Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford expedition. while driving at various speeds, the contact heard a beeping noise and then noticed that the check electronic throttle warning light was illuminated as the vehicle lost power. the failure recurred on four separate occasions. the vehicle was towed to a private mechanic who advised the contact that the electronic control module had failed. he removed the battery terminal, reset the computer, cleared all codes, replaced the throttle position censor, and cleaned the throttle body. the dealer was notified of the previous failures and did not offer any assistance. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the current mileage was 110,000 and the failure mileage was 70,000. the vin was unavailable. updated 04/25/11 *bf the consumer stated the problem happened for a second time. updated 06/20/11
I have a 2005 ford expedition, eddie bauer. most recently (2 weeks ago), my check electronic throttle light came on, i called my local dealer and planned to take it in the next day. i work close to home and have limited driving distance. on the way home, the throttle went completely out and the vehicle cut off on the side of the road and was unable to be restarted and had to be towed. my local dealer did fix it in a timely manner. however...this is not the first problem. we bought it brand new and within a month the fuel injector went out when i was coming back home from out of town, my drivers side seat adjustment went out twice and had to be replaced. i am short and had to drive with my seat all the way back. 2 cam phasers had to be replaced back in the summer and then most recently this. i have 2 small children and would prefer a dependable vehicle. i filed a formal complaint with ford and heard from them today of which i was told that having 49,000 miles on my vehicle it was not unusual for parts to go bad. i live on a hard surface road and drive to work, normal day to day activities and of course vacation. the only thing they would do was upgrade my warranty to cover the transmission. it already has the extended warranty. i am disappointed they would not stand by their product. i have owned 2 toyoyta's in the past and plan to go back to a toyota and a ford could not be given to me again. *tr
I was traveling at 60 mph and suddenly i heard an alarm and the dash indicated "check electronic throttle control. at that instant the vehicle stalled. i was able to maneuver to the burm. tried to start but would not respond. finally after about two minutes i was able to start the vehicle and return to work. took vehicle to bass ford sherffield village ohio. they are investigating. *tr
I own a 2005 ford expedition (limited) on a number of occasions my vehicles motor has revived up and i had to put my foot on the brake very hard to prevent crashing into vehicles in front of me... it also happened one time when i was going about 50 mph and the car for now apparent reason accelerated to 60 very quickly. i have reported this to the dealer on three separate occasions and they advise that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. Dt*: the contact stated while at a stop light, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle began to accelerate as if cruise control was engaged. the contact tried to depress the brake pedal harder until it goes away. there was no warning signal prior to the incident. the problems persisted intermittently while the vehicle was idling. the vehicle was taken to the service dealer who could not duplicate the problem. the second time, the service dealer adjusted the calibration for a temporary remedy. after a couple of months, the problem persisted and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who installed a flight record box. the contact kept the flight record box for two weeks and returned to the service dealer but the readings could not be determined. the vehicle was taken to the dealer six separate times for the same problem. the manufacturer was notified and did not offered any resolution.
Engine goes to full throttle at start up and while in gear with my foot on the brake at a stop sign. problem has been reported and documented with the dealer service department but has not been corrected. first incident was within the first week after purchase in july 2005. last incident was last week, march 2006. *nm
Engine shuts off while driving. *tr
I was approaching an intersection at craig and i-15. this is known to have a green light, yet the traffic will suddenly stop instead of a steady flow. i was driving my ford expedition that i purchased less than 2 weeks before. suddenly the traffic stopped, i slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me. i noticed that my vehicle did not stop. i ended up hitting the vehicle in front of me. i got cited for going too fast for the condition of the traffic. at that time i did not notice a problem with the pedals, accelerator and brake have a conflict. since the vehicle was new to me, i did not notice the problem until a month later, although i questioned how i could have this collision after slamming on the brakes as i did. after the vehicle got out of the shop, i was driving in a residential area. i applied the brake to slow down and noticed the acceleration increasing. it was then that i realized that i was pressing the accelerator and brake pedal at the same time. i am 6'3" tall with a 11 1/2 in shoe. my foot is larger than the average man, i believe that the pedals are too close together until you are aware of this and make a conscience effort to switch from one pedal to another. *nm
Driving aprox. 45 mph loss control of throttle 2nd. time this has happened. *tr
Dt: the contact states when he pivots the foot to the left to press the brake pedal the foot will also press the gas pedal. he feels the gas and brake pedals are to close together.*ak updated 1/4/2006 - *nm
Vehicle was being driven at about 20 mph when it suddenly accelerated and almost lost of control of the vehicle. plowed into the brakes and pulled vehicle over to set in park and shut down engine. this is the second incident in the last 3 months. this vehicle is very dangerous to occupants of the vehicle and anyone/anything out on the roads. *jb
Brake pedal and gas pedals too close. many times gas pedal has been depressed while trying to only depress the brake pedal.*ak
Vehicle was being driven in a parking lot. we stopped to allow a car to pull out of the parking space. the brake was released to allow the car to slowly roll into the parking space when it suddenly accelerated. my wife plowed into the brakes as the vehicle came close to running over pedestrians walking by. dealer checked and found nothing wrong. this is one of two incidents in a 3 month period. this vehicle is a major catastrophe waiting to happen, please beware of the danger. *jb
(1) vehicle started and shifted into drive (2) immediately after shifting with foot on brake, experienced full engine throttle causing unwanted acceleration forward and almost causing accidents (3) vehicle taken to ford dealership for service and problem reoccured 2 days later
