We have classified the 793 complaints from 2013 Ford Focus about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Horrible transmission shudder / slippage when accelerating from a stop through the first few gear changes. ongoing issue.
With an automatic transmission and at slow speeds the engine stalled, and jerked especially in congested highway traffic such as stop and go speeds. after a new clutch was installed by the local ford dealership, the engine now surges and hesitates at slow speeds and when in the passing mode at highway speeds the engine keeps accelerating even when the gas pedal is released.
I have had 5 transmission failures since i bought the car. the last 3 failures occurred in less than 3 weeks (and less than 30 miles on the road!) and, when the last one happened, my wife and i have almost crashed. we were driving downhill on a very steep road and suddenly the clutch disengaged and went to neutral right before a curve. i think this is a very dangerous problem, not taken seriously by ford
At 9:30pm on may 12th 2016 i was driving on i-5 through downtown seattle going approximately 60 miles an hour in the far left lane, when the gas pedal dropped all the way to the floor and i completely lost power. i had to change across 4 lanes of traffic while my vehicle was steadily losing power to exit at mercer st. from there i barely made it to the side of the road on westlake ave where a tow truck picked me up. following that experience i have had to take my car to have the clutch/transmission repacked 5 times!!! each time when the clutch is starting to fail, it shudders, shakes and loses power. i am afraid of it losing power in a intersection and being t-boned by another vehicle (this has happened to other owners of these cars). ford is responsible for fixing this, however they have not taken responsibility and here i and about 4 million other customers are left with lemons! hold ford accountable for their faulty transmission/clutches from 2011-2016 fiesta/focuses, all i want is a dependable car that will last more than 4 years and 68,000 miles.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled after refueling the vehicle, and the transmission slipped. the vehicle was taken to chuck stevens ford (1304 us-31, bay minnette, al 36507) where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was also taken to jim cook ford (located at 620 troy road, elba, alabama) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 86,000.
The car shudders when taking off from a stop sign or light. this is ridiculous!
I was driving home and noticed a slight loss of power to transmission via the gas pedal. the next morning in rush hour traffic on i-20 my transmission failed. i was unable to move my car for several minutes and then it seemed to catch enough for me to pull to the side. i turned my car off and restarted it and was able to make it to work. i drove it to dealership and told them what happened. they called me monday night to say it was fixed. i picked it up tuesday after work. i was in rush hour traffic on weds morning and it failed again. this time it would not move at all. i put my flashers on to avoid being struck. i tried several times to get it to start again and go. finally i was able to get the transmission to engage. i took it back to the dealership and the transmission failed again. i restarted my car and made it to the dealership. they said they fixed it. i don't trust it since they had just "fixed" it before and less than 24 hours later it failed again. i told them when i brought it in the first time it was a safety recall. i tried to recall all i could about when and where. my impression is that the transmission failed in all instances when i had been driving it for at least 20 minutes. i was in rush hour traffic but moving traffic the first time and the second time i was in stopped traffic due to an accident on i-20 and the last time also in moving traffic. time seems to be the common factor, at least 20 minutes of driving time before it shuts down.
New dealer maintained 2013 focus titanium focus 6 months old about 18000 miles had bad wheel bearing on the drivers side, at 46000 transmission was overhauled due to poor shifting,at120000 catalytic converter failed,at136000 car died due to bad wiring harness and fried several sensors, at 143000 transmission control module failed, at 144000 the transmission module failed again on a 3 year old car.
My 2013 ford focus has 60k miles or less and the rack and pinion went out while i was driving and other than that i got the car at 36k miles and has had it in the shop twice because of shuttering in between gears which is scary sometimes. needless to say the software was updated twice and clutch was replaced and it still shutters.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle jerked and failed to obtain traction for several seconds. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the clutches needed to be replaced. the vehicle was unable to be repaired due to the parts being on backorder. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 64,000.
Transmission causes the vehicle to shutter when accelerating from low speeds. the transmission also makes a grinding noise with varying performance in gear shifts and acceleration speed. the issue is intermittent, making the performance of the vehicle difficult to predict . this creates a dangerous situation when accelerating from a stop, e.g. when pulling through an intersection from a stop.
2013 ford focus with 39000 miles on it. i have noticed the shudder on acceleration. returned it to dealer, they reset computer. the shudder has returned.
