Problems with 2015 Ford Explorer SUSPENSION

On average, the 2015 Ford Explorer starts to “feel” problems with the SUSPENSION and its various aspects after 48 320 miles.

Recently reported SUSPENSION problems on 2015 Ford Explorer

There was a recall on my 2015 ford explorer for the toe link suspension replacement. i had ot fixed on 1/7/20 and on 2/14/20 i was driving on 106 in springfield vermont doing 50 miles per hour and the toe link suspension they replaced broke and i lost total control of my suv. all most had head on collision i was almost killed. i had it towed to ford dealership and they took it apart again and stated that the reason the toe link suspension continues to break is due to the nuckle and bushings. and ford corporation said it was not covered and there for i was responsible for the repairs and total cost. which is $2,411 i do not have that kind of money. my suv is still at ford dealership. need help resolving this issue and get my suv fixed as it is there cause of the breakage. please tell people not to drive there vehicle if there toe link suspension is bad cause when it goes you have no control of your steering. and you never know when its gona happen. it's like sliding on ice side ways. very scary. never want to go though this ever again. this happen on a busy street with on coming vehicles that some how i didnt have head on collision. i do not have pics as my vehicle was towed to ford dealership. hide tire on passenger side pointed out and would drive side ways and that's what i was doing at 50 miles an hour. not a good feeling

After leaving my community property with my 2015 ford explorer, i turned left at approximately 5-15 miles per hour and suddenly i heard a clank/scrape and lost control of vehicle (image 1). see scrap on cement where vehicle control was lost in the street. vehicle stopped at end of skid marks (image 2). after turning left (east) , i immediately lost control of vehicle where orange van is located, which is believed due to axle break (image 2). after losing control, vehicle veered left towards curve. i continued to fight for control and vehicle hit the curve while vehicle was headed between two trees towards homes. fortunately, i was able to momentarily gain control before vehicle went down embankment and return vehicle to main road. see skid marks. my vehicle only had 75,038 miles. the ford dealership said that my control arm broke which caused the incident. however, they would not take responsibility of the repair.

Front sway bar links had to be replaced because they were broke. i brought my car in for the recall of the rear suspension. i have not hit anything or been in a wreck so there is no reason for this to have been broke.

When steering left or right at a standstill, steering makes a popping or clicking noise. my guess is it is either rack and pinion assembly or suspension parts. in addition, rear end has a bad rattle even on smooth roads. there is about 59,500 miles on the suv and it was just state inspected. we are afraid to drive it. checked complaint boards and there are many similar problems.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford explorer. while driving, a wobbling noise was heard from the rear of the vehicle. the contact checked the wheels, but did not notice anything abnormal. the wobbling noise became worse. the vehicle was taken to cole ford lincoln (410 e chicago st, coldwater, mi 49036, (517) 278-5661) the dealer was in the process of performing a rear alignment. the contact did not know the cause of the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and transferred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 106,000. the vin was not available.

Noise when turning or backing up on drivers side. new shocks/struts have recently been put on the front.

Constant steering popping noises including occasional steering binding and locking up. i have had a few incidents where i narrowly avoided an accident after steering limited to approximately 30 degrees. i had to muscle the wheel, and after a loud bang, full steering rotation was regained. likely the same issue as in previous year models where steering rack had to be replaced under a mass recall. dealership assuming it is the same issue, yet the recall did not carry over to 2015's which suffer the same problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford explorer. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v435000 (suspension). the contact called tommie vaughn ford at 888-841-4361 (located at 1201 n shepherd dr, houston, tx 77008) and was informed that the parts were not available. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. the contact was also informed that there was no provision for a loaner vehicle. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.

Recall items suspension unstable while in motion

Vehicle makes grinding noise when turning right. this vehicle just has 40k miles and the struts should not be making sounds like this. this happens when the vehicle is in slow motion and in reverse. this was recalled in 2011-2014 but not in 2015 and i believe was in an on going issue. these vehicle was manufactured in july 2014.

A little over a month ago the left rear toe link broke while driving. this caused the car to lose control and go into a sideways slide, breaking the wheel hub in the process. smooth road going about 50 mph in good conditions. we got the car fixed and had to pay for the repairs since the car is no longer under factory warranty. after the ford dealer in mchenry il had it for over a week, we got the car back, drove it for a few days and suddenly we had a cracked exhaust flex pipe. we had to pay several hundred more to get that repaired. again, driven on smooth roads in the summer, nothing that would have caused this so suddenly. got the car back again after several more days in the shop.. drove it for a couple more days and the left rear toe link broke.. again... dealer this time installed the "recall kit" on both sides. luckily, this time it was at slow speeds coming into a parking lot . had the car towed back to the dealer. again.. we have had the car back for about 3 days now, and the left toe link has come loose.. again.. the car will be towed back to the dealer tomorrow because it is unsafe to drive. it was driven 3 times at low speeds around town since we got it back. my wife is now afraid to drive the car out of fear of it breaking again. this is a serious issue if the recall part doesn't work. when this part fails, this car has a severe loss of control and can very easily result in an accident. ford needs to get to the bottom of this before someone gets killed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford explorer. the contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the front suspension on the driver side collapsed. the vehicle veered to the left and hit the concrete barrier, bounced and hit the right concrete barrier. none of the frontal air bags deployed. the police was present and a report was issued. the contact was transported to the hospital by ambulance, treated and released. the vehicle was towed to an impound lot. the insurance company labeled the vehicle as destroyed. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

