We have classified the 1 complaints from 2014 Ford Explorer about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Driver side exterior door handle came off when door was opened while stationary.
Drivers side (windshield outer moulding trim pillar) flew off while driving on the freeway nearly hitting cars behind me continuing to rubber flap poundingon window and mirror until rubber flap also flew off.
While driving on the freeway on 2 occasions, the a-pilar trim pieces have flown off of both the driver and passenger side. this nearly caused a collision for the vehicles driving around me. i also learned that possibly secondary to the trim pieces flying off, the vehicle is now collecting water on be floorboard which has led to a mold infestation in the vehicle. ford said the aforementioned described items are not a manufactured or warranty repair. now my 5 month old child is exploded to mold because ford cannot locate where the vehicle is leaking from.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford explorer. the contact stated that the front windshield trim detached from the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 141,000.
The black windshield moulding on the driver came loose. this is the second time this happened. i was on the highway.
The plastic covering on the drivers side window pillar flew off while going through an automated car wash. after inspecting the passenger side i noticed it is loose also and will probably fly off at some point also.
I was driving on the interstate and both pieces of the windshield trim flew off within 10 minutes of one another. luckily one was partly detached and i was able to keep it from flying and hitting another vehicle, but the other one flew off. luckily, it did not hit another vehicle, but easily could have hit a vehicle behind or beside us.
The a-pillar exterior molding fell off. this was the second time such a part falling off. this time it was the driver side. the first time was a year ago on the passenger side. the a-pillar exterior molding fell of on the freeway at high speed. the car was essentially a high-speed road hazard to public safety, because the pointed hard plastic molding became a projectile that can seriously hurt some car or people behind.
For about 8 months i have been suffering from dizziness spells that happen quite often, nausea , headaches, blurred vision, and anxiety that is brought on from these symptoms. i have been to the doctor countless times attempting to figure out the problem of the cause of my sickness. before i followed up on the recall i wasn't aware that my car was being recalled for carbon monoxide concerns. but it all makes sense the majority of time i feel these symptoms is either when i'm driving or have finished driving. (next dr's visit i will request they do lab work for potential carbon monoxide poisoning.) of course all the symptoms linger because obviously it stays in my system. i feel like my car is making me really sick. i am afraid to drive my car that i have had for 2 years.
While driving down the interstate around 70mph) the trim along the windshield on the driver's side suddenly snapped and flew off.
Exhaust fumes in cabin when accelerating at higher speeds, especially when entering interstate and passing cars at higher speeds.
Vehicle has 40k miles on it. strange vibration coming from passenger side. all of the sudden the window molding/trim from the windshield files off! causing motor vehicles behind us to swerve! got out and checked, sure enough the drivers side molding is loose to. this could be a huge safety issue. had it repaired, guy at the dealer told us it was a known problem. was doing approx 75 mph on i 75. it was very scary
I am writing to you in regards to physical illness that i have suffered as well as my passengers from my 2014 ford explorer police interceptor package. starting back when i first purchased the vehicle at approximately 59,000 miles, i have experienced an exhaust odor in the cabin shortly after accelerating over 3,000rpms. this issue has been investigated at my local dealership twice, with the technician confirming the smell. after this work was performed, i still to this day am suffering from exhaust fumes and physical illness directly related to my ford explorer. all repair orders from involved ford dealerships are in my possession confirming exhaust fumes are still entering the cabin. from the time i took ownership in october 2016, i have experienced physical illness when driving the vehicle for more than 1 hour at a time. i get extremely lightheaded and nauseated, which has caused me to frequently stop the vehicle and vomit. my passengers in the vehicle have also experienced similar symptoms when riding in the vehicle. when this happens, i stop at a safe location and remove myself to fresh air, and the symptoms soon pass and i am able to drive again. recently, i have traveled from massachusetts to vermont in my explorer. the mostly highway driving trip it was me as well as my girlfriend. after around an hour of driving at 60mph, my girlfriend and i were feeling very dizzy and became nauseated, so i opted to stop and relax at a rest stop for fresh air prior to continuing my trip to vermont. i have installed a carbon monoxide detector in my vehicle, which has activated more than one occasion while driving. at this time i am negotiating with ford's office of general counsel to perform a buyback of my explorer and replace it with a different vehicle.
The window trim on both sides of the front windshield became loose and then flew off of the vehicle while driving. the car has 3500 miles. why is this not a recall? others have had this same issue i have learned by reading these forums.
