BODY 49

Recently reported STRUCTURE problems on 2013 Ford Flex

Door ajar indicator activates when door is closed. dome light remains on and so does the indicator light. passenger side rear door. same problem hundreds of others are reporting.

I have had two door latches fail in the same vehicle within 2 years of each other. no matter whether the vehicle is moving or stationary, i get a warning stating the right front (and previously the right rear) door was not closed when in fact it was. there is a faulty sensor in the door latches. this also prevents the child locks from engaging since it thinks the doors are open.

Defective door latch. the latch reports "door ajar" when door is closed, unlocking all doors at all times.

Passenger door ajar indicator light stays on even though door closed (constant - whether stopped or moving). it's been a couple of weeks. it keeps lights on inside and the outside mirrors i've heard (online) it could be a sensory issue, but i fear it may be a faulty latch issue. when i felt the latch, it seemed sluggish (i can push it a little and it stays - doesn't spring back to either open or closed). i feel the latch is not working properly and may not close all the way. i also worry that the battery will die because it keeps lights on.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. the contact stated that the front passenger side door latch failed to lock and the door ajar warning indicator illuminated. the contact was concerned that her child would be able to open the door while the vehicle was in motion. the vehicle was taken to century ford of mt. airy (302 century dr, mt airy, md 21771, (301) 829-2800) where it was diagnosed that all four door latches needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and was advised to call nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

My driver side passanger door ajar, dome lights won't go off, my 4yr old daughter sits on that side, was driving and it happend door would not lock, took to ford dealer, was quoted $435. have to have it replaced as it is draining my batter, and making car alarm go off, it happens in motion, and stationary, it is very unsafe, and should be recalled

Liftgate ajar light on when liftgate is closed. interior lights stay on. doors stay unlocked during drive.

Passenger side doors give false door ajar notifications. first occurrence was repaired june 2017. rear passenger door now shows the notification as of november 2017. false notification leads to dome lighting and exterior lights staying on. battery was drained and replaced in june 2017. doors fail to lock using automatic door lock while in motion. dealer determined it was a faulty door latch assembly which seems to be impacting other ford vehicles.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, all the vehicle doors failed to lock. the contact also stated that the dome light was constantly illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that passenger side door module failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact stated that the battery to the vehicle had to be replaced twice due to the failure. the local dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, they filed a complaint with the manufacturer. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000. the vin was invalid.

I have had two door latches fail in the same vehicle within 2 years of each other. no matter whether the vehicle is moving or stationary, i got a warning stating the right rear (and now the right front) door was not closed when in fact it was. there is a faulty sensor in the door latches. this also prevents the child locks from engaging since it thinks the doors are open.

Door latch and door sensors over the course of at least a year, ford has been recalling vehicles because of a faulty door latch. ford has not recalled the flex. safety issues involved with the door latch include the inability to lock the door for safety because if the sensor registers the door is open, the door locks will not engage. there is also a knocking sound from the doors with a faulty latch. it sounds as if the latches are not fully engaged. as a result of the sensor problem, inside lights run for hours on end as if a door is open, running down a perfectly new and charged battery. i have spoken with ford corporate and dealerships about this problem but they said it will not be fixed on their dime until a recall is issued. assumingly, if other models are being recalled because of safety issues with the door latches, the ford flex, which also has door latch problems should be recalled for safety as well. ford is aware of the problem but would rather flex owners pay $500 per latch to ensure our family is safe while riding in a negligently manufactured vehicle. does it take a kid falling out of a ford flex for the recall to be issued?

