Problems with 2015 Ford Explorer AIR BAGS

On average, the 2015 Ford Explorer starts to “feel” problems with the AIR BAGS and its various aspects after 51 052 miles.

Recently reported AIR BAGS problems on 2015 Ford Explorer

Airbag light staying on. dealer diagnosed rear seat issue and $911.00 to repair. ford issued tsb 16-0001 due to it being a common problem. due to the high cost of repair some customers do not have the repair completed resulting in an unsafe situation. since this involves an important safety issue a mandatory recall should be required so the manufacturing defect can be resolved.

The air bag warning light turns on for no reason

The airbag warning light came on without warning or incident (no accident or impact, just started my car one day and the light stayed on). per research done online with same warning light, make and model of vehicle, issue appeared to be with the rear/2nd row seat belt airbags disengaging and this causes none of the airbags to work in the vehicle in the event of a crash. at the time the light initially came on i had about 72k miles on my car, and it appears this is about the same mileage of all other explorer owners with this issue. i took it in for service for the light and incurred repairs totaling just under $1,000 to have the parts replaced and the airbags function again. the fact that i did nothing (other than turn on my car when it was approaching the 70-75k mileage mark) to cause malfunction of the airbags but had to pay $1,000 to fix it and have airbags work in my car in the event of an accident is disappointing. ford needs to issue a recall for this, it's unacceptable to have owner and passenger safety compromised through no fault of the owner, and have to incur costly repairs to make this right. i kept my receipts available to prove cause and cost of airbag light issue.

Airbag sensor came on at about 55,000 miles. went to dealer and they put on computer; told it is tsb 16-0001. dealer suggested to replace the airbag harness, with connectors replaced for $963.17, b/c warranty expired at 60,000 miles. this is a safety issue as none of the airbags in the car will deploy unless i pay ford for a part that has no moving parts. looking to see if aftermarket warranty will cover. i see multiple people with same issue have reported this so there should be a recall since it is a safety issue, potentially for children.

A light on my instrument cluster came on. it illuminates a man strapped in his seat with a deployed air bag in front of him. the light stays on. according to me research, the problem is common to 2015 ford explorers. there is a wiring harness under the seat that has been frayed by the movement of the seat when it is being adjusted by the driver. the cost to have repairs made is anywhere from $1000 to $1400. i am told that until it is repaired, the airbags will not deploy. that seems to me like an unnecessary design flaw, and it creates a dangerous condition with the vehicle. i don't have the money to have mine repaired, so i guess i'll just have to be careful and hope for the best...

Airbag warning light came on around 65k miles.

My airbag light came on and when i took it to ford dealership i was told it is in the wiring and estimated cost is $1000 to fix meanwhile until i can afford to fix it i have no airbags in my explorer not safe for going into winter and having grandchildren in my suv. *tr*jb

My husband loss consciousness while driving due to unknown reasons (medical issue). he went off the highway at 65 mph and crashed into several trees. despite extensive damage to the front end, resulting in a total loss, the airbags never deployed. my husband later experienced post-concussion symptoms as diagnosed by the hospital. injuries may have been prevented had the airbags deployed.

Airbag light came on after the children got buckled into the second-row seat. upon going to the dealership to find the problem, we were told that it will cost over $800 to repair the seatbelt airbag connections! searching online i found that there was a service bulletin that was issued back in 2015, but it does not seem that a recall has been issued. this seems like a problem that is being experienced by many vehicles and i wanted to point it out to be considered for a recall. ford explorer 2014-2016: bulletin information involving vehicles equipped with second row inflatable seat belts may exhibit an airbag warning light illuminated with dtc b141b and b141c.

The airbag light came on and this is what the code says. restraint control module second row driver side inflatable seatbelt deployment control

Faulty airbag sensor, dealer repairs are not guaranteed and the problem is not repairable under warranty. currently the vehicle has 86728 miles. vehicle was stationary when it first came on.

Airbag warning light stays on all of the time on 2015 ford explorer. ford dealership in chesterfield, mo indicated the entire wiring harness had to be replaced at a cost of $1600. they had seen this problem before. service person indicated that air bags may not deploy if in an accident when airbag warning light is on. due to the fundamental safety issue with a hardware flaw (not wear and tear), i believe there should be a recall due to the risk to public safety.

Airbag sensor came on at about 66,000 miles. disregarded for a while, as i was on a long trip. went to dealer and they put on computer; diagnosis codes are dtc b141b and b141c. dealer suggested to replace the airbag harness, with connectors replaced for $963.17, b/c warranty conveniently expired at 60,000 miles. this is a safety issue as none of the airbags in the car will deploy unless i pay ford ransom for a part that has no moving parts. i see multiple people with same issue so there should be a recall.

I own a 2015 ford explorer. while driving my airbag light is continuously on and from what i understand the airbags will not deploy. this causes me concern not only for my own safety but for my children's safety. my vehicle is currently with stivers ford in waukee, ia, where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness for the second row driver side inflatable seat belt deployment control failed and needs to be replaced. i am replacing as i feel i need to for my families and i safety, but it is very expensive. it is not covered under warranty, but should be considered a recall because there is no wear and tear. there is faulty wiring. the approximate failure mileage of my car is 52,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford explorer. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated while driving. the contact was concerned for his safety. the vehicle was taken to ciocca ford of quakertown (located at 321 s west end blvd, quakertown, pa 18951, (215) 536-8600) where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness for the second row driver side inflatable seat belt deployment control failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fees. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: cas-17203222. the contact was referred to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 61,000.

