We have classified the 1 complaints from 2015 Ford Explorer about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Was driving on the highway about 60 mph, heard weird sound around on my driver side, pulled over and the trim around my windshield was hanging. i thought it was snapped back in, and when i got to work it was completely gone. i will take pics and add them to this later on.
The driver and passenger side door arm rests are coming apart at the seams as is the center console. the interior of my 2015 explorer with 45k miles looks terrible. looks like it's 20 years old. i am shocked.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford explorer. the contact stated that the armrest on the front driver's side door panel had fractured. the contact took the vehicle to greenway motors (located at 310 bedford rd, morris, il 60450, 815-768-1813) and was informed that the repair was covered per a customer satisfaction campaign. the dealer restapled the door panel, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa to file a complaint. the approximate failure mileage was 47,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford explorer. while driving at an unknown speed, the strip behind the hood detached from the vehicle. the contact was surprised, lost control of the vehicle, swerved, and almost crashed into another vehicle. the part that detached struck the driver's side window. the vehicle was taken to tri county ford (4032 commerce pkwy, buckner, ky 40010, (866) 417-0262) and repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 46,200.
When having the recalls fixed on my explorer the back liftgate is not center even the dealership fixing it said it was not also. they informed me i would need to bring it to a body shop to have it fixed. i have never been in an accident or hit anything so there is no reason for it not to be centered.
Front passenger side windshield molding became loose and broke off while driving on highway. the windshield seal also flew up and approximately 3 feet of the the seal came off and was flapping against passenger window before coming completely detached. it looks like some of the white clips are broken on that side windshield panel so we are unsure how to fix this. so now we are missing the entire side windshield molding, and about 2 to 3 feet of windshield stripping. now while traveling on the highway, there is also a vibration and sound like air is coming in from around the windshield. this all happened in the upper 30,000 mile range when i had the vehicle for only 3 months.
I was driving down the highway at 75 mph and heard a huge pop on the passenger window and something black fly by. we pulled over and saw that the plastic black trim on the sides of the windshield broke in half and the rubber was hanging off. i had to cut it off. after taking a closer look, it appears there are several pieces of the plastic trim that are warping and even the driver's side panel was lose so i'm sure it's only a matter of time before this side breaks off also. i see other people have had this happen to them also and it would be nice if ford would do a recall on the panels, as they are not cheap. even the board that the trim attaches itself to is coming lose.
The side panel popped out in the front passenger side of the vehicle for no apparent reason. the ford dealership i took it to was aware of it. the second issue we had at 66,000 miles was an error called 'terrain management fault'. both times this error occurred, we were moving. the first time it happened it fixed itself. the second time, we had to have it towed. this is so dangerous and someone is going to get hurt or killed. they had to replace the throttle body. please get ford to a dress these safety issues.
At the edge of the hood the paint is bubbling, my claim at ford has been denied at under 4 years old.
There is a terrible exhaust smell that comes into the interior cabin. the smell is even worse upon extended hard acceleration. in addition, there is bubbling in my hood due to faulty hoods being produced on ford explorers. ford has acknowledged both issues - as there is a tsb. ford's "fix" tsb-16016 is not a fix at all. it merely is a bandage for the problem as my family still smells exhaust in the vehicle. my 3 year old son is inhaling this toxic smell.
At around 100,000 miles drivers seat belt would not lock or unlock...started sticking around 95,000 miles. never had to replace a seatbelt before especially in a car that was only three years old. also, at around the same time the drivers side windshield pillar broke off and flew off while driving on the highway at around 65 mph. the passenger side flew off at 115,000 miles while driving on the highway as well. neither is covered by warranty and owner will have to come out of pocket to cover the damages ($500+). how can ford put on such cheap finishes to the car? noise level in the cab is affected due to wind noise. passenger pillarpopped loose and would not pop back in. appeared that a clip had broken.
Hood have detail retaining dents. when i back up swelling sounds
Exterior door handle came unhindered and it made the door to the point it cannot close.
Paint is peeling on the edge of the hood. two explorers 2015 family owns and peeling in the same location. contacted ford and was told we had to buy a new hood. there are many complaints on the internet saying the same thing. this paint less hood needs to be recalled due to factory fault or repainted how ever ford does it. around 2000.00 for a new one they told us. paint should last more then 3 to 4 years.
