We have classified the 1052 complaints from 2012 Ford Focus about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Transmission shutters and slips and the power steering just shuts down at times, this is very dangerous. my wife was merging onto the interstate and the steering shuts down the engine still running. she has to shut the car off and start it again to get the power steering to work. this has happened around 10 times.
Clutch was recall and it was replaced by local dealership installed nov 2015, gillette wy, and now transmission gave out, dealership stated that it needs an overhaul.
For the last two years, our vehicle has had several episodes of violently mis-shifting, into a final loss of accelerator use. this happens many times when we are on rural or highway, and at differing speeds of up to 70 mph. we have brought it in for all regular and irregular maintenance to luther north country ford in coon rapids, mn. they first said it was how the "new transmission worked", they then said it was the tcm codes, then the clutch was replaced. then the only time they got codes from the car, we had to pay 1200 dollars because it wasn't part of the recall, but less than a month later, we had the same symptoms. every time they "fix" the problem it happens again, sometimes months apart, most recently it was less than 24 hours after they replaced the clutch. they themselves have admitted they have no idea of how to truly, permanently, make the car safe to drive, but continually allow us to pick it up and drive away. we have trusted them with everything and the assumption that they are giving us a true and honest try when working on our car. now we have applied for lemon law, only to find out that we do not qualify for that because we have trusted the dealer and ford, extending over the warranty/lemon law refund period. my wife just made the last payment on this vehicle, and now (as we have been for some time) we are afraid to drive it, i am used to having to put on the 4 way flashers once a day to pull over when it stops accelerating. if it was something like the washer fluid sprayers didn't work i wouldn't care anymore. but we can't drive it, we can't resell it. we are reasonable people, but feel we've been robbed of 23,000 dollars with no where to turn. what can we do going forward i have every service invoice ever for the history of the car, but i don't have a scanner, i can mail them if needed please.
The vehicle has had issues with the transmission for the past couple years. they started around 28,000 miles. it has been to the dealership 4 times for repairs, including fixing internal components and replacing seals. today i took it again and was told that the clutch assembly has to be replaced and there is a 3 month wait for the necessary parts. the vehicle jerks and sputters when accelerating and has difficulty shifting in low gears in particular. this creates an unpleasant and potentially dangerous driving experience for all involved. after researching today i understand this has been a known issue with this model for years and there has still not been a recall, although there is a class action lawsuit. i find it absurd that my repeated trips to the dealer for repair have only provided for temporary, cosmetic improvements while leaving the known defect in place and that now that they are actively acknowledging the larger problem there is a 3 month wait to have the proper repair performed.
The transmission on my vehicle has failed multiple times while driving the vehicle. while driving at idle speeds, the car shakes. the transmission failed while i was turning in an intersection and stalled. it then lurched forward and continued to function in a lurching and jerky manner. just yesterday, i could not slow the car while traveling at 50 mph, despite pressing the brakes, due to the erratic behavior of the transmission. this lurching, jerking, erratic behavior is extremely dangerous and could potentially be deadly. i have had the transmission worked on a total of three times. each time, the dealership told me that the problem would be fixed. this is highly irresponsible for ford to ignore this issue and continue to put customers in harms way. this is an inappropriate way to handle a life-threatening issue.
I have had transmission problems shortly after i purchased the car. it has had seals, clutch tmc replaced and also a instrument control panel at my expense since they said i was out of my 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. i had the car at the dealership several times without receiving any paperwork only to be told transmission was fine and that's just the way the new cvt transmission shifts. car has always has a heistation on take off role backwards on inclines and shudders like crazy! my wife who owns a 2014 ford escape refuses to drive the car complaining she doesn't feel safe in it. just took it back to ford week of feburary 1st and they are now telling me the seals and clutch need to be replaced at a cost of $1500.00 to me as it is out of warranty. the clutch was replaced in november of last year at 93,000 miles. i drive 480 miles round trip a week to work not including grand kids sporting events. i feel ford has sold me a car and now want to punish me for the miles i drive. i have some paperwork from the dealership on what work they have done. someone please make the dealship and ford motor company responsible for this poor quality transmission they are passing repair cost on the consumer which should be ashamed of and allowed to do.
