We have classified the 2 complaints from 2013 Ford Fiesta about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
4/2019 found out about door recall. quirk ford said they fixed all 4 doors before i bought the car in 9/2016 however 4/2019 my back drivers side door latch broke and i could not lock the door. it kept opening while driving. fixed it. 10/19 my front passenger door had the same issue and the cable in the door broke as well. kept opening when driving even though i tied it with a cord. nothing happened to the doors prior to the latches failing. got this fixed i am afraid this may happen with the other doors and result in a serious accident. i feel they are still using defective latches.
Locks flew open again when i was driving on the freeway. this time the lock on the passenger side. the door opened suddenly as i was driving on the highway. a few months ago, the driver's side had the same problem. i took it to ford and they refused to repair it because they said there is no recall for this car. i reported it but it seems there was no feedback from this website either. nobody called or emailed.
Second door latch broke in less than two weeks apart from the last door latch failure. submitted complaint number 11222994, about rear passenger door latch failure. took that in to be fixed july 3rd. now my front passenger door is broken. haven't seen an investigation started and have not been reached to about my previous complaint. i am now worried about my child and am scared every time i put her in the back seat i'm wondering when will this door break? when will ford start an investigation and get this fixed? put out another recall! and when i call the dealership to make an appointment for them to fix my vehicle they say they don't have an appointment til the beginning of august. this is a safety issue and needs to be resolved asap! i don't want to wait three weeks for something that should be fixed asap!
Driver side door latch will not catch and flies open. luckily when the latch malfunctioned i was in a parking lot and not driving. i left my car in my work parking lot in the am and came out of work in the pm to realize that my car door did not latch when i shut it and no longer latches. took to local ford dealership (lance cunningham ford - knoxville tn) and was told it would be 456.00 to fix. when asked about the recall for the exact problem (safety recall 15s16) i was told that my car did not qualify. the car has 45,600 miles on it.
My 2013 ford fiesta doors have become unlatched 4 times. the first time while i was driving on the the highway, the second time while i was driving on the city street, the third time when i made a right turn on the city street and the 4th time driving home on the city street. i have had to attach cords to my doors to keep them closed each time they have swung open. i took the car to gwinnett place ford 3 times but the 4th time i took the car to angela kraus ford to get out of the vehicle. my children have been in this vehicle with the door latch failing. instead of ford getting me out that vehicle and replacing it with another with the same value they instead treated me twice as if i was a regular customer trading in the car and i was asked to put money down for another vehicle and add a co-signer, which i don't have so i was denied another vehicle. i purchased the car from us auto sales and they too allowed me to drive away from the lot with cords holding my door together because they couldn't approve me for another car. i refuse to put my children and myself back in that dangerous vehicle. i don't know what to do now, the car is just sitting in my parking lot with cords keeping the door closed.
Ford fiesta 2013 door lacth not working. door flew open as driver was driving down a highway. driver had to hold door and drive to safety, then tie the door with a string to go home. ford ted britt chantilly service manager refused to fix, and ford customer service refused to fix. the recall notice is on the internet recall no. 15s16. notice says all should be replaced, but ford has refused to replace, saying vin number is not included
Driver door latch won't close and latch. vehicle was parked. called ford dealer who stated my vehicle does not have a recall. research indicates there's a problem with my vehicle year, make and model door latches. please help!
Rear passenger side door no longer latches and falls open when turning a corner. even if parked on a slope the door will hang open
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fiesta. the contact stated that the driver's side door failed to close. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage and vin were not available.
Passenger side rear door latch will not secure. my 8 year old daughter was in the seat when failure occurred. there is a recall for my model year for this defect, but dealer states my vin is not among those that received recall notice. vehicle was in a parking lot when failure occured.
Vehicle was repaired under door latch safety recall in september 2015 after right rear door (passenger) would not shut and latch failed. according to dealership that performed recall they state they replaced all four door latches however the left rear door (driver) is now having the same latch issue. door will not shut and needs to be held closed with devices to remain shut to operate the vehicle. 2 dealerships refuse to perform another replacement without fee. document are available if needed however they are not scanned into this computer and can not be uploaded at this time.
