I purchased a new 2012 ford f150 platinum 4x4 ecoboost truck in june 2012. around 2014, i experienced a complete loss of power and major shaking or shuddering when i went to pass a vehicle in the highway. i thought it was a misfire issue and called the ford dealer i purchased it from. they asked at the time if it was consistent and i said it was not. they advised that i should just keep an eye on this and that i had an extended warranty. i was told to bring it in if it continued. i have also done a good number of all maintenance related check ups and services with the ford dealership i bought the vehicle from. it happened a few more times over a 1 year period. i changed the spark plugs as i thought it was a misfire but it continues to happen. the last episode nearly resulted in a collision. i took my vehicle to a ford dealership near my home and they tested it. computer reading says it is a p04300 - bad inner cooler. fix is $1700 per dealer (new inner cooler, new catalytic converter, new boots, new plugs and adding a shield) but that since i am now at 88k, emission warranty ended at 80k and i have no financial support from ford. i advised i was never told about an emissions warranty and that this is not my driving or mileage issue and that ford acknowledges this is a design flaw in the charge air cooler and had a redesign. this is a major safety issue and if ford recognizes this as their design flaw and is now happening to my ford vehicle, i need them to help accept this as a warrantable item and accept the repair from the dealership. please assist. kindest regards.
During hard acceleration after normal driving vehicle sputters/misfires heavily, no recall or adjustment has been available from ford. extremely dangerous in traffic and is keeping me from pulling any type of payload because i am concerned this will occur. i now have 41,000 miles on vehicle and it still does it, forced to drive the truck only under soft acceleration. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times for the failure. the dealer performed diagnostic testing, which located several codes; however, the codes did not relate to the stalling failure. the dealer checked the engine oil for oil sludge, but the engine oil was normal and the computer was reprogrammed. the dealer advised that they were unable to repair the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 8,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. the contact stated that while making a turn, the vehicle stalled and smoke emitted from under the hood. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the motor failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 72,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle would vibrate and there was a sudden loss of power. the contact also mentioned that the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was able to restart. the failure occurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 20,000.
Pulled into parking lot and truck stalled. could not steer. could not accelerate. warning light popped up said low oil pressure. was not on a hill. ran vehicle health report through ford sync service and everything came back ok. will call dealership next. had my daughter with me and it scared me to death. *tr
This vehicle is equipped with the ecoboost 3.5l engine. while attempting to accelerate onto a highway, the vehicle sporadically and unpredictably loses power, seems to have trouble shifting gears and shudders severely. because this has occurred on several occasions while entering a highway, it poses a definite safety risk of being struck in the rear of the vehicle. complete loss of acceleration or stalling while entering a highway could result in a crash that could result in serious injury or death. *tr
Driving down the interstate during wet conditions my 2012 ford f150 ecoboost started to stumble and loose power drastically while pulling a trailer. the truck would only do 30 mph as it shook and stumbled down the interstate. this power loss made it really dangerous to get off the road safely without other cars and trucks being affected. the only way to reset the truck was to shut the engine off and restart it. this has happened twice to me during wet rainy conditions. this issue really concerns me from the safety of my well being and other fellow drivers. ford needs to take action in fixing this problem with the f150 ecoboost trucks. *tr
I purchased this 2012 ford f-150 brand new!!! i am a die hard ford fan, and have never bought something new, so after many old preowned ford trucks, i bought a new f-150. under both the 36,000 miles and 3 year bumper to bumper warranty, it would rattle, shake, and tick a lot, a whole lot! it would also make a loud rattling noise during a cold start, or between 1800-2000 rpm. after doing my homework, this 3.5 liter engine (ecoboost) has timing chain issues and the timing chain has been known for pre-mature stretch. i found 4 other testimonials of the same exact issue with the timing chain. it gets better, the other people were also told the same thing after bringing it to their ford dealer for repair. they said "ford is aware of the issue, but it would not affect long term operation of the vehicle, and ford deems it acceptable; no repair necessary".........wow!!!!!! after spending almost 40k on my first new truck. i then went to call ford cooperate where i climbed up the ladder of 3 different managers, each of higher ranking, and the wrote the highest customer service official a letter, only to be told no, nothing could be done.