My vehicle exhibited a bubbling or blistering under the paint on aluminum body parts (hood). it was stated on ford's technical service bulletins tsb 04-25-1, tsb # 06-25-15, and the latest tsb 16-0028 that this was due to iron contamination of the aluminum panel. ford's warranty shows to be 5yr/unlimited mileage. for not wanting to warranty corrosion issue. we noticed the issue on thanksgiving 11/22/18, but from the looks of things, it seems as though the corroding has been going on for some time.
I discovered 5 inches of standing water in the interior of the vehicle where the spare tire is stored. there is no clear source of the leak on my inspection but the carpets are soaked and there is a smell of mold and mildew in the interior. the vehicle has not been in a flood zone or driven through standing water.
Car hood paint is bubbling and painting. there have been no accidents and the car only has 33,000 miles on it. ford will not cover it under the mfgr warranty since the in service date is over 3 years.
I have a 2015 ford explorer, my driver side windshield pillar/trim flew off while on the expressway. i called the dealership that stated they would have to determine if this was a defect. i found this forum that has a few complaints about the same problem but yet a recall has not been issued. at the dealership the service man stated they would have to replace both sides? odd, not exactly they are aware that at some point the other side is bound to fly off also. i was told although i have warranty up to 100,000 mi, this is not covered. so next step was to contact ford who then stated that they and nhtsa do rigorous safety testing and have not come to a conclusion that this is an issue. i was on the expressway this trim flying off my vehicle could of hit a motorcyclist or another windshield and caused damage. not to mention, it hit my windshield before flying off that scared me. so apparently there are not enough reports. and i was told by a ford cs rep that forums on the internet are not considered unless it is a ford forum.
The suv is only 3 years old we bought it new from the lot then. i noticed today the hood is bubbling up and the paint is chipping off. this drivers door is cracking at the seem. very poor quality from ford.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford explorer. while driving 70 mph, the rubber pillar trim on the driver's side of the window shield detached without warning. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000. ... *bf *tr
The hood on our 2015's paint is peeling off. we are told the same hood is on the 2016 explorer and there is a recall on the paint...we have bumper to bumper warranty. how do we get this repainted.
Wife was driving car on highway. driver side window molding blew off while going 60 mph on highway. had to swerve to miss it. this is the second time this has happened. it happened last week to passenger side.
Passenger side windshield trim flew off while traveling on the highway at 70 mph.
Passenger side "a post" window molding blew off during highway driving at 60mph. molding showed no signs of failure prior to incident.
One instance while driving on the freeway left side windshield rubber seal starts flapping against side window then eventually flies off. next while driving on freeway the windshield side trim breaks off. now the right side trim has ripped & flown off on freeway. which will mean the trim will probably break as well.
I started with headaches ,and always nassau, always. tired ,when i push on the accelerator i smelled fumes coming out of my a/c ..i was driving wide awake on 95 north ,processing to go home .i was in orangeburg s.c.i had been talking through my radio connected bluetooth, i had a little over a hour to go .a deer .my airbags on the driver side deployed but not the passengers .and they did not stay up to long ,a godly smell was coming from my car,.everything looked hazy ,i got out of my car ,called 911 ,i did not go to hospitol til next day ,all i did was sleep waiting in the waiting room to be seen.i had x rays all kinds of tests done .i was hurting pretty bad .i still get headaches til this day .my lungs hurt too .i'm sure i have been positioned by carbon monoxide..everytime i drive my car ,i would get a headache nassau and very very sleepy tired .my memory was not good then eiether ,i still forget things til this day ..
The vehicle was tested and found to have 30 ppm of co in the vehicle while in operation.
After even a moderate rainfall, the vehicle leaks in the front passenger footwell and from the map light. the leaking primarily occurs when the vehicle is parked in our drivers. 5 repair attempts over the course of several months, including a full replacement of the sunroof, have not found or resolved the problem. the vehicle now smells of mold.
During the use of the ventilation system the cabin of the vehicle will fill with exhaust odor while sitting still or during movement down all roads. this smell grows the more the vehicle speeds up. the vehicle has 30k miles. this vehicle is a quick response vehicle for an emergency services organization.
