Growling noise in 4x2 when i put vehicle in 4x4 noise goes away. *tr
there is a rattle noise when driving 35-75 mph from the transmission when under load. -2010 f-150 4x4 supercrew. *js
After owning my truck for nearly 2 years i began to notice a musty smell. last weekend my kids were riding in the back seat and noticed water pooled on the center seatbelt frame. i immediately thought the sliding glass window was partially opened, but it wasn't. besides it was no where near where the water was pooling. then we noticed in both corners of the headliner dark water stains. just by looking at the cab of the truck it looks to me like it is the molding that extends about 18 inches up the cab of the truck. i'm thinking it wasn't properly sealed on the roof. i am sure it has been leaking since day one,but with the drought here in houston for the last year i am just now noticing since it rains at least twice a week. ford is saying it is out of warranty and i would have to pay to have it fixed. excuse me but why is this considered warranty work when it is clearly craftsmanship of the truck. first time ford owner but never again. i don't have enough time to explain all the transmission and brake issues. *tr
I have had the vehicle in the shop 4 times since new with various transmission problems, including harsh shifting, shudder, and now the drivetrain locking up or violently downshifting, etc. the transmission has been removed twice for evaluation and inspection. while driving to work on 2/2/12 the vehicle violently decelerated to a stop, rear wheels were locked up after slight depression on brake pedal preparing to make a turn. the speed was approximately 35 mph. the truck was stopped in road and would not move. turned vehicle off and restarted and was able to drive from incident. ford responds that they cannot duplicate the problem; therefore no corrective action is recommended. web message boards report a similar problems that have been identified as violent downshift from 6th gear to 1st gear. ford will not provide an assessment on vehicle safety, declining to comment either because the person speaking for them is not qualified, or that they cannot assess unless they can reproduce the problem. at this time, i will not put my family in this vehicle. *tr
2010 ford f-150. consumer writes in regards to transmission problems and gross neglect of customer service at dealerships. *smd the consumer stated the vehicle has been in the repair shop on four separate occasions, for transmission and four-wheel drive issues, which has yet to be remedied. the dealer acknowledged there was a problem, but they didn't know how to fix it. the consumer stated while driving between 25-30 mph in heavy traffic, the vehicle made a terrible sound and when he put the vehicle in 4-wheel drive it made no difference. the consumer was informed the vehicle needed a road force balance. the road force seemed to help slightly, but only for a brief time. when he returned to the dealer, he was then told the drive line needed to be aligned. after having that done, the vehicle continued to operate in the same manner.
2010 ford f-150. consumer writes in regards to a complaint with vehicle dealership . *smd the consumer stated in january 2012, he started to hear an incessant high pitched squeaking noise coming from the rear driver's side of the vehicle. the dealer informed the consumer the squeaking noise was coming from the tailgate latch assembly on the driver's side. the dealer stated they lubricated both sides and was road tested and the noise was gone. the service rep, then gave the consumer a tube of silicone that was used primarily for brake components and informed the consumer, if the noise returned, lubricate the tailgate latch. for awhile, there was no noise coming from the vehicle. approximately two weeks later, the noise had returned. the consumer went to another dealer, to have the vehicle inspected. the dealer informed the consumer, that the previous dealer provided him with the wrong type of lubricant and the dealer reassured him the problem had been resolved. however, two months later, the noise had returned again. the consumer returned to the dealer again, where they chose to lubricate the tailgate latch assembly for the third time. the consumer stated he had other issues with the vehicle that were corrected, such as the right rear shock, the transmission slip yoke, a loose fuel door and a rattling noise in the driver's side door panel.

