I took delivery of this truck in march of 2012. the truck has had documented ongoing serious drivability, safety and reliability issues since october of 2013. the issue of immediate concern relates to ongoing misfire, back fire, and engine stall. this condition has occurred at low speed, highway speed, and while towing. the immediate loss of power and subsequent surging effects caused by this condition renders the truck hazardous to me, my family, and other motorists. this issue has been repeatedly reported to and serviced by ford. i have also personally filed complaints and concern with ford motor company. see ford customer service case number 8603638. the misfire, back fire, and engine stall is the current ongoing issue but you will also see in the service history this vehicle has also experienced traction control, drive shaft, steering system, and sensor/electrical component failures dating back to may of 2012. it is my understanding ford motor company is aware of this issue with the eco boost engine and drivetrain in my truck. this known issue was responded to by tech service bulletin 13-2-14. however, the mitigation measures of that bulletin and other subsequent service attempted to repair my truck have not been successful. further, the service bulletin does not take into account the significant safety issue of a truck traveling public roads and experiencing sudden loss of engine power. finally, i want to point out that the ignition/engine problems my vehicle experienced has caused premature failure to other components to my drive train. this includes fouled spark plugs, damaged coils, and likely accelerated end of life to other emission controls and mechanical components to the engine due to the misfire and water entering the combustion chamber.
Ecoboost, almost 5 serious accidents in a year. in jan, my wife, 3 children & i were on i-85 in heavy traffic when my truck stalled. we went from 65 mph to 20 & no power. an 18 wheeler was barreling down on us & had to make an aggressive move with his brakes locked to miss us & the other cars. i pulled the car through 4 lanes of 65 mph traffic, doing 15-20 mph & turned the truck off to get it running again. next, i was stopped at a light. when the light turned green my truck stalled out 3 times before the truck would finally go. over the next month my truck stalled at least 10 more times. in april, ford told me that the ecoboost had a problem & they performed tsb 13-8-1, reprogramed pcm & installed deflector. i haven't notice any power loss, but lost 2 mpg from my normal driving habits. in june, i merged into heavy traffic & my truck stalled. 65 mph to idle on a major highway. i don't know how i avoided an accident. i pulled off the highway & turned the truck off to get it going. my truck stalled 5 more times before taking it back to ford. in august, my truck stalled at an intersection 4 times. i completely blocked traffic for about 10 mins. i got on the hwy & went 8 miles. my truck stalled 14 times' very dangerous. every time i got the truck up to speed, it would stall & i would have to pull it over & turn the truck off and restart it. in aug i took my truck to ford & they replaced the throttle body. 2 months later it was stalling again. ford told me that it was misfiring & that they needed to change the plug boots, spark plugs & the fuel filter. i was told that it was the next step they were required to do. so now i'm paying ford to test different things & hope that something works. yesterday i pulled out onto a busy street & my truck stalled. i was almost t-boned. i am driving a time bomb. every time i drive this truck i am risking my life & everyone around me.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle hesitated and steam appeared on the front windshield. the contact parked the vehicle and discovered fluid leaking from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a vapor leak. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure recurred on several occasions while driving at various speeds. the engine coolant had to be replaced each time. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the radiator wide pipe was too narrow and needed to be upgraded to a wider pipe. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in the recall that was issued for other ford vehicles. the vin was invalid. the approximate failure mileage was 74,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. the contact stated that there was a burning odor under the hood of the vehicle. the contact looked and found that the cables connected to the battery were burning. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the battery caused excessive battery corrosion and ate through the positive battery cable. the vehicle's motor also failed. the motor, battery, and battery cables needed to be replaced. the manufacturer stated that the power train was covered under warranty; however, the other repairs were not. the approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
For two years the rear slider and defrost hasn't worked. when accelerating to pass the engine light comes on and the truck starts to chatter.
When driving in humid or when moisture is present such as rain or mist the engine shudder, shakes, misses and even shuts down when quickly accelerating. i have had the engine completely loose power when merging onto freeway in heavy traffic. i took it to the dealer once when it was under warranty. they said the catalytic converter needed replaced. of course i didn't drive in humid or raining environment conditions again until the warranty ran out. i have experienced the engine shut down at least 4 times since i bought the vehicle new. almost crashed twice when passing or merging when engine shut down. the date entered below was the last time the problem occurred. first time was march 2013 when vehicle had about 16,000 miles.
