Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2007 Ford F-150

While driving on a new york interstate at approximately 60 mph in a snow storm, my truck started to miss. it then slowed down and shut off. i did not have enough time to make it to the side of the road. a truck stopped and i had him push my truck to the side of the road, causing me to have damage to my truck. found out that the fuel pump driver module failed. it is located above the spare tire and due to a design error, water and road salt get trapped between module and mounting brace. it erodes out from the bottom side and the mounting bracket. when replaced, was informed that it is a redesigned component, lifting it away from mounting bracket. if i had not had enough room between me and the tractor trailer traveling behind me, or if i had another vehicle traveling next to me, it could be a total different outcome. i know for a fact, that part component is extended in states where there is a high risk of salt corrosion, and believe that a safety issue like this should be one of them. sitting on a highway in a snow storm is always dangerous. *tr

3 out of 8 spark plugs have blown out of head ih motor. this seems to be a common problem after researching several other makes and models of all ford vehicles. i have searched for recall information from faulty design with no luck. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford f-150. while driving at various speeds, an unknown sound was heard from the engine and the check engine warning light illuminated. the failure occurred constantly. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the camshaft failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. sometime after the repairs, while driving at various speeds, the vehicle started to vibrate severely. the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 115,000.

Driving on a posted 40 mph county road approaching a stop sign. the vehicle made a loud noise from the engine compartment and lost 80% power. took it to a local mechanic and they explained that the spark plug(s) were bad and the tune up would be $500-$800 depending on "if" one or all of them broke during removal. one had already blown out during aforementioned incident. i understand that this was a problem for a lot of ford vehicles during the years 2004 thru 2008. i believe this should have been a recall repair. thank you. *tr

On october 31 2014 while visiting family after 350 mile drive my 2007 ford f-150 xlt super cab 4x4 4.6l motor made a noise similar to an explosion that was felt in the cab by all passengers. right after the explosion the truck lost power and sounded like an exhaust pipe had fallen off the motor. there was a strong smell of gas and exhaust but truck was drivable. brought truck to dealership and was told that 2 spark plugs has blown out and one of the two had taken the threads with it. advised me that this was very rare and i had to options to fix. one was to re-thread and replace all spark plugs for $899. second was to replace head at $2100. told dealership to do the lesser option. had to leave truck there and obtain a one way rental for 5 people at $300. have now found out that its not rare and may not be fixed even after the repair. i am glad that this happened on a surface road at low speed and not on the hwy. *tr

Water leaking from intake manifold coolant crossover line. crossover is an aluminum pipe that connects to the plastic intake manifold. when manifold started leaking coolant, 1 & 2 spark plug holes filled with water causing spark plugs to short out and stall the engine at low speed. per ford the only repair is replacement of the complete intake manifold at a cost of over $1200.00. this is a common problem with this engine. i have seen many complaints on f-150 forums via the internet of people having the same problem. my truck has only 105000 miles on it. *tr

Cool wet morning (65f) but not raining at the time. drove down hill to stop sign at 35mph. after slowing to about 5mph, truck suddenly surged despite braking hard enough to engage antilock brakes dragging the truck into the intersection. less than a mile later, still going down hill at 25mph slowed for another stop sign. engine surged again to 3000rpm. drag into intersection was avoided by shifting to neutral. surge dropped spontaneously within 10 seconds. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, the vehicle decelerated as the check engine warning light illuminated. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the camshaft phaser needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.

Blew #2 spark plug and coil out of head. *tr

I was driving down the road and i heard a loud popping noise so i pulled off on the side of the road and turned the truck off. i then saw smoke like the engine had overheated but in a matter of seconds flames ignited and i quickly got out of the vehicle and called 911. as i was speaking to the dispatcher there was a loud explosion and the whole front of my truck was engulfed in flames. by the time the fire department arrived and put out the fire my hood was totally burned up the engine is burned up and melted and the windshield and driver's side window blew out and the dash and front interior is burned and melted. i am lucky that i was able to get out in time because it happened so quickly. i am also glad my 10 month old son was not with me on this day. *tr

Noticed severe gas fumes inside cab, as well as outside cab. raise hood , started engine and noticed fuel leak about the size of a pencil streaming out from hose that is attached to fuel rail. removed fuel rail the next day and found a split in the hose under the cloth protective outer lining. is there a recall for this particular failure. ?. this could have been a serious situation if it would have been a longer distance road trip. failure p/n 5c3z97f792da fuel rail. *tr