My family and i were driving interstate 81 in virginia on 8/13/2011. we were driving in the staunton, va area at approximately 70 mph where the rear wheels on my 2010 f-150 immediately locked up. i had the vehicle towed to a local ford dealership, and with the help of ford techs, they feel the issue was the transmission immediately dropped from 6th gear down to 1st gear. fortunately the road was dry and i gained control and moved the vehicle safely off the road, however my concern is it doesn't sound like they are 100% sure that this was the cause, and even if it is, how do i know it won't happen again in the future...with a worse outcome. i feel this is a huge safety issue, and we were lucky we didn't get into a more serious accident. now i have a vehicle that i don't feel safe in, and ford seems to feel there isn't an issue, but i see numerous posts on the internet of similar situations. should ford be doing more to ensure their customers are safe in their vehicles, or should i just find another truck that is safer? *kb
In addition to the 2013 ford f150 transmission recall, i have a 2010 f150 that had the same transmission problem where the transmission shifts to first gear at speed. i was going 70 mph with my wife and daughter on a virginia interstate highway when mine dropped from 6th to 1st gear in august 2011. fortunately i was able to shift into neutral and safely get it off the road, but this transmission problem has been going on longer than the current recall reports. i feel this is a safety issue that ford should address, since my transmission still has a hard shift from time to time, so i don't feel the issue is resolved. they have replaced the megatronics unit (twice), and the torque converter, but it is still the same transmission and drive train which i still feel is not 100% fixed. i see now that the recall might be expanded to include 2011 and 2012 f150s, but i feel it should be expanded to include those 2010 models too, since i had the same issue with my 2010 f150.
Tl* the contact was 2010 ford f-150. the contact stated while driving on a incline in second and third gear the vehicle rolled backwards. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions who stated that it was normal operating conditions. the vehicle was taken to the a local mechanic who did not agree with the dealer statements and said there was something wrong with the transmission. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 30,000.
Purchased the truck used with 8,000 miles. while driving, the brakes seemed to start getting. real touchy and almost put you in the windshield. took the truck in for service and. was told that was normal on the newer models, after suggesting it felt like the trailer assist didn't feel like it was releasing. the service advisor even showed me a printed note on my bill that stated there was no service concern. also having transmission flutter when slowing for a stop or to make a turn. there has also been times when the transmission clunks then drops into a gear. also experiencing vibration when slowing down. the body also bounces bad enough where it will get to the point of being uncontrollable. i only have 26,000 mi on the truck and drive highway. turned into my driveway off the street and the body sounded like it was going to fall off the frame. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, both rear tires seized. as a result, the vehicle jerked and skidded on the road. the vehicle also stalled, but later restarted. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the diagnostic test indicated that the transmission placed the vehicle into two gears simutamelously. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 21,120 and the current mileage was 23,000. updated 9/13/11 *cn updated 09/28/11
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while driving approximately 10-15 mph, the vehicle downshifted from second to first gear on its own. the vehicle was taken to thayer ford (located at 18039 n dixie hwy, bowling green, oh 43402, (888) 440-5271) where it was diagnosed that the power train control module software needed to be updated. the software was updated, but the failure recurred on several occasions. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 4,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. the contact stated that while on a slight incline and attempting to accelerate forward in third gear, the vehicle would roll backward. the dealer was informed of this problem yet advised the contact the vehicle was operating as designed. there were no repairs. the current and failure mileage was 300.
Started vehicle in park, on flat ground inside of garage, emergency brake applied, exited vehicle, left drivers door open, walked to passenger side, opened the door, heard a pop sound, vehicle began going in reverse, drug door down garage wall, door caught, got folded back to front panel, hole the size of door clear through the garage wall, broke garage door framing, tried to jump into truck to stop it, when door flung back knocked me to the ground and truck ran over my foot, son heard noises ran outside and was able to run across the street and stop truck within a foot of hitting neighbors house... truck door destroyed, front quarter panel destroyed, garage wall, inside and out, garage door framing destroyed, and bruised swollen foot. *tr
I purchased this truck brand new in november 2010 with 5 miles on it. in march my transmission started shifting repeatedly when no need for it to shift was even present. it would drop from 6th to 4th on the highway with no touch of the gas pedal. also when taking off from a stand still if you slowly accelerate then get on the gas fully their is a huge delay in engine response as i was trying to pull out into traffic and floored the truck and almost was hit because the truck was unresponsive to my need for full throttle. i repeat the delay only occurs from a very slow accelerate then to a sudden full throttle from a stop. the truck is responsive from dead stop to full throttle. another is extremely hard shift from 1st to 2nd and when driving at slow speeds bad drop into 1st from 2nd. also have slight shaking on take off. took vehicle in they replaced some part on my vehicle and i have it back with the same problems, they even wrote on my receipt that they still felt problems after the fix! now they are claiming there is nothing wrong with the truck when i take it back in. truck has only 5,000 miles on it truly disappointed in the quality and safety of this vehicle.
