Problems with 2010 Ford F-150 POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2010 Ford F-150 starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 65 583 miles.

Components Affected by POWER TRAIN Issues

We have classified the 72 complaints from 2010 Ford F-150 about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 16 TRANSFER CASE (4-WHEEL DRIVE) 1

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2010 Ford F-150

While driving the vehicle the vehicle has very rough shifts, and not only that but while stopping or accelerating after a stop and the vehicle has been stationary for small time, the vehicle jerks with a rough shift. also while trying to drive at an accelerated speed on a highway such as 55-70 the vehicle beings to shake more so the transmission area as though the gears are not shifting properly, and as this occurs my check engine light comes on.

The normal camshaft phaser issues are occurring. loud knocking, vibrating while idling, and general rattling from the motor when the truck isn't above 1000 rpm's. while this may not directly cause accidents, in intense rattling and knocking can cause other issues to arise which in turn can cause major safety concerns for the nhtsa. if ford doesn't decide to take on this issue and repair it, then it can be expected that every 3 valve ford motor made since 2005 will eventually succumb to these major issues. as we all know ford has had issues designing motors in the past, primarily the 6.0, 6.4 and 5.4 motor that i currently own, but it is time for ford to step up and handle the mechanical problems that their designers negligence caused. it is not too much to ask that an auto manufacturer stands by their product and repairs or replaces the faulty part when the time comes. additionally in the part you wherein you asked for the date of the incident, i will put the most recent occurrence but please note that this issue is reoccurring and you should expect knocking and vibration every time you drive.

The two driveshafts that connect together with the center boot broke apart while driving. luckily when this happened i was only traveling 3 miles an hour. this is a major safety issue that should be addressed, either have a one piece drive shaft or the sleeve should be better secured. i feel that if this had happened while i was traveling on the expressway, my family and others could have been in serious danger

Takata inflators. i was driving back from charlotte when my transmission got stuck in first gear be. at 3000 to 4000 rpms and won't go down at 40 and 50 miles.i was in motion at the time it was around 7:30 to 8pm. and it still stuck in 1st gear. it start on a city street and i had to drive home on a hwy and it was still go rmps at 3000 to 4000 at any were from 40 to 50 on the high way. i don't want to push it with my transmission.

Takata recall: my 2010 ford raptor with the 6.2l motor has been having a wrench light come on and i have had two quotes stating the neutral position sensor or transmission range sensor is bad. i've noticed that many recalls have been made on the ford f-150 models starting in 2011-2014. with my vehicle being produced mid year of 2010. i feel my vehicle is part of that recall. but doesn't show in any systems. my vehicle will stay stuck in a certain gear or not start at all. i can be driving down the high way and the vehicle will shift down to first gear when the vehicle is still in drive while going 60mph. it makes the vehicle reach redline on rpms and hard to stop the vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while driving 70 mph, the transmission suddenly downshifted into first gear. the contact quickly shifted into neutral gear since the rear wheels locked up. the vehicle was then coasted to the side of the road. the contact attempted to shift into drive again and the vehicle started to move, but shifted back into neutral. the contact shifted into second gear and was able to slowly drive home. the check engine indicator illuminated. the dealer (inskeep ford, 2651 w main st, greenfield, in 46140, (317) 462-1470) stated that there was no recall and advised the contact to call the manufacturer. the manufacturer stated that there was no recall and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 193,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while reversing, the vehicle shook violently and the contact had to depress the accelerator pedal with force to get the vehicle to move. consumer stated shifting into second gear began to jerk the truck like. i was being hit from behind. the same jerking sensation was felt while the truck was in reverse. the accelerator needed to be press far down for the truck to move in reverse. the vehicle was taken to liberty ford of maple heights (5500 warrensville center rd, maple heights, oh 44137) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was contacted. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 78,189. *tt*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle downshifted. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and it returned to normal speed. the contact stated that the failure began approximately one year ago and had become worse. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 114,000.

My transmission downshifts at very wrong times causing major jerking and sudden deceleration. it doesn't happen all the time. it is random but it has done it atleast 3 times.