After having the car from new for 3 years and 5 months, the car has been to the dealer for transmission issues and repairs multiple times and with a computer failure for the shifting. the computer failure left us stranded 80 miles from home and with out of state family. it took 4 complaints initially before the dealer finally looked and noticed leaking from the transmission to get the parts to replace the clutches, seals and other parts at 30,000+/- miles. then the computer failure was at 48,000 miles. i don't trust the car now due to reliability issues with the dct transmission. the transmission computer failure happened while driving down the highway and pulling off to check things out. complete failure happened once i tried to get going again. dealer said the computer was under a recall that i was never notified on.
Transmission jerks and hesitates when pulling out since the day i bought it 2 yrs ago. talked to the dealer and was told it was normal. had a computer update done and still the the same. as of recently the problem got worse. i was at a red light in the middle of a busy intersection when the light changed i pulled out and then the transmission would not shift and i was stuck sideways in the middle of the intersection with oncoming traffic. i shut the car off and restarted it and was able to get off the road then it did the same thing again. i again shut it off and let it sit for about 15 min tried it and was able to make it back home. since then it has happened a few more times with the same result. i have researched and seen alot of other people are having similar problems and ford is aware and yet nothing . my factory warranty has expired and i cannot afford repair costs that according to reports does not completely fix the problem anyway nor can i afford to replace the car because i owe more than it is worth. any information or help would be greatly appreciated.
The so called automatic transmission , slips and chatters when starting from a stop. the issue is worst when trying to start from a stop on any inclined road or trying to make a turn, the car has been reflashed in feb 2016 as per the tsb, i was told by the dealership that i had to drive it for a min of 600 miles before they would retest it, the issue is it is worse after the reflash programing of the transmission control module. i have times when trying to accelerate , that the dash warning lamps come on and buzzers go off, the car won't move then bang it moves ,a totally unsafe car ,esp.in the eyes of a now retired master auto tech who fixed cars for 45 years.
Transmission does not shift into gears as it should ,no power going up hill.sounds like motor going to fall out when you park.these happens several times and at different places
I can't start the car or it randomly will not start. i leave heading to work everything is ok, car starts no problem. when i get back into the car and try to drive home or store. car will not start, dashboard says car is in park or neutral. when i turn key to the on position, i move the gear shift to other gears, still dashboard says it's in park. my t-mobile more than likely went out but, they can't replace it until my check engine light comes on for the codes for my tcm. if the problem for the car is known for having bad seals and tcm, why not just replace it. this will be the 3 time i have taking my car back to the dealer, and there only solution is reprogramming the car computer. i have taken it twice this week alone.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the failure recurred whenever the vehicle was operated. the vehicle was serviced for free per a manufacturer recall with a remedy to replace the clutch assembly. the contact stated that the remedy did not repair the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the recurring failure. the failure mileage was 32,152.
This car has had problems since it was purchased in may of 2015. transmission makes loud grinding noises, loss of power, stalling, loss of acceleration. i have had it to the dealer multiple times to only be told we've updated the transmission and it should be ok.....just drive the car, let it get used to my driving and it will be ok. not true! none of this has helped. the last time it went to the dealer, it had to be towed because it wouldn't start. this is a huge safety hazard and ford should be held responsible. they should not be allowed to keep sending customers on their way with vehicles that they know are faulty.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. while driving various speeds, the gear slipped into neutral. the vehicle shuttered extensively and was extremely difficult to drive. mankato ford (1935 madison ave, mankato, mn 56001, (507) 387-3454) diagnosed and replaced the clutch assembly, but the failure recurred. the dealer was aware that there was a warranty campaign for the vehicle and took an extended period of time to provide the clutch assembly. when the failure recurred, the manufacturer took a long time to provide the part for the power train control module replacement. the warranty campaign had since expired. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was initially serviced for the manufacturer's power train recall campaign number: 16s30, which also failed to provide a permanent remedy. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was not available.