I purchased this truck new december 2010. its first problem was that on three separate occasions it stalled and died approaching a red light. i took it in and the tech reprogrammed the engine. i didn't have a problem for a month until today. todays problem scared the crap put of me. i was cruising down the road at 70 mph when my truck shifted down from 6th gear to 1st. i fish tailed and almost lost it.i was going down a hill, it wasn't a very steep decline. my truck while cruising and going down hills usually shifts down one gear acting like an engine break to keep my speed from increasing. today it went right from 6 to 1. thank god no one was behind me or they would have plowed me. i got pulled over and started my engine, everything was fine. i drove for a little while longer and pulled over called roadside assist and had it towed to my local dealership. i purchased a ford because they are supposed to be safe and dependable. the truck has 9500 miles on it. *tr
While breaking to stop at an intersection the truck unintentionally accelerates and will not stop. the abs brake pulsations continued walking the f150 into the intersection as the engine rpms climbes. i put it in neutral, the engine revves very high, i released the brake and then slammed it back down. the rpms drop to normal and the truck stoppes. it has done this once every year since 2011. it shows no trouble codes and won't do it for the ford service technicians. *tr
The transmission slips in and out of gear "slamming" the vehicle and causing the vehicle to swerve out of control in certain situations. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while driving approximately 72 mph, the vehicle jerked and began to fishtail. the contact realized that the wheels were locked so he shifted into neutral and allowed the vehicle it to roll to a stop. the contact shut the vehicle off and when it was restarted, it would not shift into gear. after repeated restarts, the vehicle was able to be shifted and was taken to an authorized dealer. the contact was informed that the vehicle shifted from sixth gear to first gear which caused the wheels to lock. the transmission was repaired. the current and failure mileages were approximately 12,000. the vin was unavailable.
2010 ford f-150 6 speed auto transmission shifts hard and shudders when shifting between 1st and second and downshifting between 2nd and 1st. often times so hard it chips the tires. on wet roads this will cause you to lose control. transmission also shutter at 30 mph. ford claims this is normal operation of this transmission. there is no fix for the problem. transmission is in 09-11 f150 and expeditions. *tr
Sometimes around 45 to 50 mph when accelerating, the truck does a violent hard shift. it is random when it will happen and has been happening for over a year. i have taken the truck to two different dealerships several times and they keep telling me ford is aware of it but does not have a solution. i have contacted ford directly and they just tell me to take it back to the dealership. *tr
2010 f150 erratic and hard down shifting. in stop and go traffic vehicle often lurches forward. eventually will cause minor crashes unless one drives with extreme care. ford blogs are full of similar complaints, yet dealer says there are no problems. *tr
My 2010 ford f-150 transmission "slams" between gears. ford is aware of this problem but alleges that it cannot do anything until the software issue is repaired. the transmission slams between gears, at times the 4 wheel drive seems to engage when going around a corner. this issue concerns me as if the 4 wheel drive locks up i could either lose steering control or stop dead in the middle of the road. ford is not concerned but i am very concerned. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150 lariat. the contact stated that the clusters failed. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer but not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 3,000.