Stopped at a light and truck started to shake violently then died. truck restarted and drove to a mechanic. was told that the error codes stated the cam sensors and every error for them came up. he pulled up a blog and said that alot of people are complaining about the exact errors. some did a quick fix to sell others need a new motor. i called ford and they say a memo went to dealers but until more come up they won't / can't help. was told if i get it fixed save the receipts. called the dealer and possible $6,000-$7,000 for new motor. *tr

Repeated failure 2007 ford f150 ignition coil.have replaced 3 ignition coil assembly's in my ford f150. one in "2011" and 2 in 2014. ( do not remember the exact date of first , was about 2011 ) searched the net and read time after time ford f150 owners with the same issue. seems ford must know about issue , but not fixed or recalled. my 2014 ignition coil repair cost $94 each one plus labor. ( x3 so far ) this year , i wanted 3 months with the ignition coil issue to get the time and money to have ford fix. *tr

In starting the vehicle, there was a loud bang, and then clattering. it turned out to be a blown spark plug. the threads on the engine head and spark plug were stripped/smashed. the coil was coil was also damaged beyond repair. both mechanics i saw to fix the problem were well aware of problems with blown spark plugs in the f150, and on-line research indicates this has been a problem with the f150 since 1997. the spark plugs were factory installed, and i was sill under the mileage recommendation for new plugs. very disappointing that ford would not step-up to acknowledge that this is their problem and pay for the fix. the ford corporate headquarters rep i spoke with claimed to have never heard of this problem before. *tr

While driving the truck a noticeable noise was generated from the engine and the truck shut off. the low oil senor came on during operation. shut engine off and restarted noise stopped. *tr

There is a knocking sound coming from the motor already replaced the catalytic converters and o2 sensors and the sound is still there with the check engine light on.when the truck gains some speed the truck shakes don't feel real safe driving it long distances. *tr

My 2007 ford f150 has a major problem, when coming to a stop at a stop sign or red light, the engine surges forward the rpm gauge will fall to 400 rpm and without warning it surges to 1000 to 1200 rpm making it hard to control the truck, i'm very disappointed with ford, i am a repeat ford customer, but with this problem with my f150 it has only 35000 miles ford will loose me as a customer for sure . *tr

Having issue with the timing, timing solenoids. i had this same issue in nov. 2012. *tr

As i was driving the truck engine started to shake and then a loud bang .upon inspection found that the spark plug for cylinder 3 had blown out(ford recommends spark plug replacement at 100000 miles had only 65000 miles) after i got the truck home i called fords helpline and was told that there was nothing they would do to help .had to fix and pay for the repair myself and also found that the cylinder #2 plug was defective to. *tr

I was driving threw town last june & all the sudden my check engine light came on & truck started running really rough & acted like it was starving for gas or fire so i took my truck to a parts store & had code read it showed a miss fire @ #6 cylinder / spark plug it cost me almost $1,200 to get it fixed . that was for all 8 plugs & coils for really needs to fix there design flaw on the 4.6l & 5.4l engine there is no reason a vehicle should cost that much just to change plugs just cause they don't want to fix there mess up to make it more affordable to the public.they say till the nhtsa issues a recall they will ignore the problem with the spark plugs & all the issues that come with them since they changed the motors designs. thank you conserned consumer/firefighter [xxx] please take some action in this matter. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

While doing pmcs a spark plug ejected from the motor. i dont like being shot at from my truck. *tr

I bought this truck new. at approx. 22000, i was driving at approx 50 mph when the engine started a shake, rattle and roll. in less than 1/4 mile, the engine locked but i was able to coast off the highway. it was late saturday but after 2-3 hours found a tow truck and had it towed to the local ford dealer and left it their back lot. i was told the next week that ford wanted the engine back intact. after around three weeks and $800+ for a rental i got the trick back with a new engine. 2800 miles later, the exact same thing happened. my warranty was out on time but ford did replace the engine again but i was out the rental car--again $800+. this was some 6 months back and all is ok for now but i was told if the engine blows again ford will not cover it. and on the 2nd replacement (3rd total) engine that pistons were in the oil pan. 5.4 engine. *tr

My truck accelerated on it's own while hitting the brake, i thought it might be my new mat so i removed it and it happened again. not sure if i hit the gas pedal at the same time as the brake? i have never had this happen in all the years i drove fords or gmc. your form would be easier if you could just type in info and boy i wish these programs would get rid of the state box and let us type it in. *tr

