Problems with 2017 Ford F-350 SUSPENSION

On average, the 2017 Ford F-350 starts to “feel” problems with the SUSPENSION and its various aspects after 26 359 miles.

Recently reported SUSPENSION problems on 2017 Ford F-350

I own a 2017 f-350 super duty with 28,000 miles. experiencing "death wobble" multiple times per week, typically at speeds between 50-70 mph and hitting even the slightest bump or uneven-ness in the road. the shaking in the front end is so violent that the vehicle is not controllable and is extremely dangerous to the point that my wife refuses to drive it. the only way to regain control is by slowing down to approx 30-40 mph until the shaking subsides. yesterday, while driving on the highway, the wobble started and pulled me into the next lane, nearly causing an accident. slowing down in order to regain control caused another near miss as cars were having to swerve to avoid me as i tried to regain control from the wobble. this was an expensive vehicle and it is practically new with very low miles - this should not be happening and in doing research its appears this is a very prevalent issue with these trucks and ford is aware of the defect and is not doing much to address it. i need to be able to drive this vehicle and i need it to be safe and this defect does not allow that. there have been no modifications to this vehicle - it is 100% factory stock.

At highway speed (55 to 65mph) three times now (9-13-19 was first), after crossing a rough bridge expansion joint, the front of the truck began shaking violently in a self sustaining very rapid harmonic vibration that made steering extremely difficult. the longest lasted approx. 0.75 of a mile as the truck was in left lane and needed to cross 5 lanes of urban traffic to get to right side break down lane. each time the violent shaking ended when braking to 37 to 35 mph. seems to occur if the driver side wheel hits the bump first. the second and third events were similar to the first. truck now has 10,800 miles and is 27 months old.

Vehicle developed knocking in front end at 5,000 miles. at around 10,000 miles began uncontrollable shaking in the steering when hitting a bump at 75 mph on highway. this would stop by slowing down to 40 mph. this continued until the front stabilizer was replaced by ford at around 15,000. vehicle now has 20,000 miles on it and has again started shaking uncontrollably as stated before. fords fix is to replace it again with the same part that has already failed twice. i have heard of the same issues from other people is similar makes and models.

When hitting a bump between 50 to 60mph, the truck front end started bouncing wildly and became difficult to control on any type of road. this happened several times miles on the vehicle was between 27,000 and 30,000. ford dealer described this as the "death wobble", literally. was fixed by replacing steering damper. this event almost caused me to lose control of the vehicle at highway speeds. very dangerous.

Truck goes into death wobble. was returned for repair under warranty at 35,091. the wobble came back and is a danger. we have 3 f350, 17 and 18 models and they are all having death wobble problems. these problems pose a danger and should be recalled, it is a design flaw. we have contacted ford (ref# cas24123991) to make the aware of the issues and to get them to repair.

When you drive the truck over 60 miles an hour and hit a pothole or expansion joint in a bridge the truck violently shakes you cannot even hold onto the steering wheel or control it at all. it seems like the front end of the truck is actually hopping off of the ground. the only way to get it to stop is you have to slow the vehicle down to under 40 miles an hour, this is also very dangerous because everyone else on the highway is going 70. this is obviously an engineering defect because i see online thousands of other people with the same problem. this is very dangerous because it catches you off guard and you're going 70 miles an hour on the highway with other vehicles and you cannot control yours. people are going to get killed

I started to hear a clunking in the front end of my 2017 f350 when going over bumps (low speed and high speed). i took it in to the dealer and the said i had excessive play in my tie rod ends, so they replaced them along with a lower control arm. about a week later, i started hearing the noise again and when i would go over bumps in the road, even at low speed, the truck would want to wander. i took it in a second time and they found the anti sway bar had excessive play, so they replaced that. i asked why a new 1 ton truck would already need front suspension components replaced and they said they didn't know. the truck did drive better for awhile, but shortly after i started hearing the noise again. i had to get the oil change, so i asked them to check on it while it was in there. they said they did the oil change but couldn't check the noise complaint because they didn't have time. they did however do another 42 point inspection and said everything was ok. i brought it in about a week later because the noise was still there. they told me that they couldn't replicate the problem, but the tech said it could be coming from the rear leaf pack because, "sometimes the trucks come from the factory with the rear leaf springs lubricated and they aren't supposed to be", so he sprayed degreaser on them and they couldn't hear any noise anymore. i asked why the factory would do that, and again, they had no answer. i drove it with the service manager (around the corner) and of course it didn't make the noise. i took it home hoping the problem was solved, but i soon realized that the truck still makes the clunking noise when going over bumps, even backing in my driveway and it still wanders, even pulling into one direction when i go over bumps/transitions on the road/highway at low and higher speeds. i have made a complaint to ford and will be contacting a lemon law attorney.

