Problems with 2010 Ford F-150 STRUCTURE

Turned on the rear window defrost and a few minutes later the right-rear window (of the three piece power sliding rear window) exploded. *tr

Following torrential rains discovered the roof leaking water into passenger interior at top of cab above headliner rear passenger seats. seats and part of headliner saturated. as yet unknown damage behind cosmetic panels and floor board. *tr

Water leaks through the third brake light lens during hard rain or auto car wash. enough water comes in to soak the back seat and the floor. then there is so much moisture inside the cab that the defroster can not clear the windows nor inside the windshield. this is definitely a safety problem as the driver's vision is very effected. called local ford dealership and they said there are not a problem - probably just a pinched gasket from changing a light bulb. but that is not the facts. please check out the many online complaints about this same issue. *tr

On a 40 degree morning, i turned the rear defroster on to clear windows and mirrors. as i was driving my son to daycare i heard a large pop then smelled burning rubber. looked and seen the right rear glass shattered and was it shorted out on the heating element. took the truck to ford and since it is off warranty they told me there s nothing they can do besides charging me $1200 for replacement, very disappointed with ford. if i wanted electrical troubles i would have bought a 1990's dodge! thanks for nothing. *tr

I had turned on my rear window defroster and after about 5 minutes i heard a loud bang. the right side of the rear power sliding window had shattered. *tr

Turned on rear defroster of power sliding rear window, right side passenger section cracked into pieces. no there was no hair line crack no impact to this window. looked at the lower heat strip in the bottom left side of this panel and sure enough there are burn marks. now the back defroster does not work at all. did ford stand behind their product. absolutely not !! this is my 2nd ford truck and as soon as i get rid of this one we will being going gm. thank goodness this is shatter proof glass and was not blown out because my daughter was in her car seat right under this. *tr

I got in the truck this morning and left the house, turned on rear defroster, and about 3 minutes later i heard a loud "pop"! i stopped and looked around but didn't find any since it was still dark out but once the sun came out i saw my rear passenger window, right above my daughter's child seat was shattered. luckily she was not in there. i have spoke with dealership and they have denied any knowledge of this happening, but a simple search here and on the ford forums show plenty of consumers having this problem. this should be a recall! *tr

I purchased my ford f-150 new in august 2010. i noticed in september 2013, my fuel filler door was not closing, and after further inspection i noticed an inner mechanism, that allows the door to remain closed, was broken and no longer kept the door closed. this plastic door costs approximately $75.00 to replace, significantly more if the dealer installs it. the frustrating thing is my son-in-law, as well as my brother both own late model ford f-150's, and both have had the same problem. ford (through their dealerships) hasn't felt the need to make good on an obvious workmanship issue, so the consumer is left to replace this door every 3 years or so. i should also note that having the door completely secure and closed is important to keep water and other debris out of the fuel tank, as the fuel tank on the late model f-150's does not have a fuel cap. we haven't heard of any recalls, or plans for one, but hopefully you've heard enough complaints that something can be done. thank you. *tr

I had my truck parked outside during a heavy snowfall day at work. i went out and started it to let it warm up and turned on the rear defrost. when i got in to leave i noticed my passenger side rear window was shattered. i had no idea what had happened, not in an area where vandalism is possible. after reading the online posts about others with this problem i realized this is exactly what happened. *tr

Issues began on friday morning. had a warning on dash indicating left rear door ajar, when in fact the door was closed. took to dealer who said it was probably a bad sensor and for $400 they could fix it. faulty warning will not let auto locks engage or alarm to set as it is reading the door as open. huge safety concern if you are travelling with a child, the doors will not lock and you happen to get into an accident. possible ejection of passengers. then came out to the truck on friday afternoon and noticed the rear seats were wet. unable to find out why. further investigation today reveals that the headliner is damaged from water damage. reading several places online, it appears that the f-150 has a bad leaking problem from the 3rd brake light on the rear of the cab. this will now have to be fixed and replaced and the truck is hardly 3 years old. disappointed in the quality "ford built" products. *tr

Head liner wet, rear seats and rear carpet wet. took it to dealer and they did not even try to find problem since it was a water leaking problem it was not covered either by the original warranty or the extended warranty i had purchased. apparently it is a leak in the third brake light located at the top of the roof. with as many of the 2010 f150's experiencing this same problem, this is obviously a manufacturing defect in either design or installation at ford, and ford should be held accountable for repairing the problem. *tr ## vin failed ##

On or around dec 2012 i noticed a water stain in the rear drivers side of the head liner. i assumed i may have accidentally left the window partially down causing a water stain in the winter months. i recently lost my job so i'm not driving my truck very often on april 26th 2013 after many days of rain i noticed a large water stain all along the rear window of the truck,staining up the tan head liner pretty bad. my warranty just expired by 2000 miles so i had my husband take a look at the problem. as we took down the liner we noticed slightly rusted spots all along the trim and water dripping from the rear brake light that's outside the truck near the top of the cabin. my husband believes that the seal surrounding the brake light has a defect. i immediately called atchinson ford dealer in belleville mi and spoke to service manager he new immediately what i was referring too seems as though they make repairs to these new and used f-150 frequently. i asked the manager if their was a recall on the brake light and he laughed and said "no,but fords s definitely aware of this problem.i'm concerned that the brake light will become compromised with the wires as well as moldy smell this has caused.i contacted fords and have a case number opened up concerning this matter,it appears to be a defect in this brake light and or gasket surrounding the window.it will be very costly to me .can you please look into this matter?a $36 thousand dollar truck should not be having faulty gaskets/seals. i know longer under manufacturer warranty but i feel as though this is a manufacturer problem. fords would not help in any way so i'm addressing my concern in hopes you can assist me. *tr [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