Happening intermittently after a complete stop, highway city and residential roadways the transmission exhibits what appears to be slippage causing a delay of the vehicle to move and accelerate in a manner that i would consider to be safe. this behavior goes back to 06/2012 at that time my transmission clutches were replaced and now again the same problem is happening. after taking the vehicle in for service on 02/01/2016 i made the dealership rep aware and was told it would be looked into. after picking up my vehicle i was told that the "transmission was operating normally at this time" i was also told that ford has an acceptable amount of slippage considered acceptable and my vehicle was considered "normal" i again explained that this defect occurred intermittently so a tech was not likely to encounter it in a test drive. i do consider this behavior a safety concern and this is the reason that i am filing this report.
Since purchased new, every 15k-20k transmission failure. 5x changes, now at 85k same issue, transmission jerks hard, doesn't shift. in addition, even with the extended warranty, they are claiming part of the clutch system is not actually covered only a portion of it.
This is for the selectshift transmission. my vehicle has had multiple transmission shuddering issues in the past, once in 2013, and then again in oct of 2014. the issues were "resolved", but on jan 27th, my transmission jumped and my check engine light came on. jan 28th, my transmission stopped working all together while driving on the highway, almost causing an accident. the transmission disengaged and would not engage with the car decelerating to a stop. the transmission control module failed this time, and the clutches were supposed to be replaced as well. the clutches were not replaced like they were promised and i am awaiting for them to get scheduled and sent in. i do not feel safe driving this vehicle.
Ongoing issue ' on acceleration car shudders, bogs down, jumps forward, also hear a grinding/crunching sound. i have had my car in to the dealer numerous times and i am always told this is normal. i have written to ford and they refuse to correct the problem. in regard to the question below ' when did this happen? ' it has been happening since i bought the car in 2012 but since i was not able to enter that into the box i entered the last date i brought it in to the dealer for this issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. when placing the clutch in reverse, the vehicle failed to move. the failure recurred twice. the engine warning light illuminated. in addition, while driving 60 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate and stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 25,300.
I have been having transmission issues with my 2012 ford focus. we purchased the car brand new off the lot it had 4 miles on it when purchased. not even a year after purchase we started having issues with the gears not wanting to shift properly. we sent car to dealership for repair. it was fixed for a while up until recently and we have been trying to get it fixed since. i got into a wreck because my car bogged out at a redlight causing me to get stuck under a redlight and being hit while occupying the road. my car has been at dealership ever since. they called us about one week after the wreck to let me know that the recall for the transmission module had been fixed and they drove it and everything checked out fine. so my husband goes and gets the car and it breaks down on him not far from leaving the dealership. the car just completely quit shifting and bogged out and rpm shot up way high. he had to leave on the side of the road. so here goes trip 3 back to dealership for repairs for the same thing that has supposed to had been fixed. why has the government issued a recall on the transmission for these cars. they are not safe to drive. something needs to be done.
Since september 2014, the transmission has shuddlers, and shakes violenly, while the vehicle accelerates, deaccelerates or even in reverse. the transmission is extremely loud while the vehicle is either drive or reverse as well. my vehicle has been taken to four different ford dealers at five different for this issue and yet this problem has not repaired. since september 2014 to present the vehicle issues has worsen by increased excessive noise levels and the drivability as well.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle began to decelerate unexpectedly while driving on the interstate at 65 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was safe to drive. days after the failure, the key was inserted in the ignition and the transmission malfunction and check engine warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not returned to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 84,000. updated 04/20/16*lj *cn
Focus has been under many recalls and at ford for repair multiple times for transmission. every 6 months issues occur causing me to take back into ford. last couple weeks i noticed intermittently, when i take foot off accelorator, rpms continue to increase, and car does not slow down, causing me to pump breaks multiple times to be able to stop. yesterday during a snow storm, i again took foor off accelerator, this time the car again would still continue to drive without my control, causing me to spin out, not once but three times. i did not get hit by other cars as everyone was going slow, but i did have to call into work as my car was not safe to drive. this is now a safety concern for my focus, and myself, and my paycheck. something has to give as ford, has offered nothing but to keep bringing it back when issues occur. this is not appropriate customer service, and i feel there is a huge safety concern for my vehicle.