I was pulling a 12,000 lbs 5th wheel trailer on a highway mountain pass when i went over an expansion joint at about 55 mph and the vehicle started a death wobble. the vehicle violently started shaking and i struggled to maintain control of the truck and trailer barely being able to stop the vehicle on the shoulder before going over a cliff with my family in the vehicle. there were vehicles behind me that had to slam on their brakes to keep from hitting us.

I've experienced 5 "death wobble" incidents on my f350 with less than 10k mileage. this problem always happens at highway speeds crossing over uneven bridge expansion strips on a diagonal. the last time this happened, i was in the number two lane driving at freeway speed in busy traffic. i had to slow down below 30 miles an hour to regain control of the truck. this is a very dangerous issue that seems to be a common problem with ford superduty 4x4 trucks. it's the second time i've taken it to the dealership for repair. first time, ford replaced the steering dampener. now they are changing tie-rod ends. ntsb really needs to look at this dangerous situation and force ford to stop nickel diming repairs and fix this problem once and for all.

When driving over 50mph and hit a bump or road transition on a bridge the truck shakes violently and you have to slow down to about 30mph to get it to stop

Multiple instances ~15 of 'death wobble' where the truck and steering wheel shake violently. normally at speeds above 55 mph when hitting a bump or rough road. started occurring only when turning and hitting a bump, but now happening when driving straight. requires slowing quickly to below 30 mph to stop shaking, making it very dangerous for myself and other drivers on the highway. stock f350 drw with 32k miles

I had several incidents with the infamous "death wobble" when the front suspension vibrates excessively resulting in loss of steering control and overall vehicle control. after the first three incidents i researched and found the death wobble thread on the internet. i took vehicle to dealer and they replaced a drag link and ball joint. the vehicle drove mostly normal for the next several months with only occasional front steering vibration after driving over a bump in the road. then on june 10, 2019 i ran over an expansion joint in a bridge on a corner going 45-50 mph and the steering wheel and entire truck vibrated to the point of losing control and going off road nearly into the ditch before i got the vehicle under control at approximately 15 mph. the vibration and oscillation was extremely severe with everyone in vehicle being tossed about violently. i immediately made an appointment to have vehicle inspected and dealership stated they knew of problem and referenced tsb 18-2268. they shimmed the suspension, adjusted the castor, and replaced the steering dampener to the tune of $624. i talked to three different ford customer service representatives and got nothing but a run-around. after truck was repaired, i was notified that ford would pay $335 for repairs since vehicle was out of warranty. ford customer service is horrible and i am very disappointed since this is a known problem and was not repaired correctly the first time. we could have been seriously injured or killed due to the violent nature of the vibration and loss of control. kendall ford in kenai was very accommodating and helpful in getting my problem solved but ford needs to take care of their customers and get these vehicles repaired before someone dies. there are many reports of this happening now with this vehicle. vehicle has 45,332 miles.

Truck has death wobble. after hitting a bump on the freeway steering wheel and front end starts to shake violently. requires slowing down to under 40 mph to stop shaking. very dangerous situation. this has happened numerous times. ford has inspected the front end and said everything looks fine. another ford dealer replace the steering stabilizer shock at my cost. problem still exists.

As i was driving on the interstate at approximately 80 mph, i crossed and expansion joint and the truck started to shake violently as if i had two flat tires. the steering wheel shook so hard that i had to grasp it with both hands and a very tight grip simply to keep the truck in my lane. i was able to pull off onto the shoulder and made a visual inspection of all four tires. nothing seemed wrong. i pulled back onto the interstate and continued at 60 mph until the next exit. once i got home i was able to search for similar problems and found that the problem had a name, the "death wobble" given to it by other owners that had experienced the same. i called my dealer to make an appointment and found that there was an active service bulletin on the problem.

