On average, the 2014 Ford F-150 starts to “feel” problems with the STEERING and its various aspects after 54 995 miles.

Recently reported STEERING problems on 2014 Ford F-150

Steering started getting tight the week of january 20,2020.it does loosen up slightly once you drive it for a few miles but it is not 100%.it is super hard to turn in the morning or after sitting 8 hours while at work. but i estimate it takes driving it about 6 to 10miles before it get easier. i have 73,000 miles on this truck and according to vin. date no recall on steering issue.

Power steering stops working intermittently making steering difficult and accident likely.

I was pulling out of a parking structure as i turn right and then try to sraighten into the street my steering wheel was not abel to turn n was making a funny noise as i tried to and almost crashed had to yank the steering wheel hard and was barely abel to turn enough to not hit a car now car is just abel to go straight.from my knowledge it has to do with the electric power steering the trucks come with and looked into it as i was parked as close as i could to the side of the street that the trucks are known for them giving out with no warning n a recall was done on a certain batch i called ford n dey said no my truck has no recalls n read up that the recall number was 14s09 n was happening to alot of those truck models

When turning the steering wheel once in a while it seems hard to turn like you have a flat tire . i see there is a recall on some of the 2014 ford f150,s but not my vin number .i called ford and they told me there is no recall . on the computer i see there is a recall bulletin under nhtsa . campaign # 14v316000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. upon starting the vehicle, the power steering failed to operate without warning. the contact was able to drive the vehicle to bondy's ford lincoln (3615 ross clark cir, dothan, al 36303, (334) 230-5941) where it was diagnosed that the power steering failed. the contact received a repair estimate of $1,600. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact of nhtsa campaign number: 14v316000 (steering); however, the vin was not included. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000.

Starting a month or two ago while driving, the power steering on my ford f150 stopped working leading to an inability to turn without using a lot of strength. the issue appears to be relatively intermittent but frequent. this means sometimes i have the ability to steer normally, but more frequently than not i am muscling the vehicle through turns. the only precedence i can find for this issue is a recall on my same make, model, and year for the electric power steering, but upon talking with ford, my truck was not identified as part of the recall, even though all of the symptoms match. i cannot find any other precedence for the issue, and cannot find any guidance. all i know is that the vehicle is not safe to drive, as there is no telling whether or not i will be able to steer. on carcomplaints.com, it appears that about 70 other people have reported the same issue. which leads me to believe the issue is very prominent, as i'm sure only a small percentage of people have reported the issue to this site.

The power steering just stop working while driving on the thruway. the repair shop replaced the alternator and it work fine for 4 days. on the 4th day i started the truck and the steering was gone again. taking it to ford today to find the problem. the 1st time on 8/18/20, 2nd time on8/23/20.

My truck doesn't want to steer right. it's very hard to steer and sometimes the steering wheel sticks. heard they are having issues with the electronic steering in these trucks. the vehicle is in motion when this is happening and it's when you are going around a bend. i should not have to pay to get this fixed. this is a major safety issue. it happens everytime i drive.

Steering is erratic steering is hard to turn from left to right . after turns truck fails to return to center. had vehicle at an independent repair shop for service and stated all front end components are good a re flash of the steering rack and pcm was done with no change to the steering.

Truck gave "service advance trac" warning. only 1 day later, a loud squealing came from front of truck, then less that 1 minute later, all steering was out. fortunately i was in a parking lot when the steering went out while trying to park the vehicle. the noise came when turning the steering wheel either right or left. as of 6/18/2019, while checking mileage for this report, a warning of "power steering assist failure" came on.

The power steering has stopped working. there is a loss of steering control and impaired steering. the truck is impossible to drive and a huge safety hazard. we were told by our mechanic after he diagnosed it that this problem was part of a recall. safety recall notice 14s09/nhtsa recall 14v316. we were then told by the ford dealership that our trucks vin number is not part of the recall. that makes no sense that we were told by the mechanic that the exact problems we are having is the exact same thing this recall is fir but our truck doesn't fall under it. please explain.