After passing a vehicle my truck did not slow down but sped up. my foot was off the pedal and i picked up speed from 45 to 70. rpm's were very high and the brakes would not stop it. i pushed the accelerators pedal several times verifying it was not stuck. i then shifted into neutral and came to a stop. rpm's went from 5k plus to 4k in neutral sitting still. the rpm's continued at 4k until i shut off the engine. *tr
Transmission or torque converter causes the truck to shakes and shudder. it also down shifts and is a kicking feeling. at times feeling like someone has rear ended ya. throws head back it's so violent. the shaking and shuddering typically starts at around 38-54 mph. then for no reason at different speeds up to 80 mph. anytime there is a uphill grade it constantly downshifts and shakes even more. the shudders are so violent the mirrors can't be used to see anything. i can feel it in my teeth. this happens on city streets and on the highway. have taken in several times for this problem since it was new. even when talking on bluetooth phone- others have said they could hear it over the phone. ford has refused and never fixed this problem and told me this is normal for the transmission to protect itself. what bs. i've never had a vehicle that did this on purpose. there are thousands of complaints about this from before 2010. why isn't my year model truck covered and those before mine?? now there's a recall for this very thing for 2011-2013 year models. my truck is dangerous and a pain in the butt to drive. ford needs to fix all of the vehicles produced with this problem not just 3 years. 🤬 i'm doing this on my phone. i have records and if needed you can come drive with me and see for yourself. sure hope me or one of my family members doesn't get hurt driving this truck because of this crap. sorry, really pissed that ford is going to continue to get away with screwing folks over. happens from 2010- to present. (2019)
At apx 10,00 miles on my 2010 f150 i started getting a clunk/bump in the driveline when stopping and starting. sometimes it was worse when turning. i am a 20 year veteran mechanic with prior ford dealer experience. i have not been able to get this issue resolved by the local servicing ford dealer vanbortel ford. it has been in many many times for the same complaint. in the life of this vehicle it has had an engine replaced at 20,00 the torque converter at 25,000 the driveshaft at apx 35,000 the rear springs at 37,000 and the issue still persists. it is in now on 12/26/2012 for a trans leak, poor engine/trans performance and reduced economy from reflashing the trans several times as well as the same clunk/bump when starting and stopping. my concern is that the unknown defect causing clunk/bump could cause a safety issue by locking up or failing at speed. *tr
2010 ford f150 was parked in a parking lot of movie theatre, based on the information from police and witness the unoccupied vehicle began to roll forward striking another parked vehicle. dealership states that there is no way vehicle should have moved since the keys can only be removed when the vehicle is placed in park and the keys were in the owners pocket in the movie theater. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph the vehicle began to jerk forward and vibrate. the failure recurred intermittently while driving at various speeds. the vehicle was taken to a dealer on two occasions where they were unable to diagnose the failure, but the computer system was updated. the failure continued. the vehicle was not taken back to be repaired again. the approximately failure mileage was 4,000. the vin was unavailable.
2010 ford f-150 supercrew develops a significant shutter/vibration in the transmission when the vehicle is at 1100 rpm and speed is 30 - 36 mph. ford dealership replaced the torque converter at 8000 miles, vehicle now has 16,000 miles and the same issue is occurring. dealer verified that torque converter is the issue. dealer contacted ford, and ford states," do not replace the torque converter and that at the current time they are aware of the problem and attempting to come up with an engineering solution." *tr
A) 03.15.2010. ford f150 platinum extended cab. steering is extremely stiff/spongy/hard to turn off-center. must constantly fight side winds and road crowns. as if only 10% power assisted. dangerous as required constant attention to steering. others who have driven it comment the same and will not drive truck again. dealer claims it's "normal" for all ford f150's with no correction. dangerous as when transferring to other vehicles with full power assist, one over-steers and quickness and is difficult to re-acquaint. b) drive line/transmission/etc. does not engage on inclines, slips & chatters into "full" engagement, shudders 1-3 times at stopping & starting. ford dealer cannot locate problem...no repair attempted. independent trans. repair firm says it's a drive line bind releasing...possibly a drive line miss-alignment at transmission out-put shaft spline, and or loose engine/transmission mounts. danger that transmission may disengage without warning at any time. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving 5 mph the vehicle jerked forward and began to vibrate. the failure recurred on an intermittent basis while driving at various speeds. the vehicle was taken to a dealer on two occasions where they were unable to diagnose the failure. the computer system within the vehicle was repaired, but the failure continued. the vehicle was not taken back to be repaired again. the approximately failure mileage was 4,000. the vin was unavailable.
