We have classified the 4 complaints from 2012 Ford Fiesta about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
The door latch for my passenger door refuses to close. the door swings freely and cannot latch to the car. my passenger almost fell out of the car. very dangerous and scary situation trying to drive. this is the second time this has happened the first incident was a rear passenger door not latching. the door latch needs to be recalled. *tr
Driving home from work dash indicator warned passenger rear side door was not latched (came open). stopped and was unable to get door to latch - tied a strap to it to hold it shut. this is the second incident of latch not holding door closed on this fiesta. ford dealership, energy country in port arthur, tx, replaced passenger door latch when it did the same thing. very dangerous and getting rid of this vehicle asap. *tr
Just got done putting bags in my back seat through the rear passenger door. i closed the door and then got in my car and left my house. i turned left out of my neighborhood and the rear passenger door just flew open. i got out to investigate and my door would not shut. i tried over and over again. the latch moved freely at every positron. it is broken internally in the latch or something. this is a very dangerous situation to be in. i have two children in car seats. what if they were in the back seat. this seems to be a issue with these cars and if needs to be addressed before someone gets seriously hurt or even killed. *tr
Car was in motion on the freeway passenger side door flew open and would not stay shut. pulled over checked incident door would not close at all. inside lights would not shut off car alarm will not activate. dealership (ford) wants to charge for another 218$ for replacement part plus inspection fee. so car passenger door is now tied with rope to hold shut.fuse was pulled for lights inside(for batteries sake) passengers now have to climb through driver side of car. *tr
I was driving along and turned the corner and the back door swung open. i pulled over and tried to shut the door and it would not shut. i tried to see what was wrong and the latch seemed to be in an open position but would not engage,. i did not know what to do i went to walmart and purchased some cord so i could tie the doors together. i searched the internet about the problem and there seem to be a problem with the fiesta door latches. i took the car in to palm springs ford on friday , november 14 2014 and after 2 hours was advised it was not covered under the warranty since my warranty was expired after 36,000 miles and they want over 300 dollars with parts and labor to fix the door latch that is obviously should of been a recall from ford since so many people have had that problem with the latches. the service advisor stated that i should call the customer service line which i did and they opened up a case which i handed back to the service advisor, and got a call several days later to advise me that my warranty is out and i would have to pay. i asked the service advisor to have his manager call me. a few hours later the service advisor called back and stated that his manager said he would give me the part at 1/2 price. i asked him to have his manager call me and to this date have not heard from him. i called twice today and asked the service advisor to cal me and still have not heard from him.. i don't' feel like i should have to put out that kind of money on a defective part when ford knows that this part is defective. *tr
Passenger side door failed to latch and remains open. need to be tied down to be able to use the vehicle. approximately 6 months ago the rear passenger side door had the same problem and had to be taken to the dealership to be fixed. *tr
My child went to get into the car this morning and the rear passenger door would not latch. as my only transportation, i had to tie the door shut just to transport my kids and the door is still not completely shut. this is so unsafe for people that this should be recalled immediately. *tr
Rear passenger door latch assembly has broken, the door will not catch and stay closed. after opening the door to get our two year old grand daughter out of the car the door would not re latch. what if this would have allowed the door to come open when driving? *tr
While driving out of my neighborhood my rear passenger door latch stopped working. the door swung open as i turned the corner. one could only imagine how terrifying this was for my 7 year old who was sitting right next to that door as it flew open. *tr
I opened the rear passenger door to vacuum my 2012 ford fiesta at a car wash and when i finished i noticed the door would not close. the latch will not catch the door. i had to drive all the way home with my rear door open risking it swinging open in traffic. i'm currently awaiting a response from ford. *tr