After hitting bumps in the highway the truck starts to wobble uncontrollably and the only way to get it back is to slow down to 30mph and then the wobble will stop. we have replaced the track bar, stabilizer, brakes and rosters, new tires, and balances.

Initial startup, vehicle is cold. steering has binding occurring that increases and decreases as the wheel is turned in either direction as i am driving, as it is turned from full left to right, or right to left. it requires substantial force to continue to turn the wheel to get the vehicle to go in the desired direction. as vehicle warms up, the force required to turn the wheel lessens, but still requires significant force to steer in either direction. if it became necessary to make an avoidance maneuver, it may not be possible due to the force required to steer the vehicle in the necessary direction. this has been occurring for about a week.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. the contact stated that the electric power steering malfunctioned. when the contact started the vehicle, he noticed that the steering wheel was tight. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who stated that the entire steering rack needed to be replaced. sheehy ford lincoln of richmond (10601 midlothian turnpike, richmond, va 23235, (804) 794-0500) was contacted and advised the contact to call nhtsa. the dealer did not look up the vin. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 97,805.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. after starting the vehicle, the power steering warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v316000 (steering). the approximate failure mileage was 50,000. the vin was unknown.

Power steering is only working intermittently. there was a recall on the model year, but my truck was not included. i see several online complaints about this from other owners that weren't in the recall. i live in a mountainous terrain with windy roads and if the power steering quits when zi don't expect it, i will veer off the road and have to jerk it back on.

Advancetrac service keeps coming on and steering and brakes begin pulsing and shaking and can't hardly turn , has happened when going straight and when turning while going from 35 to 70 mph on highway or side street. only 19000 miles

The power steering fails without warning. at times it requires 'muscling' the steering to turn or straighten the wheels after a turn. it happens when the vehicle is in motion on city streets, highway and turning. there are a lot of other ford f-150 truck owners having the same problem as reported on different sites. this is a serious safety concern as it causes the driver to potentially lose control of the vehicle b/c it's unpredictable. it's very expensive to have 'fixed' if the service department even knows what to do or the repair fails! there have been recalls on this problem but only in a very limited date range. also the power steering seems to be failing on other ford vehicles, as even reported to nhtsa. imagine losing steering while traveling on i-80 (esp in pa) or negotiating a turn. please investigate!!!!

Electric power steering failure

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle decelerated and both rear wheels seized. the steering wheel also seized and became difficult to steer without warning. the contact was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. the vehicle was restarted and was able to drive normally, but the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

2014 ford f-150 stx 4 door. i bought this truck new and it's been a problem since around 26,000 miles. i reported the issue with ford, took it to the dealer which went for a 30 mile joy ride i guess to tell me the problem couldn't be duplicated. absolutely enrages me how this type of product can be sold to hardworking individuals knowing that there's an issue that puts lives at risk and still deny the claims. this vehicle has absolutely ruined me from driving and makes me sick every time i drive. there is no rhyme or reason as to which way the truck will go while driving. driving down a road it travels from one side to another. if you get on the interstate and the wind is blowing you may as well get off and go all backroads or get ready to stroke out before you get to where your going. i don't think anyone understands the stress on a body of traveling on a freeway fighting to keep your vehicle on the road. the car in front of you moves it pushes the truck the opposite way, a car beside you it either pulls you toward them or big trucks nearly blow you off the road like your in a small car.you can never judge how much pressure to put on the wheel when making gradual or sudden turns on a road or highway because it's never the same. one minute you turn the wheel all the around to make a small turn and the next turn you barely touch the wheel and it may send you into the next lane. i was told by ford to drive with one finger on the wheel that the epas notices the slightest movements and that i'm countering what it was designed to do. absolute bs! i'm glad to see i bought a 40,000$ pos and the only thing ford can do is give a smirk when i take it in knowing good and well they have an issue. how you don't have a recall going puzzles me and scary to think how many others are out there with the same problem traveling on highways. junk