Tl*the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while sitting on a hill, the vehicle rolled backwards. after rolling more than one foot down the hill, the engine stalled so the contact applied the brakes, shifted into park and restarted the vehicle. the problem had not occurred before. the vehicle was taken to the dealership but no repairs were performed. the current mileage was approximately 3,000. the failure mileage was approximately 1,580. updated 6/1/10 *cn no repairs were made to the vehicle. the dealer stated everything was normal. updated 06/17/10*jb
On 02/25/10 my p/u had 2214 miles, i complained of clunky shifting gear hunting and 2 second hesitation when push accelerator down for passing. ford ,diagnosis every thing normal. i am living with this nightmare. i have been professional driver since 1976. 02/26/11 back into ford with clunky tran. and 2 second hesitation when passing at 50 mph. found no problem. 02/02/11 back into ford same symptoms told them i want to ride with tech. did not allow ride with tech service writer and service mgr. said they experienced my problem. told me come back when trans. tech available. then wrote my invoice to read unable to duplicate? ford i believe has issued talking points to all locations to cover up the fact that there is problem! this is serious because many times in an emergency situation you accelerate instead of brake. so when you go to accelerate and have a 2 second delay in pedal push down to when the computer reads what to do and gives you passing gear you could be run over! please help my vehicle listed for 46,000 plus paid 40,000 for it. consumers in america should not get fleeced like this without consequences. thank you, how ironic i've always been a chevy guy until this nightmare! *tr
2010 ford f150 platinum. been in ford shop twice for transmission disengagement prior to accelerating and after stopping....also between shift-up points under acceleration...shop has reprogrammed trans both times, disengagement upon acceleration now okay, remains on shift-up points as if the trans freewheels for 2-3 seconds...rpm's rev & trans engages with a abrupt "bang"...am taking it back in for third time....causes rear wheels to loose traction on ice and feels like losing control....at 20k miles problems continue. *tr
I have a 5.4l engine with a six speed transmission in my 2010 ford f150. it lags in acceleration between 1st and 2nd gear shifts, has done this since the day i bought it new,it has presently 7,000kms on it . *tr
Problems incurred second day of driving...into ford dealer @ 1800 miles...now 30,000.severe transmission hits @ start & stop violent slamming between gears and when dowshifting complete slipage/disengagement when backing up slight grade. left front brake drags with wheel sliding on ice-snow, brake linings smoke and smell and rotor 386 degrees with others @ 124-160. in to 3-different ford dealerships a total of 6 times and with factory ford technician once and told twice by ford dealer shop managers that there is nothing they can...will do. "all" say they've re-programmed the transmission and cleared the learning curve. no codes stored or seen....ford has tried to tell me basically...i'm nuts and everything is fine...have four written statements of other drivers of my truck as to what they've incurred...makes no differenc. have filed with bbb and going to arbitration, which from what all the other ford f150 owners are saying...will be an exercise in futility...and time. have given ford diagrams showing transmission problems....have given ford written and verbal descriptiions of under what conditions it happens and to drive under same and expierence for themselves...they "all" refuse to enter my complete descriptions onto work order or drive it under conditions described. have no idea why 3-400,000 ford f150 owners do not file a class action...only way ford will respond.........will not...cannot drive on ice/snow for fear of losing control when both brake and transmission problems may occur. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed but failed to respond.in addition, there was an abnormal banging noise and the vehicle would shift into gear. the failure recurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 200.
