Problems with 2012 Ford F-150 SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2012 Ford F-150 starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 58 739 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2012 Ford F-150

Hard brake pedal resulting in no or very little braking when engine is cold and vehicle is stationary, every day, every time i start the vehicle. once the pump begins working or becomes unstuck, i do have brakes, however i am very concerned that this will result in brake failure and an accident with serious injury to me and my passengers. this vehicle has had a recall on certain models for this issue resulting from a bad vacuum pump. ford customer service has said my vehicle is not involved in the recall. it obviously is, because it is the exact same problem involved in the recall.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving 35 mph, the brake warning indicator illuminated. the contact depressed the brake pedal, but it failed to engage. the contact lifted her foot off the brake pedal and coasted the vehicle to a complete stop. the vehicle was towed to community ford lincoln of bloomington (2200 s walnut st, bloomington, in 47401, (812) 331-2200) where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder and brake booster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 90,624.

I was casually driving on the highway just outside of atlanta when all of a sudden i felt a jolt in the rear end and my advanced traction control turned on and stated that there was a problem. i pulled over and called a tow truck to take it to the ford dealership for service. the dealership advised me that somehow my rear axle differential had snapped on the rear driver side. they stated that usually they see that in high lifted trucks or with towing something heavy. my truck is standard lift and i do not tow any trailers and i am thinking it could possibly have been a factory defect as my truck is still pretty young and has only 114000 miles

Intermittently, there is a hard brake pedal at first start. after a few presses of the brake it goes away.

The truck was in park i had stepped out to check the mail with my children in the truck the next thing i knew my truck was moving like it was in gear i jumped in pressed the break and it still showed it in park i pushed into park harder and it stopped.. i was not on a hill or anything to make it roll and it was actually moving like it was put into gear

Driving 75mph towing boat. truck shifts into 1st gear. redlined engine, many noises, slipping transmission, step on pedal to accelerate, it goes to 5k before shifting. almost caused major highway disaster. now my family is afraid to ride in vehicle. also when first start up no brakes. recalls where done for both , did not fix either.

Extremely hard pedal on start up. ford has a customer satisfaction program called 15n05 for this very problem. online, my vehicle is the type and was built during the dates and places specified. when i called, they said my vin number was not covered.

Contrary to the resolution stated in nhtsa investigation ea 15-006, ford is refusing to cover the defective vacuum pump even though it falls with in the affected vehicle production time and is within 10 years and 150,000 miles.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle was excluded from manufacturer campaign number: 15n05 (electric vacuum pump extended coverage); however, the vehicle exhibited the same failure. the contact stated that there was an abnormal clunking sound when the brake pedal was depressed and when reversing. there was no warning indicator each time the failure occurred. the contact stated that the brake pedal was becoming harder to depress as the failure was becoming more intermittent. the vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer or an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was not available.

Electric vacuum assist pump failures that resulting in the loss of brake power assist'making it far more difficult to get the vehicle to stop. this vehicle has 39,000 miles on it and it gives no warning . i am concerned with injury or a crash. the dealer states this is not a current recall. i have noticed there a several complaints and some crashes have occurred because of this issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while reversing, the brake pedal was difficult to depress and the vehicle rolled. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 79,770.