Recurring problem with the ford eco boost engine in my 2012 f150. when accelerating the engine loses power and begins to vibrate. unable to gain speed. i almost got rear ended because my truck would not accelerate and blend with traffic while merging off of an exit on the interstate. this has happened numerous times. the last time the engine warning light came on and remained on. when evaluated at the dealership i was told that several cylinders misfired and damaged the turbo. the repairs were close to $1000, two weeks later the exact same thing happened. repairs are pending now. i researched the eco boost engine on the internet after experiencing the problems. there were numerous people complaining about the same problem. 'someone is going to get killed because of this problem. i was lucky.
I was cruising down the highway when all of sudden the truck would not accelerate and it felt like the engine had shut off. the rpm was fine, however on the speedometer it kept going up and down (my mph was all over the place), and it felt like some one was pumping the brakes (lightly). i tried accelerating but all it did was make a screeching sound. i had to pull over to prevent cars from rear ending me and placed in park. i noticed that the engine was still on at this point and pulled back out on the highway with no further problems. a few days later, i took it to a dealership which they ran a diagnostics and found no issues. on my way home from the dealership, i experienced the same thing as i was exiting i35.
After traveling about 35 minutes, i parked my truck for about an hour. after returning to my vehicle and pulling away, my truck would barely accelerate. i gave it more gas and a large wrench warning light appeared on my dash and soon disappeared. once it was gone, my speedometer didn't function, the mileage was gone and the air bag disconnect warning light was illuminated. i decided to drive it to my dealership 10 miles away so they could attempt to register a code on their computer as i've had issues with this truck bucking/surging while traveling at highways speeds for 8 months. this is the first time a warning light had illuminated for a problem. in addition to the above issues, i noticed that the signals were not turn off automatically and had to be deactivated manually during turns. after the technician took technical information my vehicle was turned off and on and everything returned to normal. as i mentioned there have been multiple issues with my vehicle and they are getting worse and worse. i see no recalls from ford on this ecoboost engine.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving approximately 65 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle misfired and the rpms increased. the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the charge air cooler and the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was partially repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000.
Tsb 15-0131 timing chain stretches and makes a loud rattle upon starting and eventually leads to loss of power and engine damage. the known cause of this is all the phasers, the intake and exhaust phasers. this is my main concern. everyone i know who owns this vehicle has this problem. the other complaint is that i get 14 mpg.
The other day my truck would not start when leaving work at night. i had to get it towed into the ford dealership. the engine would crank over but not start. ford let me know it was a fuse and some components that had melted, that it would need a special part to be ordered in since ford has stated that when this happens it must be located to a different area of the vehicle for safety reasons (fire hazard). i am shocked that there is not a recall about this nor is it covered under my warranty (i have an extended bumper to bumper warranty).
I went to pass another vehicle and when i went to accelerate the truck started to miss and wouldn't accelerate. it started to lose speed and caused a back up of cars behind me. after a few minutes it cleared up and didn't do it again. i believe the build up of water in the intercooler to be the problem with this vehicle. it's a poor design by ford and they won't do anything about it.
Brakes applied to stop, pedal went to floor, vehicle increased, brakes couldn't work had to turn key of to stop engine.
Vehicle is a ford f150 2012 ecoboost v6 3.5l. vehicle was driven in high humidity and fog with cruise control on for a time period of around 4 hours without spooling the turbo chargers. upon trying to pass another vehicle the gas pedal was pressed to accelerate. vehicle began to shake violently, and began to lose power. vehicle was able to drive at current speed but would shake violently when gas was pressed to pick up speed. the check engine light did illuminate. this issue was consistent with the issue of condensation/water in the charge air cooler causing the cylinders to misfire and vehicle going into limp mode. there was no issue when atmospheric conditions were optimal. this happened after the ford dealership made the recommended ford bulletin repairs. this issue has the potential of causing a fatality.