I dropped my son off at his home and he opened the passenger side back door to retrieve his things and then he shut the door and went inside. inside the car i noticed that the door ajar warning was on and i got out of the car to close the passenger side back door, but the door would not shut. after looking at it for several moments it appeared that the back door latch was broken. i got back into my car, moved it back out of the way and turned off the engine, then text my son who came back out and managed to tie my door up with a bungee cord so that i could get home (40 miles away). since it was late when i got home i called the dealer as soon as i was able and the service guy told me that it would be $550 ish to get it fixed. i have been driving around for 6 months hoping that there would be a recall for this defect and hoping that none of the other door latches would break. recently i heard that ford had issued a recall for this problem but so far my vin is not showing up for the recall. *tr
Passenger rear door won't close. latch stays open. rear door rarely used. this should not happen on a 2 plus year old car with that door being rarely used. *tr
The right rear-door on my 2012 ford fiesta one day failed to latch, and it hasn't latched since. the door is now sitting ajar at all times and i have to tie it closed. the "door ajar" warning light on the dash comes on randomly as i drive down the road or turn corners, and the "door ajar dinging sound" plays randomly. i took it in to a ford dealership to have it looked at, as well as see if anyone else has had this issue. the gentleman said no one has had any door latch issues on the 2012 ford fiesta. he gave me an estimate of $418 to have it replaced -- but i found this article that says different. http://www.autoblog.com/2014/09/15/nhtsa-ford-fiesta-door-latch-investigation/ *tr
I have a 2012 4-door ford fiesta. while the car was parked in the driveway, my 42 year old son opened the rear passenger side door, and was unable to close the door, as the latch failed. i called the dealer where i purchased the car from, and have, as yet, to hear from them. the door will not close, i cannot allow my 10 year old granddaughter, or anyone else to ride in the back seat, as it is a safety issue. i have tried to secure the door shut (tied down), but the interior light comes on when i drive over the slightest bump or make a turn, because the door is open. there is a constant warning on my dashboard about the open door. at night, it's difficult to drive with the interior lights on, another safety issue. the car is only 2+ years old. this should not be happening. *tr
Rear passenger door, driver's side. i opened the door to get something out, never coming close to the latch, and when i went to close it, the latch didn't latch. it could not be corrected with manually moving it. have to take to shop now! only 37,000! *tr
I was driving to work on the freeway and the light came on for my door being open. i pulled over and both my passenger front and back doors were open. when i tried to close them they would not close. going to the dealership to see what they can do. ford needs to fix this problem. i could have gotten seriously hurt. *tr
I had just left my home with my wife and child. as we drove up the block, i noticed the light was on indicating a door was open. my wife pushed on her door to check and it was not latched. she tried to pull the door closed again and it would not latch. i had to bring the car back home and secure the door with a bungee cord the car is going to the dealer this morning. *tr
When exiting the vehicle the right rear passenger door would not stay closed. door had to be tied closed to get it to the dealer for repairs. the dealer has had it all day and states it is a known problem and it can take up to 30 days to repair due to limited parts availability. dealer also states they cannot release the vehicle back to me as it is a safety problem. *tr
Passenger rear door latch broke. all i did was unlock the door and now it will not close. have to have a cord across the back seat to hold it shut! there needs to be a recall on this immediately! i should not have to spend $250 on this defect that ford screwed up! *tr
As i was pulling out of the driveway and started driving down the street my front passenger door flew open only to find the door latch to be broken. when the door wont close the lights stay on resulting in a dying battery. extremely inconvenient and unsafe. this happened again one month later and each time the part was on a national backorder. *tr
Rear passenger door of my 2012 ford fiesta will no longer close. the latch appears to be broken, as i can manually manipulate the latch but it does not latch when the door is closed. luckily the latch broke after i had parked the vehicle, since children were riding in the back seat directly before the latch broke. i now have to keep the door closed via bungee cord. the door simply swings open while driving if the door is not held closed by the bungee cord. i no longer feel safe allowing anyone, especially children, to ride in the back seat of the vehicle since the door is not at all stable. *tr
The car was park on the street. i was inside waiting for my mother to return with my sister. my mom open the rear passanger door, got my sister buckled in then try to close the door. the latch was ineffective it would not latch on so it remains open. *tr
I got into my parked car and the "back passenger door open" warning light went on. i went to close it and it would not close--the catch mechanism would not catch. i took the car to the dealership and they replaced the door. approximately one month later i had the exact same problem with the front passenger door. *tr