Clutch slipping; 60200 miles on the car. clutch is slipping as was confirmed by my mechanic. the clutch has to replaced and ford will not fix it. no reason the clutch should need to be replaced this soon. i have had other manual vehicles where the clutch lasted 150k or even 190k miles. clearly a faulty design and or product. buyer beware
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle vibrated and jerked forward when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle was taken to be repaired, but the issue recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 30,000. updated 09/06/16*lj the consumer stated the vehicle hesitated at low rpm's upon take off. updated 09/08/16.*jb
My car has been shuttering and jerking and shaking does not shift into gears and the car dropped and will accelerate by its self . this is an ongoing issue since i bought the car in 2014
The car just starts making a grinding noise and the gears slip out of place
I purchased my car in june 2012. i have had to replace the clutch three times due to issues. i have had to have the roof liner reinstalled as it had come loose. now, only a month after the $700 repair for the roof, i am now told to pay $950 to repair my brake booster which as broken and messed up the primary shaft. my car has less than 30,000 miles on it and is only 3.5 years old, yet seems to be falling apart now that it is out of warranty. i asked if i had done anything to cause the brake booster to fail, and was told "no, it is just a mechanical failure," that i have to pay for because it is out of warranty. i was also told that there was no way that the mechanics could have seen the issue, even though it mysteriously started less than 2 weeks after i had it in the shop for over a week. after getting the roof liner and clutch reinstalled i was told that they had also updated all of the software in my car. a little over a week later the check engine light came on as i was stopped at a red light. i thought it was a software glitch as the light turned off when i started driving again. it happened once more about a week or so later, but it was at the same stoplight, so i thought it may be the particular angle of the car at that light or something, but resolved to take it in if it happened again. i was gone for 2 weeks for christmas break, then when i came back the low brake fluid light came on every time i was stopped for more than 30 seconds. i stopped driving my car until i could get it into the shop. so, with less than a month of driving my car since it was last in the shop, apparently $950 in damage was done that, while not my fault "could not have been avoided" and is something i have to pay for if i want my car to be safe to drive.
Powter train tcm module; replaced on 8/4/15 with 49427 miles. vehicle would not shift out of gear. along with hesitation while driving in residential area. vehicle was brought to ford dealership and the tcm was found defective. module was replaced and programmed to latest "standards" .on 1/4/2015 power train tcm module replaced with 55488 miles. car worked fine the day prior then would not start the following morning in garage. removed battery and had it tested at auto store and it tested good. vehicle had to be jumped to start. then warning came on dash showed transmission failure have service. brought vehicle to ford dealership and found that tcm module was bad. service dept also stated that the battery would have to be replaced due to bad cell. the battery was tested earlier in the week and found to be properly charged. ok'd the battery replacement then was notified the starter was now bad. service attendant did not directly admit to the tcm module causing these other issues but advised to keep all receipts due to class action against ford. attendant also stated that some vehicles have had the tcm replaced 3-5 times. warranty has only been extended to 100,00 miles
I bought my vehicle in 2015. 2 months after i bought the car i was driving on the highway and the car shuts off. it was towed and fixed by ford stating there was a recall for the computer system. as time went on the vehicle would stall and jerk switching out of gears. when i took it to ford they stated i needed a new transmission but it wasn't the part covered under the warranty. in october i was driving and the indicator comes on stating transmission hot. the car from there would not reverse. i was in a different state on vacation and had to take the vehicle to a local shop due to ford not being able to see the car for a week. it was stated the vehicles transmission was gone and i would need a new one. i spent over $1900 on a rebuilt transmission only for the car to still be slipping in and out of gears. if i am making a turn the car stalls and jerks before it picks up.