July 6 lost power to truck engine at 60 mph when going to pass in hard acceleration situation. truck engine shuttered for over 3 mins until i could get it stabilized around 2000 rpms in a lower gear/speed. this was the first of two similar situation on the same day with the truck and throughout the remainder of the day any acceleration over 3500 rpms caused a loss of power. we limped the vehicle home that day. next day check engine light came on and off until we could get truck into our local ford dealer for service on 7-13. this issue has been researched via info on this site to no conclusion. i can say if you drove this vehicle and simulated this issue you would see the major issue this causes and potential risk of accident at highway speeds with acceleration. specifically heavy traffic situations. the issue caused spark plug damage, catalytic converter damage and the dealer performed the tsb (4th issued by ford) to attempt to fix the issue. this is a known issue, causes safety issues and should be recalled to permanently fix not try to patch with four different tsb. fix this correctly before accidents occur that cause deaths. updated 9/25/15 *ln updated 3/23/2016*js updated 11/27/2017*cn
Engine failed to accelerate when attempting to merge into traffic on interstate, almost causing an accident. engine started shaking and check engine light came on. it had been raining and was very wet. after pulling off turned of engine for approx 15 minutes. started driving again and did not experience any other problems.
Vehicle is a ford f150 2012 ecoboost v6 3.5l. vehicle was driven in rain with cruise control on for a time period of around 3 hours without spooling the turbo chargers. upon trying to pass another vehicle the gas pedal was pressed to accelerate. vehicle began to shake violently, and began to lose power. this action nearly caused a head on collision. vehicle was able to drive at current speed but would shake violently when gas was pressed to pick up speed. this happened twice in the same trip causing the check engine light to illuminate. this issue was consistent with the issue of condensation/water in the charge air cooler causing the cylinders to misfire and vehicle going into limp mode. there was no issue when atmospheric conditions were optimal. again, this issue nearly caused a head on collision as i tried to pass another vehicle in an area which allowed passing in my lane. ford re-flashed the the ecu and added a deflector shield to the top of the charge air cooler and it did not fix the problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle lost power during acceleration and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was invalid. the failure mileage was 52,350.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle lost power and the engine warning light illuminated. the contact coasted over to the side of the road and powered off the engine. the vehicle was restarted. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. in addition, each time the vehicle was restarted, the vehicle would function normally. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 43,415.
When attempting to accelerate from a complete stop the truck will only move forward when the pedal is fully depressed. when this is happening the truck barely moves then it will catch and lunge forward at break-neck speed. this same thing happens at approximately 30 mph, will be accelerating normally when all the sudden the rpm and speed gauges completely drop the engine losses all power and if the pedal is continued to be pressed the truck will lunge forward, again at break-neck speed. in a 10 mile trip it can happen 3 or 4 times. today we had a new experience where when decelerating to come to a complete stop the motor began revving to redline all while only the brake was depressed. on green light the acceleration again was limited to full petal and a limp till burst mode. these events all scare the family to the point of not riding in the vehicle.
2012 f150, 5.0 v8 3 years off lot when july 4th gets here in 2015. 33000 miles and 4 of the spark plugs are shot, ford tech said gaps are off. from factory. o2 sensor also shot. working on it now, better be covered under bumper to bumper, because $1100.00 dollars is a lot to put into practically a brand new truck.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while traveling 50 mph, the contact attempted to pass another vehicle. when the contact depressed the accelerator pedal, the engine misfired and the vehicle could not accelerate. the contact stated that the failure also occurred before the vehicle shut down. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was determined that it was a maintenance issue that was not covered under the power train warranty. the dealer stated that the plugs needed to be cleaned and replaced. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer while it was still under warranty, but the dealer only cleared the codes and did not repair the vehicle. while in reverse, the service advance track light illuminated on the instrument panel and the turn signals stopped working. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that there was no failure with the vehicle. a mechanic told the contact that the failure was caused by a faulty steering nut in the steering column. the vin was invalid. the failure mileage was 32,000.