I was driving down the road, going about 45 mph, i went to switch lanes from the right lane to the left lane, and when suddenly my power steering (power steering assist) went out on my vehicle, as this happened, the steering wheel jerked left, causing me to run off the left side of road, i grabbed the wheel and with all my might fought the steering wheel to go back right, and barely escaped hitting a huge oak tree, the truck was then not able to be driven.when i tried to drive it again, the steering wheel would not let me turn it, it was fighting me and trying to go the opposite direction of whichever way i tired to make it go. if i tried to turn left, if fought me to go right, when i tried to turn right is fought my to stay left. no matter which way i tried to turn it, the power steering assist seemed to disagree. the error on my dash said "power steering assist fault". i started doing research online and found that ford did a recall on my model, and year for a problem with "power steering assist", the same issue that my truck is showing in the error, but ford say my truck was not part of that recall. i also found on some forum websites many other people having the same issue happen to them, and putting them in dangerous situations.

Steering return ability, steering rack. steering does not correct itself after turning must be manually done.

Electric power steering fades in and out causing erratic steering. steering wheel does not return causing the vehicle to continue in the direction of the turn after intended

While driving the power steering will lockup. it would last for a few moments and then be ok. then while driving at normal speeds will continue to do this of and on till i stop. this all happens now every time i go anywhere. there is a recall for this matter on the 2014 f150 but ford tells me not on my truck and they will not help me at all. this has been going on for months now and when i got it checked out that is when the dealer told me why it is happening. recall #14s09 (epas)

Steering wheel has been getting loose and wobbles.it is so bad that i am now afraid to drive it. feels like it can come off any day now.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while attempting to exit the garage, the vehicle lost steering ability. the contact rocked the vehicle back and forth and the steering returned to normal. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact stated that the failure occurred four other times, but then returned to normal. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000. *tt*jb

The service advancetrac and hill descent control fault come up on my dashboard and my power steering does not work. while most vehicles can be driven without power steering but this truck is not drivable without that feature. the lights and blinkers do not work. these faults happened while driving and i almost lost control of my vehicle and crashed. i'm lucky i didn't hit and kill somebody. this is a huge safety issue for which afford already knows about but refuses to fix our truck.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving various speeds, the steering became inoperable. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to townsend sales & service (340 main st, townsend, ma 01469, 978-597-8955), but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 114,000.

Truck down shifts while driving. my pregnant wife and i were driving 70 mph on highway, when truck down shifted to 1st gear and nearly caused us to slide off road in the rain. ford just recalled 2011-2013 for same problem! they need to recall 2014 as well! my truck was fixed at ford dealership.

While turning to the left i heard a sequelching noise. i then got a message to service my acutraction system. i would turn my truck off then back on and it would reset and go off. this took place for a few days. while message was on the lever for my turn signals would not stay activated. today (9/25/2018) i got the message again. this time i also got a power steering assist failure and it became very difficult to turn. truck only had 66,000 miles on it. i have got rid of truck because of it. i have also had a fault in the air bag control module.

While turning left it started making an awful noise then popped up with steering assist fault on the gauge cluster

Loss of steering control while vehicle is in motion. intermittent loss of power steering assist causing you to over steer or under steer especially when coming out of a turn. many complaints of this issue are posted on various internet sites. partial recall of epas unit for certain vin. my vehicle manufacture date is august 22, 2014 per ford customer care. manfacture date is just weeks after recall lot of identified vehicles. vehicle cannot be safely driven

First received advance trac warning, then hill descent warning and then power steering failure indication. power steering failure was sudden and unexpected and almost caused an accident when in motion doing a turn, due to electronic power steering system lock up which prevented the front wheels from turning as much as expected. this is a very dangerous unexpected condition and could have caused a serious accident with injuries or worse if occurred at highway speeds!