Nhtsa action #ea15006, ford company initiated customer satisfaction program 15n05. i had the electric vacuum pump (evp) replaced by for on 4/25/17 with 48,846 mi. by 3/19 i started hearing a noise in cab during cold starts, but it took a little while during cold starts it made the noise for me figure out is was coming from the engine area. i realize it was the evp again. not 2 years and with about 63 and change miles, a mechanic said it was the evp again. i contacted ford dealer and they denied replacing the bad part, saying i only had 1 year or 12k to have it replaced. all of fords other parts get a 2 year warranty, except evp. contacted ford complaint line on 4/13, they told me to have issue verified by a ford mechanic 1st. i did & on 4/17/19 gave them complaint, they gave me complaint #. the ford dealer i used called me back on 4/29/19, said ford denied fixing it as warranty, but offered to give me $100 of a $442 repair. dealer said if i wanted the evp, to order it because they were on back order, it would be weeks. i called complaint line, asked to speak to someone else besides the warranty department about safety issue with evp, they gave me a new complaint # and said someone would call me- told them i wanted a supervisor, they said they were unavailable . i never heard from ford. i called ford back on 5/20/19, call taker said last complaint wasn't put in right, that's why no one called. i told her i wanted to talk to a supervisor, again said they were unavailable. one tried to call me at 9:23pm on 5/20?? then called me on 5/23/19 at 7:04pm- i advised him the evp is gone bad, sounds worst the the 1st time it went. he said i was outside warranty & they would not fix it under the warranty. i advised him that ford knew this was an issue, because it is not longer a evp, it's a mechanical vacuum pump (mvp) now- it hooks into the motor. ford put evp on as a band-ad

I have a 2012 f-150 with the 3.5l ecoboost engine, 100,000 miles. i have been having problems with no power brakes when truck is initially started and the dealer diagnosed this as a failed vacuum pump this typically happens at slow speeds the first several times you stop. a recall was forced in canada and a customer satisfaction warranty extension is in place in the usa (15n05). both cover the 2011 to 2012 f-150 with ecoboost engine. for some reason my vin is not included in the recall & customer satisfaction policy. brakes intermittently have no power assist and its very difficult to stop truck, especially when you arent expecting the brakes to fail like that. this is a common problem and i have contacted ford customer service - but all they will tell me is my vin isnt covered. they need to expand this to cover more vehicles - its a huge safety related issue. i cant believe no recall has been issued.

In february 2017 while backing out of a parking space on a down hill slop i was unable to stop the vehicle and into grass area almost hitting a tree in reverse. the power brakes were so hard i could not move the brake pedal. once it came to rest i put the vehicle in drive and let off the brake pedal then reapplied the brake and they worked. i then took the vehicle to the dealer and they performed a recall fsa 15n05 on 2/27/2017 with 35,514 miles on the vehicle. then on 2/16/2019 i was backing out of my garage and again could not stop the vehicle and went into grass hill of my yard.again my brake pedal was hard and no power brakes. when the vehicle came to a stop i let off the brake and reapplied and they started to work again. i took vehicle to the dealer that day for them to check it out. they notified me it again was the brake vacuum pump has has failed again and ford will not fix it since it was fixed once before under this recall. the dealer also told me they cannot fix it due to the pumps being back ordered for at least 30 days. so the first recall repair only lasted 19,108 miles and less than 2 years. luckily no one was behind me behind me to get run over and no damage occurred. my feeling that this is clearly a safety issue and parts should last longer. it appears to be a problem since the part is now on back order and looks to be a poor design.

The vehicle was in motion and as i was driving in a parking lot i went to apply the brakes but the pedal went to the floor and the low fluid indicator came on. i was able to use the parking brake to get the vehicle to stop. i opened the hood and found my reservoir was nearly empty but there were no signs of leakage around the reservoir. i got under the vehicle and could night see signs of leakage on brake line or any of the calipers.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while the contact was testing the brake pedal while the vehicle was in park, he noticed that the brake pedal was not engaging. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 112,000.

Theory - vehicle manufacturers can simulate or induce failure of various parts/systems through the computer programming systems that run vehicles causing vehicle owners to make unneeded repairs which creates demand for parts and labor throughout the dealership network. my vehicle has had the following issues arise after the warranty expired. 1) dashboard display of gear vehicle is operating in stopped illuminating 2) windshield wiper stays on lowest intermittent setting after wiper is turned off 3) vehicle makes noise for 5-10 seconds following ignition during which brake pedal is soft. 4) sound of grinding/scraping from the front end 5) power steering is stiff during low speed turns my response to these situations were/are as follows: 1) checked the fuses - everything was good there. several months later the display illuminated and has stayed illuminated ever since. 2) the local dealership recommended replacing a $100 part - i continued to switch the wipers on and off until wipers stayed off. situation still requires on/off switching sometimes but has improved over time 3) the local dealership recommended replacement of a $400 brake vacuum pump. i continued to wait for brake pedal to firm before operating the vehicle and the situation resolved to normal presently. that is to say there is no problem with the brakes. 4) took the vehicle in for service and incurred a $700+ charge for iwes system. dealership said the check valves had stuck open and dirt and dust had entered the system requiring replacement of parts 5) this is the latest issue with the vehicle. it only happens when turning after a stop and doesn't happen every day. i suspect it will resolve itself overtime if my theory as stated at the top is correct.

