave, steubensville, oh 43952) where it was diagnosed that the clutch kit needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was towed to jim robinson ford (95 robinson dr, triadelphia, wv 26059) where it was currently being repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact also received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline). the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Vehicle runs rough and stalls at idle and low speeds. dealership states that fuel tank is collapsing due to defective purge valve.

On thursday august 2, 2018 around 8:30. the wires in the dash board caught on fire. the card began to fill with smoke. i could smell the burning and i wasn't sure of what was happening. i could hear a spark sound and i could tell that the wires where burning. this was an extremely dangerous situation, the entire car might have caught on fire , if my boyfriend didn't come and contain the fire.

The gas gauge is incorrect . now i cant pump more than 2-3 gallons at a time. i noticed yesterday that the gas tank is leaking gas. today my vehicle caught on fire due to wiring issues , and if the fire from the wires would have made contact with the leaking gas , the outcome would have been fatal.

This is a transmission issue. these transmissions are dangerous and put me at risk driving this car. something has to be done about these transmissions. it's unsafe

I am having an issue with filling my car with gasoline. it can take me up to 20 minutes to put $10 worth of gas in the car. the gas nozzle constantly will click off when i am filling the tank. it does not matter if i am doing it manually or if i set the gas nozzle to the automatic feature. i have to continually depress the nozzle to fill my car and it constantly clicks off. i have tried different gas stations, and i will try to hold the nozzle in different way, but it never works properly.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. the contact took the vehicle to gary smith ford (1 beal pkwy nw, fort walton beach, fl 32548, (888) 814-7437) to be repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 19v515000 (fuel system, gasoline) regarding the canister purge valve. after the recall repair was performed, the failure continued and the check engine indicator illuminated. upon returning to the dealer, the contact was informed that the recall was deemed ineffective and that the contact would have to pay out of pocket to repair the defect. the manufacturer was not notified. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 62,000.

Bought this vehicle used in may 2017. the previous owner just had the fuel pump replaced which cost him $700.00. had it one week and it ran out of gas, which according to the gauges, i should have had plenty of gas. my son came and put gas in and he looked underneath and noticed that my gas tank was "dented in." i just assumed the previous owner had hit something and never gave it another thought. well in the past few months the "miles to empty gauge" is not accurate and i ran out of gas again when it said i had 70 plus miles to empty and now the gas gauge is incorrect with fluctuations from a quarter to three quarters full. im now at the point where i have to set my trip meter to gauge when i am close to empty. i only have 80,000 miles and am out of warranty. this should be something that ford fixes since it is obviously an ongoing problem. they issued a recall for the fusions for the exact same issue, but not the focus?? from what i have been told, ford only issues recalls if the government forces them too!! this fix on this car will cost me $3000. !!!!

The car's fuel gauge was fluctuating, causing the car to run out of gas. while driving on highway and city streets the car would shut off (very dangerous). it is currently in the shop and we are told the fuel tank and pump have collapsed. how can this be a normal thing? we have not gotten the repair bill yet, but from what i have read it will be $1000-$2000. this should be a safety recall and covered by ford!! this vehicle is only 5 years old. we bought a brand new car for our daughter to avoid these issues.

This car's fuel gauge reads in error. car runs out of gas even though the fuel gauge reads over 100 miles to empty. it has happened to me 3 times before i realized exactly what was happening. twice on the interstate at 70mph. my car just diedz the gas gauge showed ample gas when the car was nearly empty. it was very scary. to simply have the engine die and cost thru traffic to the shoulder. my car has only 28000 miles on it. the dealership tells me a sensor failed, the tank is warped and the entire fuel system must be replaced at a cost of $2300. it is not covered under any warranty as the car is older than 5 years.

Evap check valve (or purge valve) stopped working causing the plastic gas tank to begin to implode on itself. damaging the entire canister system. to the tune of an estimated $1,800 parts and labor to get it fixed.

