Problems with 2012 Ford F-150 ENGINE

On average, the 2012 Ford F-150 starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 34 446 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2012 Ford F-150

2012 ecoboast engine unexpectedly shuts down when i begin to accellerate m i begin to accellerate into my lane or across oncoming traffic --- or no traffic. . my speed rapidly decreases during this 2 to 5 second "delay" and has resulted in many near misses when in heavy traffic. especially dangerous is when stuck in heavy stop & go traffic, when i must quickly adjust between the gas and brake to prevent a crash. in this heavy traffic scenerio, the engine will begin to " backfire" and brings me to a stop in this traffic --- and then suddenly "catches on" and brings me to a panic braking option. i've taken this issue to my ford dealers over the past 7 months, and they have no solution --- although all are aware of similar complaints such as mine --- they even have a name for it --- "limb mode and or turbo lag." nhtsa has many similar scenerios in its curretn "complaint" log but no info regarding the status of the complaints. this condition is extremely dangerous and could result in injuries or deaths.

Full throttle passing. severe engine miss. loss of power. could not complete pass. had to pull back in line. seams to be problem on ecoboost v6 engines. cold climate humidity. possible fix service bulletin parts b o intermittent cant predict when power loss will happen

V6 ecoboost engine went into limp home mode while attempting to pass. unexpected failure of engine caused loss of power and would not travel faster than 10 miles per hour. unexpected situation occurrence is extremely dangerous and occurred at highway speed of 55 mph. ford dealership has technical service bulletin on problem but ford does not have parts available to fix with backorder of parts projected to be 2 months. ford dealer indicated problem occurs because moisture builds up in air intake cowl and when turbo intercooler senses the moisture engine shuts down. this is a serious problem requiring a better response by ford motor co. *tr

While driving down the highway, vehicle will go into "limp" mode. power reduces on vehicle and will not allow to maintain highway speeds. this has happened many times during a trip especially in humid and cold conditions. the scariest situation has been while towing a trailer. truck went into the reduced power limp mode and was almost run into by a semi truck. i have had the truck into the dealership several times with attempts to repair. they have replaced a few engine sensors that they claim were causing issues, but the truck still had issue during colder weather. *tr

While driving my 2012 f-150 ecoboost driving on the interstate- sped up to jump in front of somebody, the engine totally bogged down.... wouldn't accelerate at all... luckily didn't get ran over. this has happened 5 times since. i have talked to multiple people that have the ecoboost engine and it has happened to them. *tr

Accelerating from freeway on ramp at about 25 mph, slowly pushing pedal down truck tachometer gauge speed up to between 5500 rpm and 7000 rpm. however truck did not move. transmission acted like it was in neutral. this lasted 4 or 5 seconds; then engine started missing and running rough. all the time vehicle had slowed to approximately 15 mph. i narrowly avoided being rearended by pulling off the shoulder of the highway. this happen on i-20 near the rest area west bound in monahans texas. weather was clear, and temp about 42 degrees. has happened at least three times since then. fuel was from national vendor and same brand i normally use. dealer is oblivious to this and what to do. *tr

While traveling at highway speed (cold winter morning), with cruise control on, started to climb hill, engine began to throttle up, then the truck began to shake violently, engine lost power. shut off cruise control and coasted onto shoulder. was able to slowly engage throttle and continue, but any increase in throttle above "gentle" would bring on the shudder and power loss. engine light flashed and stayed lit for next 20 minutes. experienced similar scenario later the same day. took to dealer. dealer indicated charged air cooler works "too well". cools air so much that condensation forms and causes the issue. dealer indicated a technical service bulletin had been issued on the problem. need new cac and shield. two weeks (+/-) before parts arrived. dealer completed tsb 12-10-19 , according to the work order: replaced cac cooler assembly and installed new air deflector shield, reprogrammed pcm. did not fix the issue. same problem on the way home from the dealer. drove it for one week assuming moisture may need time to "clear up". problem still existed for 7 days. any mild to strong throttle input would bring on shudder. one week after "fixed" with new cac, i tried to merge onto highway, at 60-70 % throttle, violent shudder occurred and engine began to lose power. again, coasted on shoulder until truck would respond to throttle input without shuddering and power loss. luckily, traffic was "light" at the time. could have been a serious incident. engine light came on and has not gone off for 3 days. now any throttle input beyond "gentle" brings on the shudder. contacted dealer, going back in. truck has eco boost v6. *tr