Was traveling up the roadway on 6/1/14 in our 2010 f-150 xlt and went to make a turn into an intersection. the vehicle stalled and was rendered useless in the middle of the intersection. the vehicle lost complete power, steering capability, and braking was diminished tremendously. we were stalled in an intersection with cross traffic approaching at 55mph. with little time due to oncoming vehicles, was able to immediately restart the engine and proceed, before oncoming vehicles approached us in the intersection. not very safe being that my entire family was in the truck. ford has issued a service bulletin about the issue with the vapor canister purge valve and its needing to be replaced. however, i believe this is a serious safety issue being that the vehicle stalls when reducing speed (such as turning into intersections with other oncoming traffic coming at you). there is no recall in lieu of this potentially dangerous situation they are causing. additionally, this problem with the canister causes a tremendous vacuum on the fuel tank, so much that it damages internal components and has raised questions about whether it is affecting the stability of the actual tank itself. when you go to fuel the vehicle, there is so much of a vacuum that you hear it release the pressure when inserting the nozzle. immediately after fueling, the vehicle will not start for several minutes. this issue needs to be corrected before someone is seriously injured or killed due to their vehicle sitting in the middle of a roadway and being hit by oncoming traffic. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving at 75 mph, the engine stalled. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the engine coil and the spark plugs needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 47,000.
I experienced the exact problem you've already closed a case for. see link below. i narrowly escaped a bad accident. i think you need to reopen the case and force ford to design a real fix (not a shield that disables the charge air cooler). you also need to force a recall before the accidents happen and lawsuits start. http://www.autoblog.com/2013/05/28/ford-f-150-ecoboost-in-nhtsa-probe-for-acceleration-issue/. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled and shook violently as the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that a part in the inner cooler needed to be altered. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 63,000.
My two children and i were driving up hwy 75 north from macon when we accelerated to the next lane. the speed limit is 70 so we were just going to pass in at a normal rate when the engine just quits and the whole car starts to shudder. now i have had this happen at 19,000 miles and took it in to the dealership. this was only about two months ago. went in today before i read all the complaints about this 3.5 eco boost engine and the similar problems i experienced. it was raining on when we had this happen but it occurred before with no rain. as the truck stopped and shuddered we were finally able to get to side of the road and did not get hit by oncoming traffic. there are six lanes of traffic in this area. surprised today when i went to the dealership and told them what was happening and they didn't even know of the problems or have ever heard of it. ????? so based on what i have read i called back only to find out they have had issues. *tr
My 2012 truck has the 3.5l eco-boost engine and it has shut itself down (gone into limp mode) at least 12 times. this morning (4-17-14) it just happened three times within a 45 min window. the temp outside was 50 degrees f and not raining. normally this vehicle goes into limp mode during a turn or after a stop, but it has also happened at normal driving speeds (45-50mph). this is a new vehicle and i am no longer comfortable driving this vehicle due to safety concerns. this issue has almost create three separate accidents.
The engine started misfiring and power loss. *tr
Driving at 5 mph raining out and engine shut off for about 10 sec. now engine hesitation when passing or just taking off. *tr
Engine shudder/vibration after accelerating. loss of lights, dash instruments, radio out. vehicle check engine light came on. this has happened three times before. taken to dealer twice for repair. *tr
Multiple occasions go to step on the gas and the truck just doesn't accelerate, feels like a misfire or almost about to stall, this usually happens when at a complete stop at a light and light turns green, has also happened when rolling in traffic or trying to get onto highway at the on ramp. another time driving on highway, stepped on gas and truck lurched forward as if someone hit me from behind and rpm kept accelerating even though i was not stepping on the gas. have brought this to dealer and they claim they can't find anything wrong. i believe these are particularly dangerous because i'm expecting the truck to move so i can go along with flow of traffic and it just hangs on me putting me in a bad situation or it launches forward making me momentarily jerk the wheel and lose control. possible known issue? (http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2013/05/28/ford-f150-ecoboost-government-probe/2367197/) thanks *tr
While attempting to merge onto the highway the engine shuddered and the cel came on which put my truck into limp mode. since, under any load the vehicle shudders and goes into limp mode when there is any load put on the engine. *tr
24,991mi: misfire when accelerating while driving. no check engine light. dealer reported no problem found, no codes & made no repairs. 29,440mi: misfire when accelerating & going up & down hills specifically when in 4,5, 6 gear during both flat & inclined highway driving. this was while pulling an 8000lb trailer. no check engine light. dealer found misfire in #1 & 4 and replaced coils & plugs in #1 & #4 only. test drive still showed misfire, then replaced turbo boost pressure sensor. i was told that moisture had damaged the plugs & sensor. 35,214mi: misfire when taking off from a stop, during normal acceleration and going up hills.no check engine light. dealer replaced the drivers side exhaust manifold because it was warped. 37,164mi: misfire when taking off from a stop, during normal acceleration & going up hills. i saw this in acceleration conditions from 10-60mph without towing a trailer. no check engine light. dealer reported no problem found, no codes & made no repairs. 38,577mi: repeated severe misfires while going up moderate inclines. check engine light came on (first time this ever happened) & i had a reduction in power, could not get out of 3rd gear & my speed dropped from 65mph to 50mph. after repair had moderate misfires during major inclines while towing a trailer but no check engine light. 39,000mi: while towing a trailer, experienced series of moderate to severe misfires in waves be ok for an hour & then go into a series of misfires for 3-10 minutes. some were on hills, some were on flat highway driving. i had 5 occurrences where the check engine light came on during this drive. 3 of these were during a hill climb where i had a power reduction & lost speed. vehicle stayed in 3rd gear. when i would get a series of severe misfires, misfires were so severe (without the check engine light on), that i could hear & feel the turbo kick off & on..