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. the contact stated that the driver side door ajar light was constantly illuminated. the contact stated that due to the failure, the battery had to be replaced twice. the contact also mentioned that on a separate occasion, while reversing the vehicle the gear shift became inoperable without warning. the vehicle was restarted, and the vehicle operated as normal. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the local dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, they informed the contact that there were no recalls for the vehicle. the failure mileage was approximately 36,492. the vin was incomplete.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. the contact stated that the doors would constantly unlock and the door ajar sensor illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the latch assembly needed to be replaced the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000. updated 06/13/17*lj the consumer stated the door would not unlatch. also, the door sensor malfunctioned. when the doors were closed, the sensor would show the door as open. this would cause the car alarm to go off during the night. updated 09/07/2017*js

This 2013 ford flex has experienced several electrical, mechanical, and lighting issues. all 5 door latches, door sensors, car's alarm system, and battery has failed. the car's bcm has reported intermittent door ajar alarms. this effects the car's door locks as well as the car's dome light and car's alarm system. at no point will the car's doors lock while the car is in drive. so any child can open up a door while the car is in motion. the dome light comes on causing a vision glare at night. twice my wife has almost pulled out in front of oncoming motoris at night, do to the light glare within the car. because the car's dome light comes on intermittently, the car's battery drains down while parked. you cannot set the car's alarm without the door sensors setting the car's alarm system off. my local ford dealership has replaced all 5 door latches and sensors, the car battery, and the bcm at a financial loss to me at $1700.00. at no point has ford offered to help with these issues. now...it's time for the nhtsa to act and help protect the consumers before a tragedy strikes. luckily....i had the money to fix these issues to protect my family of six. thank you!

The driver's door latch does not read the door is shut, keeping the doors from being locked while the car is driven. also makes lights stay on so it kills the battery.

The door sensor is not functional causing the car to think the door is adjar causing issues with the battery, security system and owner safety. ford is charging 600 for parts and labor to install a new version knowing that the previous one is defective.

Door sensor indicates the door is open when it is closed. at times, the door is prevented from closing when a mechanism drops within the door panel. an item has to be placed in to push the mechanism up to allow the door to close. the door sensor mechanism, when it indicates the door is close although it is open, prevents the car doors from being locked.

The passenger side door locks and unlocks itself even while driving. i get a passenger door ajar warning even when the door is closed completely. the interior lights stay on after i have turned off and exited the car because it thinks the door is ajar. the alarm goes off often because the doors are locking and unlocking themselves and the car thinks the passenger side door has been opened when it is unoccupied. this happens when the car is stationary, in motion (even on the freeway) and also when the weather changes.

Right front side door is shown ajar. interior lights remain on. very dangerous do drive at night. battery will run down since lights will not turn off. on line string indicates very high incidence of faulty door switches.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. the contact stated that the door ajar warning indicator illuminated even when the doors were closed. the contact stated that due to the failure, the interior lights did not cease to function, the doors would not lock, and the horns would function independently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the interior door latches would need to be replaced. it was unknown if the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 39,000.

Instrument cluster indicates (1) or more doors open despite all doors being closed. occasionally, slamming door(s) will resolve; other times, lightly closing will satisfy the door switch. cold and wet weather seems to aggravate the issue...numerous times in which the door switch could not be satisfied, resulting in dome light staying on while driving, making night time driving very dangerous. issue has been on-going for past ~3 months. each door switch is approximately $500/ea, plus labor to install. dozens and dozens of other consumers mention similar problems per internet search. several of those consumers have indicated that replacement parts fail after short service time, too.

Right front door doesn't recognize that that it is closed. this has occurred intermittently for approximately 6 months and has resulted in all of the following problems numerous times (listed in order of my greatest to least safety concern): 1) unable to lock doors whether the vehicle is in motion or not. this problem concerns me the most as it could result in one of my small children opening the door and falling out at highway speed (or any speed for that matter). 2) battery drain. when the vehicle is off and the door doesn't recognize that it's closed, all interior lights remain on. because the vehicle has no way of disabling the interior lights, this has resulted in a dead battery on more than one occasion. 3) factory alarm sounding. when the door (latch sensor?) is functioning properly and the vehicle is off with the doors locked, if the door malfunctions it causes the alarm to sound. this has happened at all times of day, at various temperatures and in all weather conditions (dry, rain, snow, etc). this has led to the need for us to stop locking the doors when the vehicle is off.

