My 2016 ford f150 with engine block heater caught fire today 14 february 2020 at 11:12 am. it was moving and caught fire when i parked the truck
Highway driving at 55 mph, ding and message "service advancetrac", "hill start assist not available". throttle unresponsive and truck immediately begins slowing. managed to get off road without an accident. engine running roughly in idle. turn engine off and restart. operates normally. this has occurred 3 times and puts the vehicle and passengers in an extremely unsafe position! internet research indicates that this is a common issue with ford throttle bodies. ford company and dealership refuse to acknowledge that this is a common problem. trouble code shows p2112.
I was operating my 2016 ford f150 on a secondary gravel rd at 30 mph in 2wd. upon going a slight uphill grade, the vehicle lost all acceleration and came to a stop idling roughly at 1000 rpm. the wrench light, hill decent and traction control warning light illuminated. the engine idled but would not accelerate. i shut off the engine and restarted it. this seemed to correct the problem clearing the error codes. however, continuing on the road, the same problem occurred 3 miles later. i was in a remote area in the state and had to travel 60 miles to a urban area. this problem occurred at least 20 more times with greater frequency until arriving at my residence. the vehicle was repaired by the ford dealership in sheridan, wy. the fix was as follows. diag, p2112-throttle actuator a control system, stuck closed, pinpoint to throttle body. replaced throttle body, cleared codes. my vehicle had 38,450 miles when this incident occurred on october 17, 2019, 4:30 pm. after doing some research with other ford f150 owners, this appears to be a prominent problem and in my mind, a dangerous one. most of the incidences appear to happen in the similar mileage range but in other model years, 2017 and 2018 were prevalent also. the ford service manager related he had done allot of these repairs recently. their is no recall for this issue at this time.
Behavior matches the issues described in ford recall 16b32. when i accelerate the vehicle the engine occasionally stops accelerating and goes into a failure mode where i cannot accelerate. a few warnings show up on the dashboard related to hill start assist and being disabled and to service advance track. turning the car off and back on resolves the problem, but this is very dangerous as i'm usually accelerating to get onto a highway where it's not safe to have my vehicle stop. from the description of the recall my vehicle should be included in 16b32 (manufactured between 8/31/15 to 4/27/16 in kansas city), but ford tells me my vin is not listed as affected. this problem has occurred twice now and it is unpredictable in when it will occur. a quick google search of "hill start assist failure" shows a large number of other ford owners with the exact same problem.
Instrument panel lights up with various fault messages related to traction control, downhill descent, etc... within seconds the vehicle begins to stutter, fails to respond to attempts to accelerate by pressing gas peddle, and eventually loses power. happened twice while travelling at highway speeds resulting in a dangerous scenario of pulling to the side of the highway.
Reported my issue already 11229377 but wanted to point out that at a quick glance there are another 30+ nhtsa safety complaints for my same issue. 11022233, 10955596, 11174190, 10870553, 10887486, 11165975, 11150176, 11139022, 11101604, 11048673, 1102997, 11174190 to name a few. ford has also issues several tsb and ssm for this issue. tsb16-0139, tsb17-2124, ssm46829, tsb16b23-s1. at what point does nhtsa put pressure on ford to resolve these issues? will it require a death to be associated to this issue? a fire, accidents? there are also countless online forum posts on this issue. i can find numerous links showing this but i think the sheer number of complaints on here coupled with warranty numbers for this issue should be sufficient to open an investigation. i plan to write a letter to my local news outlets and governor.
Gas tank fuel pump and fuel pump driver went bad at 56,000 miles. would start when cranking then idle rough for a few seconds and shut off
In tank fuel pump went out at 60,000 miles.
It idles rough at stop light sometimes shuts down ,radio screen is blank sometimes w radio or phone call. electrical burning smell enough to make me nauseous. the computer reads no codes. this happens every couple of days, it has been at 2 different shops up to weeks at a time they have changed several parts but none have fixed it.
We just took my 2016 f150 ecoboost to west texas over thanksgiving. towed under 7500 lbs. towed completely normal the whole time (15 hours) until the return trip home. about 2.5 hours into my return trip (i was towing without my husband and with two young kids on a back highway with no cell service and absolutely no stops for 2 of those hours😯) i pulled over to see where my next gas station was and my truck died. it would restart but would die again. i finally figure i'm screwed, i'll try and just hit the gas and go. so i took off and blew through a stop sign and didn't stop until i reached a gas station, where it died when i stopped.. it was saturday afternoon and all the repair shops were closed and there weren't any parts stores open. i finally unplugged the camper, thinking it was draining my battery and started it up and gassed it to get it going and didn't stop until i reached sonora and camped for the night, about 20 miles away. and then my truck was totally fine after that. i never hooked the camper back up and i had filled up the gas tank and put fuel injection cleaner into the tank and didn't have any more stalls. the only light that came on when it stalled was the battery light.