Car jerks and bucks when proceeding from stop to accelerating. it's been doing this for the last year or so and seems to be getting worse. i have only 25000 miles on the car.
Transmission shutters and slips when hot or when going up steep hills. transmission will not downshift when pressing harder on gas pedal.
I can spend the remainder of my day regurgitating all the issues those that have proceeded me have detailed or say this. i purchased the 2012 ford focus titanium (with everything) it's a great car on the inside and the engine for a 4 cylinder kicks @$$ since 2012 it has had major repair or replacement (not just software updates x3) 4 times.... that's right 4 major transmission issues, 1 new transmission and several rebuilds. this transmission issue will ensure i never buy a ford again...!!!! final straw christmas 2015 driving down the street looking at the lights enjoying the cold weather, holidays, etc. car slams (i mean literally we were thrown forward and our seat-belts locked in place) and the awesome sync screen displayed "seek immediate transmission repair"... family and i spent the remainder of the christmas holiday in a rental. only to be told "glad that did not happen to ya on the highway huh, it was only the transmission control unit that needed to be replaced" imagine what would have happened if i had been at speed on the highway!!! wtf?
Tcm failure, uphill assist failure, no start.
The engine dies while driving and now will crank but won't start. the transmission shutters when taking off from a start.
I am having issues with the transmission in my vehicle. it has been in the shop 30 days now waiting to have it's 3rd transmission since birth. it has had two reprograms of the module as well. this car is unsafe and dangerous to drive. it shudders and shifts terribly. it seems to want to start in third or fourth gear many times, exposing me to danger when pulling out into the highway. this car needs to be bought back. i had the trans replaced in oct of 14 and it made it a whole 14 months before needing to be replaced again. the regional customer service manager will not do anything but "expedite" parts that are already on backorder and the service manager at our dealership says are faulty anyway. ford can't seem to make this work and i am paying the price. there are significant issues on this make of car by multiple owners. it's time they were forced to but these pieces of junk back.
Car has continuously shuddered when trying to shift between gears. at times the car will almost come to a complete stop as if it can not find what gear it needs to be in to move forward. happens in all scenarios, cold weather, warm weather, and at all speeds. more recently car has failed to start and shudders have become more violent when driving.
Parking aid malfunction error: while driving 65 mph on a 3 lane hwy, the parking aid malfunction error appeared which caused the car to completely shutdown. fortunately i was able to coast to the side of the road with no power steering, no power brakes without engine power. pam message kept appearing and car would not start. vehicle had to be towed to dealer. ford is aware of this problem and fixed the vehicle under warranty via tsb# 15-0101 3068 w40. ford even extended the warranty for the transmission control module to 10 years 150,000 miles. to have a car completely shutdown while driving 65mph on a 3 lane highway is very dangerous and life threatening. especially on a highway with cars whizzing by at 60-70 mph. why isn't this tcm problem under recall? does someone have to be killed before any action is taken?
I purchased my 2012 ford focus on sept. 25, 2012. i have had problems with the transmission and clutch ever since purchasing. on 7/16/13 ford performed a computer adjustment on the transmission. on 7/9/14 ford installed a new clutch in the car. on 9/17/15 they reprogrammed the transmission. ford claims that the problems with shuttering on acceleration are normal operations for the car. they have also extended the warranty on the transmission because "on your vehicle, it may be possible for the powershift 6-speed automatic transmission to exhibit excessive transmission clutch shudder during light acceleration. this condition may be caused by fluid contamination of the clutch due to leaking transmission seals." they extended the warranty on the car to a 7 year 100,000 mile warranty for the transmission only. on 12-11-15 i was driving my car on very busy four lane road. i came to a stop at a red light, while attempting to turn left. when i tried to accelerate from the red light my car would not shift from first to second gear. the car would only accelerate to around 15 mph, the speed on the road was 45 mph. once i hit 15 mph the engine would just rev but the car would not accelerate or shift gears. i had to stop in the middle of the left lane and turn off the vehicle. after restarting the vehicle, it would shift from first to second gear with heavy shuddering. upon taking my car to ford for the 4th time they said that the clutch failed and that they needed a new clutch. this will be the second new clutch that that they have put on the car. the car currently has about 22,000 miles. this vehicle is unsafe to drive and ford is unable to find an appropriate fix for the problem. they are aware of the problems and have extended the warranty on the car but are not able to correct this issue. this car should be recalled due to the transmission issues.
