Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. while driving 10 mph and making a left turn, the steering wheel seized without warning. the driver powered off the engine while in traffic. once restarted, the vehicle resumed normal operation. the vehicle was later taken to banner ford (1943 n causeway blvd, mandeville, la 70471, (985) 234-5678) where it was diagnosed that the electric assist steering gear needed to be replaced. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

2013 ford flex. consumer writes in regards to illuminated power steering light. *ld the consumer state while driving the power steering went out with a very short notice. while attempting to stop the vehicle slowly ran over a curb. there was no damage. the manufacturer was notified and stated the vehicle was previously repaired for the failure. the manufacturer denied any additional assistance. the dealer denied assistance due to the code only showing that the vehicle failed due to impact, and not that the pscm failure was the cause of the impact.*js

While driving i lost all power steering and almost lost control, thankfully it didn't happen while my wife was driving with the kids. i was able to pull off the road and shut the vehicle off. i restarted and the power steering was restored. this occured several times over the next few days until the power steering just stopped working all together. i checked for recalls and found that there was a recall that included my make, model and year for the loss of power steering assist (recall #15s18) i made an appointment with the sarasota ford dealership and was told upon check in that my vehicle was not covered under this recall. the recall states that it covers model year 2013 ford flex with any engine. with a known, extreemly dangerous issue, i cant understand how my vehicle (expieriencing the exact issue described) is not covered.

While driving my 2013 ford flex the power steering disappeared and i almost lost control of the vehicle. i pulled over and turned it off, when i started it back up the power steering returned to normal. i stopped at my destination but when i returned to leave i found that the power steering was not responding. i drove it home with great difficulty. this repeated several times over the next two weeks, functioning at the start of the day but failing after the vehicle was turned off. the power steering finally gave out altogether. i checked and found that there was a recall that was announced on june 02 of 2015 for this exact issue covering ford flexes from 2010 to 2013. i scheduled an appointment with my ford dealership to get the issue resolved. i was told that my vehicle was manufactured a few months after the recall date, which covered vehicles manufactured up until feb 28th of 2012. i can't understand one, how does a recall cover the years 2010 to 2013 but has an end date for eligibility of 2012?, the recall was announced on june 02 of 2015 and my vehicle suffered the exact same issue of those that the recall extend to. as well as what was done to remedy the part failure after the june 02, 2012 date that my vehicle (suffering the same malfunction/failure and manufactured just outside of the end date of the recall) was not included in the recall? i have found that the issue is within the sealed steering assist assembly itself witch suffers heat damage due to the placement of other components. heat shielding within the unit has been reported to break down, resulting in the interior components to fail due to excessive heat exposure. *js *js

Power steering failed while i was driving on the highway at 70mph. thankfully i was able to successfully bring my vehicle to a stop which was after driving a mile with little-to-no steering. our mechanic informed us that this is definitely a part of the power steering recall on the 2013 ford flex, however when i pull my vin it appears there are no recalls. this is a huge safety concern as i drive 4 children in this vehicle daily. this is not something that i as a consumer caused - i perform my regularly scheduled maintenance and this is not something that i should have to foot the bill for.

Power steering assist fault.took a left turn on a main road in traffic and i hear "dingdingdingding" and the steering wheel pulled out of my hand and was fighting me to go straight, very heavily. almost went into oncoming cars as i tried to pull it back into the turn. almost hit a bus stop with people waiting, but i hit the curb. pinched a chunk out of the tire and scraped up the wheel. i looked it up and is same or similar to ford safety recall 15s18. my vehicle was made less than two months after the recall date limit, so ford claims it is not covered. i am just glad my wife was not driving it, especially with our kids in it. she could not have handled it and could have been very bad. there is no check engine light, no codes, nothing.just the warning displayed. then you press "ok" and it goes away with no more information.

Electronic power steering failure while highway driving between 50-55mph. instrument cluster warning message at exact moment of failure.

While backing out of my driveway the steering started fighting against my input. it became impossible to even park correctly back in the driveway. ended up leaving it in the grass. turned vehicle off, restarted engine and steering resumed to normal. now i don't trust the vehicle at driving speeds.

