We have classified the 5 complaints from 1999 Ford F-250 about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC into the following categories.
Dt*: the contact stated while approaching a red light at 15 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle did not stop. after depressing and pumping the brake pedal several times, the vehicle did not slow down and ran the red light incident free. the vehicle was towed to a local independent repair shop for inspection. the mechanic determined the right rear brake line corroded and rusted completely through in pinhole size spots. the mechanic replaced the brake line and the vehicle operated normally. updated 5/10/2006 - the consumer still has the corroded line in his possession. *nm
1999 ford 250 brakes were defective causing driver to swerve off the road and strike another vehicle. *ts when the consumer applied the brake pedal it went to the floor and the vehicle would not slow down. the vehicle's front fender, right side panel, rear right fender , and rear taillight were damaged. the trailer of the other vehicle sustained yellow paint transfer and superficial scratches (ohio traffic crash report). *nm
Vehicle experienced extended stopping distance. dealership was informed of the rusted brake line, but did not resolve the problem. *ak
Ford f 250 safety issue, constantly have to make certain the truck doesn't lurch forward on release. *bf the consumer is having problems with the clutch on the six speed manual and the emergency brake. the clutch releases only 1 to 1 1/2 inches off the floor. the consumer was told that the original had a rubber hose part that allowed expansion when the hydraulic clutch fluid was compressed. the vehicle was found that the problem with the clutch fork was bending. the consumer stated that it is difficult to shift gears causing a pause that could result in someone else rear ending him. the vehicle emergency brake was replaced due to recall notice however the consumer still has to leave it in gear on even theslightest grade because the emergency brake does not hold the truck in place. ford motor company agreed to replace the parking brake front cable and the pedal control assembly. *tc the a/c blew hot air. *sc
Total brake failure on our 1999 f-250 super duty ford diesel at 69,600 miles with no warning that there was anything wrong. had this happened on the day before when we were towing our 22' 5000lb boat at turnpike speed there would have been a bad crash.*ak
Approximately every 6,000 miles, my brakes start vibrating when coming to a stop. i believe the disc is warping but to date, nothing concrete has been done to fix the problem. so far, the rotors have been turned twice and the disk replaced twice. the problem is reoccuring and i will be taking the car in again. this is a safety hazard as the car doesn't stop properly and the vibrating steering wheel may cause a loss of control. i see several other complaints of the same nature and most seem to be from alaska. is the cold weather somehow responsible? it takes time, effort, and a lot of emotional grief to argue with the dealership each time i take the car in and tell them that the brakes haven't been right since driving the car of the lot. when is ford going to permanently fix the problem? changing the disk is apparently not a permanent fix. there is a major problem with the system itself. what do we have to do to get satisfaction, start a class action law suit? have an accident caused by faulty breaks with injury or death and publicise a large settlement law suit? all i want is breaks i can trust. as it is, i get into the vehicle and wait for the vibrtation to start! *ak
While braking 40 mph brakes failed. the pedal went to the floor ,causing extended stopping distance. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. *ak
Consumer stated that when applying the brakes the vehicle will shutter. dealer notified. *ak
The brake rotors wore out which caused a heavy vibration and extended stopping distance.*jb
When braking, if one or both rear tires loose contact with the road surface, all braking is lost until the brake pedal is manually pumped. nlm
While applying brakes vehicle will not stop. dealership is aware of problem.*ak consumer stated that when applying brakes the steering wheel vibrates and shakes. the dealer machined the rotors again but the vehicle still vibrates above 35 mph. *yh
While traveling on highway applied brakes and pedal ent all the way to the floor. there was no brake power. dealership was aware of problem.*ak
Consumer states while driving the abs light stays on and could cause an accident. cause unknown dealer notified.*jb
Ball joint is worn out, and at 20mph front and rear brake pads fell onto the ground. cause unknown. dealer notified.*ak
The vehicle began experiencing a brake fade while coming to a hard stop. after the third time this happened, consumer tried to duplicate the event but was unsuccessful. consumer took the vehicle to the local service station to have the brake system inspected. the technician looked over the brakes and saw no signs of damage or abnormal rotor wear. the tech suggested theat the rear rotors and all pads be replaced. in addition, the tech informed consumer that the brake line may not have been adequately bled from a previous recall service prior to purchasing the vehicle. two weeks after the inspection there was a faint scraping sound coming from the right rear of the vehicle. two weeks after hearing the noise, the brakes failed. on the ground were pieces of the brake pad and small fragments of cast steel. brake fluid leaked heavily from the rear passenger side. the vehicle was towed to the local service center. the owner of the center concluded that the cause appeared to be a caliper which froze in the engaged position due to condensation within the caliper leading to inner corrosion and thus mechanical failure. *jg
Consumer states when applying brakes, if vehicle hits a bump abs will stop holding causing driver to run into the back of another vehicle.*jb
While changing front lower ball joints, consumer noticed the front rotors were chipping on the inside. consumer replaced rotors. *ak *jg
The power steering went out and the brakes were not working properly, the vehicle shook very hard when the brakes were applied. in july of 2000 the newspaper in beckley, wv , the register-herald, ran an article that nhtsa reports that the ford f-series super duty truck had problems of losing their steering and brakes. and they could go out without any warnings. that happened to my truck. ford denies knowing anything about it. what do you know about the report? i have asked to talk to ford engineers and have been refused. what can you do about this? what do you know about this?*ak