Airbag indicator light came on. goes off intermittently but is on more than it is off. took vehicle to dealership. they ran the codes and indicated it was a short in the wiring harness under both left and right passenger seats in the second row. the dealer indicated that without repair it was possible the entire airbag system would not function properly.

Airbag warning light on. because of this airbags were disabled. took to dealer for evaluation. they told me was not due to abuse, wear, or accident. was told that they had to reroute wiring path from factory. then they charged me $332

I've recently noticed my airbag light on in my vehicle dashboard. i ran a scan tool but nothing is being picked up by the scanner. not sure what i need to do next. i've only owned the vehicle for a few months now. its used but doesnt look like its been in any accidents. i did just have my car cleaned at a car wash and they cleaned out the car. i wonder if they hit the wiring under the seats trying to clean the 3rd row seating area?

Was driving and the steer well became lock couldn't turn the wheel, tried to pump the brakes and they didn't catch. end up driving right into a pole and the airbags didn't deploy with everyone hitting their heads and kids getting concussions.

The airbag wiring harness is faulty, causing no air bags. the part to repair has been on back order due to high demand. my vehicle has been without airbag system three weeks with another two weeks to wait for part to arrive.the problem begun being addressed in october 2018 and has continued. part of wiring harness was replaced. told it was good to go and two weeks later no airbags. scary to have no airbags with children in car. dealer said, but you still have seatbelts......

Captains chair behind the driver's seat, seatbelt would no longer connect. seatbelt receptacle had to be replaced, now airbag light is on at all times.

The airbag light came on while driving and remained on (stationary and in all driving conditions) at about 61,000 miles while on a road trip. the car was taken to grapevine ford in grapevine, tx at 62,654 to be diagnosed. the cause was second row open harness with codes b141b and b141c. check oasis found tsb #16-001, applied to repair. per tsb, repositioned harness and replaced connectors. per tsb, cleared codes. the repairs were covered under cpo warranty with $100 deductible.

Air bag indicator light stays on.

Takata recall involving vehicles in southern florida for a similar ford vehicle

Airbag indicator light illuminated when operating vehicle. dealer indicated that it is a wiring connector problem, but not covered under basic extended warranty. known issue with a tsb 16-0001 issued to fix problem. this should be an considered as a recall as a safety issue as it is not a "wear & tear" situation.

Airbag recall the airbag indicator light came when i put the key in the ignition to start vehicle about two days ago.

The airbag light is on again. i had this in for service on 1/31/17 with 31,455. now the light is on again. from what i understand my airbags will not work.

Airbag light comes on & stays on from time to time, this has been happening on & off for about the last 10 months. too my vehicle in for this issue to be checked a couple times but since the light went off tech was unable to diagnose problem. finally yesterday i was able to get my vehicle to the dealership while the light was still on. i am still in my extended warranty period 5yr/60,000 miles but apparently whatever repair my system needs to function properly is not covered even though the manual states that my vehicles safety belts & airbag system are covered for an extended safety restraint coverage period. this is a serious safety concern & from what i've researched this is a known issue by ford. if i don't pay $800 my airbags will not deploy in the vent i had an accident

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford explorer. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated when the child safety seat was placed in the middle row seat on the passenger side. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (frontier ford, 3701 stevens creek blvd, santa clara, ca 95051) and was informed that there would be a diagnostic fee for the service. the contact declined to pay. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 33,000.

Airbag light has come on for the second time. the vehicle is currently at approxi mately 62,000 miles. the previous time the airbag came on was for defective seatbelts with the airbags in passenger compartment. also, a smell of sulfur is coming from the air vents when the air conditioning is on. the smell is strongest when the car is stationary. when the car is traveling at highway speeds without a/c on, there is no odor.

Airbag restraint system warning light stays on all the time. ford should be aware of this problems due to complaints listed on several websites and service visits. problems with the inflatable seat belt connecters and airbag connecters. this causes the safety restraint system malfunction.

The airbag warning light has been illuminating intermittently over the last year or so. i took my vehicle to ken grody ford on september 26, 2017 and asked them to look at it but was told that they couldn't find anything wrong. the light now is on all of the time. i ran a vehicle health report and it indicated "restraints & driver assistance - urgent service required! - indicates an issue with the supplementary restraint system which includes the air bags and seat belt buckle pretensioners"

Keeps having check engine light come on, also keeps having aibag deactivated signal come on instrument panel. also, keeps having issues where windows won't go up or down even when pushing any of buttons. keeps having problems with wipers not wanting to work too. (all these things are not consistently on or happening. they happen daily at any given time) 2nd row captain seat the push button won't work on folding the seat. navigation system keeps having issues of not wanting to properly work or says no navigation card when there is one there. also, radio has not wanted to work; the whole system ent, nav, phone, climate wouldn't work. there has been few times smell something burning coming through vents. have tried doing the owner report with ford like owners suppose to be able to do. have not been able to ever get a reading, or a diagnosis. have had it to dealership 3 times still issues. all these issues happen no matter what temperature is outside, no matter whether driving or sitting still. to try get things working right have pulled over to turn off vehicle and back on several times to try get things working properly. it isn't safe to drive in south georgia or in florida in down pour of rain when don't have working wipers!!! it isn't reassuring about deactivated airgbag signal on the instrument panel. definetly aggregating considering we just purchased this 6 months ago! (we have 13 different video footage to all this for proof that we 've shown dealership, and service department; videos to big for here)

Air bag light came on the next day after i purchased a new vehicle. this is a safety issue since the air bag will not deploy when the air bag light is on.