Ford's ecoboost engine v6 3.5l cut power when attempting to merge on to highway at 55mph. severe engine vibrations ensued. very dangerous issue if there is a lot of traffic behind person driving. truck still has less than 15k miles, has been in the shop 2x already in attempts to rectify the issue, and still has problem. *tr

Driving on highway, began to pass a semi truck. engine began to shake and shudder and then power loss. had to make sudden brake to avoid head on collision with oncoming car. engine light is on and ford has told me that they did not have an immediate fix to the problem. have since been told that there is a moisture problem in the turbo coolers. they do not have parts to fix and do not have a fix date. they told me to keep driving the truck but i am afraid that the motor will cut out and cause a crash that could be fatal. the dealership wont give me another truck to drive in the mean time. i do not have extra vehicles to leave it parked until they find a fix. i am fearful of driving the truck as it is and ford cant fix it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns 2012 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the check engine lamp illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 4,000 and the current mileage was 4,090.

While driving during a light rain, i started to pass a slower moving vehicle. when i accelerated to pass, the engine stalled to idle speed, causing me to have to abort the pass and pull back in behind the vehicle. *tr

This write up is for a 2012 ford f-150 truck with the 3.5l ecoboost v-6 installed. jan, 2013-while driving on i-24e, i was pulling out from the rest stop, just north west of exit 1. i went to pass a 18 wheeler and my truck came "unglued". it practically died in the passing lane when i pressed the gas peddle. it shuddered so hard; i didn't think i would be able to get off of the road before it died. it was missing and shuddering like crazy. i pulled off exit 1, shut the truck down and restarted. it ran ok without that same thing happening on the way home. i had a pretty descent "miss" in 6th gear, running down the interstate at 75mph. something very strange happened here. it was the first issue i've had with my truck. although i've noticed recently the mpg is down by 2.0 mpg or more for the last three weeks, and this from refueling at different locations, and the same driving style. ford applied the tsb to reprogram the pcm/tcm to latest level, installed a deflector shield on the intercooler and possibly replace the drivers side catalytic converter if needed. july, 2013- this weekend while driving on i-65n, i had the same issue happen. the truck now has 17,000 miles on it. i've had the vehicle back into my local ford dealer four times for this issue. the vehicle exhibits this issue when it's rainy and has been driven in the rain for several (50 or more) miles. in heavy traffic this is a very dangerous issue. the vehicle goes into some type of safe mode and will barely limp off the road. if this issue were to occur while crossing a four lane hwy, and sputtered one could be seriously injured or injure someone else. *tr

The truck started shaking violently while trying to pass a truck on the two lane highway. there was a huge loss in power and couldn't complete passing the truck. extremely unsafe to have to slow down while still shaking and bucking to get back behind the truck that i was trying to pass. this violent shaking and loss of power has happened many times even after the many trips to the ford service department's. none of the bandages have worked that ford has attempted. this has been a nightmare to not feel safe in a 4x4 truck nor will my wife ride in it anymore because of the issue scaring her last time she rode in the truck. the problem happens when it rains or has rained recently or is humid which would be every day in the state of florida. *js

While entering the highway from the ramp i pulled into the first lane and tried to accelerate. the truck started to miss and buck and would not increase in speed causing me to pull off the roadway. i shut the truck off and restarted it. the truck will only run if you accelerate very slowly. any attempt to gain speed is met with the same response. i took the vehicle to the ford dealer where they cleared the codes and informed me ford was having problems with water in the intercooler. at this time they have no parts to repair this problem and told me to drive the vehicle as it is. my fear is someone could get killed. the vehicle is not safe to drive. if ford knows there is a problem and can't fix it wouldn't they be responsible. *tr