Sensor indicates one of the back seat doors is ajar, but it appears to be closed. repeated closing of door does not resolve issue. car alarm sounds when vehicle thinks door is ajar. inside lights stay illuminated when driving. this problem has been occurring over the last few weeks. i see that there has been a recall on other models, i've seen similar complaints from flex owners online, and i believe the flex should be recalled as well, especially since they are family vehicles and often (as in my case) are used to transport multiple children. *tr

Both front door sensors indicate that the door is open when it is not, and this prevents the child safety locks from being engaged. the doors will not lock when the door sensor says that it is open. this happens with the car is in motion as well as when it is off. when it is off and this happens the alarm sounds.

Passenger driver side door always says ajar, doors don't lock, dome light always stays on. driving, and stationary. *tr

The sensors on the passenger rear door think that the door is open even when it is closed. my car alarm goes off constantly, the child safety latch won't engage, and my doors no longer automatically lock once i drive over 25 mph. this is an issue for every 2013 ford flex owner that is active online. ford knows this is an issue and isn't addressing it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. while driving approximately 46 mph, a panel on the front driver side windshield suddenly dislodged from the vehicle. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 32,000. ..updated 12/20/16 *bf the windshield molding blew off. updated 12/28/16.*jb

2013 ford flex sel. the door ajar warning light stays on. the front passenger door latch is faulty. with the door closed, the warning light stays on and the auto locks do not work now.

Door ajar sensor is faulty. this prevents auto locks from working, prevents proximity unlock from working, prevents door from locking properly and sometimes not at all, and may drain battery as well. this happens whether the car is stationary or moving.

Our ford flex says the right rear door is open even when it is closed. because of this the doors are not automatically locked while driving. we try and remember to lock the doors manually but on occasion it can be overlooked. on one of those occasions we were driving on a city street when my 3 year old son who was in the back seat grabbed the door handle causing the door to fly open while we were driving almost causing an accident.

We have had both rear door latches fail. the door ajar light remains on, and the interior lights will not turn off. we have had both replaced by the dealer, at a cost of approx. $500 for each.

For the past year my ford flex has an illuminated warning on the cluster that says that my passenger front door is not closed. this results in features of my vehicle not operating along with my interior lights coming on and the theft alarm going on when the vehicle is just sitting. this drains the battery resulting in a no-start. now my driver's door also comes on as not closed. the cluster tells me to turn the car off each time i brake the vehicle. i contacted ford last year and was told that there was no recall for this issue even though it is viral on the internet. i was waiting for them to do the right thing and my car is starting to leave me stranded. my ford fcsd person that i last spoke to told me to fix it on my own and keep receipts in case ford decides to recall. she said it will be safer to have it fixed. by not issuing a recall, i am making the assumption that there is no safety issue despite my vehicle detecting and announcing that my doors are not closed. this problem is an issue when the vehicle is on or off, standing still or mobile -- always. it happens in hot and cold temps. infrequently, vehicle detects the door as closed. ford has made modifications to this door latch (part # change) and i am hoping they do the right thing and repair these vehicles. i currently have 74000 miles and this first occurred at approx. 60000 miles.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. while operating the vehicle, a warning indicator erroneously illuminated, which indicated both the rear driver and passenger side doors were unsecured. the interior lighting remained illuminated inside the vehicle. upon inspection, is was also discovered that the battery cable line was corroded. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000. updated 01/10/2017*ct consumer stated both right and left passenger doors in back does not close right. updated 7/9/18*jb *tr

Front driver door latch sensor defective. this results in the following issues: door ajar warning light illuminates; interior lights remain on, even when driving; doors cannot be locked from inside the car if keys aren't in ignition (due to feature that is designed to prevent keys from being locked in the car); alarm goes off at random times; battery drains because interior lights stay on until battery-saver algorithm turns them off...although after many cycles, battery is drained down. this is a safety issue because: a) interior lights remaining on makes it difficult to see at night; personal safety risk since doors can't be locked; dead battery renders car inoperable.

2013 ford flex door ajar light stays on when doors are shut. driver door. dome lights stay on during initial reverse of vehicle causing zero visibility out rear of vehicle including side mirrors and rear view mirror. multiple instances of near misses due to loss of visibility.

Door latches are failing on both driver and passenger side similar to an existing ford edge recall. doors do not lock while driving and rear doors can be opened from the inside while in motion.