Front passenger door lock latch failed while driving. son was in passenger seat at time of failure and almost feel out. door latch would no longer secure. door latch failed while vehicle was in motion making a low speed turn. vehicle vin not covered under existing ford recall from 2015.
In 11/2015 the door latches were replaced on my 2013 ford fiesta per a safety recall. in 5/2018 the door latch on the front driver's side failed, my daughter, who was going to school away from home, was parked on the street and as soon as she pulled into traffic her door flew open and would not stay closed almost causing an accident. i did have the latch replaced at a repair shop since ford wasn't able to fix it right away and it needed to be fixed asap. when my daughter returned home from school a few weeks later i took the car to the dealership where the car was purchased complaining about the faulty latch wanting to know how it could have failed and expressing my concern of the safety of the vehicle. they had no answer for the failure and also said that the "warranty on the recall part had elapsed and once the recall was completed any obligation on ford's part was over". i found this unacceptable and they suggested i voice my complaints to ford owner relations, which i did. i contacted them and voiced my concern about the recall part failing after 2 1/2 years. i said that something must still be wrong with the latches for this to happen. i also requested assurance of the safety of the vehicle going forward and asking if they will be responsible should this happen again and this time with a more serious outcome? i also asked since the failed latch was replaced at an outside shop and not ford would ford be responsible if that one were to fail? their response was, "unfortunately, i am unable to provide you with the information you are requesting". they then suggested contacting nhtsa. i let them know that i was very upset that nobody will take responsibility or give me a reason for the failed latch or can assure me of the safety of the vehicle in the future. they apologized and said they would document my satisfaction.*dt consumer stated door latches have been replaced by the dealer at no cost.*jb
All 4 door latches were replaced on 23 may 2015 under recall #15s16. at that time, the car had 44,592 miles. on monday, 23 april 2018, the driver's door refused to latch. when you tried to close it, if flew open again. the car now has 66754 miles. it seems that the original latches were better than the replacement latches. fortunately, this happened as i was preparing to leave the house. we duct taped the door from the outside and took it to the garage, no recall, more than a year since replacement, ford denies responsibility. i wanted to report this i case others had this problem. i have to fix it, it is costing me over $350.
This has happened 2 times. jan 20, 2016. front passenger door opened in motion on a city street. a passenger was in the seat. the "latch" would not allow door to stay closed. recall #15s16/15v-246. we received a letter informing us what the problem was but part was not yet available for repair. latch was fixed in january of 2016. july 21st 2017, rear left passenger door, with a passenger in the seat, flung open while making a right turn on a city street, door would not latch and stay closed. ford would not cover the repair when we first brought it in because the replacement was out of the 1 year warranty. july 25, 2017 were quoted $300 to get the latch fixed. after complaining with ford and ford service manager we were quoted $150, only 1 year warranty. that tells me ford is not confident in there product or repair to only give a 1 year warranty. the latches were apparently the new and improved but it malfunctioned 17 months later, unacceptable, there has been no recall as of august 1, 2017 for the replaced latches.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fiesta. the contact stated that while stopping at a traffic sign, the driver side door independently opened. the vehicle was towed to local dealer where it was diagnosed that the latch failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the local dealer, advantage ford lincoln 1031 central avenue, durante, ca 91010 informed the contact that the parts would be available in august of 2017. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v246000 (structure), however the parts to remedy the vehicle where not available. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, they informed the contact that the case was being reviewed. the contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer. the failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Placed a case of water in the rear seat on the passenger side after grocery shopping. door made a worrying "thunk" when closed and came right back open. inspected latch; no longer locks in place when closed. luckily wife was with me and able to hold the door closed on the way home.
Car was parked in my driveway. opened door and put items inside. closed back back passenger door on my 4 door hatchback and the lock broke for no reason at all. door would not lock or stay closed as the part broke for no reason.
The passenger door came open while the car was in motion in the freeway, there was no passenger riding at the time, and the car door was locked. the latch came loose. the vehicle mileage is about 43,200 miles.
