We have classified the 44 complaints from 2000 Ford Focus about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
While in motion on a busy highway, driving 70 mph, my 2000 ford focus (62,000 orig miles) began downshifting; the engine light illuminated. replacement of the neutral drive sensor was completed. now, six months later same thing happening. driving on a busy highway at speeds of 65 mph the '00 ford focus begins downshifting causing a decrease in speed at an alarming rate, rpms increase, engine light illuminates making the vehicle unsafe.
We purchased a vehicle on 09/03/2016 from grass valley auto wholesale brokers, grass valley, ca. the vehicle was making a ticking noise and seemed to have a power issue, it kept losing it. the next day i called the lot and told them. they said they had it checked out and not to worry. i did. it kept happening sporadically. i had a 3 month/3k miles warranty. after calling the lot again, i relayed the same symptoms the car was having. i wanted to know did they think if it could be a transmission issue, could be, was the answer i got.. in november i took the vehicle into jr's transmission, came recommended. they serviced the transmission, it was good. it was still happening. two days ago, coming off a stoplight, i put the gas down and it made a loud knock . i hobbled to the corner, approx 100 yards. it was towed to the auto lot suggested mechanic, who probably worked on the vehicle in the beginning. he told me it needs a new engine. when i called grass valley wholesale auto brokers, the owners son, who is also a salesman there, told me we will work something out. maybe my dad could take care of half of (referring to the anticipated cost of repairs). today, the owner would not talk to me, nor answer the phone. i left a message with the owners son. i haven't heard back. i sought out help to remedy this issue straight away from the dealer and repair but the dealer brushed me off. that was when my warranty was in effect. now im two weeks out of warranty. they should had checked the vehicle when i had originally wanted answers about what was causing it. as according to the owner, his mechanic knows his cars inside and out. *tr
I have owned this car since december of 2003 and it has been a very large money pit. this time the car just stopped running. i had taken it to autozone and they told me it need an egr sensor or hosing for it. when i was turning at a light the car just stopped running when i had just turned onto a main highway. there has been major electrical problems with it since day one. this car has had 5 clutches in it and i have complained about that all in itself because a car should never need that many clutches within 100,000 miles. that is ridiculous and very expensive and i have gotten no where with that even though there are other 2000 ford focus's with the same issue. my one head light is not right it never has been there is corrosion on the inside of the headlamp. the rear door latch does not work on the passenger side of the vehicle. the passenger side front door also does not latch correctly and no longer locks at all. the trunk latch is not right either. it will not always unlatch and then close again. it often requires several more times of pushing the trunk release and it will finally unlock after several attempts. i have put thousands of dollars into this lemon. i have all the repair paperwork, it has a brand new breaking system, brand new transmission, brand new engine, brand new clutch, battery. we have replaced everything in this car and here we go again....this car has sat more than it has been driven!!! i honestly feel that we should be reimbursed for the money we spent on buying the car because it was and is still a lemon since day one...... *js
Driving down the road in a subdivision at about 20 mph, turned, and heard a cracking sound from left front tire. stopped and got out to look = left front spring coil was broken. i drive a 2000 ford focus. have also had trouble with the ignition system - key not turning in tumbler - and with the fuel pump module. last contacted recall from ford dealership was for "wiper motor in 2001." *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford focus. while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle would not accelerate forwards or backwards. the vehicle was towed by aaa to an independent mechanic. the mechanic stated that the automatic transmission was completely nonfunctional and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer could not assist due to the age of the vehicle. the current and failure mileages were approximately 19,000.