Transmission shifting erratically, car jerks violently when taking off from a stop. this is a known problem in these dual clutch transmission. this car is unsafe, why else would ford keep extending the warranties on these transmission. these transmissions are not fixable and very unsafe. there are numerous class action lawsuits against ford on these transmissions. why haven't you forced a recall on this before people start dying
Purchased a used 2013 focus in january of 2014. drove fine for the first 6 month but since then have had it in the dealership 3 separate times for transmissions issues (in under 9 months) each time ford claiming it fixed the issue. new hardware ford is claiming to have put in the car is failing again. latest failure occurred at an intersection where i lost the ability to accelerate completely and had to get out and push the car with other motorists to saftey. the car then had to be towed to the dealer. this nature of this failure is going to eventually cause some serious injuries and crashes if it hasn't already. given the number of complaints i urge the nhtsa to open an investigation into this.
I purchased the car in question used from carmax in boynton beach, florida on the first week of march 2016. the ford focus had approx. 29,200 miles on the odometer. during the first 200 miles, i noticed the car shifting roughly from first to second, and second to third gears. the erratic operation was most noticeable when the engine was warm. when accelerating from a full stop, the vehicle would shudder and jerk sometimes. i took the car back to carmax after three days of shifting problems. representatives of carmax took the car to autonation ford in delray beach, florida for inspection and diagnosis. the dealer confirmed there were powertrain problems. now, i have been advised that there are field service bulletins pertaining to the transmission control module, shaft seal, and clutches. ford has advised me that the clutches need to be replaced and are on backorder for at least 8 to 10 weeks. it is likely i will be without my car for three months or longer.
When accelerating from a complete stop or when the car is running in a low gear, the car will hesitate, shudder, shake, jump violently, stall, grind gears, and/or make other noises at varying levels. was first noticed when making a turn from a stop sign. at first i thought it was my front driverside tire rubbing the wheel well as that was the type of sound i was hearing. i then started experiencing the shuddering and stalling behaviors. i also began hearing noises that sound like the grinding of gears like may occur when driving a manual transmission and missing the gear. most issues occur during city street driving. this went from an occasional occurrence to an every time i drive the car situation. this in no way feels normal or sounds normal.
Transmission shudders when shifting from 1st to 2nd. it also shudders at higher speeds, sometimes violently. it has been in for service twice in less than a month. the first time they updated the computer and it still shuddered on the way home. the second time ford reported that the vehicle "has the latest calibration and rpms are within ford spec at this time."
Have had car in for multiple transmission issue's. dropped off to dealer was told clutch was bad and part is on back order.this will be the fourth clutch installed have talked to ford and the bbb no help.the car has less than 60,000 mile been through four clutches and two tcm's. every four month car at dealership getting transmission work done.with all the issue's of the car value have decreased value . and will go upside down if trying to get rid of my lemon. i will never buy from ford again and am very disappointed in there handling of the problems.
Transmission is overheating; light comes on while in stop and go traffic. the car shifts harshly, makes gurgling noises, hesitates and jerks. roaring and clunking coming from engine when starting the vehicle and when vehicle is running.
Ford focus purchased in 2013. transmission in for repairs total of five times. two of those five times, vehicle had to be towed back to dealer. first tow: vehicle started shuddering violently while going 70 mph on expressway," transmission fault" light came on, (two children in the car under the age of 9 as well), turned hazards on and coasted off onto a nearby exit and waited for tow truck. second tow: vehicle stopped, shuddered while exiting expressway, warning system came on "transmission fault: service now". both times vehicle lost power, could not engage into gear. high traffic area on expressways, luckily was not injured. non-tow repairs: transmission shudders violently, has difficulty switching out of first or second gears, able to drive vehicle to shop, where it is serviced, but begins to have issues within several months of repairs each times, repeat of the same issues. this is an extremely unreliable and dangerous vehicle that loses power and has issues with the transmission locking up/failing at any given moment, despite multiple repairs and clutch replacements by a certified ford dealer. this vehicle needs to be seriously reevaluated for safety.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. while the vehicle was in motion, it shuttered extensively. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate and slowed down with a drastic reduction in speed numerous times without warning. capital ford (4900 capital blvd, raleigh, nc 27616, 919-878-4884, (877) 659-2496) stated that it may take a month and a week before the remedy and part would become available. the diagnosis was unavailable. the dealer advised the contact to either repair the vehicle or trade it in because they had limited technicians available. the dealer stated that they may service the vehicle with a warranty extension. the manufacturer issued 35 tsbs on the power train and 2 tsbs on the vehicle speed control. the vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 13v523000 (power train), which affected the 2012 to 2016 models. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and indicated for the dealer to diagnose and repair the vehicle. the failure mileage was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. while driving various speeds, the vehicle jerked while the accelerator pedal was depressed. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. the dealer stated that the vehicle was designed in that manner. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the failure mileage was unknown.