The automatic clutch shutter, slips, and causes a very jerky ride. transmission does not seem to be in the right gear a lot of the time.
I purchased a 2012 focus in 2012 in dallas with 7,000 miles on it. since the very beginning the transmission shutters upon leaving a red light. i took it back and ford told me it was normal for that model until they came up with a new transmission programming. it was very alarming. i have taken the car to ford 4 times for the same issue that seemed to be getting worse. then in march 2015 they came up with the computer reprogramming for the transmission. i took it another 3 times for them to finally decide to reprogram it on my car although it was a recall. finally, when we thought this would solve the problem, the transmission stopped working the week that they performed the update. now they are quoting us with $2,200 for a new clutch to be put in a faulty transmission by design. there are several class action lawsuits out there for that transmission. they also told us it was not under warranty. they supposedly sent a "customer satisfaction program" for the clutch in august 2014 to fix the issue that now hit us due to their faulty transmission. however, this letter was never sent to us. we have received every single letter from them but that one and now the car is over the 100,000 mile limit of that customer satisfaction program. we would think that upon our 7 visits for that issue that someone in service would have mentioned that they can fix it for free. ford has been in complete denial of this transmission issue and will not fix the safety issue that they created although they had the chance to at more than one occasion. the car is no longer operable past first gear and 15mph. 7 visits in which they ignored the danger that we were presenting them...while they perfectly knew a recall was available for it.
I continue to have transmission problems and i'm concerned that the problem involves other systems. i feel their needs to a complete recall on the powertrain and also an extended warranty offered.
For the fifth time in only eight months, the transmission has malfunctioned in this vehicle, causing it to stop accelerating or stall. it is a safety hazard, as it has happened on the highway twice and has been on the street in motion the remaining three times. each time we have taken it to the shop at the owner's expense and it has required towing each time because it no longer accelerates. the transmission sensors (there are two) continue to misfire and fail, despite being replaced several times. this car was bought new in 2012 and has had issues since the purchase. we have two children and another is due at the end of january and i do not feel safe driving this car, as it has almost been the result of several accidents when it stalls and shudders.
The dual clutch transmission was rebuilt less than a year ago after the clutches began to badly slip. had noticed the trans slip some around town but car was okay to drive. on a weekend trip to the mountains it began to slip so badly that i did not know if i would make it back to town. apparently the strain on the trans from all the hilly city driving compounded the already existing problem that was of no concern back home on regular terrain. now the trans is displaying some of those slipping characteristics again. i was planning another mountain excursion but am now afraid to do so. i cannot afford to buy another car nor can i afford to put confidence in my car on any such trip out of town. this car should last me many trouble free years of operation at least as far as the transmission is concerned. i am trapped with a car that will probably be back in the repair shop before long. not to mention that i see where many focus owners are having multiple repair jobs for the same reason. i love the car but am thoroughly dismayed that a long term fix does not seem to be attainable.
Owned car for 2 years, in shop 5 times so far for dct issues. car is completely unpredictable and going to cause me to get in an accident! sometimes i hit the acceleration and it lurches forward unexpectedly causing me almost to rear end someone. other times i hit the gas expecting it to go and i get a really sluggish response to the point where i'm scared another vehicle will hit me, so i will floor it trying to get it to move, this will result in the back wheels locking up and fish tailing! i have had at least six moments in this week where the car responded unexpectedly and made me think i was going to get in an accident. tonight in rush hour i was maintaining a speed of about 20 mph, the car decided to downshift and send more forward a few yards. i want so badly to get rid of this car as i have a baby, but i'm very upside down on it. i have various warranties but have been warned by ford that they are a "one time get out of jail free card" and if the car comes in for the same repair it previously had it will no longer be under warranty! this is horrible, my car is constantly in the shop for the same transmission issue!