While driving at highway speeds, after accelerating to pass another vehicle, the truck suddenly shuddered and there was significant power loss. so much so, it was dangerous to get over to the side of the road to see what was wrong. the vehicle continued acting like this throughout the day. i took it into a ford dealership who 'resolved' the issue. 1.5 years layer, the same exact thing started occurring again (18jul2014). again, it was unsafe for me to pull over after such a considerable power loss. *tr

I purchased this vehicle for my son in december 2012. we took a trip to alabama on the saturday following the purchase. the truck had problems stalling, misfiriing, and not braking immediately. we have taken the truck to the ford dealership for repairs approximately 15 to 20 times. it is in the shop again today for the misfiring/stalling. the service writer told my son that his vehicle has only been the shop twice for the same problem. we still have all the service paperwork to dispel that remark, this vehicle has approximately 24,000 miles on it. the factory warranty expires in december and has still not been fixed. it does not just stall in rainy or very humid conditions as stated by ford in their response to the nhtsa investigation. they have replaced spark plugs twice, updated software, put a heat shield in front of the inter-cooler. none of these things have worked. the shield in front of the inter-cooler defeats the purpose of the inter-cooler by not allowing it to cool as intended. it raises the temperature in the intercooler in an attempt to produce less condensation. my son believes the inter-cooler has a design flaw. he thinks that the air return from the inter-cooler to the engine being on the bottom allows more condensation to be sucked back into the engine. if it were on the top, more of the condensation would stay in the bottom and not returned back to the engine. there is an after market fix for this problem but it is expensive and i believe ford motor company does not want to spend the kind of money that it will take to fix this problem correctly. this vehicle should be able to operate efficiently under any conditions. if it does not, it is flawed. i will probably have to purchase the replacement inter-cooler out of my own pocket. i've included all this information in the event that it helps others with the same problem.

I pulled out to pass a slower vehicle on a two lane highway in a passing zone as accelerating my f150 loss power and began shaking. luckily i was able to pull back into my lane before the oncoming car hit me head on. my f150 continued to shake a lose power, after a few moments of this it regained power and the shaking halted. my check engine light has remained on since this.i took the truck in to my dealer to check this out and was told it is a problem with the intercooler and they would order parts to repair. as of today (feb, 20th 2013) i am still waiting for the parts to come in. i have spoken with ford customer care and was informed the supposed parts are on a back order. the loss of power and shaking has happened a few more times since, also my remote start does not work due to the check engine light being on. my fuel mileage has dropped from 18.7 to 14 mpg. i do not feel safe driving this vehicle, as you never know when it is going to lose power. *tr

Intermittent stumble/misfire on acceleration from highway speeds, engine feels like it is in limp mode, this has happened four times. *tr

While passing a vehicle my ford f150 began to shudder dramatically, lost power immediately, causing me to pull to the side of the road. it was raining at the time. this could have definitely caused an accident. the service engine light came on and stayed on. i took it to the dealer and they stated it was a failure of the intercooler for turbo on the ecoboost engine. a replacement part has been ordered but ford states, that due to the massive amount of calls for this part, it would be about 3 months to replace the part. this is definitely an accident waiting to happen, as they told me this could occur again. i have found numerous reports of this happening on other eco boost engines. *tr