Bought 2012 f150 w/ ecoboost new. at 91k miles, experienced loss of power when accelerating while merging into heavy traffic flow. as a result of no power, we were almost t-boned into the passenger side which would have severly injured or killed my wife. come to discover there is a chronic timing chain design defect and caused catastrophic engine failure at 91k miles. the engine was maintained religeously and oil changes were with nothing but high quality amsoil. ford knows about the timing chain problem with the 2012 3.5 ecoboost motor. ford mechanic stated the failure was most likely delayed due to using amsoil, the failures typically occur earlier than 91k miles. ford will not do anything about it. ford dealer is putting a new ford motor in it entirely at my expense. also the vehicle had a recall for a brake problem involving the electronic brake vacuum system. ford completed the recall but must have replaced the faulty parts with the same new faulty parts because it is happening again. ford again will not stand behind their product and fix or cover the costs of the design defect problem. ford even addresses this problem with their customer satisfaction program 15n05. niether the ford dealer completing the repairs or the ford dealer where i purchased the truck new are able to do anything about the problems because ford motor company will not allow them. ford is at fault and both are safety issues that they refuse to fix. these defects are unsafe and unacceptable. so much for ford customer satisfaction. i will never buy another ford product again!

2012 f150: replaced the vacuum pump in oct 2016 based on recall and issues with pressing the brake down when starting up. same issue started again in june 2018. brought it back to liccardi ford and they state the issue is "brake booster vacuum pump sensor and pump relay" . they charge me $140 for diagnosis and when i pick up the truck for a second opinion, the "check brake system" warning light is on. i did not have this issue when i dropped it off.

Very little to no brakes at all. of course the same issue everyone else is having. vacuum pump/ brake booster! definitely a safety issue and how they haven't fixed this issue yet is beyond me. no actually i do know since i'm a ford employee myself, but i'll save that for a representative. remember 'quality is job one!' Loss of braking while backing up just after cold start, due to vacuum pump failure on 3.5l ecoboost, reference ford customer satisfaction program 15n05 & nhtsa investigation - even after having repair done previously by ford under the program / extended warranty - vacuum pump failed again less than 2 years after first vacuum pump replacement causing the braking issues

While attempting to start the truck i place my foot on the brake it is hard as a rock, will not move down or allow to use, put vehicle in gear no brakes almost drove through garage door this occurs every time i use the vehicle the cause is brake assist vacuum pump which should cause a recall, as somebody who uses this truck or one like it with the same problem could run over somebody no photos available as the part is hidden behind the left front headlight

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 f-150. while driving in reverse, the brake pedal was applied, but failed to respond and traveled to the floorboard. the vehicle was taken to bill brown ford (32222 plymouth rd, livonia, mi 48150, (734) 399-4244) where it was diagnosed that the front brakes needed to be repaired. the brakes were replaced, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 70,000.

Our 2012 raptor that we have had since new, with 63k miles, was driving fine when the brake fluid light and emergency brake lights came on and lost all power braking. we were able to get the truck to the dealer without an accident and it was diagnosed with a failed master cylinder which bled into the brake booster. we can update with work receipts when we receive the truck back next week.