My 2010 4.6 2wd shuts down while driving at 40mph on the street. i've changed so many things and now just ordered thottle body yo see if it helps. no one can diagnose this problem because no check engine light. i lose power steering and all power to the vehicle. this needs to be recalled by ford because it is very dangerous and almost caused me to have accidents with my kids inside. Takata recall. when pulling out into traffic on a very busy highway as the on coming traffic speed limit is 50mph, i'm pulling out on the highway with a safe distance between cars on this busy road as i accelerated my 2010 f150 fx4 super crew cab "with my family in the truck i might add" the truck just down shifts and it slams me and my family forward "like i hit a tree going 30mph" the truck shuts off completely and a symbol of a wrench pops up on the dashboard. with no power steering, no power breaks, no way to safely move the truck off the road at this point due to the traffic i was trying to avoid was passing me going at least 50mph almost getting rear ended by several cars and semi trucks, i push the flashers on and pray that nothing bad happens and coast until the truck finally comes to a stop after about 30-45 seconds. i get out of the truck after the group of vehicles pass by and inspected to see if the engine or transmission was blown up or leaking fluid and nothing at this point so i'm stressed out because my family and i could have very well died and there is no proof of this when i restarted the truck no symbols was present when inspected by a mechanic. i keep telling the mechanic that it has no power any more, it sooooo sluggish i can't even drive the truck much anymore, only on short trips to the store. we had to cancel or vacation and cancel the purchase of a camper for our vacation. i'm sorry but if ford was a real symbol of safety and security of its owners this would have never happened in the first place. this needs to be fixed asap!!!

Vehicle suddenly downshifted to first gear at 65mph causing skid. then downshifted to neutral.

Sometimes while driving, usually in mountainous terrain or pulling a load, the vehicle will down shift multiple gears. instead of a progression of one gear at a time, it is a sudden shift from le. fourth to second or first. i don't know the exact reduction as my vehicle does not have a gear indicator. it occurs sporadically with no warning. this action has never caused a dangerous situation but is concerning. the engine rpm has jumped to the red line which i feel may cause engine and/or transmission problems.

The vehicle downshifted abruptly without warning or indication at 75mph on the highway locking the rear tires causing the vehicle to spin out of control almost rolling over and making contact with other vehicles traveling at high rates of speed. the vehicle was diagnostically checked and inspected at a ford service center. they indicated that there was no mechanical or electrical failure to repair. the truck currently operates in the same manner as it did prior to the transmission downshifting. in my opinion, the vehicle exhibits the same failure mode that ford fixed under recall 16s19. this design flaw is extremely life threatening and hazardous. i have parked my vehicle. i contacted ford 4 times and even though that 1 individual from ford did indicate that my vehicle was indeed affected by the design flaw associated with the 16s19 recall, it was not on the "list" of vehicles to be recalled so it will not be fixed due to a vin number selection methodology that he didn't disclose. i have no way to fix the vehicle. the reason is because new software must be flashed on the power train control module in order to remove the design flaw and i have no way to know if the new software on the pcm that was developed for f150s through years 2011 - 2013 is compatible with the 2010 f150s and ford will not allow you to talk to any technical reps to determine if that is possible. the dealership service technicians cannot determine system software compatibility either and are extremely risk adverse to doing anything that was not approved by ford considering the safety implications of this problem. this vehicle and others like it are just ticking time bombs on the highway. mine will be parked until something is done by nhtsa or ford.

While driving down the road engine shut off. when slowing down to make a turn, engine will shut off. and i rolled across intersection, lost brakes and steering. in motion most of the time. on city streets.

Cab leaks after rain can be a mold issue some time when turning going off curbs or hitting months you hear a banging noise the driveshaft it will pop when take off i had it grease by ford little bit better once in awhile still does. all this still go on

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while driving between 30 to 40 mph, the contact felt a vibration. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the dealer was not contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle started to vibrate. the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road, shut off, and restarted; however, the failure persisted. the vehicle was driven to the dealer (brandon ford, 9090 e adamo dr, tampa, fl 33619) where it was diagnosed that the torque converter was faulty. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 186,000.