The car is little under three years old and the door panel is coming apart around the window. another issue is the smell of carbon dioxide when i accelerate. and another issue is the hood is showing rust spot (showing oxidization)
The electronic power steering rack has failed on our vehicle. this i have seen is a problem ford has had in the past and has still not remedied the problem. the out of pocket costs are $2500.00 . the steering is unsafe and is allover the road. further to this the power seat motor failed and they want $2500 to repair it . this i feel is very unfair and gouging.
The driver side windshield trim flew off my vehicle while i was driving on the highway at approximately 70mph. this is the second trim piece that has ripped off my vehicle while driving. the passenger side blew off about a year ago when i was driving on the highway. i am worried that a large piece of plastic flying off my car at high speeds may hit another vehicle on the road and cause and accident or injure someone. i googled "ford explorer windshield trim problems" and there is a lot of complaints online. the dealership wants to charge me $290 to fix it but i feel like this problem is dangerous and is not something that should occur with normal wear and tear on the vehicle. attached are photos of my car and the ford estimate so you can see the parts numbers. thank you for your help.
Passenger side windshield trim peeling back and separating from the windshield, heavy vibration noise occurs at speeds over 15 mph, at 65 it is deafening. no accident, no rough travel, this is a soccer mom car, that goes to school, supermarket and home. no rough history of washes. other issues listed online http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/explorer/2014/windows_windshield/windshield_trim_falling_off.shtml
Driving on the highway going about 65 miles per hour, passenger windshield side panel flew off the my 2014 ford explorer truck that could have caused damages to other vehicles behind me or even an accident. i just bought the vehicle from a dealership about 2 months ago. i notified the dealership and was told the part is not under extended warranty and i would have to pay over $200 to get the panel replaced.
Driver's side window trim molding has come loose twice. this is a common problem with newer model ford explorers. cost $200 to repair and not covered under extended warranty. mine came loose while driving fortunately, other's have flown right off the trucks causing a safety issue for other vehicles behind the truck. *tr
The paint is bubbling up on the front edge of he hood of my 2014 ford explorer at 33,000 miles.
The passenger side windshield trim pillar flew off while on expressway. i could dealership, although they are aware of replacing the steel frame and trim it isnt covered under my warranty and not enough complaint for a recall. this part flew off, i could of hit a motorcyclist or another car windshield or could of caused an accident. it scared me just as it hit my windshield and flew off, not to mention rubber molding was flapping around. i drive 25 mi back and forth 5 days a week to my employment, i find it very hard to believe that this isnt considered a defect, when the service department is admiting that both panels need to be replaced with improved frame and trim please help me, cost is over $285 and ford is not offering any sort of help. the cs rep were not professional either, refused to let me speak to a supervisor and when one came on she was also very unprofessional. i like to write down names and id # and she refused to provide last name and just chuckled before saying didnt matter how many times i called my case was closed.
I was driving down the road at 60 mph when window trim on right side flew off. a simple google search reveals that this is a chronic & recurring defect, one that is very dangerous to other drivers and pedestrians as well. i have already had to replace the left side trim at a cost of over $200. ford dealership refused to cover repair
2014 ford explorer. attorney representing consumer writes in regards to rust along front edge of vehicle hood. dealership refuses to replace hood or include requests under extended warranty protection. *smd it was finally determined, it was not rust as the consumer believed. the consumer returned to the dealer, where they repaired and repainted the hood. the consumer requested a replacement hood, but the ford representative stated it would not help as the new hood would have the same problem. in other words, the same repair would likely occur again, in the next 30 months. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford explorer. while driving 55 mph, the windshield trim detached from the vehicle. the vehicle was diagnosed and the parts and repair exceeded five hundred dollars. the contact notified the manufacturer. the vehicle was not repaired. the second piece became loose and detached from the vehicle. the contact was not sure the trim was installed properly. the failure occurred intermittently. the approximate failure mileage was 36,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford explorer. the contact stated that the paint on the vehicle's hood started to bubble and there was corrosion near the hatch. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was confirmed that the vehicle had experienced corrosion and the hood and the handle on the hatch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Purchased a used 14 explorer and took a 300 mile drive on remote highways. when i returned i noticed one the windshield panels was completely missing from the vehicle and the other one was also raised and appeared to be loosening. i did some research online and apparently this is a prevalent issue across 2013-14 explorers and one which ford doesn't even cover under its warranty- not to mention the safety hazard. i didn't even know this piece was gone until i got home. had their been a car behind me when this flew off going 75 mph, this could have caused some serious damage or accident. i find it absurd that ford has not issued a safety recall for this. not to mention it costs $650 to replace every time because you need to purchase an entirely new windshield. i have no idea how ford can continue to deny this issue considering how many message boards and posts i've seen regarding this exact issue. can you please assist with this and raise it as a significant safety issue?