When i start the truck i have to let it idle and warm up for about five minutes. if i do not let the truck warm-up and i put it in gear the brake pedal is very firm and the truck will not stop. the brake pedal pulses like the abs system is kicking on but the truck will not stop. recently, the truck will not stop if cruise control is turned on. if cruise control is on and i push the brake pedal the brake pedal is very firm and cruise control will not turn off and the truck will not slow down. i have to manually turn off cruise control from the steering wheel and then the brakes will work again. i was driving down interstate 44 in oklahoma when i tried to hit the brakes and the truck did not stop. before i left on the road trip i let the truck warm-up so that the brakes would work when i first left the driveway.

I purchased the vehicle as certified used in 2014 with 32,000 miles. since ownership, we have taken the vehicle to 4 different dealerships around the st. louis area with complaints of excessive brake noise on start up. all dealerships have mentioned that it's normal and vehicles will make some noise after sitting. this issue can happen if vehicle is driven, parked and then moved within a 15-20 minute period. the noise was to the point of being obnoxious, at approximately 65,000 miles i replaced the brakes on both axles. the problem still continues to happen and has gotten even worse. appears that there is already a service bulletin and ford extended warranty regarding this issue, but multiple dealers have made it appear that there wasn't an issue.

I had ny truck in for service, was told there was a recall on vacuam oump and it was replaced. i did not initiate that repair. less than 75000 miles. now truck in for service again and i am told the pump needs to be replaced again, again not initiated by me, but now not covered. still less than 100,000 miles. pedal has no assist at startup. hard to stop after startup

I filed a complaint # 11078458 about the brake vacuam booster pump, that has already been replaced once and neglected the fact that i was involved in a low speed accident on 1/17/18, and did not connect them until reading on line. i found out about the problem 3/10/18 the accident was at an intersection, trying to accelerate into traffic from stop when car in front dead stopped at green light. speed at time of impact 4 mph?

Ford issued recall 15n05 for the electric vacuum pump. this was to be a onetime fix which i had repaired when it failed. the new electric vacuum pump failed again 20,000 miles and 13 months later with the same issue. ford will not repair. the parts are obviuosly faulty as my dealer told me several f150 trucks they repaired unter this recall are breaking again.

2012 ford f-150. consumer writes in regards to vacuum brake booster safety recall. *ld the consumer stated after having the vacuum brake booster repaired under recall, the failure ocurred 2 more times. the manufacturer was notified. *js

Someone stopped short in front of me. i applied the brakes but could not avoid hitting car. the brake indicator on front control display said my brakes are ok. once i crashed the seat belt engaged but i still hit the steering wheel with my chest. the airbags did not deploy! there was some heavy smoke though around the seat belt area or from perhaps the electrical connections under the seat?

The brakes gave out and all of the brake fluid leaked out. the brake went straight to the floor. there are no injuries involved, but could have been fatal if on a highway at speed vs in a parking lot.

Brake vacuum pump failure: used 2012 ford f150 purchased in october 2016. when we moved in march 2017 to a home with a slight driveway slant, there were daily brake issues where when applying the brake it would feel stiff and fail to stop the vehicle. upon investigation, we learned that a recall had been done on our make, model, and year of vehicle due to a vacuum brake pump failure, but were told that our vehicle was made at a different plant then where the recall was valid for. on 4/24/17 we took the vehicle in to have it checked out and were told by the dealership that this was "normal" and charged $83.95 for this. within a couple weeks we started hearing another loud noise when starting the vehicle and took it in on 5/12/17 where the timing chain was replaced under powertrain warranty. a month later, the service brake light started coming on while driving, but if we stopped and turned off the vehicle and turned it back on it would stay off (for a day or two). we called and were told not to bring it in unless the light was actually on. a week later the light came on and we took it into an auto shop to have the codes read to identify the issue to show the dealership. on 6/21/17 the vehicle was taken in with the readings and at that time we were informed that the vacuum pump had failed and needed to be replaced. ford refused to pay for any of the service and we were charged $559.08 for the exact problem the other vehicles had been recalled for and which we were originally told was "normal" to not be able to use the brakes on our vehicle for 20 seconds or so when started. at this time we requested to see what repairs had been done on the vehicle in the past prior to us purchasing the vehicle and our listed below:3/21/16 replace timing chain at bickley ford;3/21/16 replace vacuum pump at bickley ford;4/8/16 replace hoses for vacuum pump at bickley ford