While attempting to pass a slow moving vehicle on a two lane road, the engine on my truck started sputtering, then lost speed and power very rapidly. at that point the check engine light started blinking and the truck almost stalled. fortunately i was able to pull into a parking lot and avoid other drivers. had an oncoming car been too close, or had i not had a parking lot to pull into, there was a strong possibility i would have had an accident. i have had this happen to a lesser degree in the past, but not to the extent i experienced above, nor did the check engine light ever start blinking. at the time i passed this off as being bad gas, my tires slipping or some other issue and thought no more of it. at this point i don't want others to get put into the same situation, which could result in someone getting hurt. because reports of this happening to trucks of the same year, make, model and engine i felt compelled to file this complaint. *tr
March 1 at approx... 8am i was coming out of a 30mph zone on the turnpike. as i accelerated to highway speed the truck started shuttering bad and engine light came on.... and put the truck in a dead zone.... it was still running but power was not there!!! i put on my flashers and safely made it to the shoulder.. the semi directly behind me missed me by inches. *tr

When there was snow and ice on the highways i put my truck in 4 wheel drive and when turned back into 2 wheel drive i began to notice a grinding and vibration noise that occurred when turning. then couple weeks later the noise started when backing out causing truck to shake and lose power to barely back out. this noise continued and has gotten worse. was taken to dealership and looked over. updates were made as well as oil change but days later noise came back. since 2/12/15 my truck has been in the service department four times and has performed recommendations by ford but days later noise comes back. the last time my truck was in i was told by the owner and service manager my truck is not fixable as they were informed other 2012 f150's are having same issues and an investigation is being done. since this my truck is shaking more backing up, jerking the vehicle on the highway as if losing power than will gain power and jolt forward, i hear this grinding noise all the time when driving at different speeds from 30-60 mph, turns, and backing up. the other issue is when truck gets to 60 mph or higher it does not shift down unless i let up on pedal and then push it again. i am feeling unsafe in this vehicle as twice now i have heard a popping noise while driving with this noise. the dealership has told me there is nothing more they can do. the issue has been reported to ford and they have done nothing for me. i want to get rid of this truck as i do not feel safe driving it like this. *tr
I was pulled to the side of the highway (i-95) waiting out a heavy rainstorm. upon pulling back onto the highway, my truck would not accelerate, lost power, shook and almost stalled out..i was almost rear ended by a truck. this was the second time this happened since i bought the truck new. the first time was jan -14 under the same location and circumstances. *tr
After driving in raining conditions for more than four hours, i attempted to pass another vehicle. when i accelerated, my vehicle began to lose power and shake violently. because of this, i nearly cause a multiple car accident do to my inability to control my trucks rapidly reducing speed. the same issue or type of issue occurred in late august of 2013 while attempting to merge into traffic. upon acceleration attempt, the engine reduced power, failed to respond and the vehicle shook violently. a ford dealership completed tsb-13-8-1, however, it was reluctantly done as no code would verify a problem. the truck is currently at another dealership, who once i explained the problem i was having, told me that i needed to have tsb-13-8-1 performed. i mentioned it had been performed and was told that unless a code could verify a problem, nothing could be done. this is a well documented problem, with many occurrences. this vehicle is going to get someone killed if someone doesn't correct the issue. it is not something that can be "created" by a mechanic to, it only happens in real-life situations. is there something someone can do to make ford research, identify and correct this issue before even one death? *tr
3.5l ecoboost f150 began to shudder and fail to accelerate while trying to merge into interstate traffic. had to slow down to keep it from continuing to shudder. this has happen repeatedly on at least 4 different occasions! dealership says it show no codes for misfires??? *tr