I have ford focus for 2 years from the first week on driving there is vibrating feeling and grinding sounds coming from the engine. when am at the stop light or in traffic when moving he vibration felt as if the engine is going fall out the car. i take it to the dealer to have a service done on it and i was told that there is a recall on the transmission module programming. a day later there is a pop up on my dashboard - transmission fault and its driving terribly. high compression sound coming from the engine and it slow down completely in traffic. i think this is at risk for an accident where drivers behind me and my safety . ford should really consider the recall on these cars
On december 26, 2015 i bought my daughter a used 2013 focus four door sedan with 46882 miles from a local dealership in annapolis, maryland. the car drove very nice with no obvious problems. in early february this year my daughter noticed that the transmission made a loud rattling, shuttering noise from a stop. it now happens from pulling forward from every stop, like from a stop sign or traffic light. the cars feels like there is no power to the wheels and when the transmission catches it lunges froward. the transmission feels like it is shifting between first and second gear and vibrates badly. the symptoms are getting worse and now the symptoms are worse and it happens almost every time you start from a stop. it is also worse if you are on an incline or slight hill although the symptoms can occur on a flat road. the symptoms also occur in reverse. the problem is now happening almost all the time. the car does not appear safe to drive. the car currently has only 49000 miles. i bought this car for my daughter and now i can not let her drive it since she commutes 75 miles a day. my daughter now has to use her mom's car and since i am handicapped i can not drive the focus so my wife has to and i feel she is at risk of injury or worse. i am over 50 years old and have never had a car do this. i have talked to other focus owners and they all have the same problem. someone has to do something to ford to have them fix the transmissions before a death occurs. not only do the dealerships not know how to fix the problems they are saying nothing is wrong. please help us consumers who have been the victims of fords new transmission. ford has not fixed this problem which was reported in 2012...it is now 2016!!!
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. while operating the vehicle, the transmission malfunctioned and caused the vehicle to stall. the vehicle would also not operate in reverse occasionally. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission was faulty. the transmission was repaired, but the failures continued. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 1,700.
While driving on the freeway at 65 mph the automatic transmission completely disengaged with a loss of control causing immediate slowdown. unable to re-engage the transmission. barely avoiding multiple car accident. there has been several recalls by the manufacturer regarding transmission problems.
I have a 2013 ford focus and had to have a transmission module replacement due to the car intermittently, and with increasing regularity, refusing to start. i was fortunate enough to be in a safe parking lot when this started happening. in the dead of winter this can be a real problem, and depending on traffic conditions it could have been a lot worse. i am mainly filing this because the mechanic who fixed my car said that he had to go pretty far afield to find a new module because the area was (gaston county, nc) was out of them due to the frequency of problems with similar ford models.
2012 hatchback ford focus automatic the vehicle stalls whenever accelerated. it feels as if the computer sends the signal to maintain the speed or speed up but the transmission can not keep up with it, therefore it stalls. it does it when i'm driving on the city street and on the highway, the speed does not relate to when it occurs. in order words, if i am driving at a constant speed for a lapse of time it will still stall and if i need to speed up, for example when making a turn onto a street it will stall or when making a lane change.