2000 ford focus #1 car has been owned by me since 2001 (bought from a dealer with 13k miles on it), it gets used lightly and never goes on long trips. i use it just for local driving, to and from work. (about 5 miles a day, car has 80k miles on it) this car is a lemon! i have had some of the strangest problems and gone through more recalls then anyone should have to. #2 problems i'm having currently: suspension car's front passenger side spring has broken, makes very loud crunching noises when turning, needs repair. electrical car has smelled of burning rubber, and electrical system has started smoking on more then one occasion, have come very close to going up in flames. turning the car off then disconnecting the battery terminal cures the problem temporarily. was also told by local mechanic front axles are bad, and need to be replaced soon but do not know much more about it. problems i've had: fuel pump recall, door latch recall, and battery cable recall. have also had problems with the rear bearings of the car, paid out of pocket to fix those, because dealer told me there was no recall on them. after reading nhtsa campaign #01i017000 i have since learned otherwise. #3 all the problems i'm having with the car currently are not fixed. all the other ones were repaired by the dealer with the exception of the rear wheel bearings. the front spring is still available as is still on the car, and he electrical system is still intact. i will have to replace the spring soon but i'll hold on to it. the same goes for the front axle's. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford focus. while driving 30 mph, the contact heard a grinding noise. minutes later, the front end of the vehicle collapsed. she pulled over and noticed metal hanging from the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the garage and the mechanic stated that the front passenger side spring struts failed. the mechanic replaced the sway bar links, the inner tie rod, the cb boot, the driver side axle, and the front passenger side hub bearing. the current mileage was 90,982 updated 5/19/08 *cn
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle would not pass inspection. the dealer performed over $500 worth of repairs to the vehicle and stated that they passed it for inspection. they even placed their own inspection sticker on the vehicle. less than a week later, the check engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. later, the vehicle still would not pass state inspection. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic and they discovered a hole in the engine and that the transmission was twisted. while driving the vehicle home at an unknown speed, it stalled. no repairs have been made to the vehicle. the failure and current mileages were over 100,000.
2000 ford focus with 30,000 miles. differential blew up and destroyed the transmission. one year ago the struts had to be replaced in the front end. i understand these things are not normal occurrences especially with the amount of driving i do. i can't sell or trade in the car without repairing the transmission, estimate: 2,700. *tr
On 10/23/07 i inserted key into ignition of my ford focus and immediatley the lights and gauges went haywire-vehicle failed to start. to make a long story short ,after unpluging the battery cables and going back to the stranded car the next evening, it started . 2 days later my wipers came on by themselves and would not stop until i turned the car off and restarted. on 10/31/07 while driving my daughter home, the vehicle began accelerating and deccelertaing uncontrollably. i pulled of the highway and when i opened the drivers door, the seatbelt light began blinking and making a loud ticking noise. this had happened the night prior, but i thought maybe the button was depressed. my dome lights make a screeching noise and blink on and off. this is a serious problem that needs to be looked into. whenever something like this happens i am driving home late at night and of course the dealer is not open to help me . my car is almost paid off and i will not invest more than what it is worth, which is only about $2,500.too bad i have paid about $18,000 for it. i would also like to know why i have not received recalls for the following problems: 1. 1st month after purchase, electrical system running airbags, mirrors, doors etc. failed. 2. 37,000 miles- transmission failed 3. 42,000 miles- power door locks failed and soon after passenger doors stuck in the lock position. 4. all window tracks have failed. 5. wheel bearings replaced. 6. trunk latch failed 7. ignition failed and was replaced and is going again. 8. brought in for 1 recall (fuel filter) and still didn't correct problem with vibration and lurching. this is a vehicle that exceeds highway saftey ratings? something will be done about this if i must hire an attorney- i am out a lot of money and no vehicle. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford focus. while accelerating from a stop at 15 mph, the vehicle rolled forward, shifted out of second gear, and rolled back. the failure occurred on both flat and inclined surfaces. the dealer replaced the control module. the failure mileage was 96,141 and current mileage was 96,241.
Had to replace transmission, cost close to $2,800.00. after that was replaced i has a coil spring break over the tire which broke off into my tire and i went careening over a railroad track and i went into a ditch. ford motor company replaced that after much protesting on my behalf. i paid out of pocket to have it towed to a dealership. i was never reimbursed for that. the issue i have had since then is that the car stalls for no apparent reason. i have replaced an o2 censor and battery, but this problem persists. it does not matter what speed i am going. the car acts as if it isn't getting fuel to the motor. now, mechanics are saying i may need to replace the fuel pump which is expensive. i will finally be paying this car off next month. it feels like a disposable adventure. i read up on the recalls and feel this has to be a recall with the fuel system. i am afraid to go very far in this car because i don't know when or where it will stall. it has no real pattern . i tried going with a higher grade of fuel, used additives and it just keeps doing the same thing, please consider my complaint. *tr
Dt*: the contact stated while the vehicle was parked in a public parking area, another vehicle hit the front end of the parked vehicle causing it to be moved ten feet onto the road. on another occasion, while parked, the vehicle moved on its own hitting another parked vehicle. the vehicle was taken into a local independent body shop for body work. there were no further examination or repairs made.*ak
Every time i would take my car to the dealer for repairs . they would tell me there were none. in june i took my focus to the dealer for a loud noise coming from the left rear wheel. they told me there were no ball bearings on the left side and the right side needed to be done also, they only had one in stock that day. *tr
I was driving my ford focus & the front coil spring broke while i was driving the front end of the car collapsed on the front tire. i was driving 65 miles and hour seconds before i fortunately slowed down to a stop...noticed a noise like a flat tire, something did not feel right just before it collapsed on the road, i again thank god, i decided to turn around to go back home & immediately upon that turn around the car collapsed. these recalls safety campaigns are risking my life, but terrifies me for my newly driving son behind the wheel. as if that is not bad enough, i now have to file this complaint also. electrical system ignition---unable to remove key....car was unable to be towed car locked up..steering everything. cost of repair was quoted from $382.00 from ford service dealer...meanwhile the huge inconvenience car parking fees..for being in a public parking lot.