This is the 2nd (and 3rd, 4th, 5th) instance of a problem i originally described in odi 10659481. again, after traveling on the interstate for a few hours in very light rain, the engine failed to accelerate normally while merging into traffic from an on-ramp. this created a very hazardous situation, with traffic bearing down on us from behind at approximately 75 mph and steady traffic also in the left lanes. unlike the earlier occurrence on oct 28, the truck did not shake violently and the check-engine light (cel) did not flash. however, the truck was noticeably vibrating and very slow to accelerate to highway speed. because ford had declined to make repairs after the first incident due to odb codes reportedly not being present, i had purchased my own odb-ii scan tool. indeed, no codes were logged for this incident either. on dec 28 i traveled 550 additional miles on interstate in steady rain. i tested the engine 3 separate times by attempting sustained hard acceleration. each time the truck shook and failed to accelerate normally, the cel finally illuminated steady and misfire codes were logged p0304, p0305 and p0306. in summary, i have experienced this f-150 ecoboost engine failure five times, but odb codes were not logged on the first two when attempting real-world critical maneuvers. the codes were only logged during intentional testing for longer periods of time. i am confirming that this is the safety defect as described in ford tsb 13-8-1 "3.5l gtdi - intermittent stumble/misfire on acceleration from highway cruise in humid or damp conditions". it is particularly concerning that evidence of this defect is not always logged by the vehicle computer and customers are therefore being denied the prescribed repairs. it is also concerning that fuel mileage has been seriously impaired (about 3 mpg highway) since the first occurrence. *tr
2012 f150 ecoboost engine.loss of power and truck shuddering when accelerating at highway speed from possible misfiring. service engine light came on also, but turned off soon after event. took to dealer to check, dealer said to change spark plugs and boots. dealer did not mention previous or current technical service bulletins for this. *tr
I was with my family on the way to church. i was making a right turn out of our neighborhood onto the highway when all of the sudden there was a complete loss in power and was unable to resume acceleration. the highway also has a moderate incline in slope which caused the vehicle to slow dramatically. we were almost rear-ended from the car heading in the same direction which was originally a substantial distance away. luckily the car that was approaching from behind was able to slow down fast enough considering we had a 1 year and 4 year old son in the back seat. i called the local dealership and the earliest appointment they could offer to check the problem was on wednesday 10/10/2014. this is over 3 days after the incident occurred. the truck only has 40,000 miles on it so i began researching this issue. i discovered that there are more than a substantial amount of complaints and it seems ford is aware of the issue and is even attempting to modify the air induction system and re flash the pcm. with issues like the millions of vehicles being recalled for airbags that have led to serious injury or death, far beyond the manufacture originally becoming aware of the issues. how long is the issue regarding the 2011-2013 ford f150 ecoboost going to remain shoved under the rug? how many lives have to be lost before ford takes accountability for putting the public at risk. in their report to this specific issue (on the nhtsa website), it is more than obvious they have identified a defect in the 2012 ford f150 and the ecoboost engines within the trucks. can you help me understand how and why they are not being held accountable for risking the lives of many people. also, why is the nhtsa allowing ford to shrug this off and close this investigation? there is a clear defect present that has the potential of leading to loss of life. is this not pure negligence? *tr
There was a misfire and no check engine light. this happened 5 times before the computer showed there was an issue. on the third time i had ford install the deflector to keep water away from the turbo chargers. the last time it happened the computer finally showed a check engine light. i took the vehicle to auto zone to have them diagnose it. the computer was showing misfires in 3 cylinders. when i got the vehicle to ford it was only showing one cylinder having had a misfire. based on this, and the fact that the computer didn't register the previous misfires. i feel there is a defect with the computer in my vehicle. ford refuses to address the issue. i know there was an investigation on this, but the misfires have happened when it was not raining or humid, in fact the first misfire happened on a dry day. also, i have had the repairs made based on moisture causing the issue and still have the same problem. please advise. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. the contact stated when driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently and started shaking before stalling. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 43,000. the vin was not available.