I was driving the car down a 4 lane road, going approximately 50 mph when the dome lights turned on, and a message read "rear passenger door open". hearing wind, i look back, and sure enough the back passenger door was completely wide open, bouncing back and forth off of the car. i pulled over as soon as i could, got o *trut, tried to close the door, but it would just bounce back open. i had to use a power cord for my iphone charger to try and 'rig' the door to stay closed. it helped, but the door would still manage to swing open as i drove it back home. i took it to the dealership the next day. at the dealership 'capital ford of wilmington', where i bought the car, they asked if i could just drop it off and have someone pick me up; saying that i needed to pay for the rental for them to fix it. i said i can't afford to do that, so they said they would "try to rig it so it will stay shut until i can drop it off and afford the rental car". i waited an hour, they finally said they couldn't rig it to stay closed, so they said they would fix it. next the man said this to me, "i don't want you to think i can do this all the time, so don't get used to it, but i'm going to give you the rental free of charge, just pay for the gas you use." *tr
I opened my passenger side rear door and when i closed it the door would not latch. i got this fixed at the ford dealership and several months later (april 2015) the same thing happened to the driver's side rear door. i now have a bungee holding my door closed because no matter if it is locked or unlocked the door will not latch. i had no previous incidents with either door. *tr
Rear door latch stopped working. door will not stay shut at all. i have to tie its' handle across the back seat to the opposite door handle. *tr
While driving in a parking lot, passenger side door came open. stopped car and door would no longer latch at all. took to dealership service center; replacement part on backorder; technician mentioned that being huge problem with the fiestas and focuses from that model year. *tr
When driving after making a turn rear driver side door opened up. had to pull over to check the door, when trying to close the door would bounce back and would not lock. this happened after i had just dropped off my niece at daycare. so glad it did not happen while she was in the car since she was in her car seat on that side. i have to have the door tied with a rope. took the car to dealership and the one of the service advisors said that since the car was not under warranty anymore i would have to pay $400 in order for the part to be ordered plus labor (my car was not even taken to mechanics to be checked). *tr
tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fiesta. the contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the rear passenger side door suddenly open. the contact stopped the vehicle to close the door and discovered that the door would not stay in the closed position. the contact mentioned that the failure was a very serious safety issue since at the time of the failure the contact's 6 year old grandson was occupying the rear seat. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 40,000.
I was taking my son out on the town because he was visiting from misawa afb in japan and we made a stop at the convenience store around the corner, his wife got out of the car, shut the door and it would not close. i had to have her hold the door shut as we drove the car back home. i called the next day to get it into the dealer and they made me an appointment for the following monday. the dealership said that the door is not covered under warranty. i paid $130 for them to tell me that the latch and cable need to be replaced. the cable is on back order and would take 4-5 days and cost over $500 to get it fixed. this is a real safety concern and i have never had a vehicle with this problem before. what if this door popped open while driving down the road. i will not pay $500 to have this problem fixed by the dealer and i will end up tearing it apart myself. this is really inexcusable considering that this is still fairly new vehicle. *tr
Door won't close, one day just didn't close, try to shut it and bounced back. *tr
I was loading items into my backseat after vacation in the back right door and went to shut the door when it bounced back. it was not locking at all. i have had this vehicle since january and have maybe opened the back doors 20 times a piece as i drive alone 90% of the time and with my significant other who sits in the front seat the other 10% of the time. we tried to fiddle with the latching mechanism, but no combination of adjusting the latch would yield closure. we eventually settled on taking a taxi to the hardware store and getting 2 bungee cords to hold the door shut on our drive back home. the current issue is that my dome lights will not turn off and i fear for my battery in the time it will take me to get to the dealership. my car is still under manufacturer's warranty at 29,500 miles so i'm hopeful that they will fix this issue for me promptly. otherwise, it was an unnecessary cost and safety hazard for a car i purchased 8 months ago. *tr