On februaary 3, 2001 my wife was pulling into the customer pickup area of sears in amarillo, texas as she pulled up to the pickup area and removed her foot from the accelerator to apply the brakes, the accelerator stuck and our pickup truck rammed the backend of another pickup truck in from her. she shifted to revers, the engine still running at a rapid speed, to back away from the vehicle that she had rammed. since the engine ws running at a high speed, our vehicle raced backward. in order to keep from backing tnto someone behindher, she then shifted into forward gear and rammed the pickup in front of her again. all of this time the rear tires were spinning and smoking. after she rammed the pickup the second time, she turned the ignition off to stop the crazy situation. had she known, of course, that the throttle was going to stay engaged at high speed, she would have killed the engine earlier. the combination of anti-lock brakes and an uncontrollable throttle is a recipe for disastor.
All the brake rotors had worn excessively and caused a vibration at only 5000 miles of operation. the manufacturer would not resolve the problem. mr scc *jb
On 7/12/2000 i took the truck to the dealer because of severe vibration when braking from highway speed. at that time the dealer turned the rotors because they were warped. now 6 months later the problem has re-occurred. given the information i have found on the internet regarding simular problems from other owners, it can only be concluded that this is a design defect. however, at this time, both the manufacturer and dealer refuse to adequately address the problem. *ak
Had rotors turned at 32000 miles. in november2 00o, when applying brakes, vehicle vibrated all way to steering wheel. on feb 19, 2001 took vehicle to dealer, who said he could not find a remedy. rotors were warped. *ak

Brake pedal linkage pin was missing causing complete brake failure. dealer service said they do not report brake failures until they see several cases!
Loss of power steering and brakes on 5% down grade. after stopping safly due to trailer brakes and exhuast brake. restarted engine and both returned. towed to bottom of grade. dealer in south lake tahoe checked with no indication of a fault. *ak
At about every 7000 mile increments my brakes begin to exhibit "brake shudder" a vibration that occurs when the brakes are applied. not until i was able to obtain a technical service bulliten and show my ford dealer was i able to get the problem resolved. followng is the technical service bulletin: some 1999-2000 super duty f-series and 2000 excursions may exhibit brake vibration or shudder while braking. engineering has released a new brake pad (p/n f81z-2001-ea), which is equipped with a "v-spring." the v-spring keeps the brake pad off the rotor, which increases brake pad life and decreases brake shudder and noise. when replacing these brake pad use the pro-cut brake lathe to machine the rotors on the vehicle to a lateral run-out of .001" or less. besides the shudder the thing that concerns me the most is the vehicle starts to pull to left or right when i apply the brakes. thank you for you consideration on this issue.l. *ak
We've been previous new ford trk owners - and have never entailed such a problem like this. we feel that there is more than adquate reason that ford should give priority attention to this matter. at general highway speeds, then when beginning to apply brakes, all occupants can easily feel very hard erratic trembling begin on the front end. when having our dealer check into this, he assured us that the front end was okay, but that excessive heat is causing the front brake rotors to distort, and thereby needs lathing/cutting - to correct, and rid the problem of the trembling when applying brakes. this is the third time that we have had to resort to having the rotors lathed. our two prior ford f-250hd trucks that we've owned, never displayed these problems in any form.*ak
6 alignments in 24,000 miles, a broken 14mm suspension bolt, a steering gearbox failure, 3 sets of brakes & rotor/caliper replacement indicates major design/material & quality problems. the vehicle has also left me stranded 5 times for other not listed engine related failures. ford customer relations is useless, could care less & is non-supportive. *ak
When applying brakes at an emergency stop situation it caused vehicle to pull to right. vehicle been in / out of dealer shop on three occasions, and unable to locate cause. *ak consumer states vehicle is still pulling to the right upon braking. *slc

1.while braking, brakes release when truck hits a bump in the road. brakes releasing at the wrong time can be very dangerous. 2. tread seperated from the tire casing (dot number: vnw8 1xl tiresize: 265/175r16)
Upon braking, brake pedal went to the floor, afterwhich a flash fire developed which did extensive damage to wireing, steering column shaft & gear box, 4wd actuation lines etc. this vehicle has had multiple brake service & recalls on the brakes. ford has redesigned the front rotors & hubs but refuses to upgrade early production vehicles. all early production 1999 ford f250sd vehicles should be recalled for complete brake system replacement. the rotors warp, they shake when stopping, they have had multiple rear brake recalls, the antilock brakes release & will not stop on rough roads & now mine went on fire. these trucks are death traps! this incident occurred with a vehicle that had only been driven 3 miles, & had no load in the bed. what would have happened if i was in the mountains of pennsylvania towing my 5000 lb trailer & lost the brakes & had a fire ? when i reported this incident to ford i got the impression that they really didn't care.
Whenever brakes are applied and when running over a bump, it causes a momentary loss of brakes. vehicle been in dealer shop on three occasions, and nothing could be found. please feel free to provide any further details. *ak
Rotors warped within 25000 miles of use, dealership turned rotors, warped again; rotors replaced, warped again after 1500 miles. vehicle use is light w/occasional towing, within vehicle rating. dlrship stated rotor problem known & common in this model.*ak