I had been on the highway for 6 hours with intermittent rain, about 3.5 hours since last stop, 1/2 tank of gas remaining. location was i-65 north near elizabethtown, ky, 11:15 pm, with mist, wet road and spray. weather records indicate 50 degrees and falling, light rain, 84% humidity. i had the f-150 in 4wd-auto mode due to the road conditions. for several miles another car had been continually staying in my blind spot in the lane immediately to the left, despite attempts to clear with gradual reductions/increases in my speed. my general cruising speed was about 70 mph. i was in the right lane approaching a very slow-moving tractor trailer, so i accelerated moderately-hard to move ahead of the car to my left and was changing into that lane when the f-150 started shaking violently and lost speed. my wife thought that we had collided with something in the road. i quickly veered back into the right lane and braked hard, narrowly avoiding an actual collision. i suspected we had some type of engine or transmission problem, but while coasting the vehicle seemed to be running smoothly. i switched from 4wd-auto to 2wd and tried to gently accelerate again, but the f-150 started shaking again and the check-engine light started flashing. i pulled off of the road, and by the time i came to a stop the light had stopped flashing. i checked all around and under the vehicle, under hood, gauges, etc. with no further sign of a problem. i stopped and started the engine, then drove away and the f-150 performed normally for remainder of trip to louisville, ky. the next day i took the f-150 to a local dealer, who advised that i had experienced the "classic scenario" for condensation in the charge-air cooler, causing engine misfires. the f-150 is getting very poor gas mileage ever since. home dealer has declined service because obd codes are no longer present. engine: 3.5l gtdi (ecoboost). *tr
Under non-tow situations truck will shudder/misfire during hard acceleration. acceleration does not have to be wot. weather conditions can be hot and sunny or cloudy, raining and humid. truck did not start doing this until 60,000 + miles. *tr
When trying to pass a slow moving vehicle ( going 45 in a 55) i tried to pass. when i moved into other lane and gassed truck i lost power and started jerking. i had to let up completely off the gas and fall back behind the car that i was passing. this was a very dangerous situation since there were other cars behind me that had also started to pass as well as oncoming cars up ahead (a safe distance before attempting to pass of course). this seems to be a major issue since many of the same stories came up when searching the internet about this. *tr
While getting on the highway and accelerating, my truck began to shake and lose power. i took it in to the shop afterwards and they had to replace all spark plugs and 1 ignition coil. after researching this, i found out this has been an issue on several 2011 - 2013 model eco boost. please force a recall, as i do not feel i need to pay for something ford is responsible for. *tr
For the fourth time, my 2012 ford f150 ecoboosted engine stalled or shuttered when hauling a load (trailer or heavy bed load) in a high humidity environment. i was pulling a u-haul trailer behind my truck and it was raining heavily. when i punched the accelerator to pass a slower vehicle, the engine stalled, sputtered, and nearly shut down. the "check engine" light came on for about a minute, then turned off once the engine had cleared what felt like condensation, and returned to normal operating mode. when i took the vehicle to the dealership to complain (for the 4th time), they told me that they were of aware of a design problem with the intercooler on 2011-2013 turbocharged vehicles, but since they could not verify the defect "code," ford would not reimburse them for the service fix. this is clearly a safety and environmental issue as the service bulletin that ford issued to correct the problem, requires replacement of the catalytic converter as well. frustrated! *tr
Using truck to pull approx. 5000 lb travel trailer for camping. we had been driving for about 45 mins since last stop, 15 min bathroom break. weather was drizzle rain that had been continuous for last 2 hours of trip time and there was standing water on roadway. i was in a 65 mph location, flat roadway, and came upon a small car doing less than 60 mph on the turnigan arm area of the seward highway (2 lane-opposing traffic). it was clear and i began to pass. as i cleared the vehicle i noticed a large class a rv had followed me to pass the car. i continued at 65-70 mph to finish passing and my truck started vibrating and losing power and speed, no lights or problems shown on dash. the rv that followed me was on my rear end and trying to fit back into the lane without running the small vehicle off the road as opposing traffic approached. i could do nothing but signal and pull off on to the shoulder of the highway. as i stopped and put truck into neutral and revved the engine it appeared fine. i waited for a clearing in traffic and pulled back in and accelerated with no problem. the problem corrected that quickly with out me shutting it off. the truck had no problems for the rest of a 250 mile trip. this incident could have ended up very bad and it shook my wife up emotionally. the problem occurred one more time on the return trip on 9/13/14. similar weather, but not quite as wet. this time when the problem happened i was in a passing lane and had a slight incline and a semi was dropping down in speed and i went to pass accelerating from 55 to about 65 mph, moving into the passing lane. as i accelerated the truck had the same thing happen. this time the situation was not as dire as i recognized it, signaled, moved back into the slow lane and then shoulder. other than upsetting other motorists as i slowed down no endangerment to life occurred. *tr
