The rear driver side door lost the ability to shut. when i tried to close the door while parked in my driveway, it wouldn't latch. had the car inspected and discovered the rear door latch has failed and needs to be replaced. spoke to ford and apparently the part is on a 4 month back order! not sure why this hasn't yet gone to recall. after doing some research, found out that this issue has been occurring on a lot of 2012-13 focus, and an investigation has been started. i was charged $129 for the mechanic to inspect the car, but haven't had it serviced yet due to the part being on back order. i don't have the receipt for the inspection handy but can scan a copy if needed.
Front drivers side door latch has failed. door will not latch closed. noticed while parked.
Tcm problems wife pulled out to a residential intersection and the car stalled, luckily no cars we're coming at the time she called me and was scared she didn't know what to do it took me i'm out 30 minutes to get to her meanwhile cars were backing up and going around her we pulled it into my mother-in-law's driveway which was near and ask my brother-in-law that is a mechanic to check it out and he indicated that it was the tcm that was out i have had problems with my transmission about six months after i bought it new it finally went out. i use this car to go to work i am a state circuit rider and put a lot of mileage on my car ilearn to deal with the sluggish transmission because of the dealers indicated they couldn't do anything about it just to reprogram the transmission that was done and that was the only thing that for done for my vehicle. after ford indicated recall i had too many mileage on my vehicle to qualify it was just barely over 50,000 miles the first time. second letter indicated for me to take the vehicle in to be checked but the dealer mechanic said that they had to physically hear or feel the shuddering of the transmission before they could program it again this went on until i had no warranty on my vehicle. the vehicle with sometimes do the shuttering or skipping of the transmission not all the time that's why the dealer said that he could not do it until it was doing it for him. so i learned to ignore the shuddering and skipping of the transmission and adapted to driving with it butt when my wife drove the car and it finally died on her that is too much to deal with.
My 2012 ford focus has had two door latches/lock fail. the latest one happened last week. it was the front passenger door that wont close at all. it just swings open and does not close no matter what. this happened to the front driver side door about 10 months ago too. both have happened while the vehicle was parked at my work place. the first time i took in my car for service to the earnhardt ford phoenix location, the ford employee who took my information down said that the same thing happened to his same year model focus. the second ford employee who took my info down last week has also experienced this issue while moving/driving a friends ford focus.
My driver and driver's passenger door latches does not work on my vehicle. i am unable to close and secure my doors at home, work, nor out in public. the dealership told me that there was not a recall on this vehicle and i would have to pay up to 1400 on two new latches. my vehicle was stationary when i pulled the handle to open it and when i tried to close the door it never latch onto the door frame. i have rope and cords holding the door in place as i drive and when my kids travel to school. my doors are unsecured daily.
While car was in motion turning onto a busy street, the front driver side door flew open. after further examination the door is not latching.
While driving down my street i take a right hand turn and my door flies open and i attempt to catch it from slamming closed but the force was too great and the door pushed my arm back towards my body. the door hit the car and bounced instead of latching on. i pulled over and it said door ajar and the door would not latch! this is a major safety issue for my son and i, and ford says it is not covered so it is costing me $529! this kind of safety issue should be covered much like the ford fiesta and fusion!
Door latch stopped working, door no longer closes, had to find bungie cord to tie the door shut so i could drive home. vehicle was in motion when i noticed the problem.
We came out of restaurant shut driver. door and would not latch had to drive home trying to hold shut, we were in parking lot.
The driver side door does not latch. i noticed it before driving so i held onto the door so it wouldn't fly open.
The driver's side back door latch fail to close the door. from there on the door do not close anymore. this is a very dangerous issue not only for our childrens but for any passenger in this car.
Sunroof exploded. just driving along a city street at approx. 45 mph and a loud bang sounded. all my windows are closed, ac is on 2, and suddenly i hear wind. i crack the divider back a bit, and i see the hole and shattered glass. literally happened to me with no warning, at 8:00 pm today (june 23, 2016), so no ford customer service. driving it to a ford dealership tomorrow to have it looked at. is this a recurring issue?
I was leaving after meeting up with a friend and as i turned my driver door opened out of no where causing my to strike another vehicle, turns out it's the door latch that won't close, so i'm sitting here startled writing this and my car door is still not able to close.
