Fuel line routing on top of engine allowed an abrasion hole in a pressurized feed line. the routing of the fuel feed line was too close to the feed line on one of the cylinder fuel injection lines. a 3/8 high pressure line developed a hole and fed fuel to top of engine intake manifold valley. this engine has a turbo charged injection and fuel came incontact with hot componets. the dealer fixed the symptom of the leak by brazing the hole close with metal flux. the root problem of too close of fuel line routing was not addressed, therefore leading to a potential under the hood fire. i do not know if this problem is related to only this vehicle or the 7.3l series motor from from ford for the f-250 trucks. secondly, as an aviation repair technician, i do not feel a fix of this type on a high pressure fuel line should be the proper repair action, the line should be replaced. the root cause of the abrasion thru the line should be addressed.

The vehicle was taken into the ford dealer for a safety recall pertaining to the fuel tank mounting system. they could not complete the recall work because the fuel tank was leaking from a hole in the bottom of the tank. the dealer stated that the tank had a puncture that was caused by some object that bounced off the road. the tank is made of plastic and has no shield to protect it from road debris. had this been a gasoline tank instead of diesel fuel it could very well have exploded when the object struck the tank. the vehicle should be recalled and at the very least a shield should be mounted on the frame to protect the tank from being hit by foreign objects.