I just purchased a 2016 ford f150 lariat crew cab on 11/3/2018 and was coming to work on 11/5/2018 and the it started to idle roughly very slightly when at a stop in traffic, this happend about 3 times each time getting worse and then it did stall on the 4th time and it was a noticeable rough idle.
While traveling on interstate at a speed of 80 mph, my 2016 f-150 eco boost with 50,000 miles went into limp mode due to a faulty electronic throttle body causing me to lose the ability to accelerate and worrying for my family's life as i was decelerating on a busy 4 lane freeway trying to find a way to pull over without being smashed.
Complete unexpected loss of power at highway speeds or when accelerating. has happened repeatedly even after several repairs related to the throttle body by dealer. first happened in the 40,000 mile range and after repairs again at 83,000 miles.
I had my truck towed to auto fair ford and had to have the fuel pump replaced with $100 extended warranty and the car is a year old. after fixing it they were having issues with it not starting and called ford to trouble shoot the issue. today 3/2/18 they called to say a mouse or rodent chewed through the wiring. i have lived i'm my home since 1999 and many cars in the drive way this has never happened before. my brother said the wiring is soy based. i called liberty mutual insurance and comprehensive has a $500 deductible. they will look at the truck 3/5/18 at auto fair ford in manchester nh. i now have to pay$600 to a vehicle i have owned less then 5 months to auto fair ford. seems odd this is happing on a new vehicle
While driving on a busy highway with no warning my f-150 lost power. when this happened the drive power decreased by about 95%, and warnings appeared on the dashboard. these warnings included: service advance trac, hill descent fault, see manual, airbag fault, and the service wrench. the engine idled roughly and the vehicle had to be turned off. we restarted and the same issues occurred so we parked the vehicle.
I was merging onto a highway and i went to accelerate and li ended up with a complete loss of power, no acceleration, and a flashing wrench on my screen telling me that i was having a hill decent issue and service advancetrac error. as i tried to get off the road once i lost power; the car started shaking violently while at a complete stop.
2016 f150 with the 2.7l ecoboost randomly dies after startup. sometimes it will die while in motion almost causing an accident. there's no stored codes for the dealer. it's been in the shop 6 times total. the first time they put a crankcase vent sensor and then the 2nd time sparkplugs. it's dies and gone into limp mode multiple times but the dealer can't duplicate the problem so they can't fix it. it started at 9,000 miles and it now has 14,000 miles. i'm pretty sure it's the throttle body but they won't replace it without a code. it has happened randomly from march 2017 until today 8-13-17. i also have a recording saved on my snap-on scan tool of the parameters at the time it went into limp mode.
With a 1/4 tank of gas or 53 miles to e on an 8% down hill grade the truck will not pick up gas from the tank and the engine will shut off as if it ran out of gas.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was noticed that the fuel tank leaked fuel. the technician diagnosed that the plastic fuel tank was cracked. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the sun hit the tank and caused it to crack. the dealer stated that the failure was not covered by the warranty. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was not provided. the contact replaced the tank. the failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
For the last year my car have been leaking fumes and smelling of carbon monoxide. i have complained to mission valley ford, big valley ford and all star ford. when i start the vehicle there is white smoke and a strong fume. they said it's the ecoboost. secondly the turbo they say has gone out already at 87k miles and i believe the smell and the turbo is connected.
Driving about 50 mph lost engine speed suddenly to about 10 mph. have been told by 2 others that this also happened to them. same truck model. root cause given was throttle body cable. accelarator box. having ours towed to dealer ship today. under 10,000 miles on vehicle.
On 1/25/16, in the rain, at 6 am, i pulled out from a side street near my residence on to a major road and was increasing speed. i traveled about 150 yards and was up to about 40 mph. my truck suddenly decelerated to about 5 mph very quickly causing my car to skid in the rain. there was no accident since traffic was light at the time, so i pulled into the median and put the truck in park to see what was happening and i could not discover anything wrong. i then put the truck in gear and tried to accelerate again but the car would speed up to about 15 mph and then decelerate very quickly, almost giving it a bucking motion. after a few seconds the truck seemed to want to die, it would move and then seem to want to stop and die, and then repeat the process. i was able to get to the side of the road and park in a parking lot. i had my truck towed to the dealer and the dealer looked at it but said they couldn't find anything and had never heard of that happening to anyone before. i looked on the nhtsa site and found that many people had had this occur in this model. the work order received from the dealer did not indicate that anything was adjusted or replaced. to date it has not reoccurred.