The frame around the front window flies off. the right side (about 2 foot piece) flew off when driving down the interstate about 2 months ago. the left side flew off last week while again driving down the interstate. this cost several hundred dollars each to replace and is a safety hazard. in looking online there have been multiple complaints.
After 2 years of use the paint on the front of the hood is bubbling. clearly this is a manufacturing defect as this is a garage car and has been taken care of. on the advice of customer service, i took the car to the dealership who indicated that this is not a uncommon issue. the dealership told me to speak to customer service again. so, i called the ford customer number and spoke to janet who continued to repeat that they are no longer responsible for the defect because it showed up after my allotted mileage for warranty. she refused to allow me to speak to a supervisor and said they would contact me within 1 business day. i am still waiting for that call. after the disturbing call with janet, i spoke with antoinette and she told me she would speak to the service supervisor and give me a call back after another days she called back telling me they would not help me with the cost. i can clearly see on the internet that this does happen to ford explorers and many others have complained. ford has conveniently crafted their contract to easily exclude paint issues due to mileage when that has nothing to do with paint.
Have been hearing a vibration sound coming from the drivers side windshield for about a week but couldn't find the source of the sound. today, while driving on the highway at 65 mph, the black molding from the drivers side windshield flew off. luckily, there was nobody behind us when it happened. when we were able to stop and inspect it, it was clear the molding had broken at the clips and the vibration sound had been coming from there. *tr
My wife and i park our 2015 ford explorer xlt in the parking area in front of our house. in order to go anywhere, we need to back it out of its parking spot, reverse-turn to the right, apply the brakes, put the vehicle in drive, and finally drive forward on the driveway until reaching the street. this morning, my wife planned to go to the store. she entered the vehicle, started it, put it in reverse, and proceeded to back out of the parking spot. as usual, she applied the brakes to stop the car and put it in drive, but unfortunately, this morning the brakes did not respond. she applied the brakes a few more times to no avail. after that did not work, she applied the emergency brake, which did not do anything either. finally, she turned off the engine and put the car in park, which didn't do anything either. she ended up doing a u-turn in reverse. my other truck was parked to the right of where the ford explorer was parked, so once the ford explorer reached my parked truck and collided with it, the ford explorer finally stopped. in addition to my wife, our two sons aged 6 and 8, were inside the vehicle with her when this happened. we have attached a photo of the ford explorer collided onto my parked truck (a ford f150), which it had to do in order to stop and not collide into anything or anyone else. the main reason we got a ford explorer is because we believed it would be a sturdy suv that would keep my wife and kids safe, so this incident is extremely concerning. the car is almost new with approximately 12,000 miles and we have had already had to take it into the repair shop approximately eight times. we have asked ford to replace it, but they have not been willing to do so, which is why we are escalating this matter to regulating agencies for resolution as well as out of concern for other families who may have had a similar experience.
Exhaust fumes entering inside car when air condition is on. had car serviced told ford dealer of problem, they changed air filter still have problem.now it is all over news there is no fix for this problem. dosnt matter whether car is in motion or not.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford explorer. the contact noticed a musty mold odor that progressed internally due to various seams and seals that prematurely fractured and caused water intrusion. the vehicle was taken to the dealer five times for diagnostic testing, but the failure continued. the dealer was unable to prevent the failure after leaks near the sun roof. the front seals and the rear seals leaked water from various locations. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for a fifth time, but was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 13,000.
Exhaust fumes are entering the cabin. this happens mostly under heavy acceleration with the ac running. recently the exhaust fumes will enter the cabin sitting at a stop light if the windows are open. the dealer has performed all ford recommendations including sealing of body panel seams and replacing exhaust tips. exhaust fumes in the cabin cannot be safe.
***blf note: contact the consumer to obtain the vin and model year. 3-29-2016*** high tech key device in my pocket ,car is locked . while i was pumping gas ,someone enter the car on the opposite side, stole my purse inside of compartment box near the driver seat .those locks do not provide safety .as long the device is around ,anyone can open the car .this is a crucial problem .the control device must warn the person holding it , that some other activities are in progress .i believe that will save some unnecessary lost of belongings , or worse ,the lost of someone's life .i hope to see in the near future ,a manufacturer's recall of these car key devices.please let these unfortunate events be known by the public .i am sure that i am not the only victim.the vehicle was not in motion and was locked.