After driving for 40 mins, the check engine light came on. i was in stop and go traffic and from stop (0 mph) to 30 mph the transmission would downshift violently and stall. i would give it gas, but the car would not move and the engine would rev up and lunge forward violently causing cars to almost hit me in the rear. i put in a similar complaint a few years ago about a shuttering when accelerating from a stop after 40 + mins of driving. this is unacceptable for a car company to allow this car out on the streets.
Power-shift 6 speed transmission. erratic clutch changes, grinding, hesitation, unwanted gear changes is heavy traffic lower gas mileage. after 3 software updates (january 2013, december 2014, august 2014, nov 2015), and a parts clutch replacement (december 2014), the car still does not run properly. car worked fine for a few days, then went back to the same problem. ford admits that the focus clutch assembly is defective and on 12 november, 2015, ford agreed to replace it. however, i am in the 10th week of waiting, and still no clutch. i must use my vehicle and it is getting worse every week. ford says there is no recall, only a software update. i have noticed that the internet is filled with other focus owners with the same problem. even the mechanics at my ford dealer feel the cars are getting more dangerous as they age. my wife is afraid to drive the car and i have begun to use the manual shift option instead of the drive option.
Transmission is erratic, you do not know what it might do. it has a shuttering sound coming from underneath the vehicle when going 20-40 miles per hour. drivers side window does not open and have 'information' light is on for low pressure on tires and aren't currently low. brakes are making a growling noise when coming to a stop.
The transmission is shuttering and the cars does not accelerate. the transmission stopped working on tuesday. was on the expressway and the transmission quit while car was going 50mph. i have been told numerous times by ford employees that this is how the car works. shuttering, not accelerating, stalling out. car is currently at dealership. i was given the timeframe of 3-4 weeks to be fixed, the best timeframe of the 4 dealerships i called. 59,800 miles on the car.
Transmission bucks, shutters, lags, lurches and slips. often creates a serious safety concern. i almost hit people in a crosswalk one day when i tried to roll forward a few feet to the stop line on the street and the vehicle lurched forward. i have been pulling out in to traffic several times where it lags or slips and i've almost been hit. ford tells me this is all normal.
Takata inflators: this vehicle in the "drive gear" lunges when gas is pressed and quickly takes off at the slightest press of gas making for a dangerous take off from stop lights and traffic signs while on major roadways. this vehicle when placed in the "park gear" jerks when placed in park and feels as if it will roll backwards while in parking lots or home driveway. the vehicle has been reported multiple times to ford dealer for assessment and/or repair as "shaking" and "shimmies" while driving, to prevent this feeling, the emergency brake is used often. once, the vehicle actually rolled backwards in the the "drive" gear but was identified as a defect and repaired by a ford dealer. when placed in "drive" at that time it was showing on the dash as in "park". this too was corrected by ford dealer by replacing tcm. although repairs have been made to this vehicle since purchase, it continues to often shake and shimmy appearing to continue to have issues. as owner, i was not notified of the latest recall part prior to my warranty expiring which may have further resolved some of the lingering issues. tcm has been replaced, the clutch replaced more than once,or tcm reprogrammed during multiple visits to the ford dealer.
Vehicle has been in for service 6 times for the same transmission issues: dragging, bucking, loss of acceleration. i had a clutch replaced on nov. 4th and after only driving 100 miles i lost all transmission power to the car and was stranded roadside. the ford dealer service manager said ford is aware of the issues and none of the repairs will correct the problem.the warranty is only extended until 100,000 miles and then out of pocket will occur. the car is unsafe and just stops in the middle of driving. ford just makes the sane fixes and states the car is suppose to drive this way. cars just don't stop running mid acceleration and jerk so hard the car bucks.