Doors vinyl becoming unglued and preventing locking and unlocking of the doors
My grandson went off the road at 70mph into some pine trees and completle severed the passagens wheel off and windshield completle destroyes roof damage and body damage and no air bags deployed. i talke to a customer who also had a 2014 explorer that was involved in a collision and their air bags didn't deploy either .the damage to my vehicle was on the front and the side yet no airbage deployed. something is wrong !!! its a miracle my grandson is alive i have pictures.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford explorer. the contact stated that there was an abnormal noise coming from the front area of the vehicle near the bumper. the noise was present when the steering wheel was turned to the left or right. the dealer could not duplicate the failure initially. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer a second time and they replaced the half shaft thrust washer. on a third visit to the dealer, they provided a test drive, replaced the passenger side struts, and inspected the nuts and bolts; however, the noise continued. the vehicle was taken to the dealer's body shop. the technician moved the front bumper and replaced the front passenger side body apron panel along with new bolts, but the noise continued. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 39,000.
Vehicle was traveling approximately 30-35 mph down a road with no pot holes when the front right lower control arm broke in half. vehicle lost control and pulled to the right bringing the vehicle into the street curb. damage to the fender, tire, wheel, cv joint, and other associated parts reported. ford denies warranty claim....05-27-15 *bf updated 10/17/2017*cn
When my husband closed the hood it dented. one should have a reasonable expectation that when you close the hood that the metal will not bend. i believe that the aluminum that they are using is of too thin/ inferior grade. i would hate to see what would happen if there was an accident if the hood could bend so easily from just closing the hood. *tr
Their is a tsb 14-0130 exhaust oder in vehicle this is a seriouse problem especialy children are in rear of vehicles make cause co2 poising, some one should not have to die to make this a recall repair costs over $775 dollars if complain, if you ask for it after warrenty been complaing about smell, now after warrenty over, they foun tsb
At first the only time we would notice exhaust entering the cabin was after hard acceleration. now it seems that a lower speeds exhaust is entering regardless of acceleration levels on an intermittent basis. *tr
Upon acceleration exhaust enters the vehicle cabin. sometimes exhaust enters the vehicle cabin without acceleration. i thought i had reported this before. *tr

In june 2014 i noticed exhaust fumes in cabin while driving up hill and figured it was coming from the vehicle in front of me. on a early morning i accelerated up the hill with no cars in front of me i smelled exhaust fumes in cabin. then i noticed more and more under heavy acceleration the cabin fills with exhaust fumes. (entering highway, passing vehicles and going up hills).
Tl* the contact rented a 2014 ford explorer. the contact stated that he attempted to open the rear cup holder but four of his fingers became stuck inside of the plastic holder. the contact stated that he had to pry the holder open in order to release his fingers. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 10. the vin was unavailable.
Our '14 explorer has consistently allowed exhaust gas to enter the passenger compartment upon 1/2 to full throttle acceleration. still under warranty, the dealership said they would fix it for about $800! they said it was coming from exhaust entering the rear ac. ac on or off makes no difference.
When accelerating to pass a dangerous truck (58 mph) strong fumes comes inside the cabin, acceleration took 8 seconds, instantly we start coughing and get watery eyes, our year old baby start crying showing symptoms of distress, we tell this to sales person, which quickly told us the story that this happens with new cars.. supposedly new engines should not be highly accelerated. naively we believe this and decide to give it a few days? day become months and problem got worst, after few months we decide to take the car in for service, unfortunately ford from first day treat us like if we were inventing the matter, and make my wife look like if she were crazy, the worst part is that they know that car has the defect as previous generations has the same problem(fordtechnical bulletin confirm this ).we continue to follow the regular procedure and went to the dealership asking them to fix the problem, they only show they were clueless about it and after more than seven times leaving the car there they say there??s nothing they can do about it. we contact ford manufacturer directly, which make us go through a long process of verifying back and forward, and at the end an ??engineer?? send especially directly from ford to the dealership tell us practically that just don??t accelerate to avoid this !!!!.we took the car to specialist that measured co with a professional tool that show more than 140 part per million!!!!!.this is serious problem that ford should be responsible for it, my family has been sick with flue like symptoms for a long time, my wife experienced a very long lasting cough that only start getting better after forcefully i have to get her another car as i could no longer expose my family to more of this dangers. i request to ford to replace the car and they denied my request i believe nhtsa should step up on to this and protect the consumers, thanks *tr