Rear door latch failed. the door would not stay closed. i had previously had the latch on the front door replaced several months ago. i realized that this is an ongoing issue on the 2012 ford focus when i chatted with another owner of a 2012 ford focus who was is for the third time for a door latch replacement. luckily, i have an extended warranty and my cost was $100. the cost without a warranty would be almost $275. this should not cost the owners of these cars anything. this is a safety issue. these latches fail without warning. both times that the latches failed, they worked fine the previous day
Driver side door came open while making a turn on a residential street at less than 10mph. 2012 focus titanium had approximately 52,000 miles at time of incident.
While driving straight on a neighborhood road, the latch on the drivers side door suddenly broke and the door swung open. similar issues led to recalls in the fiesta, but not yet the focus.
Door latche on driver door would not latch. while traveling down highway 178 the drivers door came open and would not latch closed. i contacted the local ford dealership and they said there was no recall on the door latches. i then looked on safe car and found that there has been other incidents of the same nature. i took my 2012 ford focus to the dealer to be evaluated and they said the door latch was bad. i f there has been so many incidents why isn't a recall been issued.
I opened the driver's side rear door to take out a few groceries, and when i was going to shut the door, it just bounced back. now it just won't close at all, (it won't latch on) and i have to tie it down.
Drive side door will not stay latched. door swings open while driving on highway. door must be secured with a bungie cord. ford refuses to pay for damage citing i not being the first owner of the vehicle. one week and the problem still has not been resolved. part is on order. ford is not concerned with the safety of their customers!
Defective door latch (driver side). door latch does not engage and "lock" closed to secure door. door remains open at all times. my 16 year old daughter went to start her car for school this morning and noticed that the driver side door would not shut. upon investigation i noticed that the latch would not engage and remained in the "open" position at all times.
The driver rear door latch stopped working. i opened the door from the outside like normal and then closed it. started my car to leave my driveway and noticed that the light indicating that my driver rear door was open. i then proceeded to try and get it to latch with no prevail. i talked with a friend and found out that it was my latch that was bad and that there was a recall with the fusion and fiesta models.
Door latches on both driver and front passenger side doors have broken in the past 9 months. this is a persistent problems with other ford models, however, they refuse to acknowledge this as an issue with ford focus. the door latch breaks for no reason and puts driver and passengers at risk of injury or death. the file attached is the original complaint issued to ford in september 2015.
Door latch broken. driver side door fails to latch. door opened normally then tried to close door after taking seat. door made a bang and i closed it and it bounced open. tried closing and again and notice it would not latch. had to use rope to tie door closed to get to work.
The latch for the drivers door is damaged it happened suddenly in my focus 2012 hatchback.
Drivers door latch disengaged while driving and now does not lock.
Door latches failed. first one failed last october (back left) and now the driver's door failed (front left). first one happened when a passenger was getting in the vehicle (was not noticed till the vehicle was in motion) and the second one happened when i was leaving the vehicle (car was stationary). i am actually surprised that this has not had a recall yet. had to pay out of pocket for both. you would think a car manufacturer could make a door latch last longer than 3-4 years.
Driver door will not latch when trying to close. latch assy door does not engage . the door just bounces open. never have had any problem until it just happened. dealer says they are not currently on recall , but if they replace it the cost is about $475.00 . i feel it is a ford problem on this vehicle and they should repair it no- charge. maybe people have to be hurt or die first before it is resolved. hope not !!!!!
Driver door will not latch or lock in order to stay closed while driving nor while parked. the automatic locking system that engages after beginning to drive does not latch or lock the driver's door, resulting in a panel warning that the door is ajar.
I purchased this vehicle from ford of kirkland in washington state in 2016, and noticed driving issues the day i drove it off the lot. this vehicle has a dps6 transmission and it constantly jerks, shudders and slips out of gear while driving at any speed. it often fails to accelerate or accelerates suddenly and out of control, especially when going uphill. it also frequently overheats, especially when idling, despite having work done on it several times that was supposed to fix this problem. i was told this was an automatic transmission when the vehicle was sold to me, and the dps6 is not an automatic transmission at all. i also frequently have issues with the electrical and radio system. the clock changes randomly and the audio switches unexpectedly to radio stations from blue tooth while driving and then fails to switch back to any blue tooth device, sometimes for several days until it randomly begins working again. this is especially problematic when i am relying on audio directions from navigation apps that are paired from my cell phone while driving. i was also told by ford of kirkland service center that there is "nothing wrong" with my transmission or my vehicle and that i'm just not driving it "correctly," which makes absolutely no sense. this vehicle and its faulty transmission are unsafe to drive. i do not let anyone else drive this vehicle because i fear for their safety and i only drive it myself in times where it is absolutely necessary, which i can prove by the very small amount of miles i have put on it since purchase. i experience the above stated problems every single time i drive it this vehicle, which is a clearly a lemon by definition. ford broke the law by selling me this dangerous vehicle with a transmission that they knew was unsafe and by falsely advertising this transmission as an automatic.