I purchased a used 2013 ford focus se from crossroad ford fuquay varina on november 2015. the car was displayed on clearance. (27000 miles). i thought it would be good on gas for travels back and forth to work. yes, it is good on gas. however, the transmission started shuddering and rattling at 10 mph late december 2015. i changed the spark plugs and it seemed to run better. by late january 2016, it begin to shudder/ rattle again. i requested asistance twice by chat on the ford website but no one contacted me. i finally called the dealer who confirmed problems with the tcm, a need for computer reprogramming and clutch issues. ford diagnostic confirmed that it needed a new clutch. it is on back order for 6 to 8 weeks. i was told to continue driving it but the engine reved up on 04/15/16 at a speed of 55mph and the check engine ligh came on. so i scheduled a service visit..today ( 04/18/16) i was told that the engine light was related to the clutch issue. additionally, i was told that cyclinder one was misfiring and i need a new coil pack. i have a 2007 ford fusion sel (234,00 miles), it has been the most reliable car. no problems with the transmisson on the fusion. what happened with the focus? i find it appalling that a 44,000 mile vehicle could have so many problems. i feel that the ford location in fuquay varina, nc knowingly sold this car to me with knowledge of the defects. there are so many complaints by numerous customers about the focus. the dual clutch transmission (dct) is not reliable. fsa title: transmission clutch shudder / transmission input shaft seal warranty extension field service action number: 14m01 fsa title: transmission control module extended warranty coverage field service action number: 14m02
Since purchase i have noticed a shuttering or hesitation with my transmission. i have searched online and noticed many people have had the same issue. when i purchased my car i also bought additional warranty, in which my dealership says will cover the faulty part in my transmission. if i do not use the warranty i receive my money back. i do not believe i should have to pay for a part that many people deem faulty. the selling point at the dealership was the powershift and part of the reason i paid the amount i did. i am not happy people all over the country have this issue and are expected to pay to fix it.
2013 ford focus, bought new, in shop first week of purchase. transmission shuttering and jerking as i pull out in traffic. also dies when in reverse. brought to dealership and they say its normal. its not normal to be out in on coming traffic and not able to move and kids are screaming "go mom go. we are going to get hit." not normal. also software problem. radio won't turn on, phone cell phone wont do anything until i pull over and shut off engine. then it resets. this car has been in shop many times for same issues and they always say its fixed now. but same issues over and over again. been in shop too many time to count. now car is out of warranty and begin repaired under extended warranty. when extended warranty is out i will have to pay out of pocket. this has been by far the worst vehicle in history.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. after shifting into the drive position, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate. in addition, the vehicle jerked forward and the rpms revved without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the clutch module and clutch package failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired twice, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 35,000. the vin was unavailable.
Have been having transmission problems with 2013 ford focus. about 6 months after purchase a rattling noise emerged, this developed into a severe grinding which shakes/jerks the entire car. first visit to dealer for service i was told i need to learn to drive the car and everything was within ford specifications. that said they reprogrammed things and also said there was a minor leak and a part needed to be replaced. this part was back ordered and was told they'd contact me when it was in. after not hearing back took car in for similar problems, again told everything within ford specifications, reprogrammed again and said no parts needed to be replaced. grinding progressed to a point where car would lug back and then jerk forward when switching lower gears (feels like it doesn't catch). took car in for transmission 11/2015, reprogrammed and told clutch needs to be replaced but parts back ordered. contacted dealer today (4 weeks later) to find parts backordered another 6-8 weeks.
I was driving down hwy 144 on flat ground and a notification can not drive up hill came across the screen and then car just stopped no longer moved even though foot was on the gas.. so i put it in park and killed the engine and tried to restart it and it did nothing .. mind you i'm still in the middle of hwy 144 in granbury tx being honked at and flipped off by the people who had to slam on their breaks to keep from hitting me. 3 men and a woman finally stopped and helped push me and and my 9 yr old daughter out of the middle of the hwy .. after 3 hours of tryn to get my car to start i had it towed to the ford house in granbury they were closed so the car sat there for 2 days and when they got in it , it started right up and they drove it so they are telling me nothing is wrong with it.
I purchased my used 2013 ford focus in 2015 with no notice of the potential clutch/powershift recall by the dealer. in december i received the notice of recall and brought it to a dealer. they ran the software fix. it did not fix the clutch shudder, however they removed the open recall off of the safercar.gov site despite my reservations. the dealer was unconcerned, but told me it would take at least 6-8 weeks to get a new clutch and that that should fix the problem. the shudder has gotten so bad that the car is nearly un-driveable and unsafe when i do drive it to work. it shudders and won't upshift and won't accelerate which is very problematic when one is trying to drive in traffic and avoid hurting oneself, other drivers, or pedestrians. i took my complaint to ford motor company as i wanted a loaner car or something until they could fix my car, however they have only given me a case number and told me that there is now no estimated date to get a new clutch for my car. i am now forced to drive an unsafe car as they are unwilling and unable to fix my car or find another solution for me.