My husband was driving our 2000 ford focus zts and the clutch pedal fell completely off. after doing research i see that there was a limited time recall for this item, however we are 2nd owners of this vehicle i am assuming the original owners did not have this fixed. however, we purchased the vehicle from a ford dealership in 2001 before the recall expired and they also did not have the faulty clutch replaced. called ford today and they offered no assistance. fortunately my husband was not injured and no one else was injured either. however, this could have led to a very serious accident. we are now having to pay to have the pedal assembly replaced as well as the clutch master cylinder. total $650.00. *jb
Rt front axel broke, car not drivable. clicking noise noticed on left turns 60 miles previous. boot cover over rt fnt bearing noted gaping hole, metal attachment ring off and detached. axel broke as being delivered to dealer for repair/fix of boot cover. cover had been inspected when tires replaced by dealer 750 miles previously and no noted defect. *nm

Purchased 2000 ford focus, vin [xxx] from croft ford on dec. 19, 2001; mileage was 12,163 (car was still under warranty); have been unable to walk since march of 2002 (mileage on car is now just over 13,000; last 200 plus miles has been put on by ford dealerships attempting to fix car). have had this car in to several ford dealerships; none of which can solve problem of engine surges; dash lights sweeping; transmission bolting; etc., etc., etc. this car is not safe to drive; i have notified ford motor company; the dealerships, etc., and feel that it should be covered under "manufacturer warranty" .. instead latest was that ford dealership wanted $500 to replace alternator and could not guaranty that would fix problem; i already paid $105; plus $110 and the same problems are happening. the car has been at the ford dealership in woodbridge, va, for over 2 weeks, which leaves my family without a car to transport me. this is not right. i told todd croft of croft ford that i needed a good, dependable, safe car because this would be the last car i ever purchased. he knew that i did not drive much at all and i feel that he sold the car (with an existing problem) to me thinking that i would never know. my daughter was the one who realized this car had a serious defect and took it to croft ford to be fixed several months ago; to date, it still is not fixed; is a danger to drive, not only to the person/occupants of the car, but to any vehicles near when the power surges occur and the transmission bolts. *jb updated 07/18/2012 *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
1) at highway speed, abruptly shifts into low gear and deccelerates hard. odometer displays "======", windshield wipers turn on. 2) engine abruptly stalls, with immediate loss of power steering and brakes. again accompanied by other odd events. 3) no accident yet, but dangerous. 4) happens sporadically, getting more frequent.