This incident happened in may 2019. when we're on a highway next to a river traveling about 60 miles an hour and all of the sudden the truck start to vibrating violently (also known as death wobble).there was nothing i could do to control it. mean while my 4 year old son was so terrified he could stop asking my wife if we were going to die. we were so helpless and we all feared for our life lives. that's truly the worst moment of my life. we had the vehicle tow to the dealership where we purchased the vehicle little over a year ago and explained to them what happen and told them no is no way we were getting back in that truck and asked them to buy back. ford denied our request and assure the problem was fixed after waiting about half month for them to fix it and after multiple attempts. and in order for them to consider it, we most experiences the tragedy repeatedly. without any other option, i drove the vehicle for over a month on my own to make sure it was safe before i allow my family back in the truck and for about 3 months everything seem fine. until yesterday when we were on our way to the airport and the death wobble came back. again, we took the vehicle to the dealer and have them service. after what happened, i can see where the death wobble term came from. it was truly a life and death situation and ford doesn't seem to care about that. i think we've giving them plenty of attempts to address the issue and i feel it time to reach out for further assistance.we currently live in alaska. however we have just sold everything and ready to move out of state in about four days. but at this point we do not have a vehicle and our house will be sold soon. i don't understand why ford is not alert with this deadly situation. we are very desperate and any help will be much apprecaited.

At 45-65 mph if the truck hits the slightest bump in the road the tires and steering wheel start shaking uncontrollably. you lose all control of the vehicle unless you can stop the vehicle before causing a crash. the first time this happened the truck drifted through 4 lanes before coming to a stop.

The steering on my 2017 f-350 occasionally becomes uncontrollable and shakes violently from side to side when hitting bumps at highway speeds. the dealer referred to this as " death wobble" ford has already attempted to fix it once by replacing the steering damper but the problem persists. the truck is completely stock with all original components and tires. ford is unwilling to make any more repairs to the vehicle at their expense. i have done quite a bit of research on line and this seems to be a very common problem with the 2017 and newer f 250 / 350 series trucks. the last time it happened to me was on tuesday, april 16, 2019 and i immediately took the vehicle to the nearest ford dealer- northside ford in san antonio, tx.

I was driving my ford f-350 pickup on the highway and hit a pothole. the whole front of the truck started wobbling and shaking to the point that i could barely control it. at first i thought i might have blown a tire or tow but that wasn't the case. i had to reduce speed since i wasn't in a position to pull over safely. i called ford and all they said was to make sure the tires were at the right tire pressure. luck for me i was able to make it home in one piece.

While driving on the highway about 50mph i passed over a small bump (roadway to overpass) in the road. the front end of my truck began to shake violently. i had to pull over to the side of the road and stop to get it to stop shaking. this has happened a few times in the past but the shaking has not been as violent and has stopped when letting off the throttle (not this time). this seems to be getting worse. my truck has 11,450 miles.

Hauling horse trailer with 4 horses, hit a bump in road and vehicle began shaking and almost lost control on a 5 lane highway thru slc ut. also learned after the fact ford death wobble.

While traveling at approximately 65mph truck developed a high speed wobble. wife was driving at the time and was barely able to get the truck stopped without losing control. the truck that has 26000 miles on it had no payload shook so hard that my wife was unable to hold on to the steering wheel and had to apply the brakes to get it stopped while trying to stay in her lane and on the road.

While driving at normal highway speeds (65) an 'extreme' wobble developed in front steering and suspension. steering wheel deflection was around 30 degrees side to side from top center. a fifth wheel travel trailer was being towed and the wobble resulted in departure from travel lane; however, no accident occurred. speed was reduced to 20 mph before wobble ceased and trailer brakes we the only effective thing to straighten truck. application of truck brakes seemed to worsen the wobble. volumes of information exist on this issue labeled as 'death wobble.' https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4jv7l8bbo1q https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8euq6f8rgt4 vehicle is at purchasing dealer for repair. i am happy to speak with nhtsa if deemed appropriate.

At 60mph on the highway, after hitting a minor bump in the road, the truck shook and vibrated violently and the steering wheel was very difficult to hold onto to. the shaking stopped around 25mph as i was pulling on to the shoulder. the truck has 21,000 miles on it and all tires, wheels, parts, suspension do not appear damaged. research into the issue revealed what is being called, "death wobble." those descriptions fit my experience perfectly. there seems to be no clear solution.

Death wobble! my truck has 31k. while on the expressway doing 50+ mph if i hit and bump or take a turn fast, the entire front end shakes violently. extremely scaring and dangerous, caused me to stop in the middle of the expressway before it went back to driving normal.