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving at various speeds and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle would hesitate and jerk. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician replaced the spark plugs, but the failures continued to occur. the contact indicated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer on multiple occasions for the failure. the contact was eventually informed that there was no repair for the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 58,000.
At highway speeds a horrible shudder occurs. i took the truck in for service at 78000 miles, my warranty runs out at 80000. i was told that this was "normal for 157 inch wheelbase trucks" is there any help available for this? thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) *js

I was driving my f150 2012 ecoboost on an onramp getting on to the freeway. it was raining, wet and about 50 degrees. i accelerated from about 35 to 65 mph to change lanes and get in line with traffic. the engine lost power and the truck started shaking. there was about a mile stretch where the vehicles power was completely unpredictable. when i let my foot off the gas the truck would stop shaking. this was very scary as cars were bearing down on me from behind and i had to get over to the far right lane incase i needed to come to a stop. the vehicle then seemed to function normally and i drove about 5 miles straight to the ford dealership. *tr
Jan 24 2014 . morning 6:00 am. my truck stalled on the elgin ohare expressway. i was cruising 65 mph. all of a sudden my trans or engine started to stall. i noticed the indicator on the dash go from 6 gear to 2nd. gear, my speedometer dropped to 40 then 20 mph. i took my foot off the gas, slowly cruised. then i put my foot back on the gas and drove to work at 45 mph. called the ford dealer made an appointment. drove it there after work . left it there for two days. they could not duplicate the incident. they reformatted my digital readout on the dashboard. deleted the numbers indicating the gear my transmission was in. therefore they did nothing but cover their[xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Since new my fuel mileage has been declining and i was experiencing a shudder, with no check engine light (cel). dealer performed a tsb and replaced the charged air cooler and reprogrammed the pcm. this left me with worse mileage and a noticeable loss of power. this progressed until 1-19-14 where i lost engine power and the engine began to shudder when trying to accelerate to pass a slower moving car. when i floored it, the trans shifted down to 2nd, and the engine shook and the truck slowed. once i left my foot off the gas, and coasted for 30 seconds, it returned to normal, unless i floored it again. no cel was observed until the next day on the way to the dealer. they replaced all 6 spark plugs due to fouling. i think there is water ingestion issue and that is what caused the plugs to foul. my concern is that if i had been in front a fast moving vehicle, i may not have been able to accelerate and gotten rear ended. *tr
Upon hitting the gas to cross traffic i had a sudden loss of power. i had to let off and hit the gas a couple of times in order to get the truck moving. this unfortunately is not the first time that this has happened and i have only had the vehicle a month since buying it as a certified vehicle. the dealership that i bought it from supposedly fixed the problem but apparently it is something that needs more than just a little adjustment and new parts. i have noticed through some research that i am not the first to have this issue. unfortunately some of the posts are people who have been trying to get them fixed but end up past the warranty mark before ford is able to make it right. *tr

Attempted to pass a slow moving vehicle by accelerating quickly. my vehicle initially accelerated and then violently shook and stopped accelerating while alongside the vehicle i was attempting to pass. i was stuck next to the vehicle i was attempting to pass and almost struck by oncoming traffic. engine light was flashing and then went off after about 2 miles. everyday since, the engine light is lit solid at all times. taking vehicle in for service tomorrow morning to see what they say. after reading complaints on-line related to the same issue, seems as though i will not be happy about what they are going to tell me. *tr

I have a 2012 ford f150 ecoboost, when accelerating in rainy conditions the vehicle loses power and begins to vibrate. the problem doesn't correct itself until the engine is shut off and restarted. this is approximately the 10th time this has occurred since the beginning of this year. i have brought the vehicle in for repairs on four separate occasions and had both tsb's performed the only fix my vehicle has not received is the new catalytic converter. the most recent time occurred since the newest tsb was performed. *tr