The consumer had numerous repairs performed on her 2000 ford focus. *jb recall campaign#02v288000 & 00v411000. repairs that have taken place within one year: 14 new tires because of a problem with the wheels, engine, transmission jerking, re-wired, battery, overheating and muffler. *sc
Dt: the vehicle was making a thumping noise at 35 mph, started over weekend, the engine mount cracked and engine dropped from the vehicle while it was in motion. was going 40 mph, and had only 58,000. dealer looked at it ,and said it wasn't under recall. the pressure of the engine breaking. also broke the axle. *ak
Needed to have the clutch replaced with only 37,340 miles on the car. noticed burning smell coming from car especially in the summer when stopping on hills. it seemed that having the air conditioner on, stopping on a hill, and then driving out of 1st gear for some reason burns out the clutch. so the clutch wore out and i had it replaced at a cost of $924.96. was told by dealership that it was probably due to the way i drive. i've been driving cars for 34 years and have never needed to replace a clutch. seems to me there is some kind of defect; clutches should not need to be replaced so soon. how do i prevent the same thing from happening in the future? *nm
While driving 20 mph vehicle stalled. consumer managed to pull over, and had the vehicle towed. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. *ak
Dt: the contact owns a 2000 ford focus with 22,000 miles on the vehicle. the contact had to replace two automatic transmissions. the first transmission was replaced 9 months ago with about 18,000 miles. the second transmission was replaced last week. the dealership told her to pay $129.00 or trade the vehicle in to the dealership. she refused to pay the $129.00 and she did not want to trade in the vehicle in for another ford. she sent an e-mail to ford. as of right now they have not gotten her e-mail. the dealership provided her with a rental car. however ,they told her that if she did not come and pickup car she will have to start paying for the rental car. the contact took vehicle to dealer on august 22, 2005 ,and the dealership performed recall repairs that she was never notified about. the dealership told her that she knew her car was a lemon. however, she brought her car in too late. *ak

On the afternoon of 9/29/2004 i attempted to reverse out of a driveway when the transmission failed to engage. a loud clank noise had occured several minutes before when driving forward into the driveway. i had the vechicle towed to the dealer, where i was told this 4 year old car with only 32000 miles required a new or rebuilt transmission. after reading the other seized transmission complaints that resulted in crashes, i feel very lucky. *ak
While driving at 30 mph on city limits consumer's vehicle experienced the same problem as described in nhtsa recall 00v303000. passenger vehicles. the rear wheel hub retaining nuts can loosen and allow the left rear wheel and brake drum assembly to separate from the vehicle. dealership indicated this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin. *ak

Dt: the contact stated the ignition switch failed three times within a year and a half. the first time, she went to start the car, the ignition would not turn over. the car was towed and repaired. the second failure was approximately one year later and the same thing happened. the car was towed and repaired for the second time. the third failure happened this week, went to start the car and it would not start again. it is being repaired now. the dealership stated it could possibly be the starter along with the ignition switch. *ak in dec 2001 the consumer was involved in an accident due to a problem with the tires and the rear axle. the transmission cooler lines were replaced. the brake lights and heater did not work. the egr tube was replaced. the wiper arm was broken. the engine light stayed on all time. the driver side mirror had to be replaced. updated 01/11/06. *jb
We purchased our 2000 ford focus in august of 2003 it had low miles and we figured i was a good car. in october it broke down on us and it was a clutch disk that went out. we said ok and they fixed it under warranty. the day after we got it back from the shop it started making a weird noise so we took it back and they said they need to make a adjustment. then less than 3 weeks later we ended up having it break down on us once again they had to replace the transmission. well here we are once again. about a month after the transmission. going through a stop light one day the car started to have engine hesitation and loss of power and then would stall out. now they are telling us that water got in our fuel tank and ruined the fuel pump. i just found out by doing some of my own research that the fuel system was recalled in nov of 2003 for cars exhibiting the similar symptoms. the dealership where we purchased the vehicle has not informed us of this recall and states that the water was the cause of our problems. *la
I purchased a ford focus wagon (2000) from rowan lincoln mercury in winter haven florida in november 2003. since that time this "checked out" vehicle has had the following repairs: a new ignition lock (twice), a new battery, new spark plugs & wires, new vacuum hose, and new alternator. now the transmission is going out on the vehicle. do i have any recourse against the dealership for selling me an obviously messed up vehicle? my contact with the dealership has been unanswered. the vehicle only had 36,000 miles on it when i purchased it. everyone that touches the car tells me that there is no good reason for the need of any of the repairs except the spark plugs, wires and battery. any advice as i am now facing another repair bill in excess of $1,000 for a car that is touted as being one of the most reliable on the road? *jb