Single owner 2010 ford f-150 fx4 with 58,000 miles at the time of the incident. i was driving down the freeway (i-10 in phx) at roughly 70 mph during rush hour when suddenly the truck lurched as if i had just driven through a deep puddle. a few seconds later as i was looking in my rear view mirror the rear wheels locked up and the truck began skidding uncontrollably; there were 3 to 4 distinct skids lasting approximately 1 to 2 seconds at a time as i recall. luckily for me the semi-driver behind me was paying proper attention to the road and noticed me skidding to a halt despite the absence of break lights. he swerved and narrowly missed rear-ending my vehicle at full highway speed. after the semi passed i began to limp over to the side of the freeway going about 25 mph at this point, and i recall a few more jerky upshifts and downshifts while pulling over. by the time my truck was on the side of the freeway the dashboard wrench indicator was on and pressing the gas peddle had no effect. the truck had disconnected the throttle sensor input from the fuel injectors. after weighing my options for about 10 minutes i decided to turn the truck off and back on. upon doing so the wrench indicator was gone, and the truck appeared to work normally. since then i have driven the truck (cautiously and on high alert) another 1,500 miles and everything has performed nominally. i have had no other significant incidents with the vehicle prior to this one, nor have i noticed anything out of the norm prior to this incident. at the time of the incident i had been driving at similar speeds for about 20 minutes. the road conditions were both dry and very smooth and the temperature outside was low 80s at the time. the dealership has had my vehicle for 2 days and after a full diagnosis they have no clear explanation or fix for this potentially fatal malfunction.

Driving on highway (clear roads)100 km/hr and all of a sudden a bang and lost power. almost killed. towed to dealer..($100).rear differential blew up, broke driveshaft and transfer case split in half. how is this not on the recall, as this is a serious safety issue and obviously a defect. paid $5751.73 to fix. female driver, only paved road driving, how does this happen??? *tr

Bulkhead switch leaking transmission fluid.

Transmission slips out of gear at times. occasionally it downshifts and the truck slows down fast, other times it feels like it just slips out of gear altogether into neutral, then the engine rpms go high and the truck slows down. both times, when the transmission goes back into gear, it creates a large thump sound and the truck jumps, occasionally spinning my tires. this happens both while driving on the road and while driving from a stop sign/light and has happened multiple times since i have owned the truck. at least 10 to 15 times per month.

Reoccurring issue with transmission fluid leakage. my 2010 ford f-150 xlt supercrew engine 4.6 l at 89k miles with all its maintenance done like clockwork and driven like a baby required its automatic transmission seals replaced (transmission fluid leakage around the transmission bulkhead connector sleeve) 01/02/17. the dealer said that the current repair is not covered under warranty as the truck is passed its 60k power train warranty that previous repair completed back on feb 2015 (completed under warranty as the truck had 57k miles at the time). even though they have to do the same thing as back in feb 2015 where they have to bring the transmission down and re-seal it in addition to the new repair of the transmission bulkhead connector sleeve. i can not understand why ford and its techs whom are aware of the tsb 14-0069 (attached) *a known issue prior to 2014* did not "replace repair" this part back on feb 2015 so that the customer would not find himself in this situation with a $721.04 repair bill. i'm highly disappointed and dissatisfied with the purchase of my truck i have never owned any vehicle that within 6 years or less the transmission and drive shaft had to be repaired so often (this f150 is not used commercially and its well cared for maintained). my family and i have owned ford's and honda's in the past and never has anyone in my family and i had to replace or repair so often a transmission. this is not the 1st issue i have had with the automatic transmission of my truck i had taken it in to doral lincoln while it was still under warranty as it was jerking on gear changes they lubricated the transmission and draft shaft additionally i had the drive shaft coupler/boot replaced at sawgrass ford as well it was out of warranty this repair cost me $185.90 on 09/17/2016.

When applying sync update caused several failure codes to transmission module and transmission servo. sync module no longer works after applying software update and must be replaced. all transmission and engine codes were cleared. i believe the sync module update caused failure codes and destroyed sync module. ford dealership cannot explain

Noticed a fluid leak when vehicle was parked in driveway. discovered it was red transmission fluid coming from the top of the transmission. the electrical plug to the transmission is wet. the truck is babied and very lightly used with only 19,311 miles on it.

Transmission won't down shift ,or downshifts when not suppose to, when starting out or slowing down there is severe shuttering from the drivetrain.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while driving 65 mph, the rear wheels locked and the transmission automatically shifted into first gear from the sixth gear. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed. the contact stated that the issue with the vehicle was identical to a 2011 ford f-150 recall pertaining to unexpected transmission downshift. the contact inquired if the recall could be applied to the 2010 ford f-150. the nhtsa campaign number was unknown. the failure mileage was 99,000.