Rear door sensors do not confirm that the rear doors are closed and will not signal doors to lock when vehicle is in gear, creating the potential for a door to be opened inadvertently while in motion. also related, because the doors are constantly reading ajar, the interior courtesy lights will come on with the doors shut and will run down the battery. ford has not made a repair available

Driver side door latch malfunctioning causing "driver door ajar" warning, interior lights to remain on for extended period, and aftermarket alarm to sound. began at 36,347miles on 1/20/16 to present.

The driver side door will not register as being closed when it is actually closed.

Passenger door sensor is telling the instrument panel that the door is open when it is shut. it will not automatically lock or allow me to lock the door when car is in motion (it pops back up). when motor is turned off the interior lights stay on. for a long time indicating that the door is not shut. the frequency of this problem has worsened over the past few months. and now the seatbelt latch doesnt work properly

My passenger door light comes on when the door closed. causing my interior lights to stay on & keeps my doors from locking. this happens at different times at first it was when i first start the car now its coming on when driving down the road. now we are questioning the safety of my passanger when i'm driving down the road. this is also a issue when we get out of the car since it causes my interior lights to stay on unnecessarily for a length of time.

The door ajar sensor comes on when you get in and close the door.while driving the shift to park warning sensor comes on when you stop or yield.this happens over and over while driving. it's sensing door ajar therefore leaves all done lights on.if you slam door really hard sometimes lights will go off but you have to sit and watch to make sure.at night it's impossible to drive.very unsafe.sometimes i have to disconnect battery in fear of it dying and then be left stranded.they said it's the door hinge and parts are not available for 20 more days, i can't imagine dealing with this for that long for sure i'm gonna need a new battery.

Left front door show adjar when shut

Ford is having many issues with the door latches on the ford flex, ford edge and taurus. the faulty design doesn't relay to the computer that the door is actually closed when it is and tends to start a chain of events throughout the car. 1) at high speeds it will actually unlock all four doors. 2) it will also do it at every stop sign when the foot is removed from the brake pedal, which then allows the doors to be opened from the outside and inside so a child could actually open the door. 3) at all speeds including highway it will suddenly turn all interior lights on allowing the driver to be possibly blinded momentary until the speed sensor shuts the lights back off but then it flashes them again. 4) it will also not allow you to lock the doors at any time. 5) lights stay on thinking the door is ajar and with vehicle off will allow the battery to drop below safe operating levels before the batter save feature kicks in.

The door adjar light is coming on and it's the door sensors that are bad. there are thousands of complaint on this same issues. please make ford do a recall to fix this issue.

I bought a new 13 ford flex , that only my wife drives. a few months ago the door ajar warning kept going off when the door is closed. i just bought a $130 battery cause this drained the battery, i cant lock the car, and the alarm goes off all day. ford says its a bad latch cost is $515.40!! for a door not ever used

Driver's door latch ajar sensor malfunctioning. reads "door ajar" with door closed, have to repeatedly open and close door to get the sensor to read correctly, and it still doesn't work right. anti-theft alarm will randomly engage because the sensor is telling it the door is opened after being locked.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. the contact stated that when the front passenger side door was closed, the front passenger side door ajar warning light illuminated. in addition, the doors failed to lock when the vehicle was operated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 46,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. while parked, the contact heard a chime and the door ajar warning light illuminated even though the doors were closed. the contact had to remove the bulbs in the instrument panel to prevent the light from illuminating. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000. the vin was unavailable.

Door ajar warning lights when door is securely closed. this is a know issue with several ford service bulletins issued. there are definite safety concerns as the following also occurs: dome light stays on while driving making it difficult to see interior lights stay on when leaving vehicle allowing easy viewing of interior and possible battery drainage all doors will not lock (unacceptable) this is a major safety concern the false warning keeps driver from knowing if there is in fact a true door ajar situation ford refuses to fix this under warranty saying the door latch (which the door ajar switch is an integral part) is a "wear and tear" part and therefore not cover by warranty. this is an issue on many ford vehicles including flex, edge, explorer and taurus. *tr