I own a 2000 ford focus 2000 se 4 dr sedan. it was bought as new car 11/1999 and currently has 39500 carefully driven miles. earlier this autumn an amber dashboard warning light came on as i was driving. at first opportunity to decode its meaning from vehicle's manual, i learned it was the 'automatic transaxle/cooling' warning light on ztec equipped models (like mine). i took it to lincoln mercury deal (where i have had my focus repaired often): 'baron lincoln mercury' in flushing, new york where they performed a computerized check of symptoms. i was told service writer there were 'codes' which indicated solenoid and gear ratio problems in 2nd and 4th. i wasn't sure what all that meant but seemed like good idea to take advice and schedule another more detailed inspection for possible repairs; the earliest opportunity was around 10 days from that day and i took it. i should mention that the light had not continued to remain 'on' following the 1st time. i took my car to baron on a saturday morning and on monday following it, i saw same light to come 'on. that day i called local aamco dealer and agreed to have car looked at there the next morning where their computer found same thing. i agreed to let aamco open up transmission for diagnostic work-up and that afternoon was told that needed repairs totalling approximately $2700. i agreed to let aamco perform work after having first contacted the same service writer at baron lincoln-mercury who informed me that they very seldom did transmission work and that if they did it'd cost around $2700. since aamco's specialty is transmissions, it made sense to proceed. i am a two time ford customer ('96 and '2000) and won't permit the idea of buying another to cross my mind. *la

I have a 2000 focus. i experiance hesitation when the fuel tank is about 1/4th full, it died once while turning around an offramp cloverleaf. also when coming to stops it idles rough. when starting and waiting while in or out of gear, idling is rough. turning corners i occasionaly get creeks from the front and rear. sometimes i hear thumps from the rear when riding over bumps on occasion. i hear and feel a growl while the engine is running regardless of being in or out of gear or in or out of motion. it feels more prominent when the temp. is below 60 degrees. i can feel it vibrating in the steering wheel while turning and it seems to stop while turning left but continues when the steering reaches center. while going up or down inclines or small depressions in the road it becomes even more noticeable and you can feel it in the floor. the drivers side rear door lock sometimes clicks in and out of the lock postion erratically when the electronic door lock/unlock button is depressed. this handle is also extremely tough to open. sometimes power is lost to the radio, i remove the detachable aniti-theft piece and replace it, sometimes it works, sometimes i need to do it numerous times before the radio will turn back on. i had experianced warped rotors on the front when i first bought the vehicle numerous times, but i switched them with slotted rotors so i no longer have this problem. my rear brake drums are stock (but the pasds are not) and they squeal quite frequently, possibly due to excessive dust. i had noticed that sometimes the power window control would not work for windows other than the drivers. this has not happened in about a year or 2. i have just recently experienced water in the passenger well. last, occasionally the transmission will hesitate while driving. it almost feels like the transmission is shifting into neutral, but more like it was a human with a cluthc out a bit who cannot make up their mind about what gear to use.
At 148 miles told ford there was a problem with trans, did not believe road tested fro 2 miles and had car for day and a half. said they designed trans to slip. i continued to drive it in that condition and repeatedly called customer service back and questioned dealers about slip and they said it was designed that way. to say the least trans replaced. trim and other items falling off car and frod would not replace. more brake jobs than you can shake a stick at. just got done putting 600.00 into it when engine threw rod and now has to be replaced for a cost of 3,700.00. ford made a bad car nd they know it , but will leave us focus owners out to hang.
Let's see, where shall i begin. within month or two of purchase of 2000 focus sedan it was back in the shop for the front a panel trim. it took 3 times to finally get that right. also less than 5 months after purchase, windshield had to be replaced due to a stress fracture (was a 1-1.5 hairline crack which appeared in windshield). the windshield has since been replaced again. while adjusting the rear-view mirror the windshield cracked around the base, apparently from slight pressure of mirror. and just recently, august 2003, i've noticed water drops flying up from above the dashboard. not sure if windshield is leaking around the bottom base or maybe a.c. haven't had it checked yet, but it will be in the shop this week for other problems i haven't mentioned yet. it was in shop in late 2001 or early 2002 for throttle problems. while the car was sitting still the engine would race between 2.5 and 3000 rpms. fortunately i never used the cruise control during that time. late 2002 the trunk lock mechanism apparently broke preventing the trunk from shutting properly. it wouldn't latch at all. i have yet to have the wiper motor cover recall fixed. and on different occasions the fuel gauge has read empty, no matter how much fuel you have in the tank. and just when you think nothing else can go wrong, it happens. me and my wife were shopping this morning on labor day saturday. we got in the car and i went to start it. my key somehow would not go into the ignition completely, no matter how hard i tried. we eventually call our triple aaa insurance and arrange for a locksmith to come and take a look. he looks at it a second and declares what we fear the worst. our focus is the 7th focus this month he has seen with the same problem. he said that the ignition would have to be replaced by ford. i believe that this should be a recall. i will never buy another ford.
