Ford Maintenance Schedule: Normal vs Severe Duty Modes

Understanding these differences is crucial for maintaining the performance and longevity of your Ford vehicle. Here's a breakdown of what each schedule entails, based on the Ford owner's guide.
Normal Schedule
The Normal Schedule is suitable for most everyday driving conditions. Here are some key maintenance tasks under this schedule:

Every 5,000 miles (8,000 kilometers): Change engine oil and replace the oil filter. Rotate tires and adjust air pressure. Check and lubricate the clutch release lever (for 7.5L and 7.3L DIT Diesel). Check the clutch reservoir fluid level. Inspect and lubricate the automatic transmission shift linkage.

Every 100,000 miles (160,000 kilometers): Replace rear axle lube quantities, unless the axle has been submerged in water or if a leak is suspected or repair is required.

Severe Duty Schedule
The Severe Duty Schedule is recommended if your driving habits frequently include one or more of the following conditions:
- Towing a trailer or carrying a heavy load.
- Operating in severe dust conditions.
- Extensive idling, such as police, taxi, or door-to-door delivery service.
- Snowplowing.
- Off-Road operation.
- Short trips of less than 10 miles (16 km) when outside temperatures remain below 0°F (-18°C).
Here are some key maintenance tasks under this schedule:

Every 69,000 miles (115,000 kilometers): Change engine oil and replace the oil filter. Rotate tires and adjust air pressure.

Every 72,000 miles (120,000 kilometers): Change engine oil and replace the oil filter. Check the clutch reservoir fluid level. Inspect and lubricate the automatic transmission shift linkage. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks, damage, or loose parts and remove any foreign material trapped by the exhaust system shielding.

Every 99,000 miles (165,000 kilometers): Replace rear axle lube quantities, unless the axle has been submerged in water or if a leak is suspected or repair is required.