I noticed a faint smell of gas while driving the vehicle and after a few miles a car next to me at a stoplight asked me to roll down my window. they told me my truck was leaking gas all over the road so i immediately pulled over and called for help. it was towed to a dealership where they told me a fuel line fitting was loose which caused the leak. my frustration was this was a new vehicle with only 1500 miles. the leak was severe enough to drain a full tank of gas prior to being repaired. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford f-150. while driving at any speed, the vehicle made noises from the engine and transmission areas. the contact stated that the vehicle consumed too much fuel and the air conditioning blew hot air. also, the oil low pressure warning indicator illuminated and flashed off and on. the contact also stated that the brakes squeaked and the front passenger side tire deflated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (koons ford in sterling, va) for diagnostic testing. the dealer found nothing wrong with the vehicle; however, the failures recurred several times. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the same dealer several times and, during one of the visits, the engine was replaced without the contact's consent. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and did not assist. the vehicle was not completely repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 40.
2016 ford f-150 2.7l ecoboost model with only 3,928 miles. this is the third time engine has cut off on me while driving/accelerating! was taking a left turn from side road onto main road. while accelerating in the turn, engine started stuttering a few times (rpms would dip) and then it stalled out. luckily i was able to complete my left hand turn without getting hitting by oncoming traffic and was able to pull over immediately. this time around the engine would not restart. had to call ford's roadside assistance to get towed to nearest dealership. the last two instances the dealer could not pull a code or diagnose what was wrong so nothing was done. this time the dealership has a dead truck on arrival so they can't tell me that there is nothing wrong with it (service and diagnostics has yet to be completed at the time of this writing). i have been in touch with ford regional rep regarding my cases and i am told they cannot do anything until the dealer can diagnose what the root cause is. obviously something is wrong. there are dozens of other complaints of engine stalling while driving.
Truck was running normal no check engine lights, making rt. hand turn onto highway truck started to accelerate then the accelerator pedal quite working lots of dash warning lights came on and truck would only idle, used hazards to idle off highway , shut off ignition and restarted truck still would not accelerate, let truck idle in gear to get off highway, let truck sit over night and tried to drive next morning started to accelerate then quite idle only called to have towed to dealer for repair, dealer replaced throttle body.
Engine at normal operating temp, from a stop accelerated onto highway but before reaching 50 mph truck quite accelerating and went to idle check engine and other warning lights came on the accelerator pedal went dead would not do any thing when pushed.semi truck and traffic coming from behind had to do evasive driving to avoid crashing into truck, truck idle with hazards on to safe area to pull off highway. called tow truck to tow to dealership ,dealer replaced throttle body to repair.
Engine at normal operating temp. driving at 45- 50 mph lost accelerator pedal several dash warning lights all came on and and truck only would idle.pushing on the accelerator did nothing, had to put on hazard flashers and idle to safe place to pull off highway. called tow truck to tow to dealer for repair. dealer replaced throttle body .
Second time engine stalled while driving in less than 2 weeks!!! 2016 ford f-150 xlt 2.7l eco-boost model. this is the second time the engine has stalled and shut off during driving! not even 3,600 miles on it yet. typical stop and go traffic during rush hour. went to accelerate after rolling along with traffic (<10 mph) and nothing happens. tachometer stays at around 500 rpm and does not go anywhere. since this was the second time this has happen within the last 2 weeks so i wasn't too surprised this time around. i put it in neutral and shut off ignition and try cranking it. rpms would barely stutter around 400-500 rpm and would not stay on. tried a few more attempts while still rolling in neutral. i had to brake to a stop, put it in park, and had attempted to crank it several more times until it finally started up and was idling correctly around 800-900 rpm. this is definitely a safety issue and should be investigated immediately. dealer says oem has known issue with throttle body causing ford vehicles to stall while driving. unfortunately, dealer says my vin is not part of vehicle models affected by this issue. obviously it is happening to the 2016 f150s. both of my incidents did not throw a code so there seems to be nothing dealer can do to fix the problem for the moment. i do not want to keep driving this vehicle with this defective part and unsafe condition, especially with my infant son in the rear cab.
Driving at 45 mph lost throttle only would idle lots of dash warning lights came on had to idle across train tracks to get shoulder of road had to have towed to dealer for repair, replaced throttle body.
Ford throttle body issue - vehicle has less than 9000 miles. while traveling on highway (65-70mph) in a remote area, the vehicle suddenly loss acceleration and begun to shudder. no response when pressing gas pedal. we coasted to the roadside and attempted to restart the car. vehicle dash warnings for descent assistance and collision avoidance appeared. third attempt to restart vehicle worked. the issue occurred on 4 other occasions including stalling in a busy intersection shortly after accelerating from a stop. each time restarting the car results in shuddering and error messages on the dash. dealership says its a known issue and parts will take up to 3 weeks plus repair time. manufacturer offered only to check on parts and update us 4 days later. they did not offered loan vehicle. internet research points to defective throttle body for similar vehicles. vehicle also has a defective sensor for tailgate ajar that has been unresolved in two attempts to repair. vehicle is unsafe to drive.

Exhaust smell in cab. have to drive with windows down to get rid of it. ford says they can only help me when the smell is actually happening meaning i have to go to the shop right then and there. also xm radio cuts in at out. ford knows it's an issue but has no fix. it's at the same intersections everyday. they said keep checking in for possible fixed.