Bought the t07 f150 at 28k and at 61k this happened. while driving at low gear 2nd the enging chugged a little ( lke an old diesal) took it to the dealer they said it was probably the small oil seal behind the cam. they was going to charge be 5600 for a new engine. they tried like he11 to get me to say i didnt have the oil changed regularly. i never backed down, then reminded them that i had bought the $2700.00 extended warrenty (which i usually never did) they bauked and cried. buy said that they would find another used engine, they called me and said that they found one for 3500 (or something like that) i began a long search online and found a rebuild for less and gave them the information. they decided to go with that. they ordered the engine and installed it ( well what do you know the replacement had the same prob) they had to pull that engine and get another from the company . took an extra week and got the truck back its now at 100k and still runs well (so i know it wasnt my driving) so it had to be the incorrect placement of that seal from the dealer, which would leaked hot oil onto the engine and cause a fire. i looked at the origional paper work that they had to replace th origional wiring harness before it even left the factory.

Hauling my daughter's basketball team back from king city, ca on us 101 northbound. accelerated to merge on to highway, engine coughed, lurched, coughed, lurched, shook and finally proceeded. took it to the shop and was told that a bad spark plug had fried my coil. that explained some of it. i was told by the service manager to bring it back before 100k miles, and i did. now i am told that all the remaining spark plugs are effected, but they don't see any issue when they run diagnostics. therefore, it cannot be repaired. great. just made the last payment on it too. *tr

My 2007 ford f-150 xlt 5.4 triton was brought in for a routine tune up. when removal of the spark plugs 6 of 8 broke off. the mechanics attempted to remove the broken parts but could not. now i am told i need to have the heads of the motor taken off and or have the engine replaced. this motor has run fine except for mis fireing spark plugs. i talked to other mechanics and auto part stores, prior to having this work done and they all warned me that this may happen, the breaking off of the spark plugs. i can`t afford to have this major work done at this time, and i feel that ford has a bad product in it`s spark plug. has there been any other complaints in this matter [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Had a bad miss at highway speeds and limped home 15 miles. replaced spark plugs and in the process broke two in the head. one did not break completely off (#4) and i needed to borrow a prototype tool from lisle tool corp. removed and replaced plugs following ford procedures. truck still had a miss. replaced all eight coil packs which fixed the problem. total cost$380.00. truck down for 6 days awaiting tools and parts. developed a vibration at highway speeds. original tires(pirelli) were separating. replaced tires(976.00), much better. still have slight vibration at highway speeeds. found left front hub bearing seeping grease and feels stiff. awaiting parts to do repairs. (98.00) had a transmission shudder at light load in overdrive. flushed transmission with bg products and flush machine. added new trans fluid and conditioner. transmission now shudders at all speeds when hot. will order new filter and replace. will add friction modifier and try again. have to tow another vehicle this weekend and am afraid to do so. i am completely blown away that these problems could happen to any vehicle starting at 48,000 miles. all maintenance has been performed with top of the line products. have been a ford owner all my life and am completely dis-satisfied with the performance of this supposed number one selling truck. the sticker prices of these trucks should be a bunch less since cheaply produced chinese parts are so prevalently used. not happy. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford f-150. the contact stated that the engine light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated that the coil pack would have to be replaced. after the repair, the failure continued. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000. *tr

Three times since january 1, 2013 my ford f-150 has accelerated on its own. each time i was traveling less than 10 mph. each time i had to put the truck into neutral and turn it off. the rpm's went over 3000 and my foot was not on the gas. each time i checked to make sure there was nothing hung up in the gas peddle like carpet or trash. i took my truck to ford country in las vegas and the service writer said i was dreaming that something like that could not happen. i assure you that my truck accelerated on its own three times at speeds less than 10 mph. i would like to find out if this is a reported problem with a fix. i do not feel safe driving my truck in town and especially in traffic where it might accelerate on its own and hurt someone. any information that you need i can provide. i am willing to let you put any type of monitoring device on my truck so if or when it happens again you can see the results. thank you for your time. *tr

First why was" this vehicle included in the recall of bad throttle body i had the same problem as people are having with the ford escape. i reported this back in 2012 when it was brought to the attention of the nhtsa i did not receive a response then but there are the same problems with the f-150 i had to replace mine @ a cost of over $600.00 and also damaged my alternator i was driving in traffic when it went in limp home mode showing a wrench symbol with lost of power and acceleration, i almost was hit by several vehicles as there was know where to pull over time. this is the same throttle body that comes on the ford escape and it should be included with that group of recalls. *tr

