Vehicle was traveling only five miles on highway and transmission malfunctioned. also, when consumer applied brakes vehicle would take a long time to stop. dealership was aware of problem.*ak *slc

Transmission fails to brake in low gear. have repaired 3 times, ford refuses to repair again, says they are aware of the problem but cant fix it. i use low gear in steep mountain terrain where i live and it is a safety issue. they said use the brakes. i thought they should fix the vehicle. please help.*ak

Vehicle failed to start. also, while driving 55 mph, vehicle decelerated without prior warning causing loss of power. consumer has contacted dealer, dealer unable to determine cause of problem. *ak transmission was replaced. *slc

Stopped car in traffic to make a left hand turn. vehicle would not go when gas pedal was pressed. felt like vehicle was in neutral. then after awhilte it lunged forward with great force. i was able to stop and avoided a collision. this time they replaced the transmission. previously they replaced the fuel pump.*ak

While driving 20 mph driveshaft snapped in two, dealer repaired it under warranty, but, said that had never seen anything like it, and sent it to ford company. consumer has yet to hear from ford.*ak

Transmission or transfer case seems to be dropping out of gear. regardless of speed it will drop out then back in gear. sometimes when backing up and then putting vehicle in drive it sits there for almost one min. until it kicks in. been to the dealership a few times and they said it was normal. whem i bought this in aug of 2000 transfer case was empty of fluid and did not find out for two weeks. dealership refuses to check it or change it. already had a new engine in this in the first three weeks of ownership.*ak

There was a very loud noise coming from engine. took vehicle to dealer, and they replaced the engine lifters. 5 days later, problem reoccurred. vehicle has had 4 engines in last two years. *ak on several occasions, the check engine soon light came on. dealer replaced cam sensor and gas cap. however light came on again. occasionally there is a rough idle and vehicle feels as if it is about to stall. dealer replaced cyliner head gasket. transmission slipping. dealer found 2 3 shift valves sticking. *tt

Dt: consumer states that 6 months after purchasing the vehicle she contacted the manufacturer and told them there was a clattering sound coming from under the hood. there was a recall on the vehicle, and on the way to the dealership to have the recall repaired, the motor went out. consumer had previously taken the vehicle to merle kelly ford in chanute, kansas to have the drivetrain repaired, but was told they could not find the cause of the problem. she received a recall on the drivetrain, and on the way to the dealership, this problem occurred. there was a span of years i between the time she took the vehicle to the dealer and when the recall was issued. *ak

On 5 november i was driving to church and decided to stop the car by the side of the road, take off my jacket and place it on the back seat. i believe i put the gear into park, left the engine running, and got out. the next thing i knew the car was driving away, unmanned. it went off the road, then recrossed the road, and finally ended up in some trees. i was moderately injured when i fell trying to open the door of the rolling car. has this happened to other people? *ak

While reversing engine could not decelerate. when stepping on brakes pedal went to the floor, but vehicle could not be stopped, crashing into garage. then vehicle was towed to dealer, and they could not find out what caused problem.*ak

After only 20 miles of driving the vehicle, the consumer spotted a transmission leak in the driveway , three weeks after repair transmission was leakin again, the consumer is requesting a new vehicle. *slc

1st failure: transmission would not downshift. engine check engine & o/d lights on. dealer replaced all electronic trans components + valve assembly. 2nd failure: 2 months later transmission slipping, would not engage any gear. fluid leaking apparently from cooling line.

When traveling on the highway at 70 mph 4- wheel drive kicked in, causing transmission to downshift, resulting in sudden acceleration. consumer has contacted dealer. dealer has attempted to repair problem after each of the 4 incidents by replacing harness, computer, electronic controls, and transfer case. new problem has since developed--electrical malfunction when using auto door lock feature. *ak *ml

While son was driving, he put vehicle into overdrive before passing an intersection. when he took foot off the accelerator to step on the brakes, vehicle accelerated out of control, crashing into another vehicle. *ak

Rear axle assembly caused vehicle to vibrate at 70mph & over. when traveling at a lesser speed, it is hard to detect vibration. have taken to dealer, and informed consumer axle manufacturer knew of problem, but did not have a solution for it.*ak

Driveshaft broke twice, and had been replaced in july of 2000, and april of 2001. during first incident, consumer was told that yoke and another components was cracked. no determination has been made as to reason for this defect. please provide any additional information/attachments.*ak

While turning right / left the vehicle vibrates in the rear of the vehicle. dealer says it's normal. also, while test driving vehicle dealer claimed it acted like the clutches in the position unit were grabbing. so they added a friction modifier to rear differential and transfer case. problem somewhat diminished, but not entirely solved. *ak