While driving my 2012 f150 ecoboost at 55mph i had to accelerate to merge into traffic. 75degrees outside with light rain. the motor stumbled and lost power. service engine soon light appeared. i let of the accelerator and truck regained power. to shop for diagnosis and computer showed 3 cylinder misfires. this happens constantly and ford refuses to come with a solution. is it going to take a fatality before someone care? *tr
While traveling at interstate speed of approx. 70 mph, i attempted to pass a slower vehicle going up a slight hill. there was a shudder and then the vehicle lost engine speed. i went from 70 mph to 55 mph without the ability to maintain any speed, i was not applying the brakes. i could not complete the pass and had to pull over to the side of the road. if i tried to maintain speed or accelerate the vehicle shook violently, waking up my family. the check engine light came on and just flashed. i pulled from the driving lane and restarted the vehicle. the light went off and i was able to continue the drive, had to be very mindful of my acceleration. it happened a second time the next morning, again passing; shudder and then an inability to maintain speed or increase it. i pulled over this time the light came on and stayed on. i will be taking it to a dealer this week. i was traveling for approx. two hours prior to the first event. it was raining during the first event, the second event it was partly cloudy. *tr
While driving on a 2 lane highway in northern wisconsin with my 11 year old son, i went to pass a slower moving vehicle in my 2012 f150 ecoboost and when i accelerated quickly the engine just lost all power and to avoid a head on collision i had to slam on my brakes and quickly return behind the slow moving car. quite frightened, i didn't accelerate the rest of the trip north. while returning labor day, day, and on a four lane expressway i again tested the acceleration to have it happen again, but this time the check engine light started to flash and then shortly after stayed on. being 400 miles away from home, i drove the rest of the way very carefully. after getting home and before calling the dealer service to schedule a service visit, i did some searching on the internet to find this to be a problem with f150 ecoboost engines. doing some more searching i found the following article "nhtsa closes ford-150 ecoboost acceleration probe" by [xxx] on april 14th 2014, detroit news. i was appalled that you would close an investigation when the reason to accelerate, could be to pass a slower moving vehicle, and to lose power during this move could be deadly! since i purchased this truck, i have made countless passes on slow moving vehicles on two lane highways and felt very safe to complete that legal move until saturday, when, if i didn't take a drastic measure to brake and turn back into my lane, more than likely i would not have had the opportunity today to write this letter to you and more important, my son may have not been here either. i question why you made the determination to first, close the probe, and second, not demand that ford take the necessary steps to correct the problem, that is clearly a safety issue. i would appreciate a response and hope not to have to take further action for you to resolve this oversight. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
While traveling at 55mph, up a slight incline on the highway, i pulled out to pass another vehicle. as i pressed on the accelerator i had no engine power and the f150, lariat, eco boost began to slow. the check engine light came on and flashed. i let off of the accelerator and then pressed it down again. this time i had power. i pulled back into the lane and everything appeared to be in working order. *tr
while passing, my vehicle loses power and starts to sputter. this has happen on numerous occasions, and on the latest occasion the service engine light has come on. i have the 3.6 l ecoboost engine in the vehicle. i have turned the vehicle into the dealership for repairs, but was told they had to order a cooler to install on the turbo charger. bottom line no parts are broke, but it now requires additional parts. i do not see any recalls for this issue. *tr
On this date (8-2-14) at approx 0400 hrs(4am) while driving in wet rainy conditions and air temp approx 75 i had been driving for a few hours and made a stop. upon getting back into truck and attempting to merge back onto the highway my truck equipped with 3.5 ecoboost lost all power and failed to accelerate. during this time the truck began to shake while losing acceleration. this occurred approximately 4 times in a two week period and when i took the truck to the ford dealer they said no record in the computer so they could not do any repairs. this happened one year earlier (previous august) when on vacation and ford found it was the charge air cooler (intercooler) and bolted on an air deflector which obviously did not work. ford sold me this vehicle knowing there was issues with this system and failed (did not) tell me about it until the issue occurred and at that point i learned about it on the internet prior to ford employees telling me. this problem will cause an accident at some point. the very first time it happened to me august 2013 i was merging while pulling a small cargo trailer and upon the vehicle loosing all power a semi almost rear ended me which would have caused a major accident. power seems to come back after about limping truck for approximately 1/8 th of a mile. ford knowingly sold a truck with faulty equipment that will cause injuries and/or fatalities and does not appear as though they care to fix the problem. *tr