While driving the cars power steering just failed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. the contact stated that the electric power steering and advancetrac warning indicators illuminated. also, there was a loss of power steering and the steering wheel was extremely difficult to turn in either direction. tomball ford (22702 tomball pkwy, tomball, tx 77375, 281-351-3060) replaced the gear assembly, core, core return, a bolt and performed a wheel alignment. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was not available. the consumer stated the vehicle was not included in the recall. *js

I had problems with both the power steering and the fuel deliver on my flex. in both cases i found recall notices that are exactly the same as noted in the recalls. in the case of the power steering the dealer replaced the module for free because it was still under warranty but said my vehicle was not part of the recall. now i'm having problems with the fuel delivery exactly as described in the recall but the dealer still says my particular vehicle is not part of the recall. i believe there are more vehicles than originally determined that are having problems. the dealer in this case is village ford, 23535 michigan, dearborn, mi. 48124. the car had been sitting while i was working (9 hours) and would crank but not start.

My wife was driving our ford flex when the power steering gave out. not only did it give out it became violently hard to steer. luckily it was at low speed pulling out of our driveway. she did have the neighbors vehicles behind her, but was able to brake safely and avoid a collision. in doing my research i have noted that ford addressed this problem in these vehicles by a recall. my vehicle was just out of range and now my local ford dealer is telling me that they can not do anything for me. i cannot believe that ford can arbitrarily pick a date and cut off when there are obviously still problems with this steering system. my mechanic has advised me that the problem is the power steering module. the same module covered under ford recall 15v340000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. while driving various speeds, a grinding noise was present coming from the front end of the vehicle. later, while driving, the 'power steering fault' message displayed before the steering wheel seized. the vehicle was towed to the contact's home. the vehicle was taken to autonation ford burleson (850 n burleson blvd, burleson, tx 76028), but the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 162,000.

‏greeting, ‏i would like to file a complaint about the ford flex 2013 car. ford has already recall some ford 2013 cars with recall#15s18 but and excludes some of them from covering the recall, even though there are faults in those models. ‏the problem may cause collisions, because the steering wheel is not working properly. where the same issue and error message, as well as the repair method, and the car has not been abused, and the complete maintenance has been done with authorized dealership. everyone complains of the same problem and the company still evades responsibility. ‏the vehicle inspection report has been made by the agent, and the solution is matched with the mention in the recall. ‏desired settlement: ‏i think the recall #15s18 should be reviewed and verified to include all subsequent cars for that model. please note: i contacted bbb and file complaint and they instructed me to communicate with nhtsa to report this problem.

The epass electronic drive by wire steering system failed after 60k miles. this was the same epass system in the other 2013 ford flex that were part of the recall for the epass failure. when the epass system failed the vehicle lost power steering and couldn't be driven. i spent $2,500 on the new parts and my car was in the shop for a week.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. while driving 20 mph, the steering wheel was stiff and difficult to turn left and right. the contact called germain ford of beavercreek (located at 2356 heller dr, beavercreek, oh 45434, (937) 429-1300) to notify them of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 120,000.

Started up the car and i got power steering warning and advanctrac service warnings. unable to steer at all.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. while driving out of the driveway, the steering wheel seized without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact called stevens ford of milford (located at 717 bridgeport ave, milford, ct 06460, (203) 876-6464) and scheduled a diagnostic appointment. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 108,000.

The steering wheel on the vehicle is almost impossible to use. when steering it takes great force to turn the wheel one way or the other. feels like driving a car that has run out of power steering fluid, as though the steering has gone out. this has been happening for the past 12 months off and on and within the past month has become increasingly worse.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. while driving approximately 60 mph, the power steering suddenly malfunctioned and caused the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn in either direction. during the incident, the message 'power steering fault' was displayed. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the local dealer (caguas expressway motors, carr #1km 30.1, caguas, pr) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. the contact was informed that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the contact indicated that the vehicle experienced the same symptom listed in the recall. the failure mileage was 78,000.