2012 ford f150. consumer writes in regards to brake system recall. *ld the consumer stated the brakes were repaired under recall, but the failure recurred. the brakes fail when reversing. when going forward the brakes have very little power and had a loud noise coming from the vacuum booster. the pedal was difficult to depress and had a major grinding issue. *js

I was driving normal speed and had to make a quick stop because the truck in front of me stopped short in front of my. i slammed the brakes to stop and my truck did not stop and collided with the car in front of me. there were no skid marks, the truck just did not stop. i had the brakes done the day before and i did not stop. i took my truck to ford to check brake boost vacuum pump because it was making noises. they replaced it because the part was defective. i believe this is what caused my accident and the inability to stop quickly. ford has replaced the part and the brakes are working properly but the pump is still noisy. i believe this to be related to the 2011‐2012 ford f‐150 equipped with 3.5l gtdi engines ea15‐006 brake vacuum pump failure

At initial startup after sitting over night the brakes do not work correctly. it sounds like the exact issue with the 13-14 recall. after a couple pumps on the brakes the pressure is back and they work fine. as i am backing out of the garage it feels like the brakes lock up a couple times and then they are fine.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving in reverse at 3 mph, the contact's husband depressed the brake pedal and the pedal traveled to the floorboard. the vehicle failed to slow down or stop. as a result, the driver struck a pole. the driver shifted the vehicle into drive and the vehicle independently accelerated as the brake pedal was depressed completely to the floor. the driver then shifted the vehicle into park and was able to stop the vehicle. the air bags did not deploy. no injuries were sustained. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was driven to the contact's home. on the way to the contact's home, the brake pedal became fully depressed again. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 52,000.

Upon first starting the vehicle and putting it into reverse, the brake pedal becomes hard/stiff causing the vehicle to continue in reverse, even when increasing the effort in an attempt to stop the vehicle completely. at this time, a loud grinding noise can be heard as the vehicle fails to stop and continues to slide backwards down the driveway or parking lot. this happens in the morning when i leave for work, as well as when i leave the work parking lot. i live in a suburb surrounded by young kids and people out walking their dogs in the morning. it is extremely dangerous for me to back my vehicle out of my garage not knowing if there is traffic or pedestrians until i am completely outside the garage, at which time it is too late to stop the vehicle due to the malfunction where the truck continues to slide even after i push the brakes as hard as possible in an attempt to stop the truck from reversing. when investigating the problem, i discovered there has been a reported problem with 2011-2012 ford f-150 pickup trucks with the issue as the 'brake vacuum pump failure'. when contacting several ford dealers, my husband and i were informed that there has been a recall, but the recall was not specific to our vin number as it was made in a different area; therefore, they will not pay for it. one ford dealer associate was very rude about our situation as well. i should not have to be fearful every morning i leave for work that a small child may be crossing the sidewalk by my driveway when my vehicle's brakes malfunction, and neither should anyone else who is having similar problems but cannot receive the repairs due to having the incorrect vin number, simply because our vehicle was not at the same location as the others.

On december 25th exiting highway entering gas station as i was looking for a parking driving around gas station when i applied the brake i notice it was not stopping and the brake light started flashing. i was able to circle gas station parking lot when i had to put it in neutral and turn the truck off and started apply the brake again after 25 30 feet it came to a stop. towed the truck to the nearest dealership and when the technician inspected the truck it did not fault. received the truck back december 28th and drove roughly 70 miles later when the same issue occurred driving down interstate 20 and had to repeat the same procedure during the gas station by placing truck in neutral and turning ignition off towed truck to new dealership wont receive the diagnosis for brake failure till the 2nd of january 2017. *tr

