Recently i've had an issue with the starter. the dash stated the car battery was low, i have the car taken to a local mechanic where the battery is testing that it is good. the car will start in the mornings after resting and i don't drive as much as just to be safe while i try to figure out what's going on with this car. i've had this car fixed three times in the past year, once for the customer survey satisfaction (not a recall ford told me) to have the transmission fixed, another to have the steering module replaced and a third time to have the clutches replaced and that was done by a dealership to stop the lurching and jerking that the car does. i'm amazed at the callousness of a company that completely ignores the pleas of people who have almost crashed in their vehicles! no regard for their consumers what so ever!! i promise this will be the first & last ford vehicle that i ever buy.
Power steering failure- started with everyonce in a while id get the error notice of power steering failure so i would turn off the car start it back up and fine, it started to happen more frequently to the imbarrassing point of having to turn on and off the car 5-10 times just to have power steering, then i got a letter to update my car's software to help fix the power steering issue, i got the software update and 3 months later total failure, i now have zero power steering and now ford wants me to pay $2200 to fix it, when it failed i almost crashed into another car with my kids in my car on the freeway, needless to say we are greatful to be alive, sad thing is all other models from 2011-2012 with the same exact power steering system get a recall why not the focus? i wish i would have known before i would have never bought the car, ford is a scam and doesnt back up its product, the power steering is broke because of their defective product
At 58,000. horn started to work intermittent, now it does not work at all. what next? already had work done on tranny. every thing seems to be computer related. it also surges at start up at stop.
The horn has stopped working after 31000 miles, the relay and fuse have both been checked and are still good. i noticed it when i locked my car, and then when i pressed the panic button there was no sound as well as when i pressed the horn button. the horn should not be out on any car after only 30k miles, these cars seem to be wired badly which is a shame.

2012 ford focus. divers side door latch did not secure and car door opened while vehicle in motion and jeapordazied the safety of my son. after several attempts to secure door it was unsuccessful. notified ford motor company and they advised no recall at the moment for such issue. can only replace latch for cost of $640.00 dollars. i most recently took my 2013 ford fusion with the same issue and a recall was issued and door latch replaced,
Driver side rear door won't latch. car was parked at the grocery store, and i opened the door to load groceries into car. when i closed the door, instead of latching, it bounced back out. i couldn't get it to latch at all. my 17 year old child had to sit in the back and hold the door closed to get home. it still won't latch, so i will have to have it fixed.
The driver side door opened while i was driving, and now will not latch at all.
For three years from 2013 to current i reported my car having intermittent electrical issues where my power steering would just fail and my speedometer would cease to function this could happen while driving or stationary.... i reported this to ford and over the course of three years had the issue inspected but they could not resolve the issue.. now the car is out of warranty but say it is due to faulty censors.
Loud static sounds coming from dash. happens intermittently. extremely loud. today can smell burnt electrical smell in passenger compartment. the static noise seems to happen when car is parked or just after parking vehicle and engine is still running.
In 2012 i purchased the vehicle from future ford in sacramento california. over the past four years, the car has problems with the transmission, pcm module, transmission control module, clutch, starter, steering wheel, electrical system. i took the car to two ford dealerships for repairs. the service technicians cannot repair the car. i contacted ford motor company many times and they refuse to refund my money and recall the vehicle the car is very dangerous to drive and a risk to my life and safety. updated 07/19/16*lj *cn

Loud static sounds coming from dash. happens intermittently. extremely loud. today can smell burnt electrical smell in passenger compartment. the static noise seems to happen when car is parked or just after parking vehicle and engine is still running.
Ford focus recall. car lost all acceleration while driving about 10mph in traffic but electrical stayed on. luckily it was traffic and i was able to coast to the roadside. happened first in november 2015, dealer said it was battery dying. happened again april 27 2016. now they're saying it's transmission electrical issues.
Radio has popping and cracking its really loud may catch on fire.