This is the symptom here: summary ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 ford fusion vehicles without a 3.5l engine and lincoln mkz hybrid electric vehicles, 2011 mercury milan vehicles, 2011-2012 ford taurus, ford flex, lincoln mks, and lincoln mkt vehicles equipped with a 3.5l gtdi engine and 2013 ford taurus, ford flex, lincoln mks, and lincoln mkt vehicles equipped with any available engine. the affected vehicles have electric power steering assist systems that may shut down as a result of a steering motor sensor fault. consequence if the vehicle experiences a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. what owners should do ford will notify owners, and dealers will check the power steering control module (pscm) for diagnostic trouble codes (dtc). if dealers find any loss of steering assist dtcs, the steering gear will be replaced, free of charge. if, no codes are found during the pscm inspection, the pscm software will be updated, free of charge. the recall began on july 21, 2015. owners may contact ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. ford's number for this recall is 15s18.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. when making a turn, the steering made abnormal noises. there were no warning indicators illuminated. fox grand traverse (3464 us-31, traverse city, mi 49684, (231) 922-2000) informed the contact that the rack and pinion needed to be repaired. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000.

I was driving with my family when the car lost all ability to steer .we went off the road into a grass median strip . had the car towed to 5 star ford and was told they have had a lot of sensor problems . when i asked if there was a recal on it i was told no i did not have the $6,200.00 for them to replace the rack two sensors and red lash the computer so the car is in my drive way waiting for the funds to be repaired .there is a serious problem with this power steering system when it went out i lost total ability to steer

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. while attempting to pull out of the driveway at approximately 3 mph, the power steering ability became difficult and "service power steering assist" illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to smart ford (1103 martin luther king blvd, malvern, ar 72104) where it was diagnosed that the steering gear failed and needed replacement. the manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

There is a recall on the electronic power steering for certain 2013 ford flex's. recall 15s18. the manufacturer says that mine does not qualify for the but the vehicle has the same symptoms as the recall campaign. the power steering was out on my vehicle, it locked up around a curve when i was doing about 50 miles an hour. the vehicle would not turn right, i crossed a lane of oncoming traffic and hit a tree on sunday 11 18 18. i was on highway 70 in kingston tennessee, headed eastbound. the steering wheel is very loose and in a bind as if the steering wheel was locked with keys out of the ignition. i hit the tree doing about 35 mph to 40 mph when steering became inop and the airbags did not even deploy. i was fortunate enough to be able to slow the vehicle from 50 mph to around 35 miles an hour before striking the tree or could'vebeen much worse. i sustained shoulder injury and can only hope that this vehicle becomes part of the recall because i could have very easily hit somebody head on and killed someone or myself. very thankful to be here but this could have easily cost me my life.

The steering is off when turning left, right and while switching lanes. it's very hard to steer. it feels like a manual shift driving vehicle instead of automatic, having to use both hands just to turn the vehicle. it wasn't as hard at first to steer. you could tell the steering was off but still manageable. however, now it's at the point it's a must to get fixed. we scheduled an appointment to get it fixed now. i called the ford dealership but was informed there are no specific recalls for my vin#. i then called the number on owner.ford.com website and spoke with a representative who also said my vin doesn't have any recalls for steering. i referenced the recall# 15s18 as it relates to my problem. i was still informed my vin# is not a part of the recall but to hold onto my receipt from the repair shop in case it happens to become part of the recall then we can forward them the receipt. *tr

Was driving on the freeway and the power steering went out with no warning car shut down and was unable to stare

Car just dies in the middle of driving and the steering systemlocks up. there has been a known recall for a fuel control module on ford flex, there is also known fuel pump problems with ford makes and models. i have lost power twice. had at the mechanic last month. could not get it to die for an entire week in the shop. now it is dead in a parking lot again.

At 55,000 started up car put in drive and the power driving assit went on steering wheel locked up was unable to turn the car.

Well i was driving on the street and a light come up said power steering service after 10 seconds the steering wheel when super hard to turn and turn to the right side thank god i did not hit a car but i call to the dealer i tell them there was a recall for the steering gear rack and they said not for my car when this is happening and all ford flex 2013 the part cost $1300 brand new plus labor i don't know what to do and the seat belt is not working properly

While driving and parked the power assist goes out and becomes manual steering which is extremely difficult and dangerous.it has happened 3 time causing us an expense each time. there is currently a recall on this year and make for the steering but for some reason ford is not covering all of them. ours is one of them not covered and we obviously have the problem.