On a 500 mile trip from va to nyc during rainy weather, engine stalled upon acceleration on 6 occasions. reproducible after driving at constant speed for an hour, or so, and then accelerating to pass a vehicle or enter a freeway. absolutely scary and extremely dangerous. i had several such incidences from day 1 of ownership and i already filed a similar report in july 2012 (#10465748). never happens during dry weather. ford applied the deflector shield and reprogramming, which did not solve the problem at all, but noticeably reduced the engine power, leading to shudder in 6th gear when going uphill at 60 mph (apparently due to a lack of enough torque; shudder disappears when switching down to 5th gear). gas mileage is down to 15-16 mpg at constant speed of 65 mph on highway, far from the advertised numbers. the check engine light came on during yesterdays nightmare stalling events and the truck goes back into the shop shortly. $55,000 truck that cannot be driven in bad weather - and every ford dealer declines having "ever heard of the problem". seeing all the complaints in this database and on f150 forums, i think it is time for ford to acknowledge the problem publicly and come up wit a fix vial recall. *tr

Engine stalled during hard acceleration. it had been sitting idling to warm up on a cold morning. when pulling onto the highway and accelerating to move into traffic, the engine stuttered and stalled. had to pull over out of traffic. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f150. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate with the illumination of the check engine light. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the inner cooler for the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 36,800. *tr

It was a foggy, moist day and when i accelerated to get around a slow moving vehicle i was in the passing lane! my truck lost all engine power and had no throttle response for 15 seconds, no check engine light came on, my truck went into limpmode. thankfully no one was behind me and i was not injured or involved in a crash!!! *tr

Loss of power when accelerating from a stopped position, more frequently as time goes on, and when truck has been driven for long periods of time. when first bought vehicle, there was a shudder and a shake extremely noticeable at 45 mph. the truck was brought into the ford dealership where it was purchased and checked for a deflector plate. the deflector plate was installed, so a new intercooler was ordered and a long wait with this troublesome problem occurred. the new intercooler arrived and was put in, but the same problems persist. the shudder and shake is now more noticeable at 35mph but is still there and noticeable as ever. the ford dealership told me that ford has a new service bulletin out, but has not issued a fix. this is a serious issue, and i hope that with all the driving i do, i don't get a loss of power when i need it resulting in an accident and possible fatality. *tr

On monday december 11, my wife and i left on a trip to indiana with approximately 10,400 miles on the truck. after a stop, at the bowling green, ky., rest stop, i proceeded to return to traffic on interstate 65. after determining i could safely accelerate in front of two semi-trailer trucks, i entered the highway at approximately 50 mph and went to full throttle. instead of accelerating, the engine went into a total loss of power. amid the blowing of air horns and my wife's screams i was lucky enough to avoid a collision by yanking the truck onto the emergency lane. the engine did not stop running, but appeared (to me) to be totally flooded. the engine ran on ?? (number of) cylinders for approximately one eighth of a mile before returning to running on all cylinders. i do not think the service department believed me when they looked at the truck. i have been a mechanic and an engineer for a lot of years, i know what happened this time and it came very close to a serious accident and/ or injury to my wife and me. this was a very close accident avoidance and it practically destroyed our confidence in the truck. while still on our trip, we made the decision to forgo the hassle of trying to persuade the service dept. there was a problem, and get a different brand of new truck. i have taken the high financial loss of trading for another new truck. i am not totally satisfied with this vehicle. the ford has many enhancements and i probably should have tried harder to get the appropriate service action. but would it have been worth the risk of another engine incident, no i do not think so. this was the second and most serious incident and after ford service had pronounced there was no problem with my engine. i sold the truck with 11,399 miles on the speedometer. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle started to shake violently and engaged into safe limp mode. the contact mentioned that the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 3,000 and the current mileage as 13,000. *tr

While driving at highway speeds and attempting to pass a slower car, the truck lost 50% of its power. it began to miss fire, and act like it had bad gas or something. i also started to notice that if you turn a corner on wet pavement and you lose traction, the truck made the same gurgling sound with power loss. this has happened several times. i have also noticed that i get very bad gas mileage averaging 12 mpg on the highway. i took the truck in and they reprogrammed it. i think all this did was cut back the power to help prevent detonation or miss fires. after this the truck was a complete dog. bad mileage and no power. i recently sent the truck back and they replaced some parts with the intercooler. it isn't 100% fixed but it is better. mileage picked up to 15 mpg but nowhere near what they claim. power is better but still not good. very disappointed overall. *tr