Steering freezes, makes a very dangerous moment, door window doesn't suddenly work. feel a recall should be in effect, chosen states have a recall on the steering, but not in texas, i'm a senior citzen, living off gove. benitfits , can't afford the price to fix, the vehicle was stationary, and one time in motion.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving 30 mph, the doors on the vehicle locked and unlocked automatically and the tcm light illuminated. the contact stated that the failures occurred after the vehicle was repaired under a manufacturer recall for a system update. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 69,817.
I was having issues with the electrical problem the horn went out for a period of time also the radio is not workingas well as the airbags did not deploy when i was recently in a vehicle accident i am lucky to be alive.i was making a left hand turn onto a road and was hit from the side the impact was enough to make my engine dismount but my airbags did not deploy.
Driver side door will not shut. opened door and tried to shut it but will not stay closed. driver side door swings open when driving. took it to a ford dealership and they have heard of the problem on multiple occaisions.
Went to start my 2012 ford focus se on 3/3/16 and immediately received a message stating "power steering malfunction". the steering wheel felt like it locked up and was very difficult to turn. thank goodness i was in my driveway and not on the road with my kids in the car! we were able to get the car to apple ford in columbia md where they ran diagnostics and said we need to replace the the steering rack, which will cost $1,950!! after reading the forums, complaints and pending lawsuits online, it is clear that this is a common issue where several models are being recalled. my vin has not been associated with that recall, but i'm desperately hoping that it will soon. this is an electric issue causing the power steering to fail, and it's happening to so many ford owners. please take action!
My vehicle lost all power in regards to acceleration and deceleration on the freeway at the speed of around 40-45 mph. i had to coast over two lanes and almost got rear-ended. the rpm would rev up but no power. restarted car and problem went away. next day had tcm flashed as part of recall. two days later had the same issue only going 60-65 on freeway. transmission went haywire and had to coast over and almost got rear-ended again. this time car wouldn't restart for about 2 min. no power. engine revving and complete loss of power twice and i feel this car is a major accident waiting to happen. i do not feel safe while driving not knowing why my car is losing power even after the so called software fix.
While driving the radio made a loud crack and stopped working. after researching this problem i discovered many others with the same problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving approximately 10 mph, the instrument panel lights failed to illuminate and the radio failed to operate without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was determined that a software update was needed. the vehicle was not repaired. eventually, the instrument panel lighting illuminated again. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 68,000.
Windshield wipers turned on to without commanded input from the wiper control stalk. wipers operated at various output settings (high, low, and intermittent) with the car ignition position in either the on or off position. these events happens while driving and parked. clear day with outside air temperature of about 70f.
I drive a 2012 ford focus. i bought the car used in january 2015. in the fall of 2015 my car began jolting every time i put pressure on the gas, this was alarming. when it became worse, i bought the car to a ford dealership, and came to find that the transmission was recalled. to fix this ford had a strict protocol to fix the transmission in a 3 step process. the mechanics are only told to do step 1, and then if the problem persists months after the repair, continue with step 2 and so on. the transmission started jolting again a few months later, this time worse. i have been waiting a month for the ford dealership to get that part that will "fix" my problem, while i was assured the problem would not get worse. in that time a piece in the exhaust has also been recalled, neither one of my windows in the front two seats will go down, and the jolting has become incredibly unsafe. there have been two occasions where my car has just come to a completely alarming stop while driving up to 20 mph, on a busy two lane street. i take this street everyday to and from work. there is no other option. i avoid the highway completely now. i feel completely unsafe and on guard at all times while i am driving this vehicle. because of my experience wth this car in only a year i will never purchase a ford vehicle ever again. i regret ever driving it off of the lot. i am only 25 years old, and can't afford to trade this in right now, and that is all i want to do. it is not a nice feeling to have a pit in your stomach every time you buckle your seatbelt.