My son was only traveling straight at a low speed on a side street when he was no longer able to steer his truck. he then applied the brakes to stop. he had to turn off the truck wait a few minutes then turn it back on several times to get home. we checked to see if this major manufacturing defect was covered by warranty or a recall. no warranty of course (2014 f150 with 53,000 miles) the recall for this exact problem was for trucks built between may 26, 2014 and june 19, 2014 and of course my son's was built in october 2014. we are told that it will cost somewhere around $2000 to try to fix this and more than likely it will continue to fail even after being "fixed". ford knows it's been a problem since they started with it but refuses to fix the problem for everyone. they would rather risk the lives of their customers than correct their issues. i have checked online and found that even after people pay to get this fixed it continues to fail. recall number 14v316000 recall date 06/12/2014 component steering:electric power assist system summary ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain model year 2014 ford f-150 trucks manufactured may 26, 2014 to june 19, 2014, and equipped with electronic power assist steering (epas). the affected vehicles may have an incorrectly installed epas gear motor position sensor magnet that can lead to a total loss of steering control while driving. consequence a loss of steering control while driving increases the risk of a vehicle crash. what owners should do ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the epas steering gear, free of charge. the recall began in july 2014. note: owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until they have been remedied. owners may contact ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. ford's number for this recall is 14s09.

Lost steering momentarily while driving under dry, normal conditions on a mountainous hiway and crossed left of center when power assisted steering failed. hill descent control fault and service advance trac errors appeared on my panel. dealer was unable to find computer generated errors and could notr/did not repair. has occured twice more with same results.

2014 ford f-150 serious loss of power steering issue, notice going out at certain inclines of highway, checked fuse on batter looks ok, noticed different levels of ac/heat fan speed variations, warning lt. reads check advance traction control. should be a recall according to complains i've read on issue..

The power steering faults while driving and there is no steering

The electronic power steering is not working correctly, about every quarter turn it binds up for a sort distance. this causes you to both over-steer and under-steer

Loss of power steering- in march 2018 this started happening, to date it has happened 4 times. the first time i was pulling out of grocery store, my power steering went out and the " service advance trac" "hill decent control fault" came on my screen, i was in oncoming traffic, second time i was turning into my neighborhood and loss the ability to turn my wheel, 3rd time was getting on the highway and at an onramp, this time i was headed into a highway perpendicular and cars were coming at me 70+ mph. then my son and i were turning onto a highway when i lost control of steering and locked up my brakes to keep from hitting a semi- they had to lock their brakes up and swerve to keep from hitting us. then today i got it back, and made it 1 mile down the road before again i was getting on the highway and i could not turn my wheel, an embankment kept me from going perpendicular onto the highway again. police came and helped me get back over and blocked cars from hitting me . each time i have taken my truck to matthews ford to be fixed, each time i was told it was fixed, i am not complaining on them as i feel they have genuinely done what they thought would fix it. the staff has been more than accommodating considering i was shaking, crying and cussing. ford motor company has stated tay cannot help me as my ruck was not in the 2014 f150 recall #14s09. it was just a month shy of it. i have had no return calls from management as promised ( from ford) i was told my case would be expedited due to possible death/injury and i would hear from manager within 24 hours, and that never happened. please help! attached are all the service reports minus the one today.

Power steering fault and service advanstrac message displayed on start up while parked, lost all power steering in truck. i took to local ford dealer, bob bell ford, glen burnie, md 21061. dealer first diagnosed as bad battery and reprogramming needed. i expressed i had researched and found issues with epas as cause, was assured battery would correct issue. once home the truck threw the same codes the following morning and had lost of power steering. i took back to dealer that afternoon. dealer advised they needed to install new electronic steering gear part # el3z be replaced with part # el3z 3504. truck is a 2014 ford f150 with about 56k miles on it. i have found that there are numerous complaints (easy google search) about fords epas gear in the f150 and other vehicles, causing an expensive replacement cost for the entire steering gear. to my knowledge there have been recalls on similar if not same part for epas on f150 and others. i would like to request your consideration into investigating fords epas and holding them accountable for a recall and full payment of replacement parts. total out of pocket expense was over $1700, after their initial diagnosis, replacement of battery, reprogramming, gear replacement and labor. thank you