2010 ford f150 with 83,000 miles traveling 70 mph with cruise control on. heard a loud thump then transmission locked up skidding 100 feet in uncontrolled fashion. placed transmision shifter to neutral immediately when rpms were racing. truck tried to go left but gained control with steering wheel. took truck by tow truck to transmission shop and they found transmission had shifted from 6th gear to 1st gear causing the problem. transmission was intact. called ford dealer i bought from they said they would research sounded like they were not interested. this is a very dangerous defect to say the least and i noted 3 other similar experiences under car complaints.com for this year yet no recall for this problem but has been issued for 2011 and 2012 models. nhtsa should take note and make mandatory recall.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while driving 15-20 mph around a corner or over a bump in the road, the contact heard an abnormal popping noise in the steering column. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (morlan shell ford inc, 1824 porter wagoner blvd, west plains, mo 65775, (417) 256-3193) where it was diagnosed that the springs, universal joint, and bushing needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. additionally, the vehicle was taken to wehr ford of mountain grove (11311 us-60 bus, mountain grove, mo 65711, (417) 926-3192) where it was diagnosed that the slip yoke needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 78,400.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while driving various speeds, an abnormal noise was heard coming from the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the spacer kit, hose assembly, additives, and rear oil needed to be serviced and replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was unknown.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle's rear axle seized and the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact also mentioned that the vehicle hesitated when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the spider gear was replaced; however, the failure recurred multiple times. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 70,821.

Fix my 2010 ford f-150 fx4 engine and tranny problems. i was always a chevy guy, bought this truck and it is a big pile of [xxx] !!!!! recall it, read the forums, all who own these are sick of the god[xxx] problems !!!!! never again. stand up to your product. do something about it. your engineers are pathetic. good by, from one pissed off owner information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The truck misses at an idle and we also had to have the drive shaft replaced.

I was traveling approximately 30 mph on a paved road when the vehicle experienced a hard jolt, the rear tires locked up and came to a sudden stop. at first i thought i had been hit from behind by another vehicle but there were no other vehicles behind me. as soon as the vehicle came to a stop i applied brakes and put the vehicle in park and turned off the engine. i then restarted the vehicle at which time i noticed a orange wrench warning light on the instrument panel. i put the vehicle in drive but it would not move. i put the vehicle back in park, turned the engine off and called a wrecker service to take the vehicle to my local ford dealership. my f 150 had approximately 53,000 miles on the odometer when this occurred. hadthis occurrd a few minutes later i would have been on a major interstate highway and there would have been potential for this causing a dangerous accident. i have not used this vehicle to pull trailers or carry any heavy loads since new. i have not experienced any transmission, brake or other power train issues since owning the vehicle new.

At highway cruising speed, with the cruise control on, the truck spontaneously locked up the wheels and went into an uncontrollable skid off the interstate highway into the ditch and up the embankment. the ford dealership which fixed it found a computer error code p0975, and therefore replaced ford part number 9l3z7a100c:control assembly-transmission. no braking system problems, and no rear end differential problems were found. the truck was drivable after the accident. if the truck had rolled or struck an obstacle, fatalities could have resulted.

The truck was parked facing down on a moderate hill. when the truck was started and the shift lever moved from park to drive, the transmission remained locked up (still in park) and the visual gear selector indicator did not illuminate showing any gear selected. after a few seconds, the transmission shifted into drive and the shift indicator illuminated in the gear selected. applying gas during the "pause shift" period resulted in a rapid and uncontrolled acceleration when the shift occurred and this resulted in a significant accident. after the accident, the truck was examined by a ford dealership technician and the transmission control modulator (tcm) was reprogrammed.

Vehicle vibrates and hesitates to accelerate to the point where the truck engine will shut off around 1500 rpm on both highway speed and normal street speed. i took it to a local ford dealership, and they said there's nothing wrong with it or maybe they just don't know where it's coming from since the engine light is not on.

Ford f150 4.6lt stx lost all power at 45mph. limped the truck home with the fear of getting run over. truck is less then 5yrs old with 63k miles on it. if my wife would have been driving i'm sure she would have been hit from behind as i had to take action to keep from being in an accident. dealership said the transmission failed. i had the vehicle to two different dealers for a stalling issue. to me it felt as if the torque converter was staying locked up stalling the engine. both dealers were unable to diagnose the problem. this problem has been going on since new in 2010. now that the transmission has failed 3k miles outside the warranty ford will not do a thing to help but offer a little money towards a 4600$ repair. this in my opinion is a safety issue. if i was not a technician for over 15yrs and a techline adviser for another car company for over 7 i might not have known what was going on. ford will not stand by their product and rectify this issue and is passing on this failure to me. this is something that needs to be addressed as my wife since it stalled on her will no longer drive the truck even if i get it repaired. lack of customer service and loyalty by ford motor company! *tr