Ive called not one but two dealerships and they keep saying they can only fix the doors on my car but the fuel has had a recall on it for just as long i can not continue to be afraid to put my 4 month old son in my vehicle because they refuse to fix or even attempt to fix the issue my vehicle continuously cuts off at random times anywhere even going down the interstate i always keep it above half a tank and it still cuts off im putting my hole family at risk due to a issue ford refuses to fix and i can not afford to get a newer car or even a different car. i also can not drive a rental while it sits at a shop for months. it cuts off taking off slowing down and even running at speed.

Takata recalls took in for recall to fix the problems. the vehicle when driven, about to stall when it slows down, like at stop, it sounds like a little gas being taken while in motion, city street, country road, then highway

After filling up the tank with gas, the vehicle stutters and feels like it's jumping when i am at a stop light and start to go. the gas gauge goes up while i am driving and the vehicle runs out of gas randomly. i was parked at my house and it wouldn't crank when i ran out of gas the 1st time (about three weeks ago) and the 2nd time (6/6/2018), i was on the interstate and the vehicle died due to no gas, yet the gauge was not on empty. fortunately i was able to get off the side of the road and call roadside assistance. the vehicle is now at at ford service repair shop and i am waiting to hear from them but the service repairman said this is a common problem, that he had the same vehicle in the week before with this same issue. last friday, i had a customer service representative with a ford dealership tell me this is a common problem that occurs in this vehicle. obviously running out of gas randomly is very dangerous. there needs to be a recall on this immediately to save lives. ford needs to take responsibility for this manufacturing defect.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. the contact purchased the vehicle in new jersey from a used dealer. the contact was not informed that there was an extended warranty from may 10, 2013 or up to 60,000 miles that had expired. the contact stated that the engine stalled several times, there was a drastic reduction in speed, and the vehicle accelerated intermittently. on october 22, 2018, nets campaign number: (fuel system, gasoline) was issued. an independent mechanic stated that the vehicle was included in an extended warranty, but had not provided any specific guidelines to repair the vehicle. stevens jersey city ford (740 nj-440, jersey city, nj 07305, (201) 432-7272) and the manufacturer were made aware of the failure. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in any warranties. the approximate failure mileage was 10,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle restarted when the gear was shifted into neutral. also, the check engine indicator remained illuminated. the failure recurred several times. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline). the vehicle was taken to fairlane ford (313-846-5000, located at 14585 michigan ave, dearborn, mi 48126) where the contact was provided a loaner vehicle. the vehicle was kept at the dealer's for the recall repair. one week later, the contact was called and informed to return the loaner vehicle; however, the technician stated that the part was on backorder. the manufacturer was notified and informed the contact to always maintain a half tank of fuel while driving until the part became available. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 90,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.

Auto stop working and sudenly shift off un highways with unknown rasons or cause. this is exprience at lease 2 or 3 times daily. several warning lights comes on. then you need to stop and restart. this is dangerous when it happens in highways.

The car is stalling and has a rough idle. within 2 weeks my car stalled and then shut down while driving 55 mph on the highway and would not restart or stay on once i got it pulled over to side of the road. i was lucky that there was no one directly behind me on the road otherwise it would have been a really bad disaster. gas mileage said i had over 100 miles to empty. paid to get it towed twice and when taken to the mechanic he turned it on (after 2 hours) and the car showed empty 0 miles/fuel. he put a few dollars in gas and it ran just fine. since then i cannot trust the fuel reading of mileage. ford dealer says there is no recall on fuel system but they are happy to do a diagnosis for over $100 and then they can tell me whats wrong with it. not an affordable solution at this time other than to put gas in it after i drive every 50 miles. south boston, va

My car smell like gas and after iput gas in the car im unable to start it. my front door its closing as if the latch has broken, but it looks ok

Manufacturer recall number18s32 nhtsa recall number18v735 our vehicle's fuel tank collapsed over a year ago and we are unable to fully use the vehicle. ford doesn't appear to be providing necessary parts to dealers for repair. we are getting nowhere and the car is unsafe. perhaps you can compel ford to fix this recall in a more timely manner. i suspect there are others with the same problem. thank you in advance.

Vehicle stalls while driving, rpms drop and car loses power. check engine light, error code says check gas cap (there isn't one). vacuum effect so strong that it is difficult to add gasoline to vehicle. wildly varying gas gauge readings.dealer diagnostic reveals failed purge valve has resulted in collapsed gas tank and damaged fuel pump. multiple occasions vehicle stalled was in motion and while stopped.

