1. i am not alone in a complaint about the fuel canister being a problem on the f150- i have complained about this twice now- others in the forum are doing the same. the vapor canister in the engine compartment becomes faulty and the engines stall or runs rough- when it stalls, it is impossible to steer. i grew up without power steering- 97$ out of pocket- dealer couldn't figure it out- had another mechanic diagnose and repair. it's a simple fix- yet can be dangerous if someone with strong arm strength cannot turn the vehicle or use the breaks. this has to be looked at.! i should have been reimbursed! waiting for someone to get killed is inexcusable- happened with just 35k miles on truck. 2. seems ford has a mega defect with bad design on their f150 power rear windows with the heat grids going bad- this happened at maybe the same time, and unless i spend 1000 dollars, i have no rear-window defogging- this was nearly a 50k vehicle, and just started to fall apart after the warranty. this is a bad design- if ice and all in the south, many do not have the preparations for this (i grew up in the north). i still can't defrost my rear window), but have a scraper 3. high mount brake light- seems, ford refuses to fix a bad design for faulty high mount third brake light- cheap gasket will fade, and many of use (myself recently) have problems with water dripping inside the cab- 100 plus bucks for a new one? can't even buy the gasket?? and let's add to the fact the lights are so badly designed, they collect grime/crap and just look like yup. (biggest concern is ruining the interior with water- i had a lot of wet recently- f150 forum is plastered with these problems. the fuel canister making the vesicle stall is dangerous. and i feel ford should address this. (they don't seem to care about improving the other issues in 2018. shame- no quality!~

With the rear defrost on the back glass exploded while driving. *tr

On a 20 degree morning i turned on the rear defrost and in about five minutes time i hear a loud noise. upon looking around i found the back window had shattered on the passenger side. i was stationary at the time, thankfully, because the sound was a lot like a gun blast and if driving i could have swerved, it startled me so much. the window is shattered into thousands of pieces and visibility out of that window is severely hampered. this is an obvious design flaw and it effects the safety of the vehicle and a recall should be issued. *tr

The rear window driver side spider webbed. it was 55 degrees out and i opened my windows. this is the 2nd time this has happened to me. the other time was the passenger side rear window in 11/2013. i believe ford needs to take responsibility for this.it has to be associated with the defroster. *tr

The truck was parked in the driveway warming up with the rear window defrost on when a lot of smoke started coming out of the area around the rear passenger side head rest. i turned off the truck and then there was a loud bang and the passenger side rear window panel had shattered. *tr

Turned rear window defroster on, 5 minutes later heard a loud pop looked in rear view mirror and the passenger side rear window was shattered. when i first turned the defroster on i noticed that it didn't appear to be working. no visible lines across the center window. i turned it off and back on and it appeared to be working as i could see faint lines across the glass where the condensation was disappearing. *tr

Turned the rear defroster on this morning and heard a loud bang. looking back i realized that back window had spider cracks all over. i did research today and realized that this is a re-occurring problem. this is going to cost $800.00 on thursday morning to have the entire window replaced. *tr

When driving home i heard a loud popping sound, as if a rock had chipped my windshield. i pulled over and found no damage on the front windshield but noticed my rear window had shattered on the passenger side. nothing hit the window it just shattered. i took it in to a ford dealer the next day and they told me the repair would be roughly $700. they didn't know what caused it and could offer no explanation. later i looked at the forums and found this to be a common issue. if this is so common, why does ford not cover the costs of repair? i am happy my children were not in the back seat when this happened. *tr

I was stopped at a red light on the way to work this morning. it was 55 deg out, and i had the rear defroster on because there was condensation on the back window. i heard a loud pop like a rock had hit the car and looked back to see smoke and my passenger side rear window panel shattered. when i looked closer, the plastic trim on the corner of the window was melted, and i could see burn marks on the corner of the glass. it turns out it's a very common problem for the 2010 model year f-150. i searched "ford f-150 rear window defroster burning" in google, and the top result was this: http://www.glassbytes.com/2013/12/several-ford-f-150-owners-report-shattering-back-lites-to-nhtsa/ the description of what happened is nearly identical to mine, over and over again. there are 51 instances of this occurring referenced in the comments section of this article alone! photos of my incident are available if needed. *tr

I turned on the rear defroster to clear my back window of frost and drove to work. 5 min later, as i parked in the parking lot, i heard a loud noise. the back glass shattered on the inside. small pieces of glass are falling into the vehicle. ford will not cover the replacement. ford is not denying that it happens. they just are not admitting that there is a problem. the dealership actually told me that, ?when the temperature gets cold outside and then the defroster is turned on, it can cause damage to the glass.? wow! i thought that is what the defroster was for??!!??!!!! they had no response when i brought that to their attention. they told me to call ford customer service. i did, but they said since there is no recall at this time, they are not willing to help. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while attempting to start the vehicle, the rear defroster was activated and the rear window shattered. the passenger side fixed section shattered because of the failure of the defroster. the contact had also noticed that the defroster wires were burned and were heated, which caused the glass to shatter. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was not taken to a mechanic; however, the window was replaced multiple times. the manufacturer was notified of the failure multiple times. the approximate failure mileage was 34,000.