When we turn the wheel to the right it has a loud popping noise during driving or stationary its progressing from a popping and something the steering wheel gets stuck. told by two different mechanics that the popping noise has to do with strut and cv joint and electric steering gear and rack and pinion going bad. our explorer only has 91000 miles. both mechanics say this is odd that this is going on for a 2015. that we should check for recalls.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford explorer. while driving 30 mph, the rear passenger side toe link cracked without warning. the contact lost control of the vehicle and had it towed to an independent mechanic. the mechanic replaced the passenger side toe link, but the failure recurred while driving 40 mph. the vehicle was towed back to the independent mechanic who diagnosed that the driver's side toe link failed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the contact associated the failures with nhtsa campaign number: 19v435000 (suspension). the vehicle was towed to brad manning ford (402 manning drive, dekalb, il 60115, 815-756-63250) where it was determined that the vehicle was not included in the recall; therefore, the contact paid for the repair. the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failures and did not assist since the vehicle was not included in the recall. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford explorer. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v435000 (suspension). the contact called art hill ford lincoln at 877-804-9059 (located at 901 w lincoln hwy, merrillville, in 46410) and was informed that the parts were not available. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. the contact stated that the vehicle was unstable when driving at various speeds on uneven terrain. there was no warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 40,000. parts distribution disconnect.

2015 explorer sport - have a binding, popping noise when turning the steering wheel to the right. pops before completing a full turn at full stop and will pop multiple times when doing a k-turn or right turn at slow speed. had thrust washer, nuts, and other items replaced nov 2017 at 34776 miles, now at 38000 and its back and of course techs can't duplicate. i also went to dealer and drove after they rotated tires and changed the oil and couldn't. next morning in driving its doing it again, but one pop at a time at full stop. this must be a defect becuase i had the same type of problem in my 2013 explorer. my warrenty is up and i need this fixed as i'm afraid to drive with confidence.

When my car is in any kind of turn you hear a popping noise . not very loud but noticeable. also when on a incline or decline a crunching noise can be heard. my son borrowed my car last weekend and noticed it. took it to dealership and they of course cannot replicate this noise. with all of the other complaints about this same issue i am appalled that ford has not looked into this. i guess not enough deaths or serious injuries have occurred yet for it to be on their radar.

Stopped in the street to do a u-turn, started my turn and lost steering. drove into a curb, got out of the car and discovered the lower control arm had snapped in half.

A blind spot sensor warning came on sunday 10-29 at 10:30am on the drivers side sensor while at a red light. approximately 4 miles later, the car began swerving and veered suddenly to the right hitting a curb. we continued swerving and hit the curb another 3 times and came to a stop. the car was out of control and we were in 4 lanes of traffic. the car is at the ford dealership and was diagnosed with a broken rear suspension tow link. a recal was issued 4/26/16 stating the tow link may fracture and according to ford, my vin number is not included in the recall. in january 2017, my rear hub bearing assembly went out and and was repaired under warranty and has since been announced as a recall on 8/28/17

I was driving my 2015 explorer about 55 mph, coming up to a driveway i needed to turn into a few hundred feet away. suddenly the car lurched and warning signals popped up on my dash. it alerted me my collision warning sensors failed and service advance trac. i attempted to brake and slow down for my trim and realized i had lost power brakes as well as power steering in my attempt to turn into the driveway. i narrowly missed hitting a tree while making the turn into the driveway. i coasted to a stop and immediately ran a vehicle diagnosis. it suggest i shut the vehicle off and turn it back on to see if the codes cleared. when i turned the vehicle on all warning were still displayed but brakes and steering returned. my local ford was fairly close so my father in law attempted to drive it there and suddenly all codes cleared out of the vehicle.

Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain wheel hub bearing assemblies, part number hb5z-1104-c, incorrectly listed as being for installation on the rear axles of 2011-2017 ford explorer 4x2 vehicles. these bearings assemblies were manufactured without a self retention feature, possibly resulting in the separation of the wheel or wheel end. is nootgood

While driving vehicle on highway, lost control and was barley able to stop truck after right lower control arm broke in half. ball joint was also completely out of socket. i don't see how something this dangerous and unsafe can happen while driving.