Ford focus shuts off when you press the brakes. it cranks back up fine but whenever you pull off and stop or try to slow down the car will shut down. it is happening constantly now.

Car shudders at varying severities--sometimes more mild than others, mostly severe otherwise during accelration, and various moments while driving, and during the entire process of turning. i have brought my vehicle to george wall ford lincoln in shrewsbury nj twice for this specific issue. first time they updated a module and it helped for about a week. then the problem returned. second time they had it even longer, and upon pick up i was told that the car was acting 'within spec', and doing 'what it is designed to do,' so no fix was made. car continues to shudder severely. transmission is technically manual, despite being an automatic, and the computer does the shifting. that is what i was told. however, if that is the case, then this car drives manual terribly. i contacted ford customer support chat and was told i do not qualify for buyback because of car's age/mileage. care is under 50k miles, and i bought the car certified preowned november 2017, just under a year ago. i was not informed of any recalls, or the transmission's behavior upon looking, buying, and paying for the car in full all in one evening. i have just sent a lenghtly letter to ford customer relationships this week. awaiting response. may file lemon law if situation is not handled properly. i have been told my car's issue is not safety related so it is not dire, however during inclement weather, or when going through turns, or simply starting my car gently at lights has become an issue, and i have nearly been rear ended many times. eventually i will not be so lucky as to escape yet another near-accident. soon, i can only imagine, i will most likely have a car come crashing into my rear end because of failed and shuddering accelration due to the shoddy transmission clutch shudder.

We had he check engine light come. a check of the code showed a fuel delivery system problem. we also noticed that when trying to fuel the vehicle when placing the fuel nozzle into the fuel fill a rush of air would escape. after fueling the car would not start. once we get the car started it would run rough for several miles. also, the fuel gauge was wrong. the fuel gauge would show 1/2 tank but we ran out of gas. the mechanic had to replace the fuel tank, our mechanic had to replace the fuel tank, purge valve and associated hoses, fuel pump. also, another problem arose with the instrument cluster. all of the gauges including the radio went blank and would not function. the mechanic had to disconnect the battery and reset the computer for the instruments and radio to begin working again.

Vehicle would suddenly turn off while running. happened too many times while on the freeway that almost cause accidents, even on street from the stop lights it would just turn off. one is issue is the faulty fuel gauge, it would say that the fuel tank is full but halfway empty or empty. did some research online and found other owners have the same issue of the vehicle shutting off while running. according to some reports, other owners have had to replaced the fuel tank that was deformed due to the issue of faulty fuel gauge. other reported of replacing fuel pump, purge valve and or emission canister. i contacted ford about the issue and it seems like it's something they don't want to talk about but they know there an issue. they won't give me a direct answer to my questions. so far, i have not heard any reports of fatality about this issue but we were close, as recently as yesterday morning when my cousin was driving on the freeway with an 18-wheeler behind him when the car's engine just shuts off. this happens quite a few times. what's worst about this is ford won't even talk to the owners about this issue. i tried to get some answer from them but they won't say a word. it's frustrating! the car is only 4 years old and under 75k miles, having this issue that would cost thousands of dollars to fix. it's not the owners fault but manufacturer's fault or issue. they need to own up on this problem before some gets killed on the freeway. when is ford going to step on this? how about nhtsa, what are you going to do about this? we, the owners need answer and we need solution from ford about this safety issue. while no one is dead yet, now is the time to assess this problem. nhtsa, please help us fix this problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact would have to add fuel to the vehicle in order to regain power. also, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the vehicle's purge solenoid failed and caused the fuel tank to collapse, which informed the vehicle that there was no fuel. the failure then caused the vehicle to stall. the contact was informed that the purge valve solenoid, fuel tank, and fuel pump needed the replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 89,000. *ln consumer stated fuel gauge showed 1/4 to 1/8 in tank. computer reflected 50 to 70 miles before fuel needed. fuel light never came on. normal driving and all of a sudden would shut down, out of fuel, ran out of gas 3 times. updated 8/22/18*jb