I was traveling west on i10 in arizona when my truck decided to down shift/limp mode at 75 mph. the result was a nice long slide until i was able to shift the transmission into neutral. of course the cruise control still thought it was going to speed the truck up and continued accelerating until i turned it off. i was able to get to the emergency lane and shut the vehicle off. i called the dealership to report it and they asked me to start it again. it started fine and did not show any errors on the display. i was able to drive it home though at a reduced speed and not using the cruise control. i find that ford would supply a vehicle with a limp mode that would shift the vehicle into 2nd gear limp mode at any speed and not shut off the cruise at the same time. seems to me the vehicle should disengage the cruise and slow the vehicle when at speed and not the unexpected down shift that seems to result from any transmission issues. if i had been towing my car trailer or travel trailer this could have been catastrophic. be nice to find out what ford says when i finally get my truck back. *tr

Exhaust manifolds are rusting off very bad .big flakes .i don't even drive truck in winter .i called ford and gote no help.

My ford f150 xlt was parted in my drive way, last driven at 9.00am on 8/29/2014. the vehicle was engaged in park, steering wheel locked and key fully with drawn. at around 5.00pm vehicle took off itself with out driver went down the street and hit another parked vehicle causing big damages to that vehicle and as well to ford 150 that i own. i have several evidence of people around my street watching this happening. my purpose of this complain is: 1. to find out whether there is recall on this vehicle, and ford hasn't informed the customers 2. the dealership san leandro ford in ca 94577 didn't respond my compliant- my request was to find if there is recall on the vehicle. 3. my big concern is for public safety, whether this vehicle has factory and has tendency take off when fully parked and disengaged. i believe we were just lucky it didn't hit children playing on the street or didn't run in to some one's house. 4. i really beg your organization to quickly investigate, because this defect can cause serious accidents and deaths 5. we have several pictures and videos for evidence, taken by people in the neighborhood. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2010 ford f 150. the contact stated while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal noise coming from the engine as if the vehicle was accelerating rapidly. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

I parked the vehicle, removed the key from the ignition, and went into my home. i heard a loud noise coming from outside the house, and when i went out, the vehicle had rolled down the road approximately 75 yards and crashed into a tree. *tr

My 2010 ford f150 has approx. 30,4xx miles on it and has been maintained perfectly. in a brief summary, going in to work early (5am) potentially saved me from having a wreck to due a faulty throttle body. upon accelerating from a red light, my truck entered into a "limp home" mode (mechanic wrench icon appeared) and began to incorrectly regulate my rpms. this caused my vehicle to become nearly stranded as i was moving no faster than 10mph in a 50mph zone. i was luckily only 1/8th of a mile from work and was able to get off the street. upon leaving work, my truck was acting fine with no warning lights (not even the mechanic wrench). i then proceeded to drive it to an auto parts supplier to have a free diagnostic performed. no codes were saved or showed up. however, while driving back home, it again acted up and entered a limp mode. this time both "check engine" and "mechanic wrench" lights were on. i took my truck to the nearest dealer who then diagnose the problem as a faulty throttle body. i am quoted $881 to perform the replacement of a ~$150 part...since it is a 2010, it is out of the 3yr/36,000 bumper to bumper and ford doesn't consider the throttle body part of the drive train warranty (ford will cover the intake manifold though, a chunk of plastic that won't break)... ford has apparently had problems w/ their drive-by-wire throttle bodies, as seen through their "consumer satisfaction program 13n03" recall. this incident should definitely be investigated as i have taken proper care of my truck (that has 30,400 miles) and i am stranded in a road, often traveled by 18 wheelers, going 10mph. i am not confident in my ford truck. *tr