Background: nhtsa case no. 861644 , recall no. 15v246000 on september 15, 2015, the front right door of my vehicle failed to latch while i was unloading groceries while parked in my driveway. this problem was fixed by shamaley ford as a recall repair. in september 2015, shamaley ford stated to me, and apparently also to ford motor co., that all four door latches were replaced, not just the front right door latch that failed. on july 31, 2016, i put one bag of groceries in the back seat and, i thought, closed the rear left door. i drove out of the parking lot. about a half-block away, i saw a dashboard warning light that my rear left door was not closed. i pulled off the road and attempted to close the door. i could not close the door. the latch of the rear left door of the vehicle failed. i do not know if the rear left door came unlatched while i was driving, or if i failed to notice the latch failure in the parking lot before driving off. the left rear door is held closed at this time by a bungee cord between the door arm rest and the front passenger seat head rest. i am taking the vehicle to shamaley ford for service on august 2 at 7:00 a.m. i put approximately 12,050 miles on the vehicle between the september 2015 latch installation and the latch's failure on july 31, 2016.
I purchased a 2013 ford fiesta i purchased on december 23, 2015 at the laurel, maryland carmax store. on saturday, september 24th, i went to jim coleman toyota to buy a toyota prius. they examined my ford for its trade-in value. the manager, who was a former carmax manager, examined the car and informed me that my ford fiesta has unibody damage. the rear driver's side as be replaced. the car has unibody damage was not disclosed to me when i purchased this car on december 23, 2015. i purchased the car for $14,000, which is far above the blue book value of $9,419. in march 2016, i bought the car to carmax in laurel for overheating. the heat pump was replaced for $250. additionally, on september 15th, i paid for repairs at the carmax gaithersburg store. the repairs were for the following: 1-front passenger door latch;2-truck latch; and 3-horn i was charged $250 to repair critical safety features. while the car was in gaithersburg, the battery drained. the car door could not close, so the interior lights remained on. i reported the door latch problems on monday, august 29th. the car was in park. my sister and i were trying to leave for church and the door would not close. however, i was not given an appointment until september 8th in gaithersburg and september 13th in laurel. that was quite a long time to wait for such a critical issue. i would have never purchased a car with unibody damage had it been disclosed. to be charged for a recall item that should have been repaired prior to purchase, is unconscionable. i am totally outraged.
The transmission has been slipping constantly. when starting from a dead stop the transmission slips preventing its from catching the first two gears. also the passenger side door latch will not close. the door all of a sudden came open while driving. this car is unsafe.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fiesta. the contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the service engine warning light illuminated intermittently. in addition, the transmission hesitated. the contact also stated that while driving, the door popped open without warning and could not be closed. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the door latches needed to be replaced and the transmission needed to be repaired. in addition, there was a manufacturers recall on the engine warning light. the vehicle was not repaired for the failures due to the parts not being available. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 32,000.
While taking the baby to visit the grand parents, we arrived there and taking the baby out of the car the passenger rear door popped open and would not latch. we had to tie the door closed. the car is not safe to drive in this condition, rely on ropes and bungee cords to keep the door closed. it offers no protection in the event of a crash. this condition should be reported to the car owners now, they should have to wait for doors on the vehicle to pop open to find out they have a problem with the car.
While driving on the freeway, my passenger door suddenly swung wide opened. i had to pull over and then hold the door all the way to dealership. the dealer said they will fix the passenger door only since they were not allowed to fix the rest of the doors even though all 4 doors are in recall. my car have been with the dealer for the past two weeks since there is no part to fix my door latch. its very unsafe to drive this car and ford do not care about it.
Door latch failed, door had to be tied shut to operate.
While driving on the freeway, my back door suddenly swung wide opened. my dog was in the back seat and i had to grab her before she flew out. i had to pull over then hold the door shut all the way to the dealership. once at the dealership they fixed one door, and said they were not allowed to fix the rest even though all 4 doors are recalled.... my dog could have died, and if it was a child leaning on the door when it opened they could have been killed as well. ford doesn't care that this vehicle is not safe.