I was traveling on a 4-lane, 65mph highway when i floored the gas pedal. the truck failed to accelerate as it should have. instead, it acted as if it was coasting. there was no power for several seconds even when i moved the gas pedal to different positions. when the truck finally seemed to resume power, it started to shake violently. the shocked passenger and i looked at each other, then i checked to see if there were parts strewn on the road behind me. suddenly, it smoothed out and there were no more issues on that trip. i had been driving that truck for about 10 hours with various forms of precipitation at the time. this was december 21, 2013. the second incident was on december 28, 2013. weather conditions were sunny and dry. i had been driving about 50 minutes. i floored the gas pedal again to overtake a vehicle and was barely able to overtake due to no power. again, i worked the throttle to no avail. the truck finally recovered but started shaking violently again. as before, it smoothed out. i took my truck to a local ford dealership where they told me it was showing no codes and that their techs could not reproduce the symptoms i had mentioned. i checked on nhtsa website and found this issue is under investigation. i do not agree with the service bulletins. my theory is that there is a computer programming problem specific to this direct-injection, turbo gasoline engine. i plan on trading for something other than an ecoboost engine, as this problem is dangerous. *tr

Traveling on interstate highway from st louis to memphis in right hand lane. accelerated to pass slower traffic when truck begin to shake violently, lurching forward and back. all the while losing speed and made me fearful to attempt to try to pass or merge. this continued all the way back to memphis. i took the vehicle in for service and described the problem to the service tech. when i picked the truck up the service ticket said "could not duplicate the problem. since then the problem has gotten worse. i never know when it will occur. it could be rain or shine and there doesn't seem to be a pattern. it is now a weekly/daily occurrence. it has contributed to several near miss accidents. i am afraid to drive anywhere except side streets and i avoid the interstate hwy. the problem is so bad and the vehicle shakes so violently i was looking in the mirror to see what i had ran over. it is a serious safety issue that my ford dealer denies exists! *tr
I experienced a sudden loss of power in my 2012 ford f150 super crew with ecoboost engine.. this happened 3 times on 11-22-13 at interstate speeds, i was unable to pass slower vehicles that were running below the posted speed limit. each time i tried to accelerate past in the passing lane the vehicle shook violently and it was as though i had run out of fuel. as soon as i took my foot off the accelerator pedal the truck would run again. the 3rd time this happened a semi truck was barreling up behind me and there was a semi on the side of me, i noticed the semi beside me moving into my lane and tried to accelerate to get clear and the semi behind me almost ran me down as my vehicle lost power and i had to pull over. this time i had to shut off the engine and restart it for the vehicle to run right again. after the 3rd time my truck went from getting 18 mpg to 12.3 mpg and ran rough as though it was cutting out. the weather was rainy and the vehicles ahead of me were throwing up quite a bit of moisture. i took the truck to the ford dealer the next day 11-23-13 and they kept the truck for repairs. i am concerned as i and my wife could have very easily been killed of maimed yesterday because of this engine failure. if this happens to some family, they could have a fatal accident and i don't want that on my conscience. if this is a recurring problem maybe there should be a recall to fix these trucks. thank you for your consideration. *tr
Leaving so cal on i-15 in dry conditions cruise control set at 70. while climbing the cahon pass the truck felt like the engine died. the cruise control shut off and the vehicle shook and went into the limp home mode. it was early and traffic was light so i was able to pull to the side of the road. when i came to a stop the ck engine light, a wrench symbol along with the stability control symbol were all illuminated. i shut the truck off, got out and did a vehicle walk around nothing obvious on the outside so i popped the hood checked the fluids, belts etc. and everything looked fine. got back in the truck started it and all the lights had cleared. drove the remaining 300 miles home without any further problems. took it to my local ford dealer and had it checked, they couldn't find anything wrong friday 22 nov 2013 wife and i headed back to so cal it was raining for the first 200 miles then cleared up. i set the cruise at 75 and less than 50 miles later the truck did the same thing, same exact symptoms and dash symbols, i was in the right lane at the time so it wasn't a problem getting in the emergency lane. stopped the truck shut it down and ran the same checks that i'd done previously, same result symbols cleared and the truck ran fine. 100 miles later it did it again in victorville ca. this time i was in the center lane and almost got rear ended by another vehicle. worked my way to the right lane and luckily there was and exit. found a place to stop and shut the engine off, didn't bother to check anything just left it off for about a minute then started it and it ran fine although the engine light remained on. found a ford dealer and tried to get them to check it out for me, but they said they couldn't get to it for at least 3 hours. wife and i decided we would turn around and head for home, no further problems on the trip home. *tr