While parked, i opened the rear passenger door. when i tried to close the door, it would not latch. the black plastic piece inside the door does not engage when the door is closed. the door swings freely and i had to loop a seatbelt through the door handle to secure it enough to drive the car home. we took the car to the dealership for service and applied for payment assistance. ford denied payment assistance and wants to charge us $359 for repair. this issue is obviously a manufacturer defect - the plastic part does not hold up to the heat in warmer states. i live in arizona, but the mechanic mentioned that this has happened several times in arizona as well as florida. ford needs to resolve this before people get hurt or worse! *tr
Shut the door and the latch broke (front right). *tr
My right rear door that is hardly ever used will not close due to the latch. i was 200 miles from home and it was labor day weekend so couldn't get to dealership. had to buy a bungee cord to secure the door from the inside and it still opened slightly going around curves and backseat items almost fell out. my vehicle is a little over 2 years old but due to my job of driving frequently (driving children) i am well past the 36k warranty and will have to pay to fix this. since i can't afford at the moment the battery needs to be disconnected since the lights stay on and the doors remain unlocked. this clearly needs to be addressed after so many complaints. *tr
My left rear door of my 2012 ford fiesta is no longer latching. i bought the car new in september of 2012. at the end of the day on august 29th 2014, i tried closing the door after letting my dogs in and it just bounced right back open. since the door won't close, the dome lights stay on so i have to disconnect my battery. i spent over 30 minutes trying to get the door to latch. i was forced to leave my car, with a completely open door, at my workplace and it will have to remain that way until tuesday due to labor day weekend. it's completely ridiculous that a two year old car with less than 30,000 miles is having door latching problems and it's apparently rampant with 81 other complaints. how many complaints do there need to be before a recall is ordered? i won't be buying another ford. *tr
I had just closed the right rear door after loading material into the back seat. (this door has maybe been opened 10 times in the life of the car [2.5 years] as i never have rear seat passengers.) after leaving a parking lot yesterday and while traveling about 50mph, i noticed the open door warning light on the dash after which i noticed the right rear door was ajar. i stopped the car, opened the door and attempted to shut it again. it bounced back open. i tried fiddling with the latch and closing several times without success. luckily i had a rope in the trunk so i tied the two rear doors together by the interior handles. i drove to my local ford dealer and barely had begun to explain my problem when the attendant said she was aware of similar problems. without looking at the door she told me the parts were on "backorder" leading me to believe the problem is widespread. thankfully i don't have rear passengers, so i can deal with tied doors, but since i can't lock the car and the dome lights stay on, it is a big problem. she asked me to return in the am and leave the car for them to look at. they would try to make a temp fix while we waited for parts that might take a few weeks so i wouldn't have to disconnect the battery or pull fuses. this morning i left the car at the dealer where it sits as i write this. i found this nhtsa website chronicling similar problems as well as other references to the problem on other web sites. of 81 total complaints made on this model on this nhtsa web page, 20 are for this exact problem. those 20 complaints have all been within the most recent 50 complaints and all made in the past 10 weeks. something is wearing out and it won't be long before a child, pet, suitcase or bag of groceries falls out resulting in death. don't wait for that to happen. get this recalled now nationwide! *tr
Right rear door will no longer latch. the vehicle is used to commute myself to work so the door is hardly ever used. i pulled a bag from the rear seat and went to shut the door and it popped back open. manual manipulation of the latch indicates that the latch fails to shut under any circumstances. *tr
On 8/27/14 i was leaving work with my riding partner. we placed some work items in the back seat and started down the road. after we went about a mile the car made a ding sound and screen showed the rear passenger door was open. i pulled off the road and tried to close the door but it would not latch. it's 74 miles from work to my home so the passenger had to ride in the back seat and hold the door close by hand for 73 miles on the highway. when i got home i had to put a ratchet strap between the two rear doors to keep the door closed while driving. my child was not in the car at the time but what if he had been? *tr on 8/30/14 i went to the local ford dealer and paid $215.55 for them to order a new door latch. it's now 9/17/14 and i still do not have my door fixed. the local dealer told me i was on national back order for that part.