Traveling down the interstate when a loud bang came from the transmission area of the vehicle and the rear wheels of the vehicle locked up causing the vehicle rear end to start hopping and sliding left. i regained control and put the gear shifter in neutral which allowed me to steer past a vehicle in the right lane and get to the shoulder of the highway. i looked in the rear view mirror and an 18 wheeler was on his brakes and was apparently going to pass close or crash into my vehicle. at this time i was moving at approximately 45-50 mph and i decided to go through the ditch and came to a stop on the frontage road. the vehicle was still running but would not throttle up. i placed the vehicle in park and attempted to throttle up which also failed. i turned the ignition off for approximately 10 minutes and crawled under the vehicle to look for damage. amazingly no external damage was noted. at this time i restarted the vehicle and put the transmission in drive and everything worked as if nothing had ever happened. i drove the vehicle at a slow speed straight to the dealer and reported what had happened. the service manager recovered a code which had been stored when the incident happened. when the code was investigated the instructions directed the technicians to replace the megatronics valve body. before a replacement part could be ordered the service manager received a call from the manufacturers transmission factory and was directed not to order a replacement part and that the factory would send the replacement part and to send the defective part back to the factory as soon as it was removed from the vehicle. i have researched this problem and this is not an isolated case. i was nearly killed due to a faulty part in a transmission and can only wonder who may have lost their life in the same situation. the vehicle was repaired but i could not trust it. i have sold it. *tr

National highway traffic safety administration. after coming home from a week of business travel, my neighbor came over to inform me that my 2010 f150 fx4 with the 5.4 v8 and 6 speed transmission was leaking transmission fluid on the driveway. after checking under the truck i looked under the hood for the transmission oil dip stick so i could check the fluid level. to my surprise, there is no transmission oil dip stick. after looking thru the owner's manual, it states that the transmission is a sealed transmission and doesn't need any oil except if there is a problem. well obviously if there is a leak, there is a problem and there is no way to add fluid to prevent an failure issue. i then contact a dealer near my georgia home and took it in for service. they told me it was a transmission bulkhead connector seal leak and it would cost $600.00 to repair. this is outrageous. after looking thru the internet, i found the ford tsb 11-3-25. from my search, there are thousands of people reporting this issue. since the transmission could leak until it doesn't have enough fluid to make it work properly, thus causing drivability issues. i would think this should be considered a safety issue and be a recall, not just a tsb. therefore, i'm writing you this email to advise you of this issue incase you are not aware of it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. the contact stated that while putting the vehicle in reverse, the vehicle accelerated abnormally at an excessive speed. the contact then shifted into drive and the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably and crashed into two vehicles. two passengers in the vehicle sustained injuries to the neck, shoulder and back. a police report was filed. the vehicle was not diagnosed and repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 58,300.

i own a ford f150 lariat 4x4 with a 5.4 engine, 3.55 gears and 38,000 miles. i was traveling at 75 mph using cruise control and all of the sudden the transmission automatically downshifted, which caused the rear tires to lock up and cause the vehicle to skid. the engines rpm's increased to at least 5000 rpm, when i shifted the transmission to neutral and shut the engine off. we i pulled the vehicle to the side of the road, the engine went into a lockdown mode with the engine and wrench icons illuminating. i let the truck sit for approximately 15 minutes and called the dealer for a tow. they instructed me to drive the truck to the dealership if possible and diagnosed the problem was related to a faulty computer (mechatronic) that controls the transmission. they did not have the controller in stock and recommended that i have the unit replaced in my home town. the dealer in my hometown claims that the have never heard of a similar problem and i need to monitor the truck for recurrence. i searched the web and it sounds as if the problem is known on the 2010 model. your suggestions? *tr

Since purchase in 2010, the transmission continually searches for the right gear, never seems to find it, and will "bang" into whatever gear it chooses. galpin and simi valley ford have been unable to re-create condition and simply say it is due to the electronic transmission. approximately one year ago, simi valley ford stated the "spline shaft" was never lubricated and claimed to have fixed the problem by lubricating the area. the problem has returned, past the basic 3/36 warranty, and now have been told the issue is not a "powertrain" issue and therefore not under the 5/60 powertrain warranty. however, they offered to install a ford recommended clamp and more lubrication for a nominal charge. other than the powertrain issue, the vehicle has "stalled" several occasions. usually this occurs while coming to a stop. vehicle is then restarted and good for awhile. galpin ford has been unable to reproduce, therefore, no problem. *tr

While decelerating 2010 ford f150 stalled (4.6l v-8). vehicle restarted in neutral, then stalled each time vehicle was put in gear. increased rpms in neutral and put vehicle in drive and drove to safe area, vehicle stalled. cleaned mass air flow and made it home. took vehicle to local dealership where vehicle was purchased and was told that because the onboard computer is not displaying a code that the truck cannot be fixed. currently i refuse to drive a vehicle that is stalling unexpectedly and subsequently losing power steering and brake assist. this vehicle is a danger and liability to any driving inside it, or near it. *tr