While driving 45 - 60 mph on a county road, after hitting a small bump in the road, the steering wheel and front end began to oscillate violently. the truck was difficult to control and the shaking only stopped after reducing speed under 30 mph. on a road with a speed limit of 55 mph doing rush hour traffic.

Ford death wobble - at random times while driving at highway speeds (45-75mph) severe steering and front suspension shakes causing loss of control of vehicle. to gain control driver must brake heavily and reduce speed.

While driving 60 mph on a county road, after hitting a small bump in the road, the steering wheel and front end began to oscillate violently. the truck was difficult to control and the shaking only stopped after reducing speed under 30 mph.

Front end shaking uncontrollably, after hitting a bump at freeway speeds.

Problem # 1 vehicle shakes violently while in motion when it hits a small bump or pothole. it has happened few time in the last couple weeks, on 2/15/2019 while driving at about 60 mhm the vehicle hit a small bump and the vehicle from suspension started to shake so violently that i almost lost control of it. i had to apply brakes and reduce speed by 50% to stop the shaking. problem 2. front air monitoring system failure. it all the sudden started to give wrong readings in both front tires.

While driving down i-5 between tacoma, wa and olympia, wa at 60 mph, i encountered a steering wheel oscillation that affected by driving. i slowed down between 30-35 mph before the shaking ceased. i drove safely home and crawled underneath and noticed i could move the drag link rod back and forth. the local ford dealership plans to replace parts but they are on back order. ford does have a tsb out on this matter.

It has happened on more than one occasion. will hit a bump in the road and the vehicle will start violently shaking. it will shake unitl you can get slowed down to about 20 to 25 mph. it is very scary. when it happens, it continues to happen to all small bumps in the road. the weird thing is the next day you can drive it on the same road and it will not shake. it is extremely difficult to maintain control when it happens. so far it hasn't happened when pulling a trailer but scared to find out what might happen if we are.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-350. while driving 65 mph over a bump in the road, the vehicle violently vibrated. the contact stated that the failure worsened when the speed was lowered. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 27,254. *tt consumer stated the steering dampener shock was replaced.*jb

Violent shaking of steering wheel and front end suspension at speed over 55 mph when hitting a bump on the road.

While driving approximately 75mph on the highway, i drove across a joint in the pavement (small bump) and the steering wheel started shaking back and forth violently, and the entire truck started shaking, vibrating and jumping around the lane. i had felt a few steering wheel shimmies prior to the major vibration/shake, but they dissipated quickly. when the steering wheel shook violently, i had to pull over onto the shoulder and reduce the speed to about 40 mph before the shaking stopped. i then proceeded driving as i had before, noticing smaller steering wheel shimmying when going over bumps.

While driving 65 mph in heavy traffic curving to the right on the tollway i hit a pothole which sent the front end of the vehicle into violent shaking known as death wobble. the shaking was so violent it almost ripped the steering wheel out of my hands.the only way to regain control of the vehicle was to slow down to approximately 15 to 20 mph.

Driving over expansion joints on interstate and truck steering had a severe wobble, unable to control and almost hit the concrete median wall. slowed down enough to stop it.

When hitting a bump on the highway at 70 mph, the steering wheel developed a violent shimmy. i had to slow down and pull over to get the truck back under control. it happens a speeds over 45 mph for no apparent reason. it happens when you hit the right bump the wrong way. *tr

Coming a interstate bridge at 60 mph the steering wheel started shaking badly. i had to slow down to stop the shaking.

Death wobble. at speed, truck shakes violently, having to slow down and sometimes stop before regaining control

Death wobble symptoms at highway speeds, violent shaking in steering and suspension. had to replace track bar, steering stabilizer, align front end to reduce/eliminate potential danger. poor response by ford on this one. happened numerous times, difficult to duplicate, possible serious injury if an i experienced driver of this vehicle is behind the wheel.

I own a 2017 ford f350 that has experienced death wobble. which is a violent shaking and vibrating in the front end. when it happens, the front end shakes so badly, you cannot even control the vehicle. my truck only has 20,000 miles on it, and this shouldn't be happening. it happens when driving on a straight road, when turning, when hitting a bump, going fast or going slow. i know many other ford owners have reported their death wobble, so i am joining them. something needs to be done.