While driving about 55 mph on the highway, without warning the transmission locked up. this caused a collision with another vehicle forcing the vehicle into the guard rail. no injuries or fatality reported at this time. please fill in additional information. dealer is aware of the problem. *ph
Engine idles at 3,000 - 4,000rpm's when clutch is pressed in. it does this at a stopping position and while driving. ford dealer spoke with ford engineers and were told that it is "a characteristc of the car and is normal!"
Started experiencing problems with the vehicle after purchase. suddenly in august, all power systems/computer type items began to fail -- power locks, trunk release. then, car began (and still does) to sputter and shake when stopped/idle until it would shutdown. also, the radio/cd player would shut off. checked for tsbs for the vehicle model & year and found at least 15. when i took the car to the dealer (world ford sandy springs) we were told that they are technical service bulletins and that we would have to pay to have the car repaired. only official ford recall notices, not even ntsa recall notices, would be honored. on top of this, we would be expected to pay $90 per complaint batch (the tsb list was batched in to 3 main areas)for diagnostic purposes and if any of the complaints were related to a recall, the $90 would be refunded as applicable. i expressed that if ford issued a tsb and the ntsa issued a recall notice, then i should not have to pay to have the car worked on.
I have a 2000 ford focus zx3. ever since i bought the car, i have had problems. the day i bought it, i noticed transmission problems, two months after that, i had brake problems. since i have had the car i have gotten my brakes done twice. i have had the car about 15 months now. i also had my ignition cylinder replaced, a fuel filter replaced, and now my car dies when i slow down. i have had nothing but problems with this car. *ak
2002 focus with with 5-speed manual transmission and less than 33,000 has a failed clutch. we believe this failure is due to defective equipment, wonder if it could be related to either service bulletin #00b59 or #14204.*ak vehicle has not been driven in a manner to abuse the clutch. only two drivers are mature adults and bought the vehicle to replace a 1990 escort with similare 5-speed manual transmission and approximately 100,000 miles. escort never had clutch problem and was driven, since new by same two drivers.
Has been to shop for 26 days in the past 4 months. repeated failure of clutch (manual transmission), failure of brake pads, resulting in minor crash. have had to had ball joints replaced. cruise control was disconnected from accerator/brake. key would not go into ignition and resulted in key ignition switch having to be replaced. numerous recalls and trips to shop since bought brand new in august 2003*ak
While shifting the vehicle the transmission light appear on the dashboard. and it is hard to drive please fill in additional information dealer is aware of the problem.
Front coil spring is fractured. ford motor company's customer satisfaction program 03m02 only covers cars built through december 1999. my vehicle was built in may 2000. ford's coverage does not extend to all affected vehciles or ford has another problem with front coil springs on focus. very high efforts to shift in and out of 1st, 3rd and 5th gears - difficlult to shift gears resulting in increased time and attention to shift gears.
Nov 2002 took to dealer the car was purchased from, told them it was sluggish and gas guage didn't always register. i thought at that time it was maybe the transmission. i was told nothing wrong, could not duplicate problem. took to neighborhood dealer for the same problem replaced fuel filter. had all this work before warranty expired in feb 2003. never notified about possible fuel pump. june 27th started car and engine died. it then wouldn't start again for about 30 minutes. i took it immediately to my neighborhood ford dealership. who told me it was the fuel pump and strongly suggest not to drive the car until repair. so the car was left there for repairs. after listen to the service people at the dealership, it came to my attention this was a common problem. i started to invesigate this myself and find 67 cases listed on the nhtsa website. the common statement was that the while driving at any speed and without prior warning vehicle dies out. on car hitting a park vehicle and several near misses on the highway. 2000 ford focus engine sputters and then stalls at high speeds. my concern is that i have heard and read hundred if not thousands of these fuel pump failures and after many nice but ineffective answers from ford i feel that someone will be injured seriously or die to these faulty and possibly dangerous fuel systems. my dealership previously worked on this telling me fuel filter and i feel know well it was more and like the fuel pump. it seem that the gas guage not registering is a clear sign of problems with the fuel pump.
The automatic transmission cuts out while accelerating to 2nd gear, especially at full throttle. in the middle of 2nd gear, rpms hang around 4000 at full throttle. letting off throttle allows rpms to reach 5700 and vehicle shifts into 3rd. rpms hang again at 4000 in 3rd gear, and any manipulation of throttle (full, half, etc.) does not raise rpms. this causes the vehicle to be limited to approx 60 mph.*ak
The transmission jerked when the gear shifter was placed in gear and the transmission light illuminated on the dash. *nlm. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer 8 times for the same repair. *jb
