Recently reported STEERING problems on 2010 Ford F-250

Death wobble. hitting a bum at highway speeds and the struck loses control. have to pull over onto the shoulder for hit to stop. almost took me into the other lane and hit a car. very dangerous. has happened several times.

We have a 2010 ford f250 superduty diesle with approx 105k miles on it. while driving down the city highway (route 15 south in williamsport, pa) at approximately 64 mph i was on a bridge that the road turned slightly to the left to merge into another highway and when i hit the expansion joint the truck started to violently shake out of control bouncing the truck toward the rail guard. i applied the breaks to slow the truck down. it took all the stregnth i had in my arms to keep the truck on the road. when at approx 35mph the shaking finally subsided. this is not the first time this has happened in our truck. my husband has experienced it a few times. after researching on the internet i found that there is a ford technical service bulletin 18-2268 for this and it is being called the death wobble. we are taking our truck in tomorrow to be serviced at our local ford dealer, but this is very dangerous issue and should be a ford recall. everything i am reading online is pointing to a known issue with the steering linkage damper/adjust assembly and clearance between the axle and the bearings in the hub assembly. below are the part numbers that are listed in the ford technical service bulletin 18-2268: part numberdescriptionquantity hc3z-3e651-d steering linkage damper1 5c3z-3b440-eee 1 adjuster assembly2 5c3z-3b440-ddd 3/4 adjuster assembly2 5c3z-3b440-ccc 1/2 adjuster assembly2 5c3z-3b440-bbb 1/4 adjuster assembly2 f2tz-3a049-a castle nut2 w525288-s437 cotter pin2 i really feel this needs to be addressed with ford and put in as a recall before someone dies. please be proactive to save lives.

Vehicle suddenly and without warning becomes completely unsteerable. sudden very strong shaking vibration in front end. has happened at least 6 times to date. always occurs at speeds above 55 mph seeming to result after a slight bump or seam in the road is passed. for instance after hitting a bridge seam at 65 mph experienced sudden, violent vibration that only resolved after the truck slowed considerably. couldn't effectively steer just held on and luckily didn't hit other cars but that was due to evasive action by other drivers.

Between 50 and 60 miles an hour if you hit a little bump the left front wheel will start hopping and shaking all over the road and you have to come to a complete stop it's noted on the internet as the ford death wobble

While driving the truck at a speed greater than 40 mph, when you hit a bump in the road, the steering wheel and truck begin to shake to the point of non control. i've had the vehicle looked at by 3 mechanics and replaced ball joints, stabilizers, tie rods, etc. nobody can fix it. ford won't admit anything is wrong. http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/ford-f-250-super-duty/tohp1m75vbfbft9il/p15

2010 ford f-250 with a horrible shimmy between 60 and 65 mph. becomes violent shaking after going over small bumbs in road, and unable to steer. to stop this i had to slow below 50 mph. currently 82000 miles have had this issue for several months. no one at ford seems to know what it is. search on the intranet appears to describe it as the "death wobble".

While driving my 2010 ford f250 super duty on the highway i drove over a bump in the road. the truck began to shake violently. it felt like it was going to fall apart while still in motion. i tried to hit the brake but that seemed to exacerbate the problem. i tried to adjust the steering wheel in hopes to align some defunct component. nothing seemed to help except to let off the gas and attempt to control the vehicle and avoid a potential fatal accident. this really was a frightening event, it was all i could do to maintain a safe distance around me so not to collide with other drivers.

While travelling approximately 65 mph through a curved area of highway, vehicle hit a small bump. vehicle began to shake violently and uncontrollably in the front end and steering wheel. once i slowed to approximately 40 mph vehicle stopped shaking. when i pulled over to attempt to identify problem, a woman who had been driving in the lane next to me stopped. she advised me that she saw the incident and said that my front driver's side tire looked like it was about to fall off. i checked suspension and did not notice any obvious problem. i checked lug nuts and all were tight. i was on my way home from a vacation and continued driving approximately 125 more miles without incident. after researching on internet, i am sure that i experienced what is being referred to on the internet as the "death wobble" my truck only has 59,000 miles and is all stock. tires have relatively good tread and were inflated at proper pressure. i think this could have caused and serious accident and i am fortunate that it did not. it felt very dangerous. i want to report this so that ford will address this issue.

After hitting a rough spot on interstate 81 my truck started to shake violently. had to come to a complete stop to stop the shaking. the alignment is now out and the tires need to be replaced after several episodes of death wobble. if ford and the nhtsa does not correct this problem after knowing it they both should have their pants sued off of them and then thrown under the jail !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hope that someone will read this and do their job and not let this go on like chevy with the cobalt key problem !!!!!!!!

While driving on crowded interstate hwy. vehicle makes contact with a expansion joint and truck goes into severe wobble and shaking. had to brake speed in moving traffic to almost a complete stop to cure wobble. very dangerous and scary. luckily drivers were courteous enough to let me get it under control without running into my rear and causing a pile up. have had vehicle in repair shop to inspect with no identifiable solution. now have a fear of returning back home the 500 miles. wife is paranoid and fearful. this is the third occurrence in the last year. manufacturers need to find a fix for this or serious injury could occur. *js

When i hit a bump in a road going over 50 its a terrible shacks and we have replaced a lot of stuff mechanics really unknowing the problem. and problem still unsolved all that money we paid for the truck and i pray that truck don't be the death of me and my kids we need some help on getting our only transportation fixes we have had several bad close to death experience in that truck when on the highway its shacks uncontrollably. tonight i like to cause a serious accident due to uncomfortable shacks.

I just bought this vehicle and was driving the highway at 65 mph. i went over the expansion joint on a bridge and lost control of the vehicle. it jumped into the next lane. thank god no one was in the other lane and no one got hurt. my family and others could have been killed. the dealership said the steering damper was bad. i'm sorry but a bad steering damper when you are traveling 65 mph over a small bump should not make your vehicle jump into the next lane and loose control. this must be fixed by ford. i am reading that other people have had to have all of the front end parts replaced and then the problem returns again. what is the nhtsa doing about this? do not have vin at this time my truck is at the dealers. *tr