2017 ford f-350 drw 4x4. while driving on us hwy 67 in arkansas (a very rough road) at 60 mph, towing a 15k lb 5th wheel rv, encountered a bump in the road and subsequently experienced a sustained steering wheel oscillation that lasted approximately 15-20 seconds until speed was reduced to approximately 30 mph and stable operation resumed. this oscillation has been experienced in the past a few times, but only for 1-2 seconds and always after experiencing a bump in the road. i presume this problem is the same as would be covered by ford technical service bulletin 18-2268 31 aug 2018

Driving at 65-70 mph on a concrete paved highway. hit a rough patch of pavement or expansion joint, and the front end began shaking violently, as if one or both of the front tires had flatted. i could see the hood shaking. the steering wheel also oscillated significantly. i let off the accelerator and lightly braked to about 45mph before the shaking and oscillation stopped. this occurred on december 7, 2018.

Steering wheel shakes out of my hand . truck goes left when hitting bump on streets at a speed of 40 mph or higher

2017 f350 superduty drw, 27000 miles. while on the freeway at 65 mph, the steering went into an uncontrollable vibration (death wobble). the only solution was to reduce speed to approximately 10 mph. contacted the dealer and ford's customer service, and was informed that it must be witnessed by an official service technician before any assistance could be rendered.

On nov. 7 and nov. 24, 2018 while driving my 2017 f350 super duty diesel truck i crossed freeway bridge transition strips at 70mph, at which time the front end of the truck went into what is commonly referred to by owners as the "death wobble". the front end of the truck began to violently shake up, down and sideways. these violent vibrations were obviously felt in the steering wheel, which also began to violently shake, nearly taking the wheel out of my hands when the event first started. the vibration did not stop until i was off on the berm and reduced speed to approximately 30 mph. these occurrences obviously caused not only a safety hazard for me, but for every vehicle behind or beside me at the time. the only way to stop the problem is to immediately reduce speed, which is extremely dangerous at highway speeds of 70 mph, even more so if towing a trailer or camper. this issue can very easily cause vehicles with this issue to lose control resulting in an accident. this problem is widely known, going back years, and owners have said tsb 18-2268 does not correct the problem. ford needs to correct this problem, and owner's online don't understand why the nhtsa allows this problem to persist.

After hitting an expansion joint on the highway at approximately 75mph, entire vehicle front end started wobbling/oscillating violently. steering wheel was almost impossible to hold onto and was shaking back and forth rapidly. condition was remediated by a panic brake on a busy highway down to approximately 30mph where steering resumed normal operation. issue also occurred earlier the same week when hitting a pothole at approximately 50 mph on an empty side road with same effects and remediation - panic brake and slow to 30mph to stop the condition.

Highway speed, hit slight bump in road and violent shake/shimmy started. only way to stop the shake was to slow down to 15-20 mph while pulling over. unit had been perfect and trouble free until approximately 35000 miles. took to ford dealer where they reffered to a tsb 18 2268 but wanted me to pay $1200 to correct as buy the time they made appointment unit had in excess of 36000 miles and warranty has expired. this is a known by ford defect and a dangerous safety issue!!!!

I own a 2017 ford f-350. this truck is fully stock, no mods of any kind. no abuse. maintenance is always on time and tires are always rotated and balanced every 5000 miles. in may 2018, i was driving along a straight moderately bumpy road at about 40 miles per hour and my truck went into the death rattle. the front end shook so hard i almost lost control. i had to come to a complete stop to get the shaking to stop. the mileage was approximately 24,000 miles. it hasn't happened again until yesterday, 10/10/18. i was traveling on a newly paved road at 30 mph. i hit a slight bump and the truck went into the death rattle again. i had to slow down to about 5 mph to regain control of the vehicle. i had about 3 miles til i got home. i crawled at about 15 mph with no problems. i stopped at the stop sign about 60 feet from my home, started to take off at an extreme crawl and it started shaking again. the mileage was approximately 36,036. i have children and this is dangerous! my kids are always with me and i can't risk their lives because ford hasn't come up with a solution to this problem. someone needs to make ford fix this. it is a design flaw, as i have come to find out. this is going to kill someone.

I've experienced a problem twice with my 2017 f350 super duty truck called the "death wobble." at highway speeds hitting an uneven road surface, my truck front wheels begin to shake uncontrollably. i must immediately slow to a stop to end the wobble. my truck has less than 6k miles, so it isn't because of any worn parts. i found out via the internet it is a common problem with ford super duty trucks.