It was cool outside so there was frost on the rear window we turned on the rear defrost. after only a few minutes we heard a loud noise as if something hit the truck, my husband and i got out looked all around the truck when we noticed the window was shatter. i called ford and they said at this time there is no recall save my receipt if ever goes on recall i may get my money back. in the mean i have to pay for it i think this window problem need to be looked because there are a lot of ford owners saying the something! *tr

I remotely started my f150 to warm up the vehicle on a morning that the outside temperature was 37f. while inside the vehicle i heard a load bang that sounded like glass breaking. observed that rear passenger window shattered approx. three minutes after rear defroster switch was turned on . inspected glass both inside and out and observed that the glass was intact but the whole passenger side back glass what shattered as with safety glass would. i took the vehicle to the nearest dealer and they had seen the problem before but there advised it would not be under warranty or policy. dealer gave me local csr to contact to discuss the issue and ask for policy. glass estimate was around $621 for parts and 3 hrs of labor. declined repair until speaking with csr to ask for consideration under policy. i don't know what i would have done if the glass would have fallen out during driver. numerous incidences report of this exact mode of failure. severe safety issue that needs to be addressed with ford by nhtsa. *tr

the rear defrost has been working intermittently for the last couple of weeks. last week i was driving home and heard a loud explosion which sounded like a gun shot. i was so startled that i swerved into another lane (luckily there was no oncoming traffic). i pulled over and noticed the passenger side of the 3 panel rear window was spidered. we have a 2010 fx4 supercrew. *tr

Initiated rear window defrost; abnormally loud "pop" from exploding passenger side rear-window glass. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. upon starting the vehicle, the contact activated the rear window defroster and the rear passenger window shattered. the outside temperature was 31 degrees fahrenheit and there was ice on the window. approximately five minutes later, the contact heard a loud abnormal pop sound near the vehicle. the contact discovered the shattered window along with a substance that melted from the explosion. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 37,000.

Started vehicle and activated rear window defroster-outside temperature 31 degrees f. approximately five minutes later while stopped at idle, heard a loud pop and discovered passenger side of three part rear back window was shattered. there have been numerous documented cases of this same problem especially with 2010 models. poses a safety hazard to vehicle occupants. some contacts have reported smoke\over heating. *tr

Started the truck with auto start to let it warm up (out temp approx. 38* plus wind chill), turned on defroster in both front and rear. with in 60 seconds there was a loud bang like a gun shot and smoke coming from rear right passenger side back window. when i got out of truck to check it out there was a small flame at base of passenger side back glass and plastic was melting. the inside back seat was warm to touch, i was unable to get seat forward to see if there is any inside damage. there is melted plastic down outside cab of truck. i went on line to (http://www.carproblemzoo.com/ford/f-150/rear-window-defogger-problems.php) and found that this site had others that experienced this same thing. even after the truck was off, the back glass remained hot for about 15 minutes. the glass is shattered and is held in place by the after market window tinting. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while driving approximately 50 mph, the rear window shattered after the rear defroster was activated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 19,451.

Contacted ford first about rh rear defroster not working. luckily only had the burnt smell and not the explosion of glass. being this is the highest number of complaints on this site ford should really consider looking into this before possibly a child in a car seat gets a face full of glass. as usuall from ford i received the usual form letter back about not being under any recalls. vehicle only has 32,400 miles on it. would like to know the actual manufacture ford buys these from. even offered if they were to send me a rear unit i would replace it myself as being a auto tech all my life and send the old unit back for verification. *tr

Turned on rear defrost and drove for about 10 minutes. daughter reported hearing a "static" noise which was followed by smoke and a "pop" as the back passenger side rear glass cracked-(glass spiderweb) but still intact. *tr

Driving home with my family from in-laws house. upon starting the truck i turned on the rear defroster, about 5 min later i heard a loud bang, like something landed on the roof. later on realized it was the passenger side section of my rear window. it shattered, but remained fully in tact with no impact spot from inside or out. after googling this i see it is a common occurrence among these vehicles. *tr

With the temp outside being about 48 degrees i had my rear window defroster on and the heat on inside. while i was driving i heard a loud pop, like the truck was being shot at or a large bolder was thrown at vehicle. when i stop the truck to see what happened i noticed that the rear window on the right hand side was shattered. i inspected the vehicle closer when i got home and noticed that there was nothing in the bed of the truck, like a rock or some other object and there was no hole in window. *tr

While leaving house, i turned on the rear window defroster. about 5 blocks from home, i heard a loud pop, looked in my rear view mirror and saw that the passenger side of rear window completed shattered. *tr

Was driving approximately 30 mph turned on the rear defrost approximately 3-5minutes later rear passenger window shattered. nothing hit the window it appears to be related to the rear defroster. *js

Turned on the rear window defrost and a few minutes later the right-rear window (of the three piece power sliding rear window) exploded. *tr

I was driving home 3/29/2014. it was late afternoon, raining and about 45f. i had my rear defroster on for about 10 mins when the rear window exploded. it sounded like a gunshot so the first thing i did was test my brakes to make sure i could stop, then scanned the dash and no weird lights. it was when i looked in my rear view seconds later that i saw my passenger side rear window (sliding rear window with 3 sections) was shattered. *tr

For no apparent reason, the rear window has shattered. *tr

I allowed my car to warm up. it was approximately 28 degrees outside. i began to drive my car. i engaged the rear defroster. within 60 seconds i heard a loud bang, similar to a gun shot. along with a smell of smoke. then glass went flying towards the front of vehicle. after looking around i noticed the rear window was shattered. the rear window consists of three pieces of glass. only the passenger (far right side) was shattered. luckily, there was no people sitting in the back seat at the time. took it to the ford dealership, they said the ford company has not addressed the issue. i was told numerous f150's have had similar problems. ford refuses to cover repairs.

While driving into work at 0445 hrs on a smooth road with an outside air temp around 5 degree i heard a loud bang coming from the cab area of the truck. i had let the truck warm up before driving and turned the rear window defrost on approx. 2 miles before i heard the noise. in checking my vehicle, i noticed that passenger side rear window had busted. when i spoke with the ford dealership, they said they were aware of the problem but did not feel it was bad enough to have a recall. it sounds like it is going to cost approx. $800 if it is not covered by my warranty. *tr
