While at a stop light with foot on brake truck wil accelerate without warning. the vehicle will surge forward. could be very dangerous. taken vehicle in to dealer 5 times but they are unable to duplicate the problem and refuse to fix it. ford engineer was sent to look at the truck and was also unable to duplicate the problem.*ak
While at a stop vehicle surged forward. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. *ak
I own a 2001 ford expedition. in the years since i have had it i have experienced sudden acceleration numerous times. i have been fortunate in that when the sudden accelaration happens i have been at a stand still at a traffic light or heavy traffic and therefor already stepping on the brakes. the engine will rev up all of a sudden, it has caught me off guard a couple of times because it does not happen often but when it does you can of course hear it, feel the vehicle reving up and see the needles on the meters go all the way to the other end. the times that it did catch me off guard the truck jumped forward in the second it took me to apply the brakes. it has not caused any crash or injuries but i watched a report on nbc channel 2 news in houston and felt i should probably report this in case this is happening to more people with this type of vehicle it could be a serious problem.*ak
Several times, usually at stop lights, while idling with foot on the brake, the engine surges up to approx 1000 rpm for approx 3-5 sec. if foot was not on the brake, the truck could have accelerated into the car in front of me, or into the intersection. every time i'm at the ford dealership i have them investigate, but nothing is found on the computer code search, and the symptom is very irregular and rare, so it has not reproduced while at the dealer. i've seen this reported before on mycarstats.com. *nm
My 2001 ford expedition xlt lurches forward when i am stopped in traffic or at a light. i have taken it in to the dealership several times to have the problem fixed. they cannot find a reason why my car does this. the service manager even drove the car around for a few days and could not figure it out. they tried re-setting the computer but that did not work. this is a big problem. it even happened when my mother was getting out of the car.*ak
My suv occasionally accelerates when the rpms are low i.e. when idling at a light or coming to a slow stop. i have not had an accident or injury yet but i have taken it to the dealer a couple of times when it was still under warranty but they said they could find nothing wrong with it. the acceleration is not rocket-like but i can feel a slight jump and when this occurs i am quick to step on the brake. it does not occur on a regular basis.*ak
At any speed, or when coming to a stop, the engine revved and raced intermittently. the throttle had become stuck on many occasions. the consumer's wife was backing out of the driveway and the throttle became stuck. the vehicle went out of control and crossed the street, struck a vehicle, and collided into the side of a house. the manufacturer and dealer were aware of the problem. *ak *sc *jb
I was sitting behind one vehicle stopped at an intersection waiting for the light to change. the engine suddenly revved and lunged forward. despite depressing the brake as hard as i could, i was unable to prevent the car from crashing into the car in front. i believe this surge may have happened previously. approximately 1 1/2 years ago, i was accelerating up a hill when i suddenly felt a surge forward even after i stopped pushing the accelerator. *la
The vehicle suddenly accelerated when the driver applied the brake. the dealer was notified. *nlm
Vehicle surged forward while idling. a recording box was affixed to the vehicle and documentation was available. dealer examined the vehicle ten times, but could not resolve the problem. *ak *la
After traveling approximately 10 miles we parked our 2001 expedition in the car port and went to bed. approximately one hour we woke up with our house on fire at the west end where the car port is located. investigators and fire inspectors determined the fire originated from the expedition but due to the extent of damage could not determine the exact location the fire started other than in the engine compartment. the fire resulted in a total loss of the vehicle, house, belongings, and severe burn to one family members arm and extensive damage to another vehicle parked close by. the ford part number for recently recalled cruise control switches is the same as the one on my expedition and was changed for the 2002 models.*ak
Engine accelerated and vehicle failed to stop when brakes were applied, vehicle continued to creep forward when shifted into neutral, then to park, causing damage to security gate and vehicle. vehicle stopped only when engine was turned off. *jb
New 2001 expedition. started lurching forward in 2002. this happens when i was parking in the garage, the foot is not touching any of the pedals its coasting very very slowly cause your going to put your foot on the break to stop. all of a sudden it lunges forward at the same time radio goes louder and the air conditioner or heater speeds up, its like a power serge. it has taken a while to figure that out, it happens so fast and is not predictable. when it does happen like last week it had been months, i had completely forgot about it. i was in the driveway parking by our chevy truck and almost hit it. one time in the beginning it happened at a stop light i almost hit the car in front of me but i always have a few feet in front of me. however if i was at stop light and a pedestrian was walking across and this happened , i'm sure it would hit them cause they don't always walk between the white lines. in 2002 i did take the truck into ford dealer they ran a test and it didn't acted up on them they said that until it would do it for them they couldn't fix it. so now my son will be driving next year if the problem isn't fixed we will have to get rid of it . it is a nice suv and we wanted to have it for at least 200,000 miles. *nm
When fot released accelerator, accelerator stuck and vehicle continued gaining sped. despite placing transmision in park and engaging parking brake, there was no response. driver tok vehicle off road to avoid collision and was involved in collissions with tres before coming to rest after impact with iron gate.*ak

I own a 2001 ford expedition 5.4l and on at least ten different occasions the vehicle has suddenly accelerated. luckily, every time this has occured the vehicle was at a full stop and my foot was on the brake pedal. the vehicle would surge forward and the tachometer would jump to about 3500 to 4000 rpm. the surge only lasts for a few seconds, but it is enough to lunge the vehicle forward. after the second or third incodent we took it back to the dealership where we bought it (dub miller ford in rosenberg tx.) and they said they could not find anything wrong. i don't know what is wrong with this truck, but i would like to get it fixed before my wife or child are injured, this is my wife's primary vehicle and most of the incidents have happened to her.*ak

The gas pedal on the adjustable pedal system will on occasion wedge under edge of floor mat. floor mats i have are oem parts that came with the vehicle. problem has happened twice in 2 months, once at 75mph, and the other at 5 mph. second incident caused accident. driver side floor mat is secured to floor carpet with "retainer" mechanism (hook) this is a very dangerous design flaw in the adjustable pedal system and must be addressed by ford motor company.*ak
Sudden acceleration while brake pedal was being used. dealer has been unable to duplicate problem, but has installed a flight recorder. please provide further details.*ak