The brakes give out periodically i was almost involved in a collision due to it i took it to asheville nc ford and they replaced a part but it is still doing it i now live in elko nv i checked for a recall and it says my trucks vin showed no recall but it's doing the same thing as the trucks on recall. as i'd start in the morning and apply the brakes they'd be stiff and not work i'd try pumping them and they'd growel and barely work then after a short time they'd be find they gave out once while i was driving almost causing a wreck that's when i took it to asheville ford nc and thought it was fixed but it's still doing it and you never know when it's going to happen not a real warm feeling

This vehicle has been involved in several slow speed brake failures as follows: 12/05/17 unable to stop vehicle when backing out of driveway. it seemed to have a very hard brake pedal. vehicle ran into curb at other side of street. no damage to vehicle. 02/05/17 vehicle involved in accident. rear end another vehicle at stop light. vehicle did not stop in expected distance when brakes applied.. excessive pedal force was needed. 10/13/16 vehicle involved in accident at stop sign. vehicle did not stop in expected distance and collided with with another vehicle. excessive pedal force required to stop vehicle.

No brakes when starting up my truck, plus went through a stop sign, it did not stop, after that the brakes started to work again, but every time i start the truck up in my garage, and back it out there are no brake ,it been doing this oct to now, if i push hard on the brake it will slowly stop it

Had this problen from start but did not know it only have 30k miles on 2012 do not have many highway miles but when traveling brake light comes on . have had checked two times and nothing wrong with brakes. had ford ck and found to be vacume leak that has been there for long time when this happens i have manual brakes at best . ford said not warrentied and 700.00 to fix . i guess ford is waiting for someone to get killed before they recall. if anyone out there can help please advise.

While driving on the interstate doing 75mph pulling a 6000lb camper the brakes wouldn't work. the stayed firm and would not allow me to depress them. then errors came across the screens warning of a break system failure.

While at a red light on hyw 59 with my foot on the brake pedal it suddenly went soft and depressed completely to the floor. i proceeded to a truck service shop where a mechanic did a quick look and found no leaks, i then made an apt at a ford dealer in canada where they discovered that the master brake cylinder had an internal fault and was replaced at a cost of 992.53 to myself.

First of all i have a pickup with a reconstructed title. upon entering highway and starting to accelerate, i had to stop immediately for stopped vehicle in front of me. my pedal was real hard and it didn't feel like my normal pedal. i wasn't sure i would stop, but it did just in time. it is the hardest i have ever applied a brake pedal in my 44 plus years driving and not one tire locked up or any pulsation on pedal. ford has sent me a letter with customer satisfaction program "15n05". vacuum pump failure. which applies to what happen to me. they informed me that this was a warranty issue that branded titles are not covered, not a safety issue, which would cover a branded title. how can brakes not be safety? ford has changed this brake system after only a couple of years. just because it only involves a couple of years, ford should make this a safety issue not extended warranty to keep the nhtsa from forcing their hand.

The brake fluid light came on and the brakes stopped working. there was no sign of a leak. i filled the master cylinder 2 times within 2 miles and samething continued to happen. i was able to slowly get it to a dealership and it was the booster and master cylinder. no signs of leaks. immediately stopped functioning.

Riding down the road low brake fluid light comes on and brake light pull over put 24 oz. brake fluid in drive for 20 miles hi-way same thing pull over master cylinder almost dry. refill check vehicle for leaks nothing drive 1/2 mile check fluid down half way take truck to dealer say,s master cylinder leaking into booster pump luckily driving early morning no traffic and was able to pull off road quickly could have been disasters

Got in the truck in the morning, the truck was cold was backing up and pushed the break pedal and did not have breaks..this has happened twice to me.once in november of 2015 and february of 2016,when i called my wife to ask for the vin# to fill out this report she said it has happened to her also 3 times in the last month .no breaks.in the morning,we live in michigan.

On start up the power brakes can fail to work resulting in extreme difficulty in stopping the truck when backing up our of the driveway or a parking space. this has resulted in two near miss accidents with parked cars in a parking garage. the issue appears to be limited to start-up for now. if you start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, the brakes appear to pressurize and work fine. it has not occurred while driving at speed. there is not indication of any braking issue with the onboard display.