Purchased vehicle 6 months ago from auto nation ford union city, ga. first there was a problem with tire, then there is a problem with " brake lamp" then there is a major problem with " transmission malfunction". car would not accelerate and stopped in mid traffic. auto nation "said" they repaired as a result of recall, but i drove the car 8 hours after i picked it up from auto nation and car still having the same " transmission malfunction" problem, i could not accelerate, and car stopped on highway. in addition, the " brake lamp" message also flashed on the dash. i took car back to the dealer where it remains with auto nation ford, union city, ga. the car is unsafe to drive. furthermore, please investigate the dishonest service and sales practices at this dealership
Vehicle transmission has been repaired under warranty at around 26000 miles for leaking, and again at 56000 miles for a bulletin (not a recall, it had time/mileage parameters). the most recent service, for the bulletin, was a reprogram of the tcm. following this work, vehicle slips in and out of gear, seizing up on hills in both directions (uphill and downhill), and stopping the car. this has happened on multiple occasions: five, to be specific, all this year: on a busy freeway interchange ramp and on four occasions while turning in an intersection. when this happens, the car cannot be moved, the gear shift sticks and cannot be moved, and the key cannot be removed from the ignition. the vehicle transmission has been running "rough" since the reprogram. it grinds, shudders, and lurches. note: the first time the vehicle seized up was before the reprogramming, and the other times were all since this work was done. on all of the occasions where this has happened, the vehicle slowed to an abrupt halt and i was nearly rear-ended. in the instance where the key has been stuck, waiting a few minutes (more than 5 but less than 10) has allowed me to cycle the key and re-start the vehicle, and then it was mobile again. i should note that the downhill assist dash light and the downhill assist feature (operated by a button on the gearshift) both come on without the button being touched or even pressed. a vehicle suddenly and abruptly slowing to a stop on a freeway interchange at speed is in my opinion a serious safety concern. please also note that the vehicle has a history of sudden lurches forward while braking and the transmission has bogged down on other occasions in the past, but nowhere near as frequently as it did once i passed about 48000 miles.
Transmission/ clutch has always given us problems. we have been in for repairs more times then i can count for seals on the clutch, reprogramming after reprogramming and replacing the clutch itself. it still shudders lurches and does not drive safely. i have tried to get help and given up a thousand times over the three years i have owned the car. thank god it hasn't gotten me killed yet. clutch gave out again the other day and it buck and jerked harder than it ever has. i pulled out in front of someone and could not accelerate for a whole 1 min. was getting ready with my flashers to pull over then it bucked and rolled enough to get to my house... i'm now past the ford extended warranty... $1700 quote from the dealer to replace a defective part that will most likely fail again within the year. how can they continue to try and cover up this issue??
2015 ford focus. consumer writes in regards to power shift dual clutch automatic transmission and engine failure. *ld *js
My car has shuddered since i bought it . it also did the roll back issues as well. it has been into the ford dealership 3 times now for this issue and it is still not resolved. the car has only 60,000 miles on it. it slips gears, struggles to get up hills, struggles to get going at lights, struggles in traffic when ideling, and shudders. i called ford to complain at first they seemed interested. they would follow up with me after the latest reprogramming. well the reprogramming was completed and it still does the same things as before. ford's response well give it a few days. i asked when they would follow up since i just told you it is not fixed what is the next step. their response call us when it happens again and closed my case. they need to fix the problem and take responsibility for the problem. i am waiting for my transmission to completely fail since it struggles to shift into gears. this is a major safety issue and the car is a lemon.
Transmission shudders, skips, cannot find the right gear. this is a real hazard as my wife and kids pulled into traffic and almost got hit. it has been in to the dealership multiple times and all ford can do is flash the software? we now have about 41k miles and they still can't/won't fix it. these cars are a real hazard and i honestly don't know why a recall hasn't been performed. there are numerous documented problems. we actually own another 2012 focus and it has been fine-except the tcm suddenly went out (no prior significant shuddering). since the tcm was replaced (after being stranded) it shifts smoothly. the focus with the original tcm still has lots of problems and they simply will flash the software and call it fixed. ford is also delaying as many repairs as they can because demand is so high. i suppose we have to wait for somebody to die before a recall is performed?