I bought my vehicle in 2015. 2 months after i bought the car i was driving on the highway and the car shuts off. it was towed and fixed by ford stating there was a recall for the computer system. as time went on the vehicle would stall and jerk switching out of gears. when i took it to ford they stated i needed a new transmission but it wasn't the part covered under the warranty. in october i was driving and the indicator comes on stating transmission hot. the car from there would not reverse. i was in a different state on vacation and had to take the vehicle to a local shop due to ford not being able to see the car for a week. it was stated the vehicles transmission was gone and i would need a new one. i spent over $1900 on a rebuilt transmission only for the car to still be slipping in and out of gears. if i am making a turn the car stalls and jerks before it picks up.
Parking aid malfunction error: while driving 65 mph on a 3 lane hwy, the parking aid malfunction error appeared which caused the car to completely shutdown. fortunately i was able to coast to the side of the road with no power steering, no power brakes without engine power. pam message kept appearing and car would not start. vehicle had to be towed to dealer. ford is aware of this problem and fixed the vehicle under warranty via tsb# 15-0101 3068 w40. ford even extended the warranty for the transmission control module to 10 years 150,000 miles. to have a car completely shutdown while driving 65mph on a 3 lane highway is very dangerous and life threatening. especially on a highway with cars whizzing by at 60-70 mph. why isn't this tcm problem under recall? does someone have to be killed before any action is taken?
Transmission is erratic, you do not know what it might do. it has a shuttering sound coming from underneath the vehicle when going 20-40 miles per hour. drivers side window does not open and have 'information' light is on for low pressure on tires and aren't currently low. brakes are making a growling noise when coming to a stop.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a loss of power and the software update warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the technician refused to repair it due to a salvaged title. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v643000 (latches/locks/linkages), but the parts to do the repair were unavailable. the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the failure mileage was 80,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.
I have had the horn fail to operate several times, the panic mode somehow gets triggered and when i can finally stop the horn from blowing, the horn will not function under normal conditions afterward. it presents a very dangerous situation to deal with.
I have a problem with the clock spring, connects power to the steering wheel controls, cruise control, sync, and more importantly the air bag. i have already had the clock spring replaced 2 times, i need it replaced again. driving down the highway the cruise control will just shut off at times, i can be in the middle of a lot of traffic. my biggest concern is that the airbag may not work if i am in a crash. ford says they don't have a clock spring problem, but again i need it replaced for the third time. i have problems with cruise control many times per day.
I purchased a ford focus may of 2014, with 30,000 miles on it. i had a factory warranty up to 60,000 miles on it. i am now at 62,000 miles on my car and the latch on my driver side door broke and my door flew open while driving on the freeway at 70 mph. if i were not wearing my seatbelt, i would have flown out of my car to my death! since then, i have had to bungie my front doors shut, leaving me no access to get in and out of my car safely, having to crawl in my backseat. i need this fixed asap and i am not paying to get it fixed with so many fords breaking down.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. within two weeks of purchasing the vehicle, it failed to start and the key was not recognized in the ignition. also, the 6 speed automatic transmission failed to shift appropriately and the contact had to turn the vehicle off and back on due to the failure. there was also a sudden loss of eps and the steering assist fault warning indicator flashed. the vehicle became difficult to steer intermittently. the dealer (dave knapp ford lincoln, 500 wagner ave, greenville, oh 45331, (800) 717-3673) was unable to diagnose the cause of the failures. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v643000 (latches/locks/linkages) and two manufacturer service campaigns (transmission clutch shudder/transmission input shaft seal - 14m01, transmission control module extended coverage). the failure mileage was not available. parts distribution disconnect. updated 08/03/17*lj
Shuttering, no power to wheels, very slow and suddenly engaging, excessive clutch slip, lost reverse. engine light came on. i was trying to cross traffic, at the stop sign i proceeded to go across traffic to the median turn lane. car would not engage gear, when it did it was very slow and no power even with gas mashed to the floor. all this time i had cars approaching me from the south bound lane, very dangerous and scary. i then decided to just make a right hand turn and get off the road, which was hard because the electronic power steering assist in this car went out months ago with still no recall on this defect. i turned right down a side street and tried to turn around only to find out i have no reverse gear now, i am so over this lemon of a car. buyers beware, stay far far away from ford products especially this model car. ford touts that they are committed to safety, i find that hilarious. why on earth would you let a vehicle with the track record this model has with steering going out and transmissions just quitting when they want to, to still be on the road? a life threatening danger to the driver as well as anyone that is sharing the road with the vehicle. the next day, engine light gone, car shifts normal?????? vehicle is at ford now, they have a recall to re-program the transmission control module?