The passenger rear door won't latch. i almost drove off with an open door, and my kids were on the back seats. the latching mechanism is not working. i tried to close it many times, but it won't work. i researched online regarding this issue, and i saw several complaints listed --all of them for the same door--. i guess someone's child has to get hurt in order to ford do something about it. *tr
The left hand rear door latch failed, resulting in a door that would not stay closed. it required use of seat belts and a shirt to hold the door in the closed position so it could be driven home. i tried a local dealer to see if they would repair it for free and they said no, so i repaired it myself. i also dismantled the failed latch and found the cause of the failure. in my opinion, these latches need to be redesigned and then a recall effort mounted. i can provide documentation of the failure if you need it. *tr
After putting my bags in the backseat after work, i went to shut the rear passenger door and it bounced right back open. this door is used very infrequently and my car has never been in a wreck, so this was a very strange thing to happen all of the sudden! i ended up holding my backdoor closed by using a ratchet strap we had at the office and drove back 30 miles home until i could take my vehicle to the dealership the next morning. apparently there are no tsbs or recalls on this issue, but this seems like a major safety issue to me as the car is unsafe to drive. *tr
We bought the car not even 2 months ago and went to put my kid in his car seat and the rear passenger door wouldn't shut. we had to move him to the driver side and hold the other door locked with the seatbelt in order to get back 30 minutes away from where we live. we have 2 young kids both in carseats and knowing that the door could just open at anytime while kids are riding in the back seat worries me for my kids and others kids who have this car! with so many people complaining the same thing you would think it would have been recalled by now for that reason. what does it take before they finally decide to recall it? something end up happening to someone's son or daughter all because they don't do something about it when they are aware of the situation? the part was even on back order for the same year and car because it happened so often to people with a 2012 ford fiesta. *tr
Leaving to come home from vacation when we went to put our dog in the passenger side rear door. upon closing the door it just bounces right back. the door won't latch or lock. had to drive all the way home with the seatbelt pulled through the door handle and the interior lights on the whole trip. after reading online, this issue should be recalled. *tr
Door latch problem with my 4-door 2012 ford fiesta (hatchback). two separate incidents within a month-and-a-half time-span. the first time, the two back doors would not close/latch. had to have the car towed to the dealership and it took two weeks for the replacements door latches to come in. the second time, the front right passenger door would not close/latch. had to tie the door shut and drive it very slowly to the dealership (again), as any left turns caused the door to swing wide open in traffic -- more so when going faster (on the highway, etc.). we waited several weeks to have the part replaced (again). *tr
I have a 2012 ford fiesta. the back right door lock has failed and now the rear back door won't remain closed. luckily this happened while the car wasn't moving. could have been a huge issue had i actually been in motion. *tr
Right rear passenger door will not stay closed/latch. i opened the right, rear passenger door to put my child in his carseat this morning. upon closing of the door i found that it would not latch. we verified the latch was in the correct position so that the door should close normally. however the door would not stay shut or "click" to latch. i had to ducttape the door closed to take him to daycare. i assume this must be a manufacturing defect. i dropped the car off at the dealership for warranty service this afternoon. i should not have to worry about the doors that protect my children might open at any time for no good reason. i am certain the door has never been abused or closed with excessive force, ever. there is something really wrong here. *tr
Closed rear passenger door and the door bounced back and would not latch. had to secure door with rope. took car to mechanic for repair. mechanic ordered part and repaired door. one week later i opened and closed the front passenger door and it bounced back and would not latch. i had to secure door with a bungee cord. took car to ford dealership. said the part was on back order and could not give me any kind of time frame on when the part would arrive but he made it sound like it would be a long time. since the door will not latch the interior light stays on. my battery went dead while out. i was stranded with a door i could not secure. i was able to call aaa to boost and drive home. now it is dead again. i have no car and no idea when and if it can be repaired. cost to repair $450 per door! i am lucky it happened while parked. a passenger or dog could very easily fall out of the car if the door fails while driving. very dangerous situation! *tr
Right rear side passenger door was open. door was then shut and would not stay closed. passenger had to hold shut on way to dealership. part was then replaced but paid for out of pocket. (r/r door latch. estimation of repairs was $195.01). *tr
I was 20 miles away from home out shopping with my two sons. we got into the car and the door open light was on. i had one son check to make sure his door was closed but when he tried to re-shut it, the door would not close properly and lock. i started to worry as i got out of the car and double checked it myself. the door would not shut and stay closed and we were 20 miles away from home. there was no way i could have my 12 year old son hold the door shut while driving on the freeway. luckily, after making a few calls - the suggestion was made to buy a couple of bungee cords to tie around the door and seat to hold the door in place. i had to drive very slowly in fear that the door was going to swing open while on the freeway. thankfully we made it safe. unfortunately we took it to the dealer and that issue is not covered under warranty. *tr