The rear passenger side door, where my son sits in his booster, stopped closing one afternoon on our way to his soccer game. i used a piece of rope to tie the door across the car to the door opposite until i could get my car into the ford dealership the next day. i searched the internet and saw an article regarding other 2013 ford fiesta's having the same issue. i took my vehicle the next day to the dealership and since i was there i let them know that my car, which only had 15k miles on it, has a problem with acceleration. when i accelerate i hear an airy sound coming from the engine and i lose power so that i accelerate very slowly. this is a huge safety issue when getting onto the highway. i was advised when i picked up the car that the lock was a recall item as was an issue with the cooling system that they fixed. in addition, when they checked for the airy sound they found i have a bad transmission. my service rep said the transmission was on back order for 30 days. that was may 2015. today is 11/2/2015 and i still do not have the parts to replace my transmission. i have asked several times if i could have a rental car or borrow a car from ford until my transmission is fixed due to the low acceleration and have been told time and again that they can not "authorize" it.
This past saturday, i opened my rear passenger side door, and it took a few attempts to close it again. it did not want to latch. i wasn't sure why it happened, and all but forgot about it. later in the day, i picked up some friends from the airport, and the same thing happened. i opened the door to load in a suitcase and it took several attempts to get it to latch closed again. then, on sunday, i lent my car to my visiting friends, and while they were driving the door popped open. it did not fly open or cause alarm, it just came unlatched. when they stopped the car they used the seat belt to hold the door closed. they texted me to let me know what was happening. we discovered that just only two days earlier a recall had been issued on the door latches on my make and model of car. the most frustrating part is that the dealership says they are not ready to fix the problem. so far they have not received instructions or parts yet. i have an appointment scheduled on june 9th to address another recall issue concerning an emissions part, but i was informed that only if the dealership had the parts and instructions would they address my open door problem. so i will be driving around for at least 5 weeks with a door that won't close. that can't be safe. meanwhile if the door is not tied tightly the interior light stays on. fortunately there wasn't anyone in the back seat when the door popped open. *tr
Door latch on rear passenger failed for no apparent reason. *tr
Upon closing rear passenger door, the door latch broke and would not allow the door to shut or the vehicle to be secure. this occurred away from home and was problematic in that the vehicle could not be secured, locked or shut. we had to strap the door shut until we could obtain repair, which cost around $500. *tr
Twice as i was entering into an intersection during a left hand turn the passenger door (first time) flung open. i could not close it so i drove with the seat belt tide to the door for 4 miles to the nearest ford dealer for service. they acknowledged that this has happened to other drivers. these latches are apparently defective. ford only replaced the defective door latch letting me drive off with the possibility of other latches failing in the future. saturday evening before easter the rear passenger door flew open as i was driving through an intersection. since the door did not close the cabin light stayed on until they finally got to fixing it. again they can only fix the bad door latch, and will not replace the other two. this is a very very very hazardous issue which could become deadly to bicyclists or pedestrians. *tr
The car was parked. i opened the right rear door to pull something out and when i closed the door it bounced back. the door does not latch and is stuck open. i made sure there are no obstructions. i tried slamming it, closing it slowly but firmly, i fiddled with the latch and the child safety lock but had no luck. it just won't stay closed. *tr
I got out of my car, closed driver's door, it wouldn't catch on the latch. the door mechanism is not in the closed position indicating it was stuck. the door mechanism is in the open position and won't catch on the latch. *tr
The rear door behind the driver would not close. i discovered that the rear door latch mechanism broke causing the door to not close. *tr
The doors on my 2013 ford fiesta will not latch. it came unlatched while driving and all 3 of my children were in the back seat. *tr
Rear passenger door will not stay closed. latch will not hold. *tr
Car was parked and i opened the back passenger door to put something in, then closed the door. just before backing out, door indicator light came on that the back passenger door was open. the back door was not latched closed. when i tried to close it, it does not stay latched. currently the door is kept closed with a bungee cord and a zip tie. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2013 ford fiesta. the contact stated that the front passenger side door locking mechanism failed and the door would not remain closed while driving. in addition, the vehicle interior ceiling light would remain on while operating the vehicle because the door could not be secured. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 40,999.