I have a 2007 f150 at the time of incident my family and i were in ct and were doing approximately 45 mph on a highway. the truck began to buck violently and dropped to 20mph with out a warning or lights. then it started to run normal then started the same thing all over 20 minutes later. come to find out that the spark plugs needs to be replaced. no garage will touch it due to fords poor design ford says it will cost approximately five hundred dollars plus due to the poor design the spark plugs can brake in the cylinder heads. they said it can be $50.00 per broken spark plug and possibly more if the plug cannot remove broken part. i should only pay for plugs not fords design floor which need to be recalled. *tr

2007 f150 5.4 engine oil dipstick does not seat into the dipstick tube properly, approx 1/2", causing the engine oil level to always show 1/2 quart low level. *tr

Want me to spend $689 to change spark plugs due to possible breaking of plugs at removal. apparently this is a known problem.*tr

Vehicle was sitting in a parking spot at a post office. i started the vehicle and did not give it any gas and the engine revved to 6000 rpm's. not knowing what happened, i turned the engine off. i started it again and it did the same thing but started to come down in the rpm's but i still turned engine off. i started it a third time and it revved again but came back to normal rpm's. all this without giving it any gas. in april of this year the same thing happened to my other f-150 that is a 2005 which i will also file a detailed report on following this report. the ford dealership said it was the throttlebody and it had to be replaced. they said other fords were having the same problem but ford has not done a recall and has failed to recognize the seriousness of this problem. as you will see in my report on my 2005, it could have resulted in a fatality due to this issue. looking at blogs in the internet, others have had this same problem. my wife was driving the 2005 approaching a stop sign entering into a very busy street and the engine revved and pulled the vehicle into oncoming traffic before my wife was able to depress the emergency brake and bring the vehicle to a stop. the same issue according to the ford dealership was the throttlebody. *tr

The crankshaft thrust bearing malfunctioned. i was able to get the truck off of the highway and back to my house. i had to have it towed to a ford dealer. i have been doing alot of online research and found that this is a problem with alot of the f150's from 2005-2008. mainly on the triton 5.4l v8. i have contacted ford but they say that they do not know of any problems. my truck was not under a warranty and ford will not cover it. i am trying to get them to recall these engines to help the many others out there that have had to shell out $6000+ dollars as i have. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford-150. the contact stated that when he came to a complete stop, he heard a loud noise coming from the engine. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure was recurring. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 152,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford f-150. the contact stated that the engine became inoperable. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who advised that the failure could have been a manufacturing defect. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the failure was from the interior of the engine. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the only way the vehicle could be repaired is if the contact could provide the manufacture with proof that the vehicle was having an oil change performed every three months and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 94,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the check engine warning light. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who performed a diagnostic that determined that the spark plugs were misfiring on the sixth and eighth cylinders. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure was reported to the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 65,000. the current mileage was 96,000.

I have a 2007 ford f-150 with a 5.4l v8 engine. there was intermittent rattle noise (knocking) and rough idle. after the vehicle warms up and i come to a stop or slow roll the vehicle begins to shake and a loud knocking noise is heard in the engine. this is a known issue with this engine and ford denies it is. i had it fixed in september 2011, which was covered under warranty with 49,934 miles. the vehicle has started to do the same thing and currently has 82,000 miles on it. i was informed by both the dealer and ford motor company they will not repair under warranty even though this was prior issue during the warrantly time. dealer wants approximately $300.00 to inspect to determine the extent of damage to the engine. this is safety issue as it happens during slow speeds or idle at stop lights and only way to make it stop is to shut off the vehicle or rev up the rpms. i believe the tsb was aware of this issue in 2010 but the manufacture has not notified consumers. this is a manufacturer defect and ford motor needs to repair or replace the engine at their cost. *js

We purchased the vehicle new. before it was a year old, we heard a knocking sound. we were told it was normal. after a couple of years, the knocking got louder, took it to the dealer ship, they said it was normal. as the years passed, we asked other dealerships, repair shops, and there was never a recall. we were always told not to worry about it. the knocking sound got louder, the engine was bogging and today it is in the shop for a new engine and we have to come up with $6,000.00. there are thousands of complaints like mine. why is there not a recall????? *tr