When accelerating from a stop in a right hand turn, the truck lost power and began to sputter and misfire. this is the 4th time this has happened to this f-150 off road 4x4 with ecoboost since i purchased it brand new. after the second time it happened, the check engine light came on so i took it to the dealer. the fix was a deflector plate installed for the twin turbo. they did not replaced the cac (charge air cooler). i was told this would most definitely fix the issue. clearly, this did not fix the issue since i experienced the same issue yesterday. this is a potentially dangerous situation as i was turning onto very busy m59 in howell. i turned in front of a semi. thank goodness i had enough room since i had no acceleration after the turn. had i not given myself enough room and chanced it, the semi may not have been able to slow down in time. this vehicle should be recalled and ford should discontinue making the ecoboost engine until they get it right. *tr
I live in lake geneva, wi. i was driving home from work in the rain and had a truck pull out in front of me when i was going 70 mph. i was unable to slow down, so i hit the gas pedal. the truck stalled completely and would not accelerate. it felt the truck missed the down shift and never went back into gear. it was raining at the time of the incident around 630 pm. was just scary as i had a semi behind me and another vehicle to my right that i was trying to avoid. the truck is a 2012 f150 lariat with the ecoboost engine. *tr

I was on a trip from oklahoma to florida. i stopped for gas in louisiana. when i got on to the on ramp to return to the interstate i floored the gas pedal to get in front of a semi truck, and it lost all power almost being hit by semi truck. after my trip i took my pickup truck to my ford dealer to have it checked out.they told me they can not find anything wrong with it. this is a very dangerous problem that needs to be fixed. me and my wife could have been killed if the semi truck did not have room to move over to miss us. *tr
I was on a highway going 65 mph, the conditions were drizzle/very humid, roughly 90 degrees outside. there was a slow car in front of me so i got in the on coming traffics lane to pass the car, but when i stomped on the gas pedal there was no response. my truck wouldn't accelerate so i pushed it a few more times and still nothing. there was a car coming and i almost got hit head on because of this incident and probably would've been badly injured had i not gotten back in my lane just before the car passed. the engine returned to normal after about 20 seconds and i was able to accelerate and finally get around the car. this is only 1 of the 5 times it has happened in this specific vehicle, its happened to me three times, and twice when i've loaned the truck to my father. it only happens in humid or rainy conditions and i'm guessing has something to do with the intercooler. but i'm not an auto guy so i wouldn't know. i called ford corporate and they said go to the dealer, the dealer didn't see any codes that were thrown during these incidents so they said they could not help me. it was [xxx], and ford needs to step up and help us who have defected ecoboost engines. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Was driving on a two lane highway at approx. 60mph and when i went to pass a truck, as i accelerated and got along side the truck, my engine lost power so i could not pass. i was left in a very vulnerable position alongside the truck and had to brake to decelerate and tuck back in behind the truck. the weather was clear, temperature about 60 degrees, and luckily no oncoming traffic but there was a vehicle behind me (and luckily that drive saw my brake lights, backed off and allowed me to tuck back in behind the truck). an accident could have resulted. after getting back behind the truck my vehicle still had power but had a shudder in the drivetrain while under load (like uphill, or driving down the highway at normal highway speeds, but not while coasting). i have not tried full throttle acceleration after this incident and have driven the vehicle sparingly. called the ford dealer service department and have an appointment to bring the vehicle in. when the engine stalled it was just like someone turned off the key, no power but at least partial power was regained after i let off the throttle. the engine is the 3.5 liter ecoboost. *tr
We were returning from arkansas in our f150 with the ecoboost engine in rain/heavy mist. we were on the interstate for a long period of time and when i went to pass a slower vehicle the truck just shook and wouldn't accelerate. it happened again 1.5 hours later in the same conditions, truck would not accept anything beyond 3/8 throttle. this happened before when we were in the rain (coming from arkansas) with the exact same conditions (year ago). i haven't taken the truck to the dealer as from reading several places there isn't a true fix at this point. some people are drilling holes in their intercoolers trying to drain the water that appears to be the issue. *tr
Was preparing to pass a slow moving vehicle my truck started to shudder and began to shut down..leaving me hung out in traffic.i backed off of the gas and it began to run correctly.this was a scary incident. truck has done this many times but i am very careful when i try to pass. ford says they have a fix but i will have to pay for it i did not design or sell this truck ford did they should correct. *tr
While accelerating to enter highway the vehicle lurched and lost power and the engine started shaking violently.i pulled off the road and shut the engine off. i started it again and it seemed to run fine for a time. later while under a load it would miss. the check engine light came on. this could have caused an accident in this heavy traffic. i took it to the dealer and they ordered parts, but didn't seem to confident of being able to fix the problem.. *tr