The rear passenger door does not stay closed and will fly open while driving if not secured with rope. *tr
The rear door on the passenger side will not latch shut or stay closed. the majority of the time i'm the only person who uses the car, so i primarily use the driver door. today, i opened and closed the rear passenger side door twice, and the second time i attempted to close it, it failed to latch and i haven't been able to latch it shut since. *tr
I went to close the back passenger side door and the latch wouldn't catch all of a sudden. with no prior incidents or indication of an issue, the latch just broke - when i took it to the dealership, they said they have had a lot of these types of issues happen because of faulty defective latches from the manufacturer. 3 months later and the front passenger door latch does the same exact thing. and i haven't gotten one notice on this defective latch, before or after my incident. i would think safety would be a major concern for ford - who would want their doors not being able to shut?? since they acknowledged other cars having the same issue, i don't believe i just received a lemon, but i sure won't be buying ford again! *tr
Rear passenger door fails to stay closed. door latch fails to keep door shut. *tr
The passenger door will not close. *tr
The front doors to my 2013 ford fiesta would not latch properly after unlocking, getting into my car and trying to close them. the latch would not close, therefore leaving my doors unable to close and making the car non-drivable. to be fixed, the entire locking mechanism needed changed costing $785 dollars to repair. recently this past week, the same thing happened to my rear driver side door while i was getting ready to turn onto the interstate to go to work. the door swung open, making it very unsafe to operate on the road, and i turned around to go back home to switch to my wife's car. again, the whole mechanism needed changed to repair to the cost of $345 dollars. a car that is 2 years old with less than 50k should not have big and potentially dangerous issues such as this. hopefully ford will do the right thing a do a recall for this model. *tr
Front passenger door latch broke internally. the door will no longer latch. it was not abused just closed normally. this is the second time this has happened. the first was the passenger rear door about 2/3 months previous. *tr
The car was parked and turned off. rear passenger side door was opened and then attempted to close. the door would not close. it bounced of the car. after several attempts and about 10 minutes later the door closed. i have not tried opening it again and i am scared the door will open while driving. *tr
After the car was stopped and turned off, the rear passenger door was open and would not close. this door is rarely, if ever, used. the door had to be tied to the driver's side passenger door with a tie-down in order to keep the door closed so that the car could not be stolen. the interior lights remained on so the battery had to be disconnected, and then reconnected the next morning so it could be driven to the dealer. my car is out of warranty by only a few hundred miles. i had to pay to fix this obvious manufacturer defect and safety issue. i also had to pay for a rental car so i could go to work. i opened a case with ford, requesting a refund. my case was escalated to a regional customer manager, who was supposed to contact me by 6:00 eastern time today, but she did not. now ford is telling me i may have to call back monday, so here the runaround begins. *tr
I was driving approximately 40 mph when the right rear door of my vehicle flew open rapidly. i was afraid of the door striking another vehicle or injuring my passenger and had to quickly pull over. in order to pull over safely, the passenger was forced to grab ahold of the door so that i could steer the vehicle out of traffic. once i reached the side of the road, we examined the door, at first thinking that perhaps it had been improperly shut. we discovered, in fact, that was not the case. there was some defect in the car that caused the door to fly open while the vehicle was in motion. the car was not drivable as-is because the door would not latch so we had to tie the door shut from the interior to drive it home safely. the dealership mechanic was not open at that time. once home, i could not activate the alarm system so the car sat unlocked overnight with the interior lights on. the lights would not shut off because the door would not close. i drove the vehicle to the ford dealership mechanic as soon as they opened the next morning and had to miss half a day of work because of the issue. it took several hours for the dealership mechanics to fix the latch and they referred me to ford motor company to voice my complaints and concerns about a defect that caused me to fear for my safety and that of my passenger. i filed a claim with fmc. two weeks later i received a letter from ford motor company saying that my case had been closed. fmc offered me no explanation of or resolution to this serious safety concern. *tr
First time: 10/10/2014 during the morning, the car was put in movement and the right front door opened by itself and it did not close again. the dealer service department found that it was a latch failure, they had to replace it. second time: 03/26/2014 during the night the car was getting park and then the right back door opened by itself and it did not close again. the dealer service department found another latch failure, they had to replace it. *tr