Car makes noise. car sluggish when i give gasoline. went to dealer about 5 times before dealer decided i had transmission problem. dealer told me would only repair transmission. waited for part. went back to dealer to say car almost stalled. was applying brakes at the time on highway. out of concern for condition car was in, had car on cruise control to limit sudden application of gas or brake. was on road for about 20 minutes on highway. i worried car would stall and cause accident. dealer later said machine review of my car says it was drivable. advised dealer if it almost stalls, it may stall. dealer said: i will have to wait for part. it has been over 2 months, part not at dealer. latest is that ford corporation advised me part was sent 8 days ago. dealer does not have part. last 3 days dealer does not call back after i left messages to tell me status of part. car is unsafe to drive, need to drive long distance, but i do not want to risk it. waited for part since 12/6/2015. dangerous highway incident was 1/1/2016

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled and lost all power. the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road where the contact waited a few minutes and then restarted the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer who diagnosed and re-calibrated the transmission. the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 29,000. updated 2/4/16 *cn updated 02/16/16*jb
I have had my car into the dealership 6 times with transmission troubles. the first 4 times i brought it in, i kept being told there was nothing wrong with my transmission. it works as designed. i kept having my car shuttering and lack of power, it was extremely noticeable when i needed to accelerate to cross traffic, at times i was afraid my car would not cross traffic in enough time because it would have a lack of power and then it would all of a sudden kick in. on 11/13/15, my car randomly downshifted and the check engine light came on. my car was having trouble engaging the transmission. a few miles down the road, transmission fault appeared on my information center on my dash. i stopped on the side of the road and shut my car off. hoping this would possible let the computer re-sync itself. a few minutes later, i decided to see if i could get my car to a safer place since the shoulder i was on was extremely narrow with 50 mph traffic. as i started to move my car, i got approximately another 100 yards down the road and my information center on my car said my transmission was overheating and i needed to stop, at the same time, my car would no longer engage the transmission. i was able to coast to a safe spot on the side of the road. i called ford roadside assistance and they were not able to assist me. so i called my insurance company. i was stuck on the side of the road for 3.5 hours waiting for a tow truck. i brought my car into the dealership. they were able to look at my car on 11/17/15. they said my car had some old fault codes they removed and that i didn't have the latest update. they said they updated my car and test drove it and everything was running fine. i picked up my car on 11/18/15 in the evening. on the evening of 11/19, my car did the exact same thing it did on 11/13/15. needless to say my car is still sitting at the dealer.
This is a continuing problem with the dps6 clutch/transmission. vehicle will launch in and out of gear while standing or moving. clutch will engage and disengage at will. vehicle will have complete loss of power starting out from a stop resulting in several near misses. clutch will shudder at pull out and between gears and you never know if it will engage or not. this is by far the most dangerous car i have ever owned. you never feel safe and every trip could be your last. ford has been sued over this(and lost) and still will not issue a recall on these cars. every vehicle with this clutch/transmission can be fixed...ford has the new clutch/transmission, we just need them to step up and do the right thing and recall/repurchase these death traps.
The car shifts roughly from 1st to 2nd gear while in motion. it shudders and jerks while trying to pull out into traffic. it also hesitates when accelerating from a stopped position. the vehicle has been brought into the ford dealer multiple times and have been told that this is a typical problem for this car and can not do anything about it. i bought this car for my daughter who is a new driver, based on its safety rating and after owning it for only a couple of months am now faced with this issue. i feel that this is now a safety issue since it affects entering into traffic with a shifting problem.
On 10 nov 15 at 0900hrs i picked up my 2013 ford focus after the replacement of an ignition coil/spark plug and the reprogramming of my transmission control module (ford recall 15b22). at 0930hrs while driving north on hwy 295 at about 40 mph on a straight portion of the highway, all my warning lights turned on and i lost engine power. the vehicle also felt as if it shifted into neutral. i had to use emergency driving procedures to pull onto the shoulder. i attempted to restart the vehicle but the starter did not even attempt to turn over. i called for a wrecker and had the vehicle towed back to the dealership for corrective action. i have not experienced am engine or transmission failure like this in the past. i believe that it may be due to the reprogramming of the transmission control module. it should be noted that the ford focus in question is a canadian version, with 62000km/38000miles to date. i felt compelled to report this incident as it required me to use emergency driving techniques to bring the vehicle to a safe stop (although the brakes continued to function). had i not been trained in those techniques the likelihood of a collision with another vehicle at high speeds would have been likely.