My 2012 ford f150 with eco-boost engine stalls and shakes upon fast acceleration. this happens mostly on rainy damp days but has happened during night driving also. once this happens the trucks looses all power and i have had to pull off the highway, turn the engine off and restart. have brought the truck to the dealer on three occasions with no results of correction. i know this is a common problem with this engine and need help to get ford to correct problem or allow trade for trade on a new truck without the eco-boost engine. *tr

At passing speeds or during acceleration the vehicle will stall and check engine light will come on and start flashing. it only does this when accelerated and has almost caused accidents. after numerous occasions of this happening the light has continuously stayed on and now it won't go off.

When accelerating to pass another car, the vehicle suddenly looses power. after accelerating rapidly to get on the freeway and releasing the gas pedal, the car continues to accelerate. ford said there is a problem with their intercoolers and they have been on backorder for several months. this is a safety issue for me and my family and ford tells me to continue to drive my car while i wait more months until the parts are ready. *tr ## vin failed ##

Vehicle lost power while passing another vehicle. unable to complete passing maneuver. this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed. *tr

Ecoboost engine has a terrible miss at idle and blows black smoke at start up. fuel mileage is also bad due to rich fuel conditions. ford has replaced many parts including injectors and plugs that were carboned up. now ford refuses to do anything else until a new calibration program is released mid august 2013. the truck has spent a total of 6 weeks in the shop and is only 10 months old. bottom line...ford refuses to honor the warranty. they cant fix it and they wont buy it back. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled while the contact was hauling a trailer. in addition, the vehicle would not accelerate over 25 mph. the contact took the vehicle to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the dealer stated that they could not detect a defect in the vehicle. the contact sent the manufacturer a letter detailing the stalling issue. the failure mileage was 26,000. updated 8/27/13 *cn

Pulling on the highway and accelerating the truck seems to hesitate when you need the power. this particular day was humid but it happens sometimes in clear weather. *tr

2012 f150 ecoboost. was cruising on the highway at 60-65 closing in on a slower moving bus. pulled out to pass and gave it more throttle the vehicle did not accelerate even with throttle to the floor. had to hit the brakes and pull back behind the bus to avoid a collision. after recovering the motor seemed to recover and allowed for acceleration again. this was the second time this has happened to us. neither time did the computer register a fault code or check engine light. the first time we took it for the issue, ford service could not do anything as no code was found and unable to recreate in test drive. at that time tsb 12-6-4 was out pertaining to this issue. after the second time, again there was no code or recreation but a new tsb 12-10-19 superseded the previous tsb and allowed for repairs. this is a dangerous condition that ford is aware of and could possibly affect all 2011-2012 f150 ecoboost motors and some early 2013 models. the charge air cooler as originally designed is creating condensation that causes these power loss events. the corrective actions in tsb 12-10-19, if successful, should be applied to all f150 ecoboost vehicles built with the older intercooler design. *tr