When going through a car wash, the 3rd brake light leaks water into the back seat of the truck. *tr

There was a horrible storm last night. i got into my truck this morning and the entire back seat was soaked! i spoke with 2 other ford f150 truck owners and they have had the same exact issue. both of their issues were the result of the exterior light on the top back of the vehicle. i called ford in temple tx. they confirmed they have had this issue a couple of other times and it was in fact the exterior light leaking as it was not properly installed. i have to now pay for this manufacturer's defect. this should be reported as a recall as it has happened to several ford f150 truck owners. i am not happy with the experience of ford! *kb

After owning my truck for nearly 2 years i began to notice a musty smell. last weekend my kids were riding in the back seat and noticed water pooled on the center seatbelt frame. i immediately thought the sliding glass window was partially opened, but it wasn't. besides it was no where near where the water was pooling. then we noticed in both corners of the headliner dark water stains. just by looking at the cab of the truck it looks to me like it is the molding that extends about 18 inches up the cab of the truck. i'm thinking it wasn't properly sealed on the roof. i am sure it has been leaking since day one,but with the drought here in houston for the last year i am just now noticing since it rains at least twice a week. ford is saying it is out of warranty and i would have to pay to have it fixed. excuse me but why is this considered warranty work when it is clearly craftsmanship of the truck. first time ford owner but never again. i don't have enough time to explain all the transmission and brake issues. *tr

2010 ford f-150. consumer writes in regards to a complaint with vehicle dealership . *smd the consumer stated in january 2012, he started to hear an incessant high pitched squeaking noise coming from the rear driver's side of the vehicle. the dealer informed the consumer the squeaking noise was coming from the tailgate latch assembly on the driver's side. the dealer stated they lubricated both sides and was road tested and the noise was gone. the service rep, then gave the consumer a tube of silicone that was used primarily for brake components and informed the consumer, if the noise returned, lubricate the tailgate latch. for awhile, there was no noise coming from the vehicle. approximately two weeks later, the noise had returned. the consumer went to another dealer, to have the vehicle inspected. the dealer informed the consumer, that the previous dealer provided him with the wrong type of lubricant and the dealer reassured him the problem had been resolved. however, two months later, the noise had returned again. the consumer returned to the dealer again, where they chose to lubricate the tailgate latch assembly for the third time. the consumer stated he had other issues with the vehicle that were corrected, such as the right rear shock, the transmission slip yoke, a loose fuel door and a rattling noise in the driver's side door panel.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150 super crew cab. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 11v049000 (structure: body: door) and contacted the dealer to schedule an appointment for repairs. the dealer advised that the parts needed for repairs would not be available for at least one to two months. the contact had not experienced a failure.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. the contact stated that the driver and passenger side running boards were fractured. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to freedom ford (3941 admiral peary hwy, ebensburg, pa 1593) where it was diagnosed that the running boards were fractured, which could cause carbon monoxide to enter the cab. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer advised the contact to file a complaint with nhtsa. the failure mileage was 107,000. the vin was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. the contact stated that he was experiencing a recurring failure with the rear doors. the warning light indicating that the rear doors were ajar was continuously illuminating without the contact engaging the doors. the rear doors were off track and the dealer replaced the doors four times in an attempt to correct the failure. in addition, the power steering fluid line was corroded and needed to be replaced. the contact also stated that the battery failed and needed to be replaced as well. all of the failures occurred within the first 20,000 miles driven on the vehicle. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 1,500 and the current mileage was 20,000. *tr

At apx 10,00 miles on my 2010 f150 i started getting a clunk/bump in the driveline when stopping and starting. sometimes it was worse when turning. i am a 20 year veteran mechanic with prior ford dealer experience. i have not been able to get this issue resolved by the local servicing ford dealer vanbortel ford. it has been in many many times for the same complaint. in the life of this vehicle it has had an engine replaced at 20,00 the torque converter at 25,000 the driveshaft at apx 35,000 the rear springs at 37,000 and the issue still persists. it is in now on 12/26/2012 for a trans leak, poor engine/trans performance and reduced economy from reflashing the trans several times as well as the same clunk/bump when starting and stopping. my concern is that the unknown defect causing clunk/bump could cause a safety issue by locking up or failing at speed. *tr

2010 f150 twin cab has a plastic tray in the front seat middle bottom section that has very sharpy flash that caused my wife to cut/peel of her skin from her back ankle while wearing her sandals. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150 super crew. the contact stated that water was abnormally leaking into the vehicle and the brake light whenever it would rain or when the vehicle was taken through a car wash. the dealer replaced the third brake light yet the failure persisted. the dealer confirmed that the third brake light was still leaking and also discovered that the rear glass window and the sun roof were also leaking. in addition, the dealer stated that the body seam of the roof was not sealed. the dealer resealed the third brake light, adjusted the sun roof and resealed the rear glass. the dealer also sanded down and resealed the roof. the contact stated the vehicle was unsafe and no longer wanted possession of the vehicle. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 10,000.