I have a 2012 ford focus sel sedan. i was removing some items from the back seat and upon closing the right-hand rear door the door would not latch. tried locking the door remotely before closing. no effect. tried jogging the door latch mechanism to see if it was stuck somehow. no effect. i have to tie a string to the door handle from the inside around the front passenger headrest in order to keep the door closed! to add insult to injury, the front-passenger door latch mechanism failed less than a week ago! a replacement part is on order for it from my local ford dealer. fortunately, the front door will stay closed if it is locked before closing it, but this is still a ridiculous component failure.
My car only has 4500 miles! the cars transmission is junk! the car is not safe to drive period! there is a recall on the transmission! on the city streets, i have ruined two 700 wheels trying to park on a hill! the car will not hold in drive or reverse! i had a highway patrol car behind me at a light, i was going right, there was a slight upgrade. when i took my foot off the gas the car rolled backwards in drive, and hit the highway patrol car! he pulled me over with his mic. "driver pull to the right and stop! driver, turn off your car and put your hands out side the window! had his hand on his gun! thought i was drunk? i told him that the car rolls in drive and reverse! i tried twice to have ford buy back this dangerous car! the highway patrol officer believed me and told me to report it to ford! he said what if there was a person behind you, and you pined them between us? i told me to report this to you! now i have a mint car in the garage! i won`t drive it! i won`t sell it and pass the problem to someone else! beside the price on these cars has crashed because of the recall! ford can`t fix it! i want my money back! i have a mint top of the line ford focus sitting in my garage! ford can`t fix it and wont give me my money back! they won`t even tell me why? please help! these cars are dangerous to drive! i have been ripped off by ford! first and last ford i ever buy! my daughter has owned two of these focuses they both did the same thing! she was afraid to drive them! she left the car at the dealership and left! she now has a 10k charge off on the car! this is bs! i want all my money back! ford has a dangerous car out there and i am going to expose them! i own wild rods, i am 60, adult driver, no tickets! why should i have to keep this dangerous car i can`t drive and they can`t fix? please help me! i have a car that costs me $400 a month, i can`t drive! thank you! *tr
The transmission clipped as to a 4th replaced faulty clutch while backing into the garage. the car jerked backwards out of know where and hit the side of the garage while backing in to park. the rear fender, bumper and parking aid sensors are now damaged thank you to a faulty transmission and clutch. i am tired of not feeling safe with my daughter in the car. *tr
2012 ford focus sel front passenger-side door is failing to latch closed. latch mechanism can only be actuated through directly holding the affected door closed and locking the door remotely. door stays closed if locked.
My wife and child were at a red light and when the light turned green and the gas pedal was pressed, the vehicle did not move only revved causing the man behind her to inch very close behind due to the light then honking his horn and yelling. in addition, after my wife and child returned home, i went to run to the store only to find that the vehicle does not turn over, not even sound like its attempting to as there is no noise when turning the key. i believe the vehicle does not recognize what gear it is in, thus will not start and has always had erratic shifting and lurching tendencies. i do not know what to do now, i have a family of five i support and no money to fix this. how am i going to get to work!!! i still have 5 years to pay on this...ughhh. trapped
While driving, my car suddenly stopped functioning. the engine light came on, followed by all other lights. i was able to pull the car over, but unable to restart. i called for a tow truck (aaa). after waiting for an hour, i tried the ignition again, and the car started right up. the same problem occurred the following night. the car was towed to the dealership, tom's ford in keyport, new jersey, where it still remains.