My unit is suffering since day one from the exhaust issue, almost textbook to the typical description in the news; upon acceleration with the a/c on, the exhaust of the vehicle get in presumably through the back of the vehicle, which are then sucked into the a/c by it's suction units on the back and you end up smelling the exhaust gases for a while. the issue is specially present while the day is cold (mornings and nights), on climbs (inclined upwards roads) and specifically upon acceleration; it doesn't have to have the a/c max button on, the road type has no influence and its relative speed is not a factor but rather just acceleration. i took it three times to the dealer, specially after i read about the issue happening to other vehicles and they said with the modifications they did should be corrected (extension of the muffler, re-sealing the trunk door, other procedures), but it didn't!. now i'm paying for an expensive car which has fouls and probably unhealthy odors getting into the car by its own design and have no recall or real solution to my problem. please issue a recall or demand a real solution to the problem by ford. if i would have the time and money i would have filed a lawsuit as i find almost a racket that you pay for a vehicle with such a bad design flaw and no real action to solve it from ford. also, it is not the only flaw as have had to repair the links of the front suspension (still under warranty) almost on every oil change visit, three times already, and the vehicle has less than 30k miles. please help!!!!

Sport model front end has had a loud popping/ creak noise when going over bumps at a angle and also sharp low speed manuevers ( pulling into tight parking space) since it was basicly brand new. loud ticking noise from front hubs at low speeds first visit to ford was at 9,000 miles they could not duplicate it. vehicle now has 32,000 miles roughly, the popping and creaking has gotten worse my wife was leaving work and was backing out of her parking spot and the rack and pinion locked up on her. mulltiple wanring lights came on and she was unable to steer the vehicle. she called me and i told her to cycle the key multiple times and see if it will reset to be able to drive to my work so i could scan it and see what codes it has. she took surface streets to my work. it had codes p0022: cam timing over retarted p052d: cold start cam timing over retarted p193e: a/c clutch request signal u0121: lost communication with abs control module c1b00: steering angle sensor this is the second time cam phaser codes came up. they replaced cam phaser this last visit and vehicle still stumbles/misfire feel at idle. they were "unable to duplicate" rack and pinion/ suspension noise. my wife does not feel safe driving vehicle. it has been getting random hard spots while driving. i took it to another local ford dealer and they want to charge me for diagnostic if they cant "duplicate" i just got done paying for 3 weeks of rental and cant risk several hundred more dollars to have them, say they cant duplicate it. so i will be picking up the explorer and i am now stuck with a unsafe vehicle as the steering could "lock up" again at any point. there are multiple cases just like mine that i found and i am not willing to risk having my wife and child have the rack and pinion fail while she is going down the freeway we got lucky with it locking up while at low speed the first time.

Stabalizer bar makes rattling noise. vehicle only has 40,000 miles and have had dealership look at it. stated they repaired it but front end still rattles. and repairs on this issue no longer covered under warranty. makes noises as you travel down the highway.

I bought the car in september of 2015 and noticed upon hard acceleration such as entering the interstate or passing a car there is a smell of exhaust that comes into the cabin area and in order to relieve the smell the windows need to be cracked a little bit and this only happens upon hard acceleration.i have not had this experience with any other vehicle. i have also had problems with the transmission but they cannot seem to figure out when accelerating between 20 and 40 miles per hour you feel a shift in the transmission which for a new vehicle is a bit odd. at 10,000 miles i had to have a stabilizer bar in the front and replaced i notice a lot of heavy clunking as i drove my car around and this seems to be the problem. i i have also had issues with the headliner coming out on the driver side front door this is been pushed in and replaced 3 times and it's working on its fourth time. the issues with the transmission and the exhaust fumes in the cab and have yet to be resolved.

August 24, 2015 i was driving to a 7:00 pm exercise class .i was talking to my mother via bluetooth when i suddenly blacked out and drove across the service road and all 4 lanes both north and south of 287 . i wake to emergency responders pulling me from the car and putting me into a ambulance , my mother could hear all of this. i was taken to hospital and had multiple tests run but nothing was found . after i was discharged i had several more tests run and again nothing was found. $18,000 damage to car , medical bills , missed work and i had to retest to keep my drivers license but i never could find a cause. spring 2017 a friend sent me a article about ford explorers leaking carbon monoxide into the cabins . this made complete sense. i purchased a detector and have had it to go off twice. i am reporting this because ford needs to address this issue . they have said this only happens in modified police vehicles but i can tell you by my experience that is not true.

Carbon monoxide in the ford explorer 2015 not fixed by ford dealership purchased from new 2015, customer complained about since day one delivery, unstable movements, left right, side to side, not fixed by ford dealership purchased. dealership states (not our problem, prove it.)

Driving home the vehicle veered to the left suddenly at approx 30 mph. tried steering it to the right but it would not. got out of vehicle to see that the left front suspension was on the ground. it had broken away from the car where it had been connected. luckily i was not hurt just shaken up. it had to be put on a tow truck and taken to ford. *tr

Returning home from church when all of a sudden i could not steer the car. it was veering to the left and i could not straighten it up. there was a thud and dirt and dust and the car stopped. got out and the front left suspension was on the ground. no ticket, no nothing because i did not hit anything. ford has made a decision that is was not a car failure. we ask for the findings of there inspections and was told thy did not release those to the customer. we really would like to see their report as i did not hit anything and want to know why this happened.