I filed a complaint about a week or two ago and haven't heard back. i was under the impression that you would respond within a couple of days.

Steering is stiff when turning left to right. feels like easy/hard-hi/low sensation. also high pitch squeal when turning steering wheel. noise is coming from engine compartment.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. while driving 5 mph, the steering wheel seized. a dealer was not made aware of the failure. the manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not covered under a recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 60,100.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. while driving various speeds, the steering wheel seized. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (mace ford, 4501 s us hwy 41, terre haute, in 47802), but the failure could not be duplicated. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 77,000. the vin was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. while operating the vehicle, the "power steering failure" message displayed and the power steering malfunctioned, which made the steering wheel very difficult to turn in either direction. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the local dealer (nashville ford, 723 s. davis st., nashville ga, 31639) and the manufacturer were both notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 86,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. after starting the vehicle, the steering wheel was very difficult to turn. moments later, while driving, the "check charging" indicator illuminated. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. the local dealer was not notified. the failure mileage was 109,000.

Ford flex power steering assist failure and trac control malfunction. the epas motor on millions of vehicles are failing and very dangerous for flex owners. i have found that from research on this issue that the epas motor is actually overheating and burning up the electric motor. ford manufacturer has deliberately lied to nhtsa about what the actual problem is. this is a very unsafe condition for which they presented a recall on certain 2013 vehicles. i spoke with my local dealership about the issue and they responded that my vin number does not fall in the campaign or technical service bulletins. campaign for the recall is exactly what is going on with my vehicle but yet ford wants to charge me money for the repairs and diagnostic when they are well aware that this is a manufacturer issue. it is a very unsafe condition which has killed and injured people. they just haven't gotten to the point to where they admit that it is on way more vehicles than they are admitting to. i am very disappointed that nhtsa is not forcing ford to repair the vehicles that have the symptoms of the exact recall on a case-by-case basis at very least. i was traveling around 70 miles an hour down interstate i-40 when system failed and almost flipped my vehicle. how can a dealership not be responsible for this or how many people have to die before they do take responsibility? recall number is 15 s18 or 15v340000. ivoq n n n n 70 v n n

Repeated steering failures. initial failure (spring 2016) occurred several months after collision repair (december 2015) done at dealer service department. repaired vehicle came back with tighter steering than previously experienced. failure in spring 2016 involved complete loss of power steering upon startup of vehicle. shut down and restart did not restore power steering operation. steering gear replaced by dealer service department. second failure (spring 2017) involved loss of traction control, stability control, cruise control due to failure of power steering control module. power steering control module replaced by dealer service department. third failure (november 28, 2017) is loss of power steering gear upon vehicle startup. shut down and restart restored power steering operation.

Power steering has gone out a few times in my flex. first time was after it was parked, the wheels were turned out, it was started, and it was very difficult to turn and maneuver the vehicle in the parking lot. second time, was this miring, i backed out of the driveway, and when i put the car in drive on our street it was again very hard to steer. both times when i turned the car off and back on, it was like nothing was wrong.

My ford flex stalls while driving anywhere from 10 mph (in residential area) to 80 mph on highway. electrical is still working the engine shuts off and i lose control of gas/brakes. three warning signs pop up at the same time: check brake system, collision warning not available, and service advance trac. once i restart the car, the codes will disappear. the problem was intermittent at first, but now it's occurring more frequently. i'm too scared to drive my car now. ford isnt being much help. i need help.

Over the past 6 months, my power steering would fail leaving me in manual mode. i would stop and restart the car and the power would return. i took the car in this week and it will now cost me $2000 to repair it. prior to taking it to my dealership, i researched possible recalls. sure enough, there was one in 2015 for "certain" 2013 ford flex. but my vin was not in the recall. i called ford customer service and all the representative did was read scripts to me letting me know that my car was not in the recall. this is the second thing on my car that has gone wrong that was covered for other "certain" flex--the first was the fuel pump. disappointed that identified problems are not covered for all!!!