Passenger front window side panel has lifted from the bottom. i've taken it to the dealer and they say it is not a manufacturer defect? they refuse to fix it for free??? less than two years old when it came apart.
August 24, 2015 i was driving to a 7:00 pm exercise class .i was talking to my mother via bluetooth when i suddenly blacked out and drove across the service road and all 4 lanes both north and south of 287 . i wake to emergency responders pulling me from the car and putting me into a ambulance , my mother could hear all of this. i was taken to hospital and had multiple tests run but nothing was found . after i was discharged i had several more tests run and again nothing was found. $18,000 damage to car , medical bills , missed work and i had to retest to keep my drivers license but i never could find a cause. spring 2017 a friend sent me a article about ford explorers leaking carbon monoxide into the cabins . this made complete sense. i purchased a detector and have had it to go off twice. i am reporting this because ford needs to address this issue . they have said this only happens in modified police vehicles but i can tell you by my experience that is not true.
Since purchased brand new in 2015, we noticed when accelerating that there was an exhaust smell inside the cab with the windows closed. we also noticed on long trips we would get headaches and feel sleepy/weak. called the dealer and complained about exhaust odor, and was told it would be 600-700 dollars to reseal the cab and do some other repairs. i feel this is not fair and this is a defect the vehicle had since new.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford explorer. while driving 30 mph, the panoramic roof shattered onto the rear seat of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the panoramic glass was replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 3,354. ma 08/11/15 updated 10/20/2017*cn
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford explorer. the contact stated that there was an abnormal odor in the vehicle while driving approximately 45-65 mph. the failure happened without warning. the failure recurred on multiple occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there were approximately 20 holes that needed to be resealed. prior to the failure, the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ventilation cabin needed to be resealed. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 1,000. updated 08/30/16*lj; updated 5/9/18*jb *cn
Driving home up a hill with a newly purchased 2015 ford explorer my wife and i noticed a bad smell like exhaust fumes; we put this down to the new engine/exhaust burning off any factory grease etc. subsequent trips with all of my family in the suv we all experienced a foul exhaust and sulfur smell when going up a hill or accelerating above 3k rpm; there were no other vehicles in front of us to blame for the odor. we have taken the suv to the dealer 4 times now and they in conjuction with ford technical support cannot find the root cause. they have replaced/ installed: egr valve cover (tech bulletin), both exhaust down pipes, front transfer case. the dealer has no test equipment to find the problem or confirm we are smelling engine exhaust containing toxic gases including co.
I am going into the 5th month of leasing my 2015 ford explorer and i am not happy with this vehicle. currently the odometer reads 2,100 miles and they were not enjoyable miles. i have to say that this 2015 explorer has the worst design on the inside that i've ever seen. the outward visibility from the driver's seat for the front and rear of this vehicle is severely compromised by the huge c pillars which create blind spots within the vehicle. although this model has blis, i've almost been in 2 collisions because i cannot see my right side rear or left side rear due to the faulty design of the interior of the vehicle. the blis system did not warn me that there was a tractor trailer approaching me on the left side. this is a problem that the dealer cannot remedy. this is a factory design flaw that is going to get someone seriously injured or killed because the driver can't see what's coming. the blis is useless. navigating through tight spaces is almost impossible because you cannot see the front end to judge your distance between vehicles/objects and the wide front pillars also add to the frustration of trying to see what's on the side of the vehicle. the blower motor for the heating/ac system just turns off as well as the dashboard cluster lights and then comes back on after 10 - 15 seconds. this has occurred a few times. there is a burning smell inside the vehicle upon start up. not sure if it's exhaust gas entering the vehicle or if it's something in the heater/ac system. (i was told at the dealership that this is a common problem and will dissipate after a few thousand miles). not the answer that i wanted to hear. i do not feel safe driving this vehicle. the sensation of not feeling safe while driving makes for unsafe driving. my life and the lives of my passengers and other motorists is of my utmost concern. i am returning this suv to ford. *tr
When driving at higher speeds posted at 60, 65 mph, etc on open highways there is a very loud noise across front windshield. cannot operate the radio unless volume is so high that cannot talk or hear. concern that windshield may not be sealed properly.
Exhaust fumes enter cabin with moderate to heavy acceleration through the a/c system and in recirculation mode causing nausea and headache.