Passenger front door will not latch.
My driver side from door flew open while driving. the door will not latch closed and i have to use rope to keep it closed.
I have had two door latches fail on my 2012 focus so far. the driver door was the first to fail, which has already been repaired on 12 february 2016 (documentation provided through upload). door ajar warning light will not turn off. the driver's side door failed in my driveway, and i had to tie myself in using my seatbelt just to go get it repaired. this is a known and ongoing problem for ford. the rear passenger door failed while the car was in motion; luckily a friend was able to grab the door and hold it close before it was struck by a passing car in the lane next to us on a city street. my kids were in the back seat at the time, and i fear that i cannot use my vehicle because it is unsafe to drive in its present condition, and the other two doors could fail at any time. my two-year-old daughter sits in a car seat right next to the left passenger door, and my wife typically sits in the front passenger seat, both of which seem as if they are next in line to fail. this is a huge safety concern and ford should repair these at no cost, reimburse for money already spent, and even provide a tow truck to bring the vehicle safely to the dealership for repair. currently my car has been sitting in the drive way for a week and i cannot really go anywhere because the door will not lock after this failure happens, which means someone can just open the door and take whatever they would like. in addition, it poses a potential problem with the battery since the interior and exterior lights will not turn off for approximately 30 minutes while the failed door latch leaves the door in the open position. the most recent case occurred on 29 april 2016, and is still not repaired because i cannot afford to fix it at this time.
While driving down a residential road, the driver's side door opened. i stopped the vehicle and attempted to shut the door. the door opened without pulling the handle. now the door no longer closes and must be held shut at all times by the driver.
I have had transmission problems from day one. the car studded and stop from time to time. i almost got into an accident with my daughter when the car suddenly stopped on me because of faulty transmission. the radiator also went out. the steering gear locked up on me while i was driving and i almost had an accident with my kids in the car.
Driver's read door latch. door suddenly would not shut anymore. currently i strapping the door shut so that it will not fly open. problem started when i noticed my lights indicated that a door was open.
My drivers side door latch opened while driving and the door came open. i stopped and it would not closed the door stayed open. i called the ford dealership and they said it is a known issue year a recall on the focus has not been done. the cost to replace the door latch and mechanism was $517 that they are quoting me. this is a safety issue that is know.
Today the front driver's side door latch failed while driving on the freeway. the door was closed and latch intact when i initially started the car and began driving then suddenly the door flew open while in motion and a notification appeared saying "driver's side door open." the issue happened so suddenly that i was forced to swerve to avoid hitting the vehicle driving to my left and nearly hit the vehicle to my right. i pulled over and attempted to open and close the door several times and engage the lock to see if the door would stay closed but was unsuccessful. i managed to get the vehicle to a nearby ford dealership by holding the door tightly with one hand while steering with the other. at the dealership i was told that this issue was not covered under my gold level extended warranty that i had purchased and it would cost nearly 600 dollars to fix. not only was the repair expensive, but the part was out of stock and would require my vehicle to stay in the shop for an undisclosed number of days, which forced me to rent a rental vehicle, incurring another cost.
My driver door will not close and i took it to ford they said it is the latch that broke told me they could not fix it as a recall but ford fiesta is being recalled for the same part . told me i could pay 450 bucks to fix it for a part that is being recalled on a different car but it's the same piece.. i have been driving with bungy cords attached to my door ...if i had something to do with this i could understand but i didn't it is a piece on there car that broke and they need to fix it...my transmission was a recall they fixed that and it continues to do the same thing as before
While driving down the road the rear left side door flew open. it appears there is a problem with the door latch it will not close.
Im having problems with my transmission i have been having problems with it since 2016 there was a recall on it i took it back a control module was put on it, than i took it back the end 2017 a clutch was suppose to have been put in it. now its 2018 and its back acting up again.