I was pulling into my driveway and my steering column locked up completely. the idiot alarm started going off and i received and error code. the error read power steering failure. i took it to tire kingdom and they said i was part of the 15v3400000 recall. i called ford and they would not cover the repair even though it's exactly the same safety recall issue i am having and my car is on the recall list. they said sorry your vin isn't listed as being affected. it's clearly the same issue and is. wing affected. it's dangerous that i wasn't notified and now that i'm having the problems that caused the recall in the first place they still won't fix it.

I was doing a u-turn on a cul de sac and all of a sudden the steering wheel jerked and the motor died and when i restarted the car i had no power steering capabilities and the warning lights for the power steering control and the advance trac came on and the turn signals would not stay on without holding them in the up or down position.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start upon turning the key in the ignition. the vehicle was towed to buckeye ford lincoln (2343 w michigan st, sidney, oh 45365, (800) 700-0050) where it was diagnosed with a fuel pump module failure and the fuel pump needed replacement. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. the vehicle was then towed back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rcm module needed replacement. upon further investigation, the failure was discovered to be a wiring issue from the fuel pump repairs. the vehicle was rewired. the contact stated that the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. while driving various speeds, the steering seized and the power steering was lost without warning. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a steering rack failure, which needed replacement. the contact stated that the vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. the manufacturer's was made aware of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 72,018.

I was driving down the street and all of a sudden my power steering went out. this has happened many times before and i would try to get to a point where i could pull over to the side of the highway, restart the car and it would be good. this time it didn't work. i have been on roads in curves many times and it would go out in the middle of them. i shuttle my kids everyday and this is dangerous for them and myself. i search for a recall a while back and didn't see anything. i am a single mother of 3 and i don't have money to spend out on something like this when it should not be a problem i'm having with a fairly new vehicle. i was told the problem is the power steering gear and the angle position sensor. i have noticed that other 2013 ford flex were issued a recall for this problem, but mine was not. i called the ford manufacturer and spoke with 3 different representatives (reps) and a supervisor. two reps told me there was nothing they could do and the other rep and supervisor stated i would need to take my vehicle to a ford service department at a dealership and it would be their discretion on whether they will fix it, discount it or something. i don't think it is the dealership's responsibility as they did not make the vehicle, they only sell them. i spoke with the service department manager at lance cunningham ford in knoxville, tn and he agreed and stated he didn't know why they would tell me that. he was also nice enough to say that he would help me out the best he could because he wanted to keep me as a customer. please help me! i do not think it is a coincidence that the same issue is happening to my vehicle as it has others made the same time as mine. i have also read other complaints after researching that many other customers in ford vehicles (focus, fusion, etc.) are having the same issues and the majority of our vehicles are less than 5 years old.

I parked my car to go food shopping and when i came back to leave, the steering wheel became locked and it would not turn

The electric steering is making a clunk noise when turning at low speeds. (can't really hear it at higher speeds) that is an early warning of an epas failure. (electric power assist steering) eventually the steering will whine and fail when driving going into manual mode. that is a safety issue! since my wife is driving the car with my young daughter it has me nervous and worried.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. upon starting the vehicle, the power steering and assist trax warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (bob wondries ford 400 s atlantic blvd, alhambra, ca 91801 (626) 289-3591) where it was diagnosed that the steering wheel module malfunctioned and needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact researched recalls online and found nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the vin was not included in the recall. the failure mileage was approximately 66,000.

Over the last few months, as i am driving my vehicle, my steering will seize and stop operating. the computer comes up with the following message, "power steering assist failure". i took the car to a mechanic to have it diagnosed and was told there is a safety recall for this exact issue. the information is as follows: nhtsa campaign number 15v340000, ford flex 2011-2013, ford recall #15s18. i called the local ford dealership, bird kultgen, and they stated that it does not pertain to my vehicle because when they pulled my vin, it did not give them a recall message. i called the ford company and they said the same thing. the recall listed is for ford flex 2013, which is what i have. both the ford dealership as well as the company stated - sorry. isn't it possible for this to have an effect on other vin's as well? that is what i was asking for them to look into. if my steering fails, and i am on the highway, which is what i drive daily to work, i will crash. the dealership as well as ford stated - maybe it will come up in a week, who knows.