While attempting to accelerate in interstate traffic, the engine bogged down to the point of having to pull over. the truck has been into the dealership on three separate occasions for this issue, and is currently in there, and has been for a week, with no end in sight!!!. the last time the hesitation happened very nearly resulted in a multiple car pile up behind me as i was attempting to merge onto an interstate ramp. i spoke to ford customer service 1-800-392-3673 reference number [xxx] and spoke with "[xxx]" who denies that there is a problem, even though every single representative at ford dealership and hq admit that there is a problem with the f150 ecoboost. they are refusing to consider this as a candidate for the virginia lemon law, even though it qualifies completely. the dealer has no idea how to correct this issue, and has admitted so. they continue to mislead me and prolong the inevitable. ford needs to step up to the plate and resolve this issue with their lifelong, and loyal customers. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I have experienced two separate occurrences where the truck would violently lose power during acceleration during rainstorms. the first time the check engine light flashed but went away. the dealer told me it was probably the traction control, since no check engine light was logged in the system. the second time was april 24th, 2013, and the truck had approximately 11,000 miles. i was traveling approximately 70mph and passing two 18 wheelers on the interstate during a heavy rainstorm and the truck began to misfire and stutter and had no power. i had to swerve between the semis and coast to a stop on the shoulder to narrowly avoid a potentially fatal crash due to the loss in power. the check engine light stayed on this time, so when i took it to the dealer i specifically asked about the turbo intercooler issues that the ecoboosts have been reported to have. after checking my truck out, they indicated that my problem was consistent with the interrcooler condensation issue, but that my truck was built with the newer updated intercooler and that there is currently no fix for the problem. now i am the disappointed owner of a new truck that i'm afraid to drive in the rain because my family might be killed or injured in it. the truck was purchased and always serviced at premier ford in columbus, ms. *tr

This truck continues to have hesitation and almost stalls during hard acceleration. i have returned it to the dealer several times and they are not allowed to do the repair, which is know by ford, unless there is a "code". they maintain this condition will not occur without the code being present which i am absolutely certain is not true. this is going to cause an accident before it is over. i called ford customer relations and they will not perform the repair without the "code" being present. this is dangerous, ford understands the problem and how to fix it but will not without the code being present, which is not always present when it occurs. go ford! *tr

During any hard acceleration such as merging into traffic, the truck stalls and goes into a mode of missing and engine stall. this has happened since i have owned the truck and only happens during a hard acceleration. i have had a catalytic converter replaced and the tech at the dealer told me it was know defect with the design of some kind of moisture pump. he said that ford would only fix it when you got to the fourth converter replacement. this is a hazard during merging into traffic. *tr

I have all documentation of my ecoboost f-150 misfiring during acceleration, including a video. i also have the ford reps name and dates of conversation with ford and my dealership where the ford rep "does not feel this issue presents a significant safety risk..." even though my truck failed to accelerate in the rain entering a highway in front of an eighteen wheeler, causing me to have to make an emergency move to the shoulder to avoid a wreck. this is one of three incidents. *tr

Was driving at 60mph, accelerated a little and vehicle shuddered/hesitated and didn't accelerate, and check engine light flashed, then became solid. took to ford dealership was told a calibration update fixed the problem. same problem occurred 3 days later. took it back to dealership, it has been there for 3 days and they state "are waiting for ford to advise them on what to do next." this is a 2012 ford f150 ecoboost lariat 4x4 supercrew with only 5,000 miles on it and has a sticker of nearly $50,000. i would expect no problems or at least a timely solution. either way, merging onto the interstate or needing to accelerate and the truck failing to do so is a safety issue. *tr

I was driving to work entering the freeway doing 55 i tried to accelerate the vehicle past a slower moving car and the vehicle began to shake violently and the truck lost power. had i been in heavy traffic this would have certainly caused a serious collision as i was unable to control the vehicle and had to slow down to 30 mph on the freeway before i could slowly accelerate back up to speed. this has occurred multiple times since october especially after rain or even in the mornings when it has been a heavy frost overnight. also my m.p.g is down to 11 to 13 m.p.g this is horrible especially this day and age in vehicle technology. i have brought my truck to the local dealer and of course they stated they were unaware of a problem. i had to show them multiple complaints from this website and off the ford 150 forum. it has been 6 weeks and the part still is not in for my vehicle. *tr