The first time was going down 93 in boston area with my family the car went into transmission failure why i was in far left lane the car wouldnt go over 20 and i had to cross over to the far left lane to treach the breakdown lane. luckily my family was not in accident because it could've have been far worse. it did the same thing a second time when i was going down 293 area going to a doctor appointment. this may end up killing my family if it doesn't get recalled and fix. we don't have extra money to be repairing it ourself every time it decides to do this.
Feb 29, 2016 was driving to work on freeway when i noticed driver door was not closed. i attempted to close door but it would not stay shut. i exit the freeway and repeatedly attempting to close the door. this has never happened to me before. i was afraid of what possibly could have happened. not to me but to my girlfriend who is 5 months pregnant with our child. it is the car we bought for her but today i decided to leave her my truck. "better me then her" is what i was thinking. i immediately searched google to see what it can possibly be when i came across the recall ford was having. i didn't see ford focus on there and was thinking "why the hell not" it seems to be the same problem. i came across forums of other have the same horrible experience. i also read of it happening to a women in arizona who had her cost covered by ford. i called my dealer where we purchased the vehicle and was advised that the focus is not covered. i was given a call later during the day with an price of $682.56 to have it fixed. i called a 1-800-392-3673 to speak with ford and express my concern and the terrifying experience of my drive to work. all i was told i can do is hold on to my receipt in case it is recalled in the future. i asked about the women in arizona who had the same experience and why was her cost covered and not any of these other people. i was told hers was probably different. i was speechless after that. as our call came to an end all i could think about was all these complaints about door latches not closing and the accidents that can possibly happen at any given time without warning. no one is taking responsibility for the defected latches. ford is no taking responsibility for the defected latches. how can they recall approx. 400,000 other models and not realize maybe the same thing is happening to the focus.
Rear driver side door opened while in motion on a highway and will no longer close.
When backing out of a driveway, a warning appeared on dash display indicating door open. as i pulled onto the street, the front passenger door swung open on it's own. i tried several attempts to close the door, but it would not latch. as of this date, i have not had it repaired.
This car has a clutch problem and ford knew it and a recall was never issue. i now have to spend over $1400 to repair the car.
I purchased my car in june 2012. i have had to replace the clutch three times due to issues. i have had to have the roof liner reinstalled as it had come loose. now, only a month after the $700 repair for the roof, i am now told to pay $950 to repair my brake booster which as broken and messed up the primary shaft. my car has less than 30,000 miles on it and is only 3.5 years old, yet seems to be falling apart now that it is out of warranty. i asked if i had done anything to cause the brake booster to fail, and was told "no, it is just a mechanical failure," that i have to pay for because it is out of warranty. i was also told that there was no way that the mechanics could have seen the issue, even though it mysteriously started less than 2 weeks after i had it in the shop for over a week. after getting the roof liner and clutch reinstalled i was told that they had also updated all of the software in my car. a little over a week later the check engine light came on as i was stopped at a red light. i thought it was a software glitch as the light turned off when i started driving again. it happened once more about a week or so later, but it was at the same stoplight, so i thought it may be the particular angle of the car at that light or something, but resolved to take it in if it happened again. i was gone for 2 weeks for christmas break, then when i came back the low brake fluid light came on every time i was stopped for more than 30 seconds. i stopped driving my car until i could get it into the shop. so, with less than a month of driving my car since it was last in the shop, apparently $950 in damage was done that, while not my fault "could not have been avoided" and is something i have to pay for if i want my car to be safe to drive.
Was driving down the road when my driver door opened.. the door will no longer latch and its very unsafe to have that happen someone can get hurt..
Fuel gage not work, on highway 22 p.r. the low fuel warning turn on showing 66 miles to empty, but on a mile distance de distance reduces 7 or 8 miles, in abbout 6 and a half miles the car shut off without fuel at 4pm with heavy trafic, hard brakes and no power steering but no accident
Drivers door latch did not latch while parked. i pulled. into a parking space and when i got out the door would not latch as if the spring was no longer working. i took it to the dealer and they were able to fix it the next day
The rear passenger door loock does not stay locked, my grandaughter was riding in the rear passenger seat when the door flew open. door ill not stay . took the car to orange ford in orange ca, where they stated there is no recall on this model even though there is a recall on the same year of ford 2012 fusion and fesitia for a know latch problem for the passenger doors. i also spoke to ford motor companies customer service today and they also stated there is nothing they can do until the problem is recalled. i will have to pay for the repair. this is a real saftey problem which for is not taking responsibility for. what should i do?