on my way home last october after picking up my new f-150 at the dealership i was attempting to pass a car on the interstate. it was on a hill and when i pushed on the gas to try and pass the car the truck shuttered and slowed down losing power and speed. the best way to describe it was that it "bogged" down. there was no engine light. however, i knew something was wrong, but i figured i would have it checked out when i came in to get the running boards installed. a couple of days later, however, an incident occurred that was a bit more dangerous. i was attempting to pass a slower car on a two lane highway (no hill) when the same thing happened when i pushed down on the gas to speed up to pass--the truck simply bogged down--losing power and speed. the engine light came on. i took it to the dealership and they have said that there has been reported similar problems with the engine and ford was working on a fix. but so far there has been nothing from the company. i have avoided the problem by not accelerating the engine rapidly but this is not a permanent fix. there seems to be an issue with the ecoboost engine especially in rainy conditions. Problem with engine losing power and detonation in cylinders during acceleration. first reported problem of engine shutter within weeks of purchase. engine has never operated correctly. i have brought the truck to the dealer three times and they know that the cac is the problem but refuse to replace it. the last incident on sep. 20 2013 happened when entering high speed traffic and the truck completely lost power and my family and i were almost hit my oncoming traffic. i had to "limp" off to the side of the road as the truck would not operate. this eco-boost issue is going to get someone hurt or killed.

2012 ford f-150. consumer writes in regards to acceleration problems. *smd the consumer stated as he tried to merge into traffic on the interstate, he floored the accelerator pedal, but the engine shut down completely. he was able to get the truck off the main interstate and into the emergency lane. the engine light came on. he let the truck sit in the off position for approximately 10 minutes and then he re-started the truck. at that point, he was slowly able to accelerate while in the emergency lane, to a speed that allowed him to re-enter the interstate. all attempts to accelerate quickly failed and it would only accelerate gradually at slower then normal speeds. he continued his trip with the engine light on and at his first opportunity he took the vehicle to the dealer. the dealer returned the vehicle to the consumer saying they had fixed the problem. the truck performed well for the next year without any incidents, there were no occasions where quick acceleration was required. in october 2013, he made another trip, and the same incident happened. then engine shut down again in december 2013. the dealer stated they made a different repair and they returned the truck to the consumer. the engine shut down again in april 2014. the dealer kept the vehicle, for two weeks, stating they were unable to find a problem. *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f150. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph in rain weather, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the check engine warning light. the contact moved the vehicle to the shoulder because it had engaged into limp mode. the contact was able to regain speed once he drove away from the shoulder. the contact stated that the failure recurred whenever it rained. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they advised that there was water in the engine and the spark plugs had become damaged. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and stated that they were aware of the problem and that they were working on a remedy. the failure mileage was 768. the vin was unavailable.

Traveling west on i-20 in tx for several hours through rain/mist/foggy conditions. exited the highway for fuel. upon reentering the highway and attempting to accelerate to speed, truck began shaking violently and did not respond to inputs from the throttle. i was able to speed up to about 45mph before the engine problem developed. luckily i had a shoulder to pull over on as i had entered the interstate ahead of a tractor-trailer combo who was doing the speed limit and approaching my rear bumper very quickly. after the engine began misfiring at about 45 mph, i could not increase speed, i was only able to slow down and pull off onto the shoulder. during the incident, the check engine light illuminated, began flashing until the vehicle came to a stop on the shoulder, then remained illuminated until the truck was restarted 5 times on the shoulder. *tr

Loss of power while driving,... this has happened several times and the dealership (joe machens ford) denies any problem with truck. this has also happened to my son [xxx]2012 f-150 and he has been told there's nothing wrong also. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Losing power, vehicle shake , check engine light. je demeure au quebec, je parle francais. si vous avez d autre info a me demander, n hesiter pas. *tr

2012 ford f150 with ecoboost - driving back to ny from maine - hit rain in vermont - tried to pass a vehicle on highway - truck lost power - bogged down - stuttering along. had to quickly pull over to slow lane to avoid having accident with vehicles coming up from behind - very dangerous situation. my daughter has the same truck she had same problem in july. in researching online have found this is a common occurrence with the ecoboost. dealer was unaware that there have been any issues with this engine. my daughter found on ford forums and this site that ford issued the tsb 12-6-4 that is suppose to fix this problem. the dealer placed the shield on the intercooler and reset the computer - time will tell if this will work before someone gets killed. *tr
